The “High Rocks” at Ralph Stover State Park are best known for spectacular views and geological features, and are used extensively by rock climbers. The 200-foot sheer rock face of this cliff offers a unique challenge to the experienced climber. A scenic hiking trail, whitewater boating, and two rock climbing and rappelling areas can be found at McConnell’s Mill State Park. Visitors
can also tour the restored rolling gristmill and covered bridge within the park. Pennsylvania is home to over 120 public biking trails and over 800 miles of Rails-to-Trails property. Enhancing Visitors’ Experiences ~ A Trail for All People The friends of Mounds State Park, a volunteer group whose mission it seems is to enhance the experience of all the park’s visitors, is very intentional to being true to that cause. Due to their considerable efforts, now persons of all physical abilities can experience taking a trail to visit Mounds State Park’s centerpiece attraction, the Great Mound. The Great Mound, built by the Adena-Hopewell people around 160 BC, the most massive of ten earthworks within the state park, is thought to be a gathering place for religious ceremonies and from where astronomical alignments could be viewed. The mound is now accessible to all as a trail has been constructed of blacktop and features a boardwalk ramp and observation area that has
