مطار القاهرة ٌستقبل 7آالف زائر من مختلف الجنسٌات
محمود ابراهٌم قال مصدر مسئول بشركة مٌناء القاهرة الجوى ،إن مطار القاهرة الدولى ،استقبل خالل الـ 12ساعة الماضٌة ،أكثر من 7آالف راكب من مختلف الجنسٌات قادمٌن على متن 75رحلة جوٌة دولٌة من المدن والعواصم العربٌة والعالمٌة ،لزٌارة المعالم السٌاحٌة واألثرٌة بالمدن المصرٌة. وأضاف فى تصرٌحات خاصة لـ"المصدر" ،الثالثاء ،أنه فى إطار خطة وزارة الطٌران المدنى ،لتنشٌط الحركة السٌاحٌة الداخلٌة ،تم تقدٌم جمٌع الخدمات والتسهٌالت للوفود السٌاحٌة ،فضال على تأمٌن خروجهم من مطار القاهرة حتى مقار إقامتهم بالفنادق. وأوضح أن الوفود وصلت من دول الوالٌات المتحدة األمرٌكٌة وألمانٌا واسترالٌا وكندا وتركٌا وفرنسا وبرٌطانٌا والصٌن والٌابان واألمارات والكوٌت والسعودٌة والبحرٌن. وتعمل وزارة الطٌران المدنى حالٌا بالتنسٌق مع وزارة السٌاحٌة على إٌجاد فرصة تسوٌقٌة وتروٌجٌة للمدن السٌاحٌة لجذب العدٌد من الوفود من مختلف دول العالم ،واستغالل حالة االستقرار األمنً والسٌاسً واالقتصادي التً تشهدها البالد حالٌا

انتهت شركة مصر للطٌران للصٌانة ،من عملٌات تطوٌر الجزء الشرقً لهنجر ،6000وذلك ضمن خطة الشركة للحفاظ على المنشآت وتطوٌرها ورفع كفاءتها . شمل تطوٌر الهنجر معالجة األرضٌات والفواصل ،وتغٌٌر اللمبات المستخدمة إلى اللٌد الموفرة ،وذلك إلنارة الهنجر بشكل أفضل ،ودهان الحوائط الجانبٌة ،ومراجعة شبكات اإلضاءة والمعلومات وأسالك التلٌفونات وشبكات التكٌٌف وضبط وصالتها ،على أن ٌتم البدء فً أعمال تطوٌر النصف الغربً من الهنجر فً األسابٌع القلٌلة القادمة. ٌتسع هنجر 6000الً طائرتٌن متوسطة الحجم ،ومنذ انشاء الهنجر تم علٌه بعض أعمال التطوٌر الجزئٌة مثل نظام اإلنذار اآللً وشبكة إضاءة لٌلٌة ،والضغط المتوسط والمنخفض ،والحاقه بمحطة إطفاء حرٌق.

مصر للطٌران تحقق % 70زٌادة فى مبٌعات رحالت نٌوٌورك أحمد مسعود مصر للطٌران تحقق % 70زٌادة فى مبٌعات رحالت نٌوٌورك من موقع مصرس ،بتارٌخ الٌوم الثالثاء 11دٌسمبر . 2018 حققت رحالت شركة مصر للطٌران بٌن نٌوٌورك والقاهرة زٌادة فى المبٌعات بلغت %70زٌادة مقارنة بنفس الفترة من العام الماضى وبلغت المبٌعات على موقع الشركة اونالٌن %30بٌنما تراوحت نسبة امتالء مقاعد الرحالت بٌن %90و % 100وتشهد فترة أعٌاد الكرٌسماس واإلجازات إقبال المصرٌٌن للسفر إلى مصر وقضاءها بٌن ذوٌهم وأحضان وطنهم. وقد أصدر الطٌار أحمد عادل رئٌس الشركة القابضة لمصر للطٌران توجٌهاته بتنوٌع السٌاسات التسوٌقٌة من خالل طرح أسعار تنشٌطٌة لجذب الحركة على الرحالت ومواكبة األسواق الخارجٌة بما ٌنعكس على إٌرادات الشركة من مبٌعات تذاكر السفر وقام طارق عدوى مدٌر إقلٌمى الشركة فى أمرٌكا وكندا باالتفاق مع العدٌد من شركات الطٌران األمرٌكٌة التى تعمل بٌن مطارات الوالٌات األمرٌكٌة على نقل الركاب حتى مطار نٌوٌورك ومنها إلى القاهرة مباشرة على مصر للطٌران كما ٌقوم المكتب بحجز الرحالت للراغبٌن فى استكمال سفرهم إلى العواصم التى تنظم لها رحالت كترانزٌت عبر مطار القاهرة لدول الخلٌج وبٌروت وعمان وعواصم القارة اإلفرٌقٌة.ش

األسواق الناشئة سر ضبط المٌزان السٌاحً ..سٌاحٌون :تحتاج مزٌدا من رحالت الطٌران ..ونهاٌة 2019سنحقق أكثر من 400ألف سائح صٌنً محمد االسكندرانى أصابت السٌاحة المصرٌة خالل السنوات القلٌلة الماضٌة عدة معتركات أبرزها التقلبات السٌاسٌة التً ألقت بظاللها علً القطاع فً شكل انخفاض بمؤشرات األرقام ،وسرعان ما توجه عدة وزراء تولوا حقٌبة السٌاحة بالتنسٌق مع القطاع الخاص إلى إٌجاد بدٌل سرٌع لتكون كلمة السر فً ضبط المٌزان السٌاحً "األسواق السٌاحٌة الناشئة"، والتً خاضت عدة شركات مصرٌة مخاطرة التوجه إلٌها لتكلل بالنجاح لتعٌد الحٌاة من جدٌد للقطاع وفً إطار ذلك نرصد آراء خبراء القطاع حول أهمٌة األسواق الناشئة للقطاع السٌاحً المصري. قال محمد شعٌرة عضو الجمعٌة العمومٌة لغرفة شركات السٌاحة ،إن نمو وصعود مؤشر األسواق السٌاحٌة الناشئة تحتاج اهتماما ورعاٌة الدولة لتسٌٌر الطٌران إلى مقاصدنا المختلفة. أكد شعٌرة فً تصرٌح لـ"صدى البلد" أن هناك شركات سٌاحٌة اقتحمت الدول السٌاحٌة الناشئة لجذب السائح ولنا تجربة فً ذلك حٌث تعمل 3شركات مصرٌة فقط بالسوق الكازاخستانً وتضمنت نشاطاتنا فً استقبال 25وكٌال سٌاحٌا من ذلك السوق فً شرم الشٌخ استعدادا للكرٌسماس. تابع عضو الجمعٌة العمومٌة لغرفة شركات السٌاحة أن أول مارس 2019لدٌنا حجم سٌاحة جٌد من السوق الكازاخً ٌتبعه من شهر ماٌو إلى أكتوبر 3طائرات فً األسبوع فً الغردقة باإلضافة إلى 10طائرات بشرم الشٌخ. أشار شعٌرة إلى أن األزمة الحقٌقٌة للسٌاحة تكمن فً عدم كفاٌة حركة النقل "الطٌران" بصفة عامة حٌث نشهد استقرارا تاما ،مؤكدا أننا نرٌد فتح العدٌد من األسواق األخرى. أضاف إلى عمله بعدة أسواق أخرى مثل إندونٌسٌا وأوزبكستان التً تحتاج لتسٌٌر العدٌد من الرحالت الٌها لضخ السائحٌن إلً المقصد السٌاحً المصري.

2 حول المؤشرات السٌاحٌة فً 2019توقع شعٌرة أن ٌشهد المقصد المصري رواجا سٌاحٌا وطلبا كثٌفا ،الفتا إلى أن الظروف المحٌطة اٌجابٌة خاصة فً ظل تحركات الرئٌس السٌسً علً المستوي الدولً الذي دعم دخولنا األسواق الناشئة. قال حسن النحلة نقٌب المرشدٌن السٌاحٌٌن ،إن السٌاحة المصرٌة فً 2018إقتربت معدالتها من عام الذروة 2010فً كثٌر من األسواق ولكن هناك البعض اآلخر لم نستعد منه عافٌتنا مثل إٌطالٌا وفرنسا وروسٌا. وأكد النحلة فً تصرٌح لـ"صدي البلد" ،أن هناك العدٌد من األسواق الناشئة تم االتجاه الٌها أبرزها دول أمرٌكا الالتٌنٌة مثل األرجنتٌن والمكسٌك والبرازٌل وكولومبٌا حققت أعدادا جٌدة ولكن تواجه مشكلة وهً تسٌٌر مزٌد من رحالت الطٌران. ونوه أن هناك أسوا ًقا سٌاحٌة ناشئة فً طرٌقها إلٌنا بقوة مثل دول شرق آسٌا مالٌزٌا وسنغافورة وهونج كونج وتاٌالند ،مؤكدا أن الٌابان والصٌن سٌكونان قاطرة تلك الدول للمقصد السٌاحً المصري ولكن مازاال تبحثان عن الطٌران المباشر لمصر. وأشار إلً ضرورة وجود اتحاد بٌن القطاع الخاص والشركة الوطنٌة مصر للطٌران لدراسة األسواق الناشئة وتقفٌل خطوط الطٌران لها حتً لو رحلة أسبوعٌة سٌؤدي لتوافد الكثٌر من األعداد للمقصد المصري. ولفت إلى أن األسواق التقلٌدٌة تشهد استقرارا منها اإلنجلٌز الذٌن ٌحصدون مراتب جٌدة فً الغردقة ،باإلضافة إلً أن اإلسبانً والصٌنً ٌواصالن االرتفاع. وحول آلٌات التواجد فً األسواق السٌاحٌة الناشئة اقترح إقامة المعارض الدولٌة وإطالق الكرنفاالت واستخدام "المٌدٌا" ومواقع التواصل االجتماعً باإلضافة إلى تحدٌد أهدافنا عبر دراسة تلك األسواق واحتٌاجاتها. قال الدكتور ناصر عبدالعال مستشار وزٌر السٌاحة األسبق لشئون آسٌا إن األسواق الناشئة هً أسواق وسط آسٌا ودول االتحاد السوفٌتً السابق مثل كازاخستان وأذربٌجان ولكنها تحتاج لمزٌد من حركة النقل الجوي. أضاف عبد العال أن الصٌن والهند أصبحا سوقا قوٌا ،الفتا إلى أن مصر لدٌها مكتبان لتروٌج السٌاحة بهما ٌغطون منطقة شرق أسٌا مطالبا بتفعٌل تواجدهما بشكل كاف. أكد عبدالعال فً تصرٌح لـ"صدي البلد" أننا نمتلك بنٌة تحتٌة قوٌة تساهم بقدر كاف لدعم العملٌة السٌاحٌة ضاربا المثل بمنطقة الساحل الشمالً الطفرة الفندقٌة ،باإلضافة إلى إقامة مدٌنة العالمٌة ناهٌك عن توسع اإلنشاءات الفندقٌة على غرار الماسة وما به من سٌاحة المؤتمرات تعد طفرة تضاف للقطاع. تابع مستشار وزٌر السٌاحة األسبق لشئون آسٌا أن البنٌة التحتٌة للمواصالت منها افتتاح مطار غرب القاهرةٌ ،ؤكد أننا مستعدون الستقبال السائحٌن بشكل قوي ،الفتا أننا نسعى الستخدام الٌوان الصٌنً بدٌال عن الدوالر للخدمات السٌاحٌة المقدمة ناهٌك عن التأشٌرة التً أصبحت سهلة الحصول على غرار الدول العالمٌة. نصح إلى ضرورة أال تغٌب عن األسواق المتواجدٌن بها مناشدا بمزٌد من الدعم المادي لمكتبً مصر السٌاحٌة بالصٌن والهند النتشار أوسع لٌطال كل أسٌا بالشكل الكافً. طالب بمشاركة الغرف السٌاحٌة وزارة السٌاحة بالدفع بعملٌة التروٌج السٌاحً بالتواجد عبر برامج جدٌدة فً ضوء البنٌة التحتٌة الجدٌدة فً مصر. وحول توقعات السٌاحة الصٌنٌة فً مصر توقع أن بنهاٌة عام 2019القادم تقارب األعداد السٌاحٌة أكثر من 400ألف سائح.

عبدالعظٌمٌ :جب استحداث استراتٌجٌة للتعامل مع السٌاحة االفرٌقٌة محمد االسكندرانى قال عماري عبد العظٌم رئٌس شعبة السٌاحة والطٌران السابق بالغرفة التجارٌة إن أفرٌقٌا بوابة سٌاحٌة هامة ٌجب أن ٌكون لها استراتٌجٌة تسوٌق مختلفة عن أوروبا واصفا مصر بالبوابة الرئٌسٌة لدول القارة السمراء ولكن ٌنقصنا الطٌران الشارتر لنقل السائحٌن الً المقصد المصري. وطالب رئٌس شعبة السٌاحة والطٌران السابق فً تصرٌح لـ صدى البلد ،مصر للطٌران ووزارة السٌاحة بالشراكة مع القطاع الخاص والتواجد فً السوق األفرٌقً مناشدا بضرورة االستفادة من تحركات الرئٌس السٌسً واللقاءات الدولٌة علً مستوي القارة االفرٌقٌة لالستثمار السٌاحً.

Boeing Eyes Egyptair Dreamliner Jet Airliners Order Boeing, an American multinational corporation that designs, manufactures, and sells airplanes, aims to sign new contracts with EgyptAir in order to supply more Dreamliner jet airliners for the Egyptian company, as both companies are in ongoing cooperation talks, Bernard J Dunn, president of Boeing Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey (MENAT), informed Daily News Egypt. ―There are some plans for signing future sales’ contracts with EgyptAir after the Egyptian flag carrier airline recognised the advantages of our Dreamliner jets, and will put them into operation after next March. Hopefully, we will provide EgyptAir with more Dreamliner jets as they to be of proved high quality,‖ mentioned Dunn. Daily News Egypt interviewed Dunn; Tim Buerk, Boeing Global Services’ (BGS) director for Middle East and Africa; and Paul Curlett, senior manager at Boeing for international government services, during EDEX 2018, Egypt’s first tri-service defence exhibition covering air, land, and sea, held from 3 to 5 December, the transcript for which is below, lightly edited for clarity: We know that you met with President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi during EDEX 2018, what did you discuss? Dunn: I had the honour of welcoming President Al-Sisi at Boeing’s pavilion in EDEX 2018, and showed him some of our products. We are in ongoing talks with the Egyptian armed forces to boost cooperation and supply the required equipment. I was very honoured to have a short conversation with the president about this issue. Are there any updates regarding the company’s plans to open a local office in Egypt? Our plans for opening a local office in Egypt are still alive. We just need to sign a couple of deals first that will allow us to move this step forward. Would you please elaborate about your plans to open a STEM education centre in Egypt? We implement an extensive programme called the Boeing Global Engagement (BGE) which primarily focuses on community engagement activities. It comes in line with the company’s commitment towards giving something back to the world markets in which we work.

2 We gradually increased our BGE work in Egypt during the last two years, as we aim to focus on this market and give it the attention that it always deserves. Meanwhile, we are proud to launch a new edition of the BGE programme, which is a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) centre. It comes in conjunction with the World Learning Organisation, a non-profit international entity which focuses on knowledge, education, and exchanging programmes. Boeing will allocate a special budget for the STEM Centre in 2019. We expect that it will include 12,000 young people in its first year. Where will you establish the STEM Centre? We have not yet chosen the centre’s location. However, it will be in Cairo because it will suitable for us. Do you plan to open more STEM Centres in other governorates? Yes, we have plans to expand our STEM Centres nationwide but after the first year. We plan to inaugurate three STEM Centres over the next three years. The first will be in Cairo, the second will likely be in Alexandria, and the third one’s location is still under discussion. What is the expected budget for the planned STEM Centres? I cannot tell you how much it will be exactly, but it will be large and last until 2021, which illustrates Boeing’s confidence in the market. What are Boeing’s goals for establishing STEM Centres? The concept of STEM Centres is to provide a place for young people where they can learn about STEM through interactive online activities, which they can access under the supervision of the centre’s staff. STEM is one of the BGE’s main pillars around the world. It is also a field that President Al-Sisi works on promoting in Egypt. The president wants his citizens to be technologically trained, and capable of working in aviation, as well as other high-tech industries. I also talked with various civil society leaders in Egypt, and they would love to see the day when Egyptians can work in international companies like Boeing. The STEM Centre will help to discover young talents and support them with STEM education to change their lives for the better.

3 Do you coordinate with the Egyptian education ministry regarding STEM Centres? Sure, we are coordinating with the ministry of education and they are very supportive. Boeing will bear all the expenses of the STEM Centres, without burdening the Egyptian government. The STEM Centres’ target students aged 12-16. The curriculum will be provided in cooperation with World Learning. What are the latest developments of Boeing’s other activities, including those with INJAZ Egypt? We are implementing other programmes with INJAZ Egypt; the Education For Employment (EFE), a leading youth employment organisation; and the Al-Nour Wal Amal Association (Light and Hope), where we are helping blind ladies to become musicians. Our cooperation with INJAZ is going very well. We have reached out to a large number of people and helped them to create their own companies during the last two years. Our programmes in Egypt are actually very successful. Egyptian youth are so enthusiastic and desirous. What about the company’s cooperation with Egyptian universities? We have a partnership with Cairo University over the last two years. We are in talks with Ain Shams University and Alexandria University over more cooperation agreements. We would definitely like to expand our activities in Egyptian universities similar to the STEM concept which can be a good way to reach out to young people and prepare them for the labour market. Are there any updates regarding the cooperation with EgyptAir? EgyptAir is our customer and we are keen on keeping continuous discussions about sales, services, and everything they need. We are in ongoing talks with EgyptAir. We have some plans for future sales contracts. EgyptAir will add new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets to its fleet next year. The Egyptian flag carrier airline recognised the advantages of our Dreamliner jets and will put them in operation after next March. Hopefully, we will provide EgyptAir with more Dreamliner jets as they proved to be of high quality. Boeing and AerCap announced during the 2017 Dubai Airshow that EgyptAir will lease six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner jets.

4 How do you assess the cooperation with the MENAT region in 2018? And what are the company’s 2019 plans? There are many regional economic and political changes. This is something everybody is aware of. We are in touch with all of our partners and customers. We have sales contracts of about 2,990 new commercial airplanes in this region over the next 20 years. It shows the need for about 63,000 new pilots and 67,000 new technicians as well as 92,000 air crew. It is a growing market. On 17 July, Boeing lifted its long-term forecast for commercial airplanes as rising passenger traffic and upcoming airplane retirements drove the need for 42,730 new jets – valued at $6.3tn – over the next 20 years. The global airplane fleet will also sustain growing demand for commercial aviation services, leading to a total market opportunity of $15tn. For defence industries, the Middle East is always a good market, and we have strong coordination with all of our customers What are the top five regional airlines which purchase your airplanes? Boeing respects all its customers. However, the top five airlines are Emirates, which is currently the world’s largest operator of the 777 and the only airline that operates all the variants of this aircraft; Flydubai with an all-Boeing fleet; Saudi Arabian Airlines, which operates Boeing twin-aisle airplanes; Qatar Airways, which has the largest 787 fleet in the Middle East; and EgyptAir. Does Boeing have airplane factories in the MENA region? We are set to launch factories in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. However, most of our manufacturing is done in the United States. In April 2012, Boeing and Mubadala announced a 10-year direct contract for Strata Manufacturing, an advanced composite aerostructures manufacturing company wholly owned by Mubadala in Al Ain, to produce commercial composite

5 aerostructures for the 777 and the 787 Dreamliner. Strata currently manufactures ribs for the empennage of the 777 and vertical fin ribs for the 787 Dreamliner. In 2014, Strata’s first shipset of empennage ribs was installed in a 777-300ER (Extended Range) which was delivered to Emirates Airline. In 2015, Strata’s first shipset of 787 vertical fin ribs was installed in a 787-9 Dreamliner delivered to Etihad Airways. At the 2016 Farnborough Air Show, the companies announced that Strata would expand its work statement for Boeing as a supplier of the 787 vertical fin—a major composite assembly for Boeing’s most advanced airplane programme. Additionally, Boeing agreed to source pre-impregnated composite materials for the new 777X from a new, UAE-based joint venture created by Mubadala and Solvay, making Boeing their first customer. Also, Boeing is supporting the UAE’s research and development objectives in order to ensure sustainable growth of its booming aerospace industry. In 2016, Boeing and Mubadala signed an agreement to support bilateral research projects conducted at the Khalifa University and the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology. At the 2013 Dubai Airshow, Boeing signed a partnership with the Tawazun Precision Industries (TPI), an Emirates Defence Industries Company (EDIC) subsidiary, to establish a new aerospace surface treatment facility in Abu Dhabi. The certified, state-of-the-art facility enables the TPI to produce complex metallic assemblies for Boeing, its suppliers, and other aerospace manufacturers worldwide. At the 2015 Dubai Airshow, the TPI and Boeing announced the first award of complex metallic machined parts for Boeing tactical aircraft to be built at the TPI’s new facility. At the 2017 Dubai Airshow, Tawazun Economic Council and Boeing signed an agreement to expand the UAE’s role by enabling advanced materials manufacturing.

6 For Saudi Arabia, Boeing signed an agreement in 2015 with Saudia Aerospace Engineering Industries (SAEI) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to create the Saudi Rotorcraft Support Company (SRSC) in the kingdom. The joint venture opened in April 2017 with facilities in Riyadh and Jeddah. Through in-country cooperation, the partner companies focus on expanding the Saudi workforce through the creation of self-sustaining jobs, technical, and aerospace skills development for local workers, and further involvement of the Saudi aerospace supply base. The joint venture supports the kingdom’s commercial and defence rotorcraft platforms, including the AH-64 Apache, the H-47 Chinook, and the AH-6i. What was the Middle East countries’ reaction towards the Boeing Global Services unit? Buerk: Our customers were excited about the launch of the Boeing Global Services unit in 2017, Boeing’s newest business unit. It comes in the framework of the world’s largest aerospace company’s commitment to significantly invest in aftermarket service capability innovation. Egypt and the Middle East are priority markets for Boeing Global Services. Formed by merging the services’ sectors of Boeing’s Commercial Airplanes and Defence, Space, and Security businesses, the Global Services is designed to provide commercial and governmental customers with unprecedented value, and the best experience in the aerospace services industry. Boeing forecasts that the MENA region’s age of existing military aircraft, and the operating tempo for those platforms, will warrant a $90bn investment in services over the next 10 years. By advancing technologies and systems that support this level of growth, Global Services plans to change the way airplanes and defence systems are operated, upgraded, and maintained throughout the products’ lifecycle. Curlett: Boeing has a strong platform. We have the best engineers who are capable of providing Boeing’s products and services for both the defence and commercial sectors.

Five Middle East States to share sensitive aviation security information
Following their presentation of working paper entitled “Sharing of Aviation Security Information Between States” at the Second High-level Conference on Aviation Security (HLCAS/2-WP/2), Egypt, Jordan, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and United Arab Emirates have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) in this regard. It is a precursor to the subsequent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the topic. The working paper that inspired the LoI discusses the importance of the strengthening cooperation between States regarding the sharing of relevant information in order to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of risk-based aviation security measures. It is closely aligned with one of the key objectives of HLCAS/2, namely to ―encourage States to enter into collaborative arrangements for sharing of security information in order to enhance effectiveness of aviation security measures at the national, regional and global levels within the emerging threat environment‖.

As part of its marketing of the Manchester-Addis Ababa connection, Ethiopian Airlines welcomed select guests to experience what is on offer during the Ethiopian Airlines service Ethiopian has the fastest-growing fleet in Africa, and the carrier took delivery of its 100th aircraft, a Boeing 787-9, on June 5, 2018. The inaugural flight between Addis Ababa and Manchester was undertaken by Boeing 787-9 ET-AUO, which, according to Aviation Week's Fleet Discovery, rolled off the 787 assembly line at Paine Field in Washington on the Sept. 9, 2017; achieved it first flight on Oct. 13, 2017; and was delivered to the airline on Oct. 26, 2017. RwandAir to use Accra hub to feed its direct flights to the US RwandAir will use the West African hub of Accra to feed its direct flights to the US once it gets the final approval from the US's Federal Aviation Agency (FAA). In an interview with Travel Weekly, RwandAir chief executive officer Yvonne Makolo said that the Ghanaian city will facilitate connecting traffic around Africa. ―We are making sure the New York flight is able to connect to the East Africa region. We'll be flying the Kigali-Accra-New York route, so we'll be looking at the West Africa market,‖ Ms Makolo told the publication. The Rwandan national carrier’s model is different from that of its regional competitor Kenya Airways. In October, Kenya Airways launched daily direct nonstop flights from its Nairobi hub to New York’s JFK Airport. Now, facing reduced passenger numbers and the onset of winter in the northern hemisphere, KQ plans to cut its frequency to five times a week effective January 15. 2 We are still working around the June 2019 timeline, but it might be pushed back. It's going to be to New York, depending on which airport we get suitable slots. The FAA finalised the technical review a few weeks ago, so we are waiting for all the other processes to be completed,‖ Ms Makolo said. RwandAir plans to use the Airbus A330Neo on the New York route, a wide body aircraft with full flat beds for the business class, and with a premium economy class. ―We are expecting tourism to be the biggest driver of this route given that it has become our biggest foreign exchange earner. We are also seeing conference tourism becoming an important factor for Rwanda, making the country the top third host after South Africa and Morocco. The leisure and conference tourists and the African diaspora will be the key markets we are looking at,‖ said Ms Makolo. Currently the Kigali-based carrier faces competition both on its regional and international routes from Kenya Airways and Ethiopian Airlines as they operate the same routes. The two latter carriers also now fly to New York, with KQ landing at JFK, and Ethiopian at Newark Airport. South African Airways, Egyptair, Royal Air Maroc and Delta Air Lines also offer scheduled passenger services from Africa to the US. But it is only KQ that has direct nonstop flights to New York, with Ethiopian connecting either through Dublin, Ireland or West Africa on the outbound flight and nonstop on its return flight. Announcing the reduction of frequency this past Thursday, Kenya Airways chief executive officer Sebastian Mikosz said that while the reduction of frequencies was a strategic business decision, the airline remains strongly committed to the New York route and will continue to offer nonstop services. ―As the only airline that offers a nonstop flight between East Africa and the US, this route remains significant to us because of the role it plays in opening more economic and tourism growth opportunities for Kenya and East Africa. ―The decision to adjust our schedule is to cater for seasonality in line with global practices that allows airlines to reduce or add frequencies based on low or high seasons,‖ Mr Mikosz said, adding that they would evaluate the option of reverting to daily flights for the route next summer, just as they've been doing for the Paris and Amsterdam routes.

Qatar Airways to launch flights to Valletta- Malta Qatar Airways announced that it will launch direct services to VallettaMalta, starting 4 June 2019, marking the airline’s first gateway to Malta and the latest addition to its rapidly-expanding European network. British Airways passenger shocked to discover this ingredient in business class dinner Travelling in business class means that you’ll get a special menu of restaurantquality food, often with exotic ingredients. But you’d never expect to end up with this ingredient in your dinner. Passenger Dr Michael Brown noticed that the airline was warning against ―a very small risk of bullet fragments‖ in a dish on a flight from London to Chicago O’Hare Airport, The Sun reported. The menu item in question was the airline’s ―Home Counties venison stew with rosemary dumplings, roasted chestnuts and wilted kale‖. Dr Brown, who lives in North Carolina, told Sun Online Travel: ―I travelled first class from Mumbai to Heathrow, and this item definitely wasn’t on the menu. ―On my second flight from Heathrow to Chicago I noticed this item on the menu. ―I didn’t order it but found this to be very strange.‖ Dr Brown said he spoke to cabin crew about the strange menu inclusion. ―The two flight attendants I spoke with had never seen or noticed this before but got a good laugh out of it,‖ he said. ―One joked with me that this warning could be so all the Americans on board couldn’t sue them. I told him he could well be right.‖ Dr Brown also tweeted the odd addition to the menu. ―Looks like British Airways will go the extra mile to make their American customers feel at home,‖ Twitter user Tony Uddin replied. Jan Steuart said: ―Hey it’s just added iron.‖ A spokesperson for British Airways said: ―These warnings are there as a precaution, and are common practice. We source the best British ingredients for our in-flight menu and this is no exception.‖

But hey, at least Dr Brown was offered a quality meal. Last month, a British Airways premium economy passenger was left furious after he was served just a cereal bar for a meal — on an eight-hour flight costing more than $800. British man Brian Horton was flying from Tampa, Florida to the UK at the time and had paid $1324 for return flights. He had flown out in economy, but returned to the UK in the premium cabin, paying around $867 for that leg of the flight. ―On the way back, which (we) had paid extra for and booked premium seats, we were (in) an old un-refurbished plane with ancient tiny screens,‖ he complained. Mr Horton said that he wasn’t offered an option to pre-book his food. ―An hour before landing after an eight-hour flight we were given an energy bar as our breakfast — I kept the wrapper as a souvenir,‖ he said. ―Our relatives back in the cheaper economy seats got a half frozen cheese bagel. It’s not what you expect from British Airways.‖
