Saudi Arabia initials civil aviation agreement with Somalia Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) signed a memorandum of understanding and initialed a bilateral agreement with the Federal Republic of Somalia. The memorandum of understanding states that air operations between the two countries, "from" and "to" 4 international destinations to be determined at a later time by both parties. The respected carriers on each side have the right to operate 4 regular flights and seven 7 air cargo flights a week, while restricting transport right under the Fifth Freedom Rights for air cargo. The memorandum of understanding also stated the principle of multiple appointments of the national carriers on each side, as well as an agreement on the mode of transport, including code sharing and sudden and additional operation. They also agreed to allow their respective carriers to operate leased aircraft as well as the right to link carriers without having transport rights. Source: Arab News

First Flight with EgyptAir Today I had my first flight with EGYPTAIR, the national airline of Egypt. Although it was just a short hop from Munich (MUC) to Cairo (CAI) with a Boeing 737-800 (SU-GDE) I really enjoyed flight MS 788 during it’s nearly 4 hours. In the past, I’ve flown to Cairo with Lufthansa on Boeing 747 from FRA, Swiss on Airbus 340-300 to ZRH and Privatair on a Boeing 737-800 from/to MUC. Lufthansa decided some month ago to downgrade the destination of Cairo to just smaller aircrafts (Airbus 320/321 typically) with the new continental seats (NEK) – which means sitting four hours in a really uncomfortable and narrow seat – even in Business Class. So I decided to try new Airline: EgyptAir (a member of Star Alliance, too). My seat was 09A, which is the second row in the aircraft and in Business Class (it’s just a two class configuration – which is reasonable for this rout IMHO). There are six rows of Business Class with 2-2 layout and 19 rows in Economy with a 3-3 layout. Business Class seats are comparable with U.S. domestic First Class on most carriers. I like the seat. Plenty of legroom, comfortable seat with personal IFE (20 different movies, 17 audio channels, some games and the air show with flight details).

Boarding was easy and smooth at gate H24. As soon as I sat in my seat I got an Amenity Kit, Headset, a pre-flight drink and the necessary immigration card for Egypt.

Kind and attentive Flight Attendants, btw. Luckily the seat next to me remaind empty. As soon as we reached cruising altitude meal service started. We had a choice of Vegetarian, Chicken or Beef. Yes, that’s three different main courses. Salmon, Salad, Cheese and Bred, too. And a delicious desert. Yummy! EgyptAir serves Pepsi brand soft drinks but that’s fine (well, my personal preference is the Coca Cola brand….). We arrived just a couple of minutes late, no problem. Immigration was easy as always. Will now try to fly with MS on a long-haul route, too. According to the inflight magazin, EgyptAir’s fleet consists of 79 aircrafts serving 78 destinations in 53 countries. Regards, Dieter
