The raw wool used in egos shoes derives from New Zealand sheep. The raw wool is dyed with eco-friendly dyes. The wool is then carded, and the actual work of making the shoe can begin. The carded wool is shaped and soapy water is massaged into it, causing the small fibres in the wool to link together. The wet shoes are then dried in the sun, after which the suede sole is sewn on.

Die Rohwolle für egos Schuhe stammt von neuseeländischen Schafen. Die Rohwolle wird mit umweltfreundlichen Farben gefärbt und anschließend kardiert.

Danach kann die eigentliche Formgebung des Schuhs beginnen. Nachdem die kardierte Wolle geformt wurde, wird Seifenwasser in die Wolle einmassiert, so dass die kleinen Wollfasern sich miteinander verfilzen. Der nasse Schuh wird anschließend in der Sonne getrocknet.

Zum Schluss wird die Sohle aus Wildleder angenäht.

Sheep’s wool is the perfect material for making slippers. Wool is a natural product with great insulating properties. It allows the feet to breathe, and the shoes never feel too hot or too cold.

Wool can absorb up to 30% moisture without feeling wet, and without losing its insulating property.

Moreover, natural wool contains lanolin, which makes the wool resistant to dirt, moisture and grime, and also reduces odours. When you start to use your egos shoes, they take on the form of your individual foot.

The wool comes from New Zealand.

shoes are manufactured by the Danish company Én Gry & Sif, which has worked with the production of felt products in Nepal since 2000. The company has therefore acquired a large amount of knowhow and experience in the business, from which the egos shoes benefit greatly.

Over the years, the company has provided financial support for such projects as an orphanage in Nepal, as well as for production workers and their families. Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world, and egos is proud to be able to create jobs there which help the country to take small steps in the right direction.

Right from the start it was important that all the work should be carried out under fair and orderly conditions, and that the workers should be paid a decent wage for their work. It was therefore a source of great pride to the company when it was certified in 2009 by the World Fair Trade Organization.

Das Unternehmen verfügt daher über viel Know-how und Erfahrung auf diesem Gebiet, von dem egos Schuhe profitieren.

Von Anfang an war es dem Unternehmen wichtig, dass die Produktion unter fairen und geordneten Bedingungen stattfindet und die Arbeiter einen anständigen Lohn für ihre Arbeit erhalten. Daher war die Freude groß, als das Unternehmen 2009 von der World Fair Trade Organization zertifiziert wurde.

Im Laufe der Jahre hat das Unternehmen außerdem die Produktionsmitarbeiter und ihre Familien sowie Projekte wie Kinderheime in Nepal finanziell unterstützt. Nepal ist eines der ärmsten Länder der Welt. egos ist daher stolz darauf, Arbeitsplätze zu schaffen, die dem Land helfen, in kleinen Schritten in die richtige Richtung zu gehen.
