The Carbon Footprint Calculator for Fertilizing Products

What is the Carbon Footprint Calculator? The Carbon Footprint Calculator for fertilizer products allows users to estimate the carbon footprint related their fertilizer production. The Calculator is open to everyone. Users are welcome to register via the registration form found on the login page. The online Carbon Footprint Calculator (http://app.calcfert.com) is a standalone module used to calculate the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated during the production of fertilizers. By selecting basic assumptions and filling in own values related to raw materials, transportation, energy, plant specifications and product specific data, the user calculates the total carbon footprint, expressed as ‘ton CO2-equivalents / ton product’. This estimate includes both direct and indirect emissions from energy supply.

As an important feature, the online calculator also allows you to compare your results against regional references, i.e. Europe, Russia, China, North America, Latin America, Oceania, Asia, Middle East and Africa for some of the key products such as Urea, AN, UAN, and CAN, but also for MAP, DAP, TSP, and SSP. To assure the quality of the tool, the calculator has been verified and validated by an independent third party DNV GL.

The results of this calculator can be used as inputs for the calculation of the footprinty of food production, via Cool Farm Tool (www.coolfarmtool.org).

Certification Scheme As only accurate input data will provide reliable results, Fertilizers Europe has developed a Certification Scheme with Carbon Trust Advisory Limited. To ensure that the calculator is correctly used, input data are accurately introduced. Only certified footprints can be publically used and communicated for legal reporting, sustainability and corporate social responsibility reports, and/or for food chain reporting or communication purposes. Additionally, the certified footprints could serve as input for food production carbon footprint calculators such as the Cool Farm Tool.
