L&T C0NFERENCE 2023

The Metaverse is the immerging technology that creates the experience of an immersive, three-dimensional environme where users interact with their surroundings and shared space. It’s a convergence of several technologies such as blockchain, augmented reality, virtual reality, 3D reconstruction, and artificial intelligence. The Metaverse market reached $46 billion in 2020, the market size is predicted to reach as much as $800 billion by 2024. Locally, Saudi Arabia plans to spend billions of dollars on blockchain and Metaverse technologies. Saudi Arabia’s new Metaverse will help design a $500bn city in Real Life (IRL) where NEOM will be shaped by a “digital twin” virtual world.

Many believe the Metaverse to be the next critical paradigm for how we utilize digital technology and networks to connect, cooperate, and enjoy virtual experiences. Teaching in a Metaverse platform means textbooks are replaced by integrated video gaming-style challenges that require students to apply learned skills to compete. There is an increasing need for new communication and connections modes, such as virtual 3D and the Internet of Everything (IoE), and remote communication and collaboration.

The 20th International Learning and Technology Conference aims to be a meeting point for specialists to explore recent breakthroughs and discoveries to make the Metaverse experience more immersive. This conference will bring together decision-makers, academics, scientists, practitioners, professionals, and top keynote speakers to stimulate discussion on the latest developments in Metaverse and related technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), Internet of Everything (IoE), Robotics, Blockchain, Cloud Computing, Non-Fungible Token (NFT), etc.

By showcasing key problems, best practices and emerging challenges, the book offers a state-of-art review of opportunities and prospects in the process of delivering smart sustainable healthcare services. Topics discussed include healthcare challenges in the post-COVID-19 era, enabling technologies for digital transformation, value driven approaches to the delivery of patient centric top-quality health services, and analytics and enhanced decision making. In addition, the book updates knowledge on best practices for training towards digital transformation and sustainable health.

This is a valuable resource for healthcare professionals, medical doctors, researchers, graduate students and members of the biomedical field who are interested in learning more about the use of emerging technologies in healthcare.

New theory and application published in Top Wiley journal

The paper highlights the importance of the coefficient of variation in accelerated life testing when using the inverse power law life-stress relationship. The constancy of the coefficient of variation assumption guarantees that the failure mechanism does not change with the stress, allowing various probability distributions to be used. The proposed model successfully predicts the lifetime distribution at use conditions from real accelerated OLEDs lifetime data.

The work is collaborative research between Edinburgh University, where our Alumnae from the ECE department, Sara Helal, is doing her Ph.D. Sara got admission to Ph.D. directly from BS due to her high-impact publications covering the full tuition and living expenses. Edinburgh stands in the top 20 in the world.

Numerical Modeling of Nanoparticle Transport in Porous Media

Numerical Modeling of Nanoparticle Transport in Porous Media: MATLAB/PYTHON Approach focuses on modeling and numerical aspects of nanoparticle transport within single- and two-phase flow in porous media. The book discusses modeling development, dimensional analysis, numerical solutions and convergence analysis. Actual types of porous media have been considered, including heterogeneous, fractured, and anisotropic. Moreover, different interactions with nanoparticles are studied, such as magnetic nanoparticles, ferrofluids and polymers. Finally, several machine learning techniques are implemented to predict nanoparticle transport in porous media. This book provides a complete full reference in mathematical modeling and numerical aspects of nanoparticle transport in porous media.

It is an important reference source for engineers, mathematicians, and materials scientists who are looking to increase their understanding of modeling, simulation, and analysis at the nanoscale.

Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Medical Imaging

Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Medical Imaging provides the description of various biomedical image analysis in disease detection using AI that can be used to incorporate knowledge obtained from different medical imaging devices such as CT, X-ray, PET and ultrasound. The book discusses the use of AI for detection of several cancer types, including brain tumor, breast, pancreatic, rectal, lung colon, and skin. In addition, it explains how AI and deep learning techniques can be used to diagnose Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, COVID-19 and mental conditions. This is a valuable resource for clinicians, researchers and health care professionals who are interested in learning more about AI and its impact in medical/biomedical image analysis.

Smart Cities and Digital Transformation: Empowering Communities, Limitless Innovation, Sustainable Development and the Next Generation

The current healthcare systems globally are reactive and focus on addressing acute and active chronic medical problems, resulting in fragmented and costly care. To solve this challenge, systems leaders need to shift their focus towards people and populations. Health reform aims to transition from volume-based to value-based care, prioritizing screening, prevention, and early detection of chronic diseases. Primary care becomes a central component, and extending health services to remote areas becomes essential. Technological advancements have been integrated into healthcare systems, with COVID-19 accelerating technology adoption, particularly in remote health technologies. Digital transformation has the potential to address key issues and transform healthcare systems when supported by a visionary strategy. However, risks like data privacy and cybersecurity must be addressed for successful digital transformation. Inconsistencies in digital transformation success can be attributed to factors such as resource limitations, competing priorities, resistance to change, and lacking regulatory policies.
