HANDBALL 3º ESO BIL. Handball is a very young team sport in which two teams of seven players, try to score into the goal of the opposing team. We can find a similar game in medieval ages. At the beginning handball was played with eleven players on each team. The pitch was bigger but after the First World War, they started to play on a smaller court, 40x20 as it is today. The first international game was played in the German Olympics 1936, but women´s handball was not added until 1976. Nowadays is very popular and Spain is one of the leading teams in teh world. In 2005 Spain became world Champion in Tunisia and the Handball spanish league is one of the most powerful leagues in the world. BASICS PRINCIPLES - Two teams compete to score in the opposing team. The players can score from anywhere outside the goalkeepers area (6 mts). - A handball match last two thirty minutes halves with a 10 minute interval half time. - The team has 12 players; six fielders and one goalkeeper. Players specific position: - Goalkeeper - Wings -backcourt players - Pivot Centre
Basic Rules - We can use the body contact to defend against an offensive player. - We can bounce, pass and shoot the ball. - We can make three steps without bounce the ball. Doing more steps without bouncing the ball is a technical sanction “Travelling”. - We can hold the ball only for 3” without pass, bounce or shoot. - Goalkeeper is allowed to use every part of the boby to stop the ball. - We can not grab, push or hit the opponent. - We can not touch the ball with our feet. - We can not bounce, stop and then bounce again: Double dribble. - We can not stand inside the goalkeepers area (6 mts). - Every fault is punished with “Free throw” ; except when an attacker is clearly shooting to goal on the 6 mts line that is considered penalty.( 7mts) Court The hand ball court has 40 mts long by 20 mts wide as you can see on this picture. Handball skills The main handball skills are: Pass, bounce, shot, dribling, body contact (shoot or pass obstruction), feint and interceptions. Pass: Over arm pass, under arm pass, jump pass, pass with bounce (are the main form of passes). Bounce:Low bounce or defensive bounce, high bounce or fast bounce. Dribling: Body contact: To intercept shooting or passing using the body. Shot:Jump shot, overhead shot, underarm shot, penalty shot.... Feint: Move by the attacking player with the objective of losing his/her marker
