ASA (Artists of Social Action) issued “a call to art” of any scale or medium, which challenges the social activism model and sparks intellectual conversation about a specific topic. The topics chosen for 2013 are: Pollution Bullying Health Care Reform Students and professionals, individuals and groups alike were welcome to submit work. Outstanding art and design that embodies effective communication and creativity was chosen by a panel of judges and will now be showcased in the annual ASA exhibit – the opening of which launches a weekend-long conversation on the role of in social action. Now go out and get inspired!

In response to UNICEF’s call to address global health problems, Powell has designed the Information Blanket, a blanket for babies that would educate Ugandan mothers about infant care in an area where information regarding health care is scarce. The blanket addresses basics for infant care such as breastfeeding 8-12 times a day, vaccination deadlines, a growth chart, and warning signs that a mother should pay attention to.
Immunization Reminder Bracelet 4:45-5:30
Alma Sana’s goal is increase rates of full and timely immunization through mothers’ use of a simple reminder bracelet, to be worn by her child from birth to age four. More children will live to age five, the Peruvian Ministry of Health (MOH) will cut the total costs of immunization, and nurses will see more patients.

GLSEN partnered with Savage Design to create two brochures (one targeted to students, the other to educators) with threefold objectives: to educate students on the devastating long-term effects of bullying; to help allies of LGBT youth understand the importance of their role in school in eradicating a bullying culture, and to introduce educators to additional tools and resources to develop LGBT-related education initiatives.

Youth in Focus works students ages 13-19 who face a variety of challenges in their lives on a daily basis, and who struggle with a combination of race, poverty or homophobia. Through photography their students find their voice, identity, creativity, and gain new confidence in their worth and abilities.
