The program of English & Translation aims to provide advanced knowledge and skills in Translation, Literature, Linguistics and related fields. The program aspires to be a center for research and training.
Effat’s ET Program provides you with expertise in the main theories, concepts and tools of translation and interpreting studies, linguistics and literature. based on your concentration, you’ll be given the skills needed to critically evaluate texts, communicate effectively in English and Arabic, and demonstrate cultural awareness and recognize speech sounds in a variety of languages.
The program of English & Translation graduates specialists in intercultural and inter-lingual communication who will excel in creative and critical thinking, cross-cultural competencies, research and civic responsibility.
You’ll learn how to excel in creative and critical thinking, global communication, personal integrity, and civic responsibility, all within a program that prioritizes innovation for the benefit of higher education and community, both in the Kingdom and beyond.
You’ll have the opportunity to focus on one of three concentrations:
• Translation
• Linguistics
• Literature
The overall program objectives are:
• To provide you with the necessary knowledge for a career or a research program in the fields of translation, linguistics and literature.
• To train you in the skills and techniques most needed in the job market.
• To train you in the use of relevant technology in your field of study.
• To provide you with the necessary theoretical tools to identify, analyze and solve challenges encountered in your field.
• To develop your abilities to conduct research and studies in the field.
We welcome students from a diverse range of backgrounds.Typically, though, we will look for the following requirements:
• Science section – 80%
• Art section – 80%
• 65%
• LNGT 162 or equivalent
• IELTS 5.5 or equivalent
• Part 1-2
• Cut-score – 512, 612
• Interview
• 3 recommendation letters
• Personal statement
The following are just some of the roles and opportunities our ET graduates can look forward to:
• School teaching
• Professional translation and interpretation
• Employment in journalism, editing, copywriting, public relations, and advertising industries
• Positions in business, government, software development, market data analysis, administration, sales, and marketing
• Other professions that require high levels of English language skills, research skills, and critical and analytical abilities.
