A Great Summer Vacation If you are looking for a great place to spend your summer vacation Florida may be the perfect place. Known as the “Sunshine State” because of its balmy, sunny weather, Florida has more theme parks, entertainment centers and sport activities than any other part in the country. Its fantasy theme parks and attractions, exciting nightlife and leisurely days on the best beaches in

the world make it an ideal place for vacations. Thousands of beautiful lakes and magnificent rivers and its 1,350 miles of coastline make it ideal for boating, sailing, fishing, diving, snorkeling and swimming. For a sportsperson, Florida is a vacation paradise. Its warm summers and mild winters make it possible to enjoy boating, camping, golfing, and water sports.

Florida is great for camping. Outdoor enthusiasts can choose a variety of setting, from beachfront campground, to RV parks, to primitive camping. The mild climate allows year round camping and outdoor activities. The beaches are some of the finest in the world and are rated among the best for beauty, facilities

It is ideal for power-boating, sailing, kayaking, water skiing, wake boarding, wind surfing and canoeing. Like fishing? You will find bass fishing, inshore saltwater and flats fishing and offshore saltwater fishing if you want to catch the “big ones. Florida is the “golf capital of the world”. The year round sun attracts

hundreds of thousands of golfers each year. No matter what your golfing ability or budget, courses are accessible to suit all needs. To avoid large crowds and packed attraction, as well as expensive lodging, make plans to visit Florida during the off season which is during the months of May through October. This is also a popular time for families with school-age children. Traveling during the “off seasons” can be rewarding.

Ohio's Amish Country ~ Get Back to a Simpler Way of Life Ohio was originally home to several tribes of Native American Indians including Mingo, Delaware, Wyandot, Ottawa, Shawnee, and Miami. Many settlers from the east began immigrating to Ohio, particularly in the Western Reserve after the War of 1812. Pennsylvanians dominated the population growth, among them several religious communities including Mennonites, Amish, Dunkards (German Baptist Brethren) and Moravians. They were joined by other members of their faith directly from Germany and Switzerland as well, giving a unique flavor to Wayne and surrounding counties. Today this region is home to the largest community of Amish.

Because of their profound religious beliefs, they have elected to live as close to their founding principles as possible, forgoing many aspects of technology and modern conveniences common to the modern world. Their self reliance and work values are visible in their community barn raisings, threshing rings, quilting groups and more. Amish farms, one-room school houses and their distinct black horse-drawn buggies are familiar sights around Wayne County. A favorite destination of visitors and residents alike is one of the many Amish-style restaurants that feature authentic cooked meals, including noodles, apple fritters, and deep dish fruit pies. Visitors also enjoy the

quality, hand-crafted products the Amish are known for. Fine wood furniture, hand-stitched quilts, and carvings are just a few of the items visitors often take home from their visit to Amish country. The Amish people do not wish to be photographed due to their religious beliefs and will not pose for pictures. However, they are friendly people willing and often eager to speak about their unique lifestyles. Visitors who allow themselves to enter into the atmosphere of the Amish community will gain a new perspective on modern life and a respect for their desires to maintain a simple way of life. This article courtesy of the Wayne County Convention & Visitors Bureau

Visit Amish Country for Family Fun and Adventure The Amish lifestyle carries intrigue for many, but its core is all about a straight-forward, honest way of life that puts family and faith first. It leaves an impression on visitors in ways that are unlike most other destinations.

Amish Country in Holmes County, Ohio, is built for family fun, whether you make it a day-trip adventure or a long-weekend reunion. Plenty of unique experiences, from feeding a giraffe to buggy rides to making an Amish friend, create visits that young

ones—from toddlers to teenagers—will remember for years. Amish Country Ohio has something for all tastes. Call 877-643-7874 for free, customized information packets for couples, families and groups. Or learn more online at www.visitamishcountry.com. ¤

West Virginia: The New River-Greenbrier Valley’s Enchanting Scenery and the Historic Hatfield-McCoy Mountains The Mountain state is an amazing destination for travelers of all types. You can spend a lifetime and still not see it all. West Virginia is full of gorgeous and green natural landscapes and infamous historic sites. Though the entire state is a spectacular destination, Central West Virginia attractions keep people coming year after year. U.S. Route 119 cuts through the heart of some of the prettiest countryside in the nation. Along that route, you’ll run into the incredible Hatfield McCoy Mountains. These

notorious mountains are named for the two families that had a bloody feud in the 1800s. The Hatfield-McCoy feud has entered the folklore lexicon and is synonymous with the perils of family honor and revenge. What was the fight over? You can find out during your Hatfield McCoy Mountains travel! The town of Matewan was purposefully located halfway between the homes of Devil Anse Hatfield and Randle McCoy. This historic town was the site of the Matewan Massacre, which led to the largest battle in America since the Civil War. The Hatfield McCoy

Mountains are full of history and are superb Central West Virginia attractions. The mountains also weathered the Civil and Coal Mine Wars. In Madison, the Coal and Heritage museum is the place to witness that intriguing piece of our nation’s history. This museum is dedicated to preserving the heritage of the coalfields and contains a simulated coalmine. Well before the Civil War, this area was home to the great Cayuga tribe. Bearing the name of one of the Native American tribe’s leaders is Chief Logan State Park. This 4,000-acre park is has all kinds of great activities.

You can go swimming, fishing, hiking, and even camping on the premises. The park is one of the busiest Central West Virginia attractions. The verdant New River/Greenbrier Valley has been a local treasure for centuries. The rivers are frequently used for whitewater rafting and canoeing. Anglers always find them full of fish, too. Rock climbers frequently can be spotted on the gorge walls. Stop by the New River Gorge Bridge to see a modern marvel of engineering. The bridge is on route 19 and was the longest steel-span bridge in the western hemisphere for

many years. While you’re there, check out New River Gorge National River Park, which surrounds the bridge area. The area is known for its geologic features and is among the most popular Central West Virginia attractions. Plan a Central West Virginia vacation soon, but don’t forget to make it a long one. There is too many things to do in the area. To make sure to have the most memorable trip possible, use GuestQuest to help you plan.

Located in the southern part of West Virginia, history buffs will enjoy Princeton’s War Museum, as well as

the quaint brick street in Bramwell lined with Victorian homes. In June and December, the mansions are open for public tours. For outdoors lovers, the area boasts three state parks, along with additional hiking trails in city and county parks. Motorists can view the area from the popular East River

Mountain Overlook, which offers breathtaking views of Mercer County. And don’t forget about ATVs, fishing and biking. Each community – Athens, Bluefield, Bramwell and Princeton are filled with history, art, fairs, festivals, tours and adventure - all waiting to be discovered. ¤

Here you’ll experience all the best amenities of a laid-back coastal destination, but in a setting that’s more about calming escapes than modern tourism. The charming towns that make up this enchanting area are all places where relaxation comes naturally. To vacation here is to unwind in coastal towns reminiscent of a quieter time in America’s history. Centuries-old waterfront cottages, miles of soft sand, stunning sunsets, rippling creeks and comfy rope hammocks are all a part of the area’s
