They presented and shared their concept of “Generating Electrical Energy From Air Humidity“ and were awarded by H.H. Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Jalawi.
Makkah Programming Days 2022: Known as one of the prestigious awards organized by the Makkah Region. The competition consisted of three main challenges: Smart Cities, Tourism, and Hajj and Umrah. Each team was tasked with developing a robust concept to showcase and illustrate how their solution makes use of AI technology Although it was competitive since all universities from the Makkah region were invited to participate, 3 teams from Effat College of Engineering made it to the final round and each team presented their prototype, supervised by Ph.D. Zain Balfagih.
Awards & Competitions
The Deanship of Graduate Studies and Research conducted SSRF 2022 physically on campus on March 31st. Through the submission of their papers, posters, demonstrations, or showcases from past and current semesters. Students were able to present their outstanding projects and ideas and efforts on this particular platform Each college had a winner from the poster and presentation categories The presentation, session winners from the College of Engineering were Hala Haneya, Hanin Balbaid, and Hafsa Ranjha. From the poster session, Aichetou Sidiya and Jailan Aljizawi received the title of best poster.
Supported by the IET, The Institution of Engineering and Technology, the theme for the year 2022 was to present (Ideas) Related to Robotics Based Solutions/Systems to Battle Against Coronavirus. A total of 10 teams from Saudi Arabia participated with 9 of them being from Effat College of Engineering.
TOKAI Workshop
CS student, Effat toastmasters club leader Ms. Raghad Zarie won second place in the Saudi Arabian Toastmasters Annual Contest
The University of Tokyo, a renowned Japanese university, conducted a virtual workshop for Effat’s CoE students on Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. They showed the students previous projects and new uses of AI and robots. The workshop also introduced students to some Japanese words! It ended with the students presenting an overview of what they learned from the workshop.
HELENE KANSO
Milestones are crossed hand by hand, rather than alone. Almost all new students were welcomed by this familiar face who offered nothing but endless knowledge and patience. However, all good things reach an end. As the fall semester ended, we had to bid farewell to our dear instructor, Dr. Helene Kanso.
It cannot be argued that she was a catalyst in igniting a spark within all her students, making sure they felt confident about themselves and for that, we will remain forever grateful as she helped us find our way within this vast field of intimidation. Though we may be physically apart, she has engraved a piece of herself into all her students. We wish her all the success and health in her new endeavors.
FIDAA ABED
With six years of teaching experience and two years of industrial experience in a project funded by Siemens, Dr. Fidaa joined Effat College of Engineering as a part timer He earned his masters and PhD at Max Planck Institute for Computer Science with great honor in Germany and was advised by Prof. Kurt Mehlhorn and Dr. Chien Chung Huang. Previously, he worked as a coordinator of the ABET committee at the College of Computer Science Engineering at University of Jeddah and won the Best Teacher Award . His research interests include Algorithms Design and Analysis, Discrete Optimization, and Algorithmic Game Theory.

wOMEN IN DATA SCIENCE
Stanford University annually sponsors «Women in Data Science» (WiDS) regional events around the world. The forum aims to inspire and educate data scientists and support women in the field. The WiDS program will feature female speakers on a wide array of topics in data sciences extending from data ethics and privacy to cybersecurity to data visualization and machine learning and more.
Effat University hosted WiDS@Jeddah 2022 on Monday, March 7th. The event theme was “The Data Pandemic” and it considered the abundance of data around us, whether are we making the most out of it, or are we overwhelmed by it, and what are our future expectations Effat University hosted a Metlab@ MathWorks watch party on March 17th in collaboration with Mathworks and WomenToImpact at KAUST.
KEYNOTE SPEAKERS • Reem Baksheet Data Pandemic in the Environmental Sustainability • Dr. Paula Morage Data Science for Decision Making in Public Health • Ms. Afrah Alothman Data in Marine Science • Ms Jane McConnell Data Science in Oil and Gas How to Help , not Hinder ,the Energy Transition
