Effat Ambassadors Program Civic Engagement Symposium
In Fall 2018, the Ambassador Program Senior 2 students participated in the Civic Engagement Symposium with a number of 57 team projects and 290 students in total. These projects expressed the connection between the individual and society through direct engagement with the community in order to implement Effat core values (IQRA); to exert change and to achieve civic responsibility as future leaders.Twelve projects out of the 57 projects were nominated to make presentation before the juries during the event.
Winners 1 See Through Production line proposal for blind people clothingAn initiative for clothing production line for blind people. The team came up with an idea that allows blind people to choose the clothes themselves by printing a kind of readable code on each piece of their clothes.
GROUP PICTURE AMBASSADORS INSTRUCTORS & EFFAT STUDENTS
2 Tanafu’a Teach underprivileged kids how to read and write. The aim of the project is to teach underprivileged and orphaned kids who cannot afford going to school.
3 Dukkan Khayreya Where the students helped in renovating a store Dukkan Khayreya is an initiative by Al-Faisaliah Women Welfare Society, and it aims to help unprivileged families by providing them with consumers. The team developed an application and uploaded all essential information for Dukkan Khayreya.

Arab Excellence Program A number of 18 students from Effat University and King Abdulaziz University have been registered into the Arab Excellence Program. The program is a collaboration between Effat University, Tanweel, and Unilever. The Arab Excellence Program focuses on a deep and practical understanding of excellence through the study of special Arab personalities around the world, and then it analyses the strengths and weaknesses in practical steps and use them to achieve personal identification. Then, students build a detailed personal roadmap for the next 90 days to help them achieve their vision.

Queen Effat Citizenship Award
Every academic year, EFFAT University recognizes an outstanding student of academic and personal merit to hold the Queen EFFAT Citizenship Award (QECA). The QECA winner has several privileges and also acts as the president of Student Shura which is the legislative body of students that works with the Student Council to meet student’s needs. For this Academic year 2018-2019, 93 students were eligible to apply for the award from that we had 20 students apply to be the recipient of the QECA award. The top 3 were (Raghad Aljuhani 3rd place- Shouq Alsaedi 2nd place- and Nuha Alzahrani 1st place)

Student Shura SS organized their annual Tea with Faculty even where students can sit with their faculty members and get to know them better. They also helped in organizing the SG Vs. SS event where students are introduced to Student Government and Student Shura and they get to know the real difference between these two governances.
Student Government The Student Government (SG) is a student organization rub by students, for students, and independent from the main educational institution. The purpose of the SG is to represent students both within the institution and externally. It’s also responsible for providing a variety of services to the students. Every year we have a number of students who apply to be the next SG president, this year we had 3 students apply Dareen AlOtaibi, Sumaiya Yousef, and Wajd AlMehdar. The winner for this year was Wajd AlMehdar

Student Life Highlights Effat Sports Day Challenge
Effat university encourages the community to be more active in the sports filed therefore we held our second annual Effat Sports Challenge “Fight until the end”. This year we had 5 high schools competing in different sports such as: basketball, swimming, and running. In Basketball: AlHamra came in first with 55 points Global came in second with 35 points As for Swimming: Global came in first and third and nobles came in second For Running: Nobles came in first Alhamra came in second Global came in third At the awards ceremony, Ms. Lina Almaeena was the host of the event and our keynote speaker was Maryam Binladen.
Clubs Activities This year the Erth club planned a trip to Almadina. The photography club went on a hiking trip. EBSA helped in organizing the Hankook event where they taught students the essentials about cars. IEOM invited the Down syndrome association to Effat to spread awareness regarding the association as well as having fun activities for the kids.

Career Development Office Fall 2018 Interns During fall 2018, the Internship Unit (CDO) has worked on placing 85 interns from different majors via announcing several available internship opportunities; for example MISK Foundation and Aramco, 13 interns were from the Business College, 16 from the Engineering College, 30 from the Humanities and 26 from the Architecture and Design College. With 92% placed in National companies such as IMC and Ministry of Media, whereas, 8% worked in International companies such as ABB, Saudi Airline, Schlumberger, Unilever and SAMBA.

INTERN INSIGHTS, HEAR IT FROM THE EXPERTS
On Oct 29th, 2018, the CDO organized a talk under the title “Internship between Reality & Expectations.” For this event, the CDO invited a speaker from the industry along with ex-interns from Effat University to share their experience and give an insight and tips for those who are planning to do their internship within the next two semesters. Mr. Ahmed khan-Group Executive Director at Fakeeh-care has more than 17 years of experience in the HR filed.

READY, SET, SOLVE!
On Nov 6th, 2018, Effat students were part of the final Bupa Challenge that took place in the HQ of Bupa Arabia Office in Jeddah. Effat team awarded the 1st runner-up prize .This challenge was a great way to develop the leadership and problem-solving skills for the participated students. The final presentation was attended by Bupa’s leaders and senior staff. Congratulation to our Ambassadors!

According to the latest researches and surveys, 90% of applicants fail to get a job they want due to poorly written resumes.Thus, the CDO shared a timetable of their CV editing service for expected graduates and interns to help enhancing their CV writing skills and to increase their chances in having a better career in the near future.

Partnerships Celebrating Partnership with Baker-Hughes-GE Under The Patronage of HRH Princess Lolowah Al-Faisal – Vic Chair of the Board of Trustees and General Supervisor of Effat University, Effat University held an event in celebration of signing an official Memorandum of Understanding with Baker-Hughes- a GE company. With 13 engineering graduates are currently working with the company in different departments, both parties are hoping for a long-lasting partnership that will result in offering more job opportunities’ and internships for students and graduates in several fields of engineering.
Education for Employment (EFE) The agreement between Effat University and Education for Employment (EFE) held on October 1st 2018 aims to collaborate and provide our graduates with employment opportunities. Education for Employment is a leading nonprofit job placement network for youth; it helps trains youth and links them to jobs across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts Group The agreement between Effat University and Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, held on September 27th 2018, aims to collaborate and provide students and graduates with opportunities to have internships and employment at the hotels corporate offices. Mövenpick is a firm with Swiss roots and a restaurant and hospitality heritage that dates back to the 1940s. It embraces innovation to meet ever-changing guest needs and continue to celebrate their rich culinary legacy, setting trends but never compromising on quality and authenticity. Mövenpick take a sustainable and responsible approach, caring for local communities and protecting the environment in the destinations where they operate.
YLC Academy Agreement On July 2018, Effat University singed a training agreement with YLC Academy to empower and train Effat students and enable them to participate in YLC social entrepreneurship activities. In the agreement, 15 Effat students are to take “YLC Global Leadership Program for University Students” training during Fall 2018.

Enhancement Centers New Online Appointment System for Students’ Convenience The Enhancement Centers provided a new service to all university students, which is an online appointment system. This system allows students to book an appointment with peer-tutors to help them with different courses. It is a convenient service as students are now able to book, change, or cancel their appointment online at their convenience, and without having to visit the enhancement centers in person to book an appointment. Students can easily browse the system and look for tutors in many courses, andthen they can make an individual or group appointment. Peer-Tutors Get together As the academic semester is coming to an end, The Enhancement Centers celebrated one great semester of peer-tutoring. Creating a bond between the tutors and the centers’ team is essential in improving the quality of the service. The Enhancement Centers’ team showed appreciation for the tutors’ efforts by organizing a get-together, where tutors were given the chance to share their feedback and reflect on their performance. Tutors expressed their desire to continue in the peer-tutoring program for next semester as they found it rewarding academically and personally.

After being a tutor for a full year, this experience has helpedme to develop on a personal level since I have had the opportunity to work with a diverse pool of students, coming from different majors and levels of study. Peer-tutoring has helped me to socialize and connect with others, it was also great to see the relief on tutees face after understanding a certain problem they thought had no solution! It was a great journey, and I want to thank the Enhancement Centers for this program.

English Conversation Hour
This semester, the Enhancement Centers introduced a new service which is “English Conversation Hour”. This service includes three weekly hours of English speaking practice with an English tutor. Students get to learn new vocabularies in different topics each week and practice them instantly. This initiative aims to improve the students’ level of confidence and enhance their English speaking and conversation skills.
The Educational Support Program (ESP) The Educational Support Program (ESP) aims to facilitate student successful progress in academic courses and help them develop the academic and personal skills needed for a successful and timely graduation. Moreover, the program gives students variety of services through several workshops throughout the semester in writing consultation, academic coaching, and public speaking. Also, it provides one-on-one academic tutoring sessions in all academic courses to prepare them for quizzes, midterms, and finals.

Health, Welfare and Councelling Watch your Weight Effat Women’s Wellbeing Center participated in the National Campaign to Combat Obesity with Kayl Association by launching many activities and programs including”Watch Your Weight, and “Effat University Fitness Program.” The Center also offered events like “Being Healthy is a Choice” where speakers were invited to talk about healthy choices in life. In addition, a Zumba class was offered at the event and a full body measurement machine was there to be used for all students and employees.
Effat Fitness Program This program encourages students and employees to be physically active with various classes including Zumba, yoga and aqua aerobics.In addition, this program promotes healthy life style.
Counselling Service This fall semester, the Counselling Service launched its Mindful Meditation weekly drop-in sessions to help students buffer the stresses of the semester. Overall, 61 people took part over the course of the semester which were held in the DSA dance room every Monday morning and offered the Effat community 20 minute breathing meditation sessions whereby it allowed them an opportunity to clear their mind and reconnect with their breathe.Mindfulness is the process of non-judgmentally observing your thoughts, emotions and sensations, with an attitude of curiosity and acceptance in order to increase awareness of the present moment. This practice has been scientifically proven to reduce stress and anxiety, increase focus, sharpen memory and improve multi-tasking skills.So next semester, when you’re feeling overwhelmed or stressed, take a break and get a neurological boost with one of our weekly 20-minute.

Alumnae Success Story Maysan Mamoun is one of Effat University’sArchitecture alumnae. She is one of our many successful ambassadors;Maysan continued her higher education and now holds professional master’s degree in Architecture from Carleton University, Ottawa;post-master degree in Urban Design and Housing from McGill University, Montreal; and an executive degree in Leadership and Community Empowerment from Harvard University, Cambridge. Maysan is currently a multidisciplinary architect and the principal of COdesign, as well as a member of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. MAYSAM MAMOUN EFFAT UNIVERSITY GRADUATE
Her multicultural background from the Middle East and North America, specializing in tactical designs, public architecture, and community-based design, inspires her experience. As part of her vision in empowering the community through design, Maysan believes that her experiences in tactical designs, public architecture and community-based design are a great benefit to the community. Maysan was selected as a recipient of “Azrieli Scholars” and “Norbert Schoenauer” and “David Farley Fellowship in Architecture” as she was awarded "Prince Sultan bin Salman for Architectural Heritage" along with many other recognitions. In addition, Maysan is a speaker in many architectural/urban conferences including the World Desig Summit, and Arab Development Initiative.

Alumnae Office Activities EFE Workshop On October 9th, 2018, the Alumnae Relations Office held a workshop in collaboration with Education for Employment (EFE) for our graduates and senior students to help them grow and develop their career path, and to help them prepare for their future journeys. The purpose of the workshop was for graduates and students to be able to have representable CVs, gain knowledge and skills on how to have positive interviews, and how to find the right career path. 25 students/graduates attended this workshop.
Waad Academy: Career in a Cambridge International School On December 3rd, 2018, the Alumnae Relations Office held a workshop in collaboration with Waad Academy for our graduates and senior students to help them understand and have a clearer idea about a career in an international school. As well as Waad Academy presented several job opportunities for our graduates during the workshop. 52 students/graduates attended this workshop.
