قررت شركة مصر للطٌران القابضة إلغاء العمل بنظام التوقٌع بالنسبة للعاملٌن بها والتعوٌض عنها بتوقٌع ورقى وذالك فى إطار اإلجراءات االحترازٌة التى اتخذتها وزارة الطٌران المدنى وشركاتها التابعة من أجل الحد من انتشار فٌروس كورونا . جدٌر بالذكر أن عدد العاملٌن بشركة مصر للطٌران وشركاتها التابعة ٌبلغ حوالى 30 ألف موظف. وكان الدكتور عصام المغازى رئٌس جمعٌة مكافحة التدخٌن وأمراض الصدر وكٌل وزارة الصحة سابقا لـ"الٌوم السابع أن جهاز البصمة فى المإسسات وأوراق البنكنوت الملوثة بـ"فٌروس كرونا" تنقل العدوى ،وقال المغازى :فٌروس كورونا ٌعٌش على األسطح ومنها أوراق البنكنوت والعمالت المعدنٌة وأجهزة البصمة لمدة 10ساعات وبالتالى فإن استعمالها بعد أشخاص مصابٌن ٌنقل العدوى. االدارة العامة للعالقات العامة والمراسم قطاع االمانة العامة بالشركة القابضة لمصر للطٌران

وقال الدكتور عصام المغازى رئٌس جمعٌة مكافحة التدخٌن وأمراض الصدر وكٌل وزارة الصحة سابقا أن فٌروس كورونا تحور 3مرات األولى عام 2003وعرف باسم السارس والثانٌة فى 2013وعرف باسم متالزمة الشرق األوسط التنفسٌة وفى أواخر 2019حٌث عرف بفٌروس كرونا المستجد. وأضاف الدكتور عصام المعازى أن النصٌحة الذهبٌة فى الوقاٌة من الكورونا تتمثل فى تنظٌف الٌد وغسلها جٌدا بالماء والصابون بشكل مستدام مع تقلٌل المصافحة والعناق مع بعضنا البعض وتابع" :هناك إجراءات البد من العمل بها وهى تتضمن طهى الطعام جٌدا والعطس والكح فى مندٌل والتخلص منه بشكل ٌكافح العدوى".

1 «مصر للطٌران» تفقد أكثر من 200رحلة أسبوعٌة بسبب كورونا صفٌة منٌر:
فقدت شركة مصر للطٌران أكثر من 200رحلة أسبوعٌا مع إعالن عدد من الدول توقف الرحالت إلى مصر ،بسبب فٌروس كورونا. وكانت الشركة الوطنٌة تسٌر 180رحلة من جمٌع مطاراتها إلى المملكة العربٌة السعودٌة أسبوعٌا ،توقفت مع إعالن المملكة االقتصار على رحلة أسبوعٌا من كل المطارات المصرٌة، بٌنما كانت تسٌر 21رحلة أسبوعٌا إلى الكوٌت ،بواقع 3رحالت ٌومٌا ،لكن توقفت بسبب إعالن الكوٌت أٌضا وقف الرحالت من وإلى مصر بسبب إجراءاتها لمواجهة فٌروس كورونا. وفقدت الشركة أٌضا 7رحالت أسبوعٌا ،كانت تسٌرها إلى دولة عمان ،تم تعلٌقها بعد قرار األخٌرة وقف الرحالت من وإلى مصر. وقررت المملكة ،مساء األحد الماضً ،تعلٌق سفر المواطنٌن والمقٌمٌن إلى مصر و 8دول أخرى ،وكذلك دخول القادمٌن من تلك الدول ،أو دخول من كان موجودا بها خالل الـٌ 14وما السابقة لقدومه ،لكنها أعلنت مساء أمس األول االثنٌن عن استئناف رحالت شركات الطٌران بٌن المملكة ومصر ٌومً الثالثاء واألربعاء وفق الجداول المعتادة. االدارة العامة للعالقات العامة والمراسم قطاع االمانة العامة بالشركة القابضة لمصر للطٌران
2 وذكرت السفارة السعودٌة فً القاهرة ،أن القرار ٌقتصر على الطٌران المباشر بٌن البلدٌن. كما أعلنت الهٌئة العامة العمانٌة للطٌران المدنً ،أنها ستعلق الرحالت الجوٌة غٌر المنتظمة من وإلى مصر اعتبارا من أمس األحد ولمدة شهر. فً سٌاق متصل ،سٌتم تعلٌق رحالت مصر للطٌران إلى اٌطالٌا ،مع إعالن األخٌرة فرض قٌود ،مشددة على حركة السفر والتنقل فً عموم أنحاء البالد ،حٌث كانت الشركة الوطنٌة تسٌر رحلتٌن إلى روما ،ورحلتٌن إلى مٌالنو أسبوعٌا. وفقدت مصر للطٌران منذ بدء أزمة تفشً فٌروس كورونا كل رحالتها إلى الصٌن موطن المرض ،حٌث كانت تسٌر 15رحلة أسبوعٌا إلى 3مدن هً بكٌن، وجوانزوا ،وهانزوا. وعلمت «الشروق» أن مصر للطٌران تقوم اآلن بعمل دراسات لتسٌٌر الطائرات التً توقفت ،إلى نقاط ٌوجد علٌها طلب كبٌر. وقالت مصادر بالشركة ،إن مصر للطٌران تدرس عمل ما ٌسمى "مناورة بالطرازات" ،بحٌث تشغل الطائرات التً توقفت إلى وجهات علٌها طلب إما بزٌادة سعة الطائرة ،أو زٌادة عدد الرحالت. وحسب المصادر -التً فضلت عدم نشر اسمها -فإن هناك رحالت تؤثرت بشكل غٌر مباشر ،بتوقف الرحالت من الصٌن والكوٌت على سبٌل المثال ،حٌث كان بعض الركاب من هذه الرحالت ٌسافرون من مطار القاهرة إلى وجهات أخرى فً إفرٌقٌا تطٌر إلٌها مصر للطٌران. االدارة العامة للعالقات العامة والمراسم قطاع االمانة العامة بالشركة القابضة لمصر للطٌران

قالت وزارة الطٌران فى بٌان لها مساء الٌوم الثالثاء ،إن نائبا وزٌرى الطٌران والسٌاحة قد قاما بجولة تفقدٌة لمطار القاهرة الدولى. وأوضح البٌان أنه فى ظل تضافر الجهود والتنسٌق المستمر بٌن مختلف الوزارات بالدولة المصرٌة لمواجهة إنتشار فٌروس كورونا المستجد وفى إطار التعاون الدائم بٌن وزارتً السٌاحة و اآلثار و الطٌران المدنى ،قام الٌوم الطٌار منتصر مناع نائب وزٌر الطٌران المدنى والسٌدة غادة شلبى نائبة وزٌر السٌاحة واآلثار ،بجولة تفقدٌة داخل مطار القاهرة الدولى ،وذلك وفقا ً لتوجٌهات الطٌار محمد منار وزٌر الطٌران المدنى والدكتور خالد عنانً وزٌر السٌاحة واآلثار ،حٌث قاما النائبان بزٌارة لمكاتب الحجر الصحى بالمطار لإلطمئنان على تدقٌق اإلجراءات اإلحترازٌة وطرق الفحص الطبى التى تطبقها فرق الحجر الصحى التابعة لوزارة الصحة والسكان على الركاب والسائحٌن الوافدٌن على متن جمٌع الرحالت الجوٌة القادمة إلى مطار القاهرة . االدارة العامة للعالقات العامة والمراسم قطاع االمانة العامة بالشركة القابضة لمصر للطٌران

اإلدارة األمرٌكٌة تعتزم مساعدة شركات الطٌران والنقل البحري فً مواجهة تداعٌات كورونا
قال الرئٌس األمرٌكً دونالد ترمب إن إدارته تعمل بشكل وثٌق مع شركات الطٌران وشركات تشغٌل سفن الركاب لمساعداتها فً مواجهة تداعٌات انتشار فٌروس كورونا المستجد (كوفٌد )19بالنسبة لصناعة الطٌران والنقل البحري. وأشارت وكالة بلومبرج لألنباء إلى أن ترمب كان ٌتحدث خالل اجتماعه الٌوم الثالثاء مع ممثلً قطاع التؤمٌن الصحً فً البٌت األبٌض ولم ٌقدم المزٌد من التفاصٌل بحسب ما نقلت وكالة النباء "األلمانٌة". ٌذكر أن شركات الطٌران ومشغلً سفن الركاب تعانً من تداعٌات انتشار فٌروس كورونا المستجد نتٌجة القٌود الصارمة التً فرضتها أغلب دول العالم على حركة السفر والنقل فً إطار الجهود الرامٌة إلى احتواء الفٌروس. وكانت شركتا الطٌران األمرٌكٌتان دلتا أٌرالٌنز وأمرٌكان أٌرالٌنز قد أعلنت الٌوم خفض طاقتهما التشغٌلٌة فً ظل تراجع الطلب على خدمات الطٌران بسبب انتشار فٌروس كورونا المستجد. وذكرت أمرٌكان أٌرالٌنز أنها خفضت خطوطها الدولٌة بنسبة %10خالل موسم السفر الصٌفً بما فً ذلك إلغاء %55من رحالتها عبر المحٌط األطلسً .كما ستخفض الشركة عدد رحالتها الداخلٌة فً الوالٌات المتحدة بنسبة %7.5خالل أبرٌل المقبل. وأوضحت دلتا أٌرالٌنز أنها قررت خفض رحالتها الدولٌة بما ٌتراوح بٌن %20 و %25وخفض رحالتها الداخلٌة بما ٌتراوح بٌن %10و .%15وتتضمن تحركات شركات الطٌران األمرٌكٌة خفضا أو وقفا كامال لرحالتها إلى الصٌن وخفض الرحالت إلى إٌطالٌا وإسرائٌل وكورٌا الجنوبٌة. االدارة العامة للعالقات العامة والمراسم قطاع االمانة العامة بالشركة القابضة لمصر للطٌران
شركات طٌران برٌطانٌة تعلق رحالتها إلى إٌطالٌا بسبب كورونا
علقت شركات الطٌران الجوٌة البرٌطانٌة رحالتها مع إٌطالٌا بسبب انتشار فٌروس كورونا. وقالت الخطوط الجوٌة البرٌطانٌة إنها أوقفت جمٌع الرحالت الجوٌة من وإلى إٌطالٌا الٌوم الثالثاء ،بٌنما أعلنت شركة "رٌان إٌر" أنها علقت رحاللت الطٌران أٌضا ،فً حٌن ألغت شركة "إٌزي جٌت " العشرات من رحالتها إلى إٌطالٌا أٌضا ً .وافادت هٌئة بً بً سً بؤن الخطوط الجوٌة البرٌطانٌة أرسلت برٌدا إلكترونٌا إلى جمٌع موظفٌها تطلب منهم أخذ إجازة طوعٌة غٌر مدفوعة األجر بعد تخفٌض جدول رحالتها بسبب تفشً فٌروس كورونا. االدارة العامة للعالقات العامة والمراسم قطاع االمانة العامة بالشركة القابضة لمصر للطٌران
1 شركة طٌران نروٌجٌة تلغً آالف الرحالت بسبب كورونا
أعلنت شركة الطٌران النروٌجٌة "آٌر شاتل" ذات التكلفة المنخفضة ،الثالثاء ،عن إلغاء "قرابة 3آالف رحلة" بٌن منتصف مارس ومنتصف ٌونٌو. وتمثل هذه الرحالت 15بالمئة من سعة الخطوط النروٌجٌة ،فً تلك الفترة بٌنما ٌوجه فٌروس كورونا المستجد ضربة لقطاع السفر. وذكرت الشركة فً بٌان "األسبوع الماضً شهدت الخطوط النروٌجٌة تراجعا فً الطلب على الحجوزات المستقبلٌة .ستقوم الشركة بإلغاء قرابة 3آالف رحلة بما ٌتوافق مع التغٌر على الطلب". وأضافت أن هذه اإللغاءات تشكل نحو 15بالمئة من السعة اإلجمالٌة فً الفترة ما بٌن منتصف مارس ومنتصف ٌونٌو" ،مضٌفة أن اإللغاءات ستشمل كل شبكة الخطوط. االدارة العامة للعالقات العامة والمراسم قطاع االمانة العامة بالشركة القابضة لمصر للطٌران

وفً وقت سابق ،حذرت هٌئة دولٌة من أن قطاع النقل الجوي قد ٌتكبد خسائر تصل إلى 113ملٌار دوالر فً العائدات بسبب تداعٌات فٌروس كورونا المستجد الذي ٌواصل انتشاره فً العالم. ونقلت "فرانس برس" عن رئٌس الهٌئة الدولٌة للنقل الجوي (إٌاتا) ألكسندر دو جونٌاك ،مإخرا ،أن "تطور األحداث نتٌجة كوفٌد 19-غٌر مسبوق تقرٌبا". وكانت الهٌئة الدولٌة توقعت فً فبراٌر الماضً أن تبلغ الخسائر من جراء كورونا 29ملٌار دوالر فقط ،وذلك على اعتبار أن التؤثٌر محصور بؤسواق مرتبطة بالصٌن. وتحدثت أرقام سابقة عن إقٌام 70شركة طٌران عالمٌة بإلغاء جمٌع رحالتها إلى الصٌن الم ّتجهة من وإلى البر الرئٌسً للصٌن. وقالت منظمة الطٌران المدنً الدولً "إٌكاو" التابعة لألمم المتحدة فً تقرٌر لها إن الربع األول من العام الجاري سجل "انخفاضا ً بنسبة تتراوح بٌن 39بالمئة و41 بالمئة فً سعة الركاب.

1 Malaysia Airlines cutting capacity 7% in first quarter
Malaysia Airlines is scaling down first-quarter capacity 7.1% amid the coronavirus outbreak, as it halves Chinese operations and makes a double-digit cut to North Asian services. Addressing employees in a video seen by Cirium, Izham Ismail – chief executive of the airline’s parent Malaysia Aviation Group – describes the 7.1% reduction as “huge”. He notes the cancellation of “more than 1,600 flights” to date and says he expects the number to rise if the outbreak continues to affect demand for air travel. “Malaysia Aviation Group is not spared from all of this,” says Izham. “Drastic action from all of us needs to be taken. Revenue climbed 7%, and net income rose despite higher fuel costs, foreign-exchange movements, and the adoption of a new accounting standard on leases. Initiatives to raise revenue included introduction of a new family fare, upselling of its business-class offering, and promotion of new ancillary products. Although a passenger-revenue target was missed by 3%, on a per-unit basis it was up 3%, as capacity was increased 5%. Yield likewise rose 5%. However, Izham did not provide a figure for the operating result. After it achieved 65% of a savings target last year, he stresses the need for better cost control on a group level. “What we need to do better is in further breaking costs down. 1 Global airlines cut capacity, staff, costs due to COVID-19 A growing number of airlines have unveiled measures to combat the effects of the COVID-19 epidemics, including grounding aircraft, cutting capacity, and furloughing staff. Cathay Pacific (CX, Hong Kong Int'l) together with its subsidiaries Cathay Dragon, HK Express, and Air Hong Kong has grounded around 120 out of its 237 aircraft, the South China Morning Post reported. While actual aircraft on the ground are rotated, the number of parked units remains relatively stable. The group has also slashed 75% of its total number of flights initially planned for March. It is planning to send 25,000 employees, around 75% of the entire staff, on unpaid leave. Vietnam Airlines (VN, Hanoi) said that it had a surplus capacity of around 40 aircraft out of its total fleet of 101 aircraft, including six ATR72-500s operated by subsidiary VASCO Vietnam Air Services, BizLIVE has reported. The Vietnamese flag carrier terminated the wet-lease of one A321-200 from subsidiary Cambodia Angkor Air in mid-February, according to Flightradar24 ADS-B data. The airline said that its revenues in February were almost 60% below the original plan, while the current sales for March amount to just 7% of the forecast. 2 Emirates (EK, Dubai Int'l) told employees in an internal e-mail, seen by Reuters, that it had noted a "measurable slowdown" in business and has now asked all employees to consider taking paid as well as unpaid leave. Short of furloughing staff, United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare) has offered its widebody pilots a month off in April at a salary equivalent to 50 working hours, short of the 80-hour regular monthly remuneration, Chairman of the United branch of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) Todd Insler wrote in a memo, seen by CNBC. SAS Scandinavian Airlines (SK, Copenhagen Kastrup) has announced that it will suspend its services from Copenhagen Kastrup to Hong Kong Int'l as of March 5, on top of the already suspended routes to mainland China. The Scandinavian flag carrier warned that it "will in the next couple of months seek to reduce part of its short-haul network capacity". The airline will also freeze new hiring, seek to cut its administrative and personnel expenses, and review all non-critical costs, such as marketing campaigns. It said that in terms of its personnel-related measures, it would explore voluntary leaves, temporary layoffs, early retirement, and other initiatives. China Airlines (CI, Taipei Taoyuan) said in an open letter to its staff that it cut 49% of flights scheduled for March and already 33% in April, while its load factor on the operating flights was under 50%. To mitigate the "avalanche-like" fallout of the epidemic, the Taiwanese carrier said it would reduce working hours of its staff, cut base salary by 10%, and implement a comprehensive policy of unpaid leaves. 3 Having announced "alterations" affecting "some of our services", Qatar Airways (QR, Doha Hamad Int'l) is also reportedly planning to lay off some of its staff, Saudi newspaper Slaati has reported, citing unofficial sources. Finnair (AY, Helsinki Vantaa) has announced that besides suspending all flights to China, South Korea, and Milan Malpensa, as well as reducing frequencies to Osaka Kansai and Hong Kong Int'l, it will also "start negotiations on planned temporary layoffs affecting the entire Finnair personnel based in Finland". The airline is planning to temporarily lay off all Finland-based staff for a 14-30 day period, on a rotational basis. The airline is also planning steps to temporarily lay off staff outside of its home country and is reviewing all costs, including sales and marketing initiatives. Chief Executive at Virgin Atlantic (VS, London Heathrow) Shai Weiss will take a 20% pay cut between April and July, while the other members of the British carrier's executive time will see their remuneration reduced by 15%. The airline has also frozen recruitment and extended an offer to all ground staff to take between one and two weeks of unpaid leave until July 31. The carrier is planning to defer annual salary increases from March to August. 4 Following its announcement of a 25% cut of short- and medium-haul capacity, Lufthansa Group now has 150 aircraft on the ground, including 25 widebody units and 125 smaller aircraft, including narrowbodies and regional jets. The group extended the suspension of flights to mainland China to April 24, to Tehran Imam Khomeini - to April 30, and reduced frequencies to Beijing, Seoul, and Italy. As of March 8, it will also suspend all flights to Tel Aviv Ben Gurion and Eilat Ramon. Austrian Airlines said that it alone will reduce capacity to Italy by 40% and the European total by 20%. Korean Air (KE, Seoul Incheon) will reduce its global capacity by 80%, including cuts to multiple services to Europe and the United States, Reuters has reported. Norwegian Group said it will cancel 22 transatlantic flights between March 28 and May 5, 2020, including select services from Rome Fiumicino to Los Angeles Int'l, Boston, and New York JFK, and from London Gatwick to New York; Despite the still relatively low number of cases of COVID-19 in Latin America, Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras (AD, Sao Paulo Viracopos) became the first major carrier in the region to announce significant route cuts. As reported by local aviation news service AEROIN, the airline will suspend its 3x weekly service between Sao Paulo Viracopos and Porto between September 19, 2020, and March 25, 2021. 5 Lufthansa Group announced further cuts to capacity, slashing it by 50% compared to the original plan. The group said that cuts would affect all the passenger airlines it owns. Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt Int'l) is also evaluating grounding all fourteen A380-800s. Lufthansa Group said that it has also started talks with unions regarding measures which would allow it to avoid dismissals, including various part-time work models. The Kronen Zeitung reported that Austrian Airlines (OS, Vienna) is negotiating with unions to shorten working hours for 7,000 employees, although the change would not take effect earlier than April 1. Malindo Air (OD, Kuala Lumpur Int'l), the Malaysian full-service unit of Lion Air Group, has asked its staff to take both two weeks of unpaid holidays and 50% salary cuts "for the next several months until normalcy returns", it said in an internal memo reported by Reuters. Smartwings Group said in a press release that it will implement wide-ranging cuts at both its carriers, leisure specialist Smartwings (Czechia) (QS, Prague Václav Havel) and full-service carrier CSA Czech Airlines (OK, Prague Václav Havel). While scarce on details, the airline listed planned measures as temporary part-time work and unpaid leave, suspension of recruitment and training, administrative cuts, and an investment freeze. 6 Qantas Group said that it will expand its previously announced cuts to its international capacity across both Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) and Jetstar Airways (JQ, Melbourne Tullamarine) to a total of 23% compared to the same period of 2019. The cuts are scheduled to last until mid-September 2020. The airline will focus the capacity reductions on its Asian routes (capacity down by 31%), although capacity to the United States, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand will also be down by double-digits each. Qantas said that it will seek to downgauge aircraft and reduce frequencies rather than suspend routes. The airline has also grounded six A380-800s. A further two quadjets are in maintenance, leaving just two in active service. The Australian carrier will also replace Singapore Changi with Perth Int'l as an intermediary stop on its Sydney Kingsford Smith-London Heathrow service due to passengers' preference to avoid Asian hubs. The launch of Brisbane Int'l-Chicago O'Hare service will be delayed from April 15 to mid-September. Qantas Group has also announced smaller cuts to domestic capacity, resulting in a 17% capacity reduction across its entire network, equivalent to 38 grounded aircraft. Malaysia Aviation Group, the parent of Malaysia Airlines (MH, Kuala Lumpur Int'l), said that its top executive will take 10% pay cuts in response to the crisis but hinted that further actions are likely. 7 Norwegian Group said it will cancel around 3,000 flights between mid-March and mid-June 2020, equivalent to some 15% of its total capacity. The group will announce further details as cancellations are implemented. It is also planning temporary layoffs of both its cabin and cockpit crews and ground staff. "We will continue to engage in constructive dialogue with unions and employees to work through this difficult situation together," Chief Executive Jacob Schram said. Volga-Dnepr Group announced that despite the recent spike in cargo rates caused by the lack of passenger bellyhold capacity, it is negotiating the return of five B747 freighters out of the total of twenty-one operated by the group's two units, CargoLogicAir (P3, London Stansted) and AirBridgeCargo (RU, Ulyanovsk Vostochny). The group currently has 30% of all of its aircraft on the ground. VicePresident (Strategic Management) Tatyana Arslanova told Kommersant that the group was also negotiating lease rate deferrals. It is also contemplating reducing the fleet of its narrowbody unit, Atran (V8, Moscow Vnukovo), which currently operates three B737-400(F)s and two -800(F)s.

1 Cathay Pacific deploys passenger widebodies for cargo ops
Cathay Pacific (CX, Hong Kong Int'l) has confirmed it is using A330-300s, operated by its subsidiary Cathay Dragon (KA, Hong Kong Int'l), to run cargo routes between Hong Kong Int'l and Chinese gateways in light of a recent surge in demand for freight to and from the mainland. According to Cargo Facts, the airline is using Cathay Dragon's A330-300s on a daily route to Beijing Capital and on 3x weekly services to each of Shanghai Pudong and Xiamen. No passengers are transported on these services as the airline only utilises bellyhold capacity to carry freight. Cathay Dragon maintains daily passenger services to Beijing and Shanghai and a 3x weekly service to Xiamen. All three are operated with A330-300s. Cathay Pacific itself does not operate any scheduled passenger services into mainland China at present. However, it retains scheduled cargo flights to five cities in the country (including Shanghai and Xiamen but not Beijing) using B747-8(F)s and B747-400(F)s. 2 In a notice to customers, Cathay also said that it would consider similar steps concerning its services to Japan following the group's decision to suspend all passenger services to the country effective March 9 or 13, depending on the route. "Following the temporary suspension of passenger services to Japan, we are currently evaluating how to continue serving our cargo customers to and from Japan. This includes the retention of passenger services for cargo carriage only," Cathay said. According to the ch-aviation schedules module, Cathay Pacific currently operates passenger services to Nagoya Chubu, Osaka Kansai, Sapporo Chitose, Tokyo Haneda, and Tokyo Narita, while Cathay Dragon flies to Fukuoka. 1 Air Serbia Sukhoi SSJ100 Talks To Resume This Summer
Reports have emerged that Serbia and Russia will resume talks over the potential purchase of Sukhoi SSJ100 aircraft for Air Serbia. Is this a political matter, or is the airline actually involved? Sukhoi needs a customer Simple Flying previously compared the Sukhoi SSJ100 to Airbus’ A220 aircraft, viewing the SSJ as a direct competitor. The SJ100 is a regional plane that can fly 100 passengers to a distance of 1,894 nautical miles. 2 Sukhoi is very keen to find a customer in Europe to raise the profile of its SSJ100 aircraft. Presently, only Russian airline Aeroflot continues to use the aircraft in Europe on regular scheduled flights. Indeed, it recently agreed to take five more. One such European customer was meant to be Adria Airways. Adria ordered 15 SSJ-100 which were due for delivery in April 2019. But the deal fell through after Sukhoi made the judgement that Adria Airways was not in a sound financial position. And it was right, because Adria subsequently collapsed. Air Serbia badly needs new aircraft Meanwhile, Air Serbia is examining its options for fleet renewal. The airline is in need of new aircraft for two reasons. Firstly, Air Serbia is undergoing a significant network expansion. After it launched 21 new routes last year, this year it plans to launch another 10. Thus, it requires additional capacity. Secondly, Air Serbia has a pressing need to replace its existing capacity. The airline has one of the oldest fleets of any national airline in Europe. The average age of Air Serbia aircraft is 18 years, according to airfleets.net. In its fleet are four Boeing 737 aircraft that are 34 years old and six ATR 72 aircraft that are over 24 years old. Even its Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft are on average 18 years old. As Simple Flying reported in December, Air Serbia appears to be close to a major deal with Sukhoi to lease or purchase the SSJ100 for this fleet expansion. Would Sukhoi SSJ100 be right for Air Serbia? For the past six months there have been news reports in local media that Serbia and Russia are in talks about a Sukhoi order for Air Serbia. However, these have never actually included any official statement from Air Serbia itself. It appears that the airline is less interested in the order than Serbian and Russian politicians are. The latest story involves Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov, who announced this resumption of talks as part of a lengthier speech on the investments that Russia wants to undertake in Russia. 1 Boeing 737 MAX Grounding – 1 Year On
One year ago today, airlines and aviation authorities around the world began grounding the Boeing 737 MAX. The grounding came following a second fatal accident involving a Boeing 737 MAX in the space of a year. Over the past year, the Boeing 737 MAX has dominated headlines. More often than not, this was not for the right reasons. A year ago, nobody would’ve envisioned that the MAX grounding would last this long. However, today marks a year since the first 737 MAX was grounded. Why was the MAX grounded? The Boeing 737 MAX was first grounded a year ago following two fatal crashes of the type. The first crash saw a Lion Air 737 MAX crash into the sea shortly after departure from Jakarta. Flight 610 was lost, along with all 189 onboard the aircraft. This accident occurred on the 29th of October 2018. The second accident occurred a year ago today. An Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX crashed into the ground just outside of Addis Ababa. The flight had been heading to Nairobi when it crashed. Why was the aircraft grounded? Fairly shortly after the second Boeing 737 MAX crash, parallels began to be drawn between the two accidents. As a result, airlines and aviation authorities around the globe began grounding the aircraft. Initially, Ethiopian Airlines grounded its MAX aircraft immediately, one year ago today. The next grounding order came from the Chinese Civil Aviation Administration early on the 11th. On the 12th of March 2019, a number of further groundings were ordered, including across the entirety of Europe by the European Aviation Safety Agency. What’s next for the MAX? Initially, when the MAX was grounded, it seemed as though the issue would be solved after a couple of months at most. However, this did not prove to be the case, as aircraft have remained on the ground since. Last week Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary told Simple Flying:
“I think there is a reasonable degree of confidence between Boeing and the FAA [that the MAX will be recertified] end of June, early July. That was originally a conservative kind of deadline date, and more likely to be an accurate deadline. The risk is further movement to the right.” While the 737 MAX reentry to service seems closer than ever before, we likely won’t know an exact date until the aircraft is recertified.
