BARRIO THREADS
The historic Barrios of Tucson are rich with culture and diversity. It is characterized with influences stemming from Hispanic culture which is very evident with the adobe and sonoran style homes. The Barrio tailor shop proposal is set to adhere to the distinct style of the neighborhood with a modern twist. This project intends to create and maintain social integration in the Barrios by serving as a hub that conveys the rich historical, cultural, and traditional context that would become a catalyst for development. It celebrates the craft of tailoring by honoring clothing as well as the craftsmanship that goes into the process.

The existing framework of the site consists of
ture opened up to the interior space of the building. The Barrio Thread shop extends to the exterior courtyard into the the interior space even further by extending the showroom to the exterior space with the incorporation of a Trellis located in the courtyard allowing people to see into the interior workspace whilst utilizing the exterior. The Barrio Tailor shop is intended to be open to the community in order to convey the essence of tailoring, hence why there are no walls separating the showroom from the tailor’s workroom. It is essential that the tailor’s workroom should be respected as it is the space in which the tailors creations come to life.

TIMBER IN THE CITY
TIMBER IN THE CITY
Set in a prime location, the project maximizes the ur-
ban framework of the site with the integration of new forms of dwelling, leisure, learning, and social consciousness. With strong relation to the street and waterfront, this project provides various means of retail, parking, walkability, education, and outdoor recreation with the incorporation of a roof garden.

Located on an unoccupied waterfront in Queens, New York. This project re-evaluates social interactions and re-imagines the creation of neighborhood and community integration in a mixed-use, high-rise complex.

COMMUNITY The main premise of this project is to expand the opportunities of social interaction. The building is designed with a series of varying stacked CLT balcony types, providing residents with the opportunity to socialize and create connections which will lead to a stronger sense of community. The architecture encourages the opportunity for life to truly exist between walls and buildings.

SPECULATION
SPECULATION
Inspired by the works of Sol LeWitt’s wall drawings.
The premise of the exercise was to create two dimensional drawings by folding and manipulation of LeWitt’s art in order to dissect and reveal five definite layers to create spatial perception in the form of a pavilion. The triple layered facade system stemmed from a series of “speculation layers” and case studies. The envelope iteration is a merge of research and previous design strategies to create new possibilities and a position for a facade proposal.

DOWN SOUTH
DOWN SOUTH
Jackson Street Garage and Phoenix Union Station is
a very dynamic site. It consists of a garage, bridge and under-utilized railway tracks which creates a wicked problem known as “border vacuum”. The term “border vacuum” is used to describe factors that inhibit people from occupying a space, thus creating a barrier that divides neighborhoods in a city.
28
The site consists of three major border vacuums; the bridge, the parking structure and the rail tracks. The design approach to this site is to reconcile the effects of the border vacuums on the site in order to bring people into a once alienated place. The proposed plan is to incorporate a triple layered facade system, utilizing varying opacities of fritted glass and iridescent aluminum that refracts sunlight, offering an array of distinct colors that draws people in.
