in questo numero, il primo dell’anno in cui si celebra il 60° anniversario di Sina Hotels, ho voluto condividere con voi le pietre miliari della nostra storia. Era il 1958 quando mio padre, il Conte Ernesto Bocca, acquistava un antico palazzo a Firenze decidendo di trasformarlo in un lussuoso albergo a cinque stelle, il Sina Villa Medici che inaugurerà due anni dopo. Negli anni, con la sua stessa passione per l’arte dell’ospitalità “Made in Italy”, io e mia sorella Matilde abbiamo fatto crescere il Gruppo che oggi conta 12 strutture di accoglienza luxury in Italia e, recentemente, anche all’estero. I nostri alberghi esprimono al meglio la vocazione di famiglia per l’hôtellerie di alta gamma che negli ultimi anni sta vivendo momenti di grande trasformazione grazie alle moderne tecnologie e al crescente apprezzamento degli ospiti per soluzioni sempre più sofisticate legate al benessere ed alla ristorazione di altissimo livello. It was in 1958 when my father, Count Ernesto Bocca, bought an ancient palace in Florence and decided to transform it into a luxury 5-star hotel - the Sina Villa Medici - which opened its doors two years later. Down the years, with his same passion for the art of hospitality, my sister Matilde and I have nurtured the Group which today has 12 hotels in Italy and, recently, abroad too. Our hotels express the vocation of our family for the luxury hotel industry which, in recent years, has undergone many changes thanks to hi-tech and to the growing appreciation of our guests for sophisticated wellness and fine dining facilities. In 2002 Matilde and Bernabò Bocca made their father’s dream come true when they opened a boutique hotel in Venice, the Palazzo Sant’Angelo on the Grand Canal. Followed by a return to Milan where they transformed a palace with an Art deco façade in the heart of the city into the Hotel The Gray. With its views of the famous Vittorio Emanuele Gallery the hotel quickly became a popular haunt with the city’s fashionistas and the movie and theatre crowd. In 2004, feeling nostalgic for their origins, Bernabò and Matilde turned Villa Matilde, the 18th century Bocca family home in Romano Canavese (in the Piedmont countryside), into a charming relais. After a full restoration while respecting the

There are many exceptional exhibitions worth seeing, starting with the Palazzo Reale and the many striking masterworks, from the Philadelphia Museum of Art, by the artist Lu Bolin who has turned camouflage into his own highly distinctive art form. Another must-see are the works of Hiroshige that depict a world in close contact with nature. Turner was the last of the Romantics and laid the foundations for the birth of Impressionism, while the landscapes of Pasini bring us into a world of faraway places and the stories of the Thousand and One Nights. Then there is the elegance of Rodin one of the greatest sculptors of all time. Also well worth seeing are the mysteries of pre-Colombian art by Ligabue whose 19th and 20th-century works are on exhibition in Palazzo Martinengo in Brescia, while the works of Dürer, considered the greatest German Renaissance painter, are in the Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria to mark his centenary. Not to be missed: Michelangelo as seen by the film director Michelangelo Antonioni in Milan, Scapigliatura’s gracious 20th-century landscapes in the Museo del Paesaggio in Verbania and the oneiric exhibition of Mexican archaeology “The dream of the ancestors” as interpreted by Frida Kahlo on view in the Mudec in Milan.
