Nicky is an imaginative photographer since she captures the summer swimmers and bathers in the greek islands, but also in the USA where she now lives, in a humorous way and a cinematic viewpoint. Nicky is from Greece and recently moved out to Miami, Florida where she is involved in her own photography projects. Lately she's more invested in photography and her work has been published in Burn Magazine.
How did you get started in photography? I started as a teenager, when my father gave me an old '50s camera as a gift with which I got really excited and began playing. It was a brand new game to me which led me to discover people's characters.
What does photography mean to you? To me, photography is a way of life, of expression. It helps me focus and watch the world with new eyes. It is another dimension! A dimension where I can turn "invisible" and hunt the moment, the critical moment of simple daily life.
Watching your photos I thought "look how interesting the subject matter of 'bathers' can be as a theme". Have you been influenced by photographers like Martin Parr? I keep tabs on the works of many photographers and I take knowledge from all of them, learning new things that I incorporate into my style. The reason I choose the beaches as a theme is mainly because people feel freer and express themselves easier there. This comfort I feel allows me to permeate these small moments without disturbance or interference.
