SAPI Bouldering Overnight Oct. 3-4 | Meet at Postl Point at 6 a.m. Join Outdoor Recreation for an overnight trip to Horse Pens 40, a historic outdoor nature park offering bouldering, hiking, camping, picnicking, exploring and much more. While there, test your bouldering skills on some of the most popular rocks in the south. Participants will be provided the proper footwear, all safety equipment, a knowledgeable guide and all the necessary camping gear for an overnight stay. Cost is $50 per person and includes transportation. Participants are encouraged to bring water, rain gear, a change of clothes, necessary toiletries, warm clothing, snacks and anything personally needed for a 5-hour road trip. Meet at the Postl Point Outdoor Rec Center for a 6 a.m. departure to Steel, AL. Pre-registration is required, so call (850) 882-5058 to register today!

2020 Eglin Golf Course Championship Oct. 10-11 | Register by 12 p.m. Oct. 8 Golfers in the Eglin community are invited to participate in the 2020 Eglin Golf Course Championship! The first round on the Falcon Course will begin Oct. 10 with a 9 a.m. shotgun start, and the second round on the Eagle Course will begin Oct. 11 with tee times starting at 9 a.m. Entry Fees are $55 Gold AGF Players, $75 Silver AGF Players, and $95 Non-AGF Players. Cost includes cart fees, green fees, range balls prior to competition rounds, the prize fund and lunch after the first round. UPCOMING EVENTS Full-Moon Kayak Oct. 2 | 7 p.m. Come paddle with Eglin Outdoor Recreation out from Postl Point to see the full moon rise over the bay. This two-hour guided excursion will take participants on a kayaking trip to a small secluded beach for an amazing view of the night sky, a small fire with s'mores, and a moonlit paddle back to Postl Point. Participation is open to all base personnel and registered guests, ages 16 and older, who have some prior kayaking experience. Cost is $20 per person and includes all necessary equipment and ingredients for s'mores. Single and double kayaks are available. Participants are encouraged to bring bottled water and a flashlight, and to wear non-cotton clothing. Date may be adjusted in the case of inclement weather conditions. Virtual Book Club Oct. 5 | 4:30 - 5:15 p.m.

Join the Eglin Library for a Virtual Book Club, connecting with fellow readers via Zoom. This month’s book is “Stamped from the Beginning” by Ibram X Kendi. 2020 Doubles Disc Golf Tournament Oct. 10 | Check-in at 7:30 a.m. All ages and skill levels are invited to compete in Eglin Outdoor Recreation's Doubles Disc Golf Tournament, taking place on the disc golf course at Postl Point on Saturday, Oct. 10. The six available divisions include Recreation, Advanced, Intermediate, Novice, Women, and Junior (14 and under). Two rounds will be played with a break for lunch in between. Registration is $30 per person and includes a Player Pack containing a tournament-stamped disc, t-shirt and towel. To guarantee shirt size, register with Outdoor Rec before Thursday, Oct. 1. FREE lunch and beverages will be provided by Outdoor Rec. Players must provide their own discs. Check-in on Saturday begins at 7:30 a.m. Participants are encouraged to bring bottled water and insect repellent, wear good athletic shoes and prepare to play their best game! Private Pilot Ground School Six-Week Course Begins Oct. 13 Tuesdays & Thursdays | 4:30 - 5:15 p.m. Calling all aspiring pilots! The Eglin Aero Club is excited to present the Private Pilot Ground School, the in-person class that prepares students to take to the skies. This course enrolls you in the club’s Part 141 Private Pilot Course and prepares you for the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Test. The course is approximately 35 hours of classroom instruction that starts Oct. 13 and meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for six weeks. The classes will be held at the Family Child Care building, Bldg. 2579, for eight students and will observe social distancing guidelines: desks will be six feet apart, and masks will be required at all times.
