Singapore Airlines plane collapses at Changi Airport SINGAPORE — The Singapore Airlines (SIA) plane collapsed this morning (Oct 11) after its nose gear retracted during a landing gear check at Changi Airport Terminal 3, confirmed the airline in response to queries from Channel NewsAsia. There were no passengers or crew on board at the time, said SIA. At the time of the collapse at Terminal 3, which happened around 8am, one engineer was on the aircraft but was not hurt, added the airline. SIA said the Airbus A330-300 is registered as 9V-STG, and had last operated flight SQ835 which arrived in Singapore from Shanghai at 12.49am. The aircraft was next due to have operated SQ890 to Hong Kong this morning. However, another aircraft was used for that flight due to maintenance being carried out on the plane which collapsed, said the airline. According to online flight schedules, SQ890 was scheduled to depart at 7.35am this morning, but took off instead at 8.18am. "We do not have details of damage to the aircraft at this point. An assessment will be carried out after it is removed from the gate," said SIA. "Singapore Airlines will be co-operating fully with the authorities in their investigations." Photos sent to Channel NewsAsia today showed the nose of the plane tilted downward on the tarmac of Changi Airport next to an aerobridge, and the photos appear to show that the front door of the plane was torn off.

Sabre forecasts 11% year-on decline in Lufthansa bookings for rest of 2015 As an impact of its decision to impose a levy on all bookings made through Global Distribution Systems (GDS), Lufthansa is seeing a decline in GDS-based bookings. As per a report on Tnooz, based on the booking data covering the weeks since the German carrier introduced its EUR 16 fee on all GDS bookings, Sabre is forecasting a 11% year-on decline in its Lufthansa bookings for the rest of 2015. Lufthansa Group bookings in Europe via the GDS (Sabre, Travelport and Amadeus) in the first two weeks of September are down 16.1% versus a flat year-to-date up to August. The main beneficiaries of this change are Air France, British Airways, SAS, Alitalia and United which are experiencing significantly higher bookings growth according to the report..In segments where Lufthansa has a market of 30% to 60%, share drops of up to 30% were experienced in the first week of September. Competitor carriers British Airways, Air Berlin and Air France are stated as gaining from the declines. Sabre’s billable bookings for the Lufthansa Group are also down 15.6% in the first two weeks of September compared 10.7% growth in the year-to-date to August. Sabre has adjusted this figure to 11.5% to account for the US Labor Day break. The document also outlines the impact on agency bookings, with the vast majority of Sabre’s top 25 intermediary customers seeing declines on volumes in the first two weeks of September. It also discloses a number of routes that it believes have experienced changes in booking volumes, in particular on the competitive Frankfurt-NYC leg. On a country-by-country basis, Lufthansa GDS booking volumes yearon-year on Sabre in the first two weeks of September have fallen dramatically from agencies in Greece (33.8%), Sweden (47.1%) and Switzerland (41.6%).Lufthansa’s domestic Sabre agency customers have seen volumes drop by 19.9% over the same period, with Sabre’s biggest agency base of the US falling by 24.8%.
