Emirates introduces airport maps on its app making it easier for passengers to pass through terminals The Airport maps can detect the user’s location and provide point to point Navigation

Dubai: Emirates has launched a new feature on its app called Airport maps which will allow customers to navigate seamlessly through the airport. The Airport maps can detect the user’s location )via Bluetooth and wifi) and provide point to point navigation through all touchpoints of the airport including check-in desks, Emirates lounges, shops, restaurants or ATMs in the airport. The Emirates app, supported in 19 languages, currently has 1.5 million active users each month and allows customers to search, book and manage their flights as well as their Emirates Skywards accounts. The new feature maps out Emirates’ hub — Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 3 — and also includes major airports in the Emirates network — London Heathrow, London Gatwick and Hong Kong International airport. Some 90 million passengers transit through Dubai International Airport each year and the wayfinding technology was introduced to provide convenience and a world class customer experience at every touchpoint of the Emirates journey. In the last year, the Emirates app was enhanced with new technology allowing customers to create bespoke playlists of their in-flight entertainment ahead of their travels and sync it to their seats once on board, providing a world-class travel experience. Last year, Emirates introduced 3D seat models, becoming the first airline to introduce web virtual reality (VR) technology on its digital platform. The 3D seat model is a visualisation engine that displays an immersive 3D 360 degree view of the interior of the Emirates A380 and all the Emirates B777 aircraft types.

1 IATA: M’sian airlines still in good standing KUALA LUMPUR: Individual Malaysian airlines are still in good standing, says the International Air Transport Association (IATA), an organisation that represents some 290 airlines comprising 82% of global air traffic. ―We understand that the downgrade is with reference to the regulator, not the airlines, ‖ said Albert Tjoeng, IATA’s Asia-Pacific assistant director for corporate communications in response to a query from The Star on how CAAM’s downgrade affected the industry. ―A number of the Malaysia-registered carriers - Malaysia Airlines, Malindo, AirAsia, AirAsia X - have completed the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), which has over 900 internationally-recognised standards and recommended practices. ―We suggest the Malaysian government look at ways to utilise IOSA to complement their safety oversight, including making IOSA a requirement for an air operator’s certificate (AOC).‖ An AOC is the approval granted by a national aviation authority to an aircraft operator, to allow it to use aircraft for commercial purposes. The certificate requires the operator to have the appropriate personnel, assets and systems in place to ensure the safety of both employees and the public. Separately, Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali said the downgrade would not have a major impact on Malaysia Airlines. ―Currently, there is no significant impact as we are not allowed to get additional slots into the US. The current slots, flights arrangements and destinations are still there, and they are not taken away. ―I don’t think there will be a major impact, ‖ he said when met at the Parliament lobby yesterday. Azmin said that although the listing by the FAA was a serious matter which is being looked into, the issue was more of perception. ―The issue here is about perception, because the concerns of the US authorities are against the airline.

‫االدارة العامة للعالقات العامة والمراسم‬ ‫الشركة القابضة لمصر للطيران‬

2 ―We need to correct this perception that this is about the regulators who need to address the issues raised by the authorities (FAA), ‖ he said when asked to comment if the FAA listing would have an impact on Malaysia Airlines. However, an industry source said airlines in Malaysia may be impacted should other International Civil Aviation Organisation member states, other than the United States, choose to put extra scrutiny on their operations. ―They can’t add additional routes, while code sharing with other airlines is now in jeopardy. The most affected destinations will be those to the US. ―We are very unlikely to be able to obtain new landing rights. While existing landings have no added cost impact, at least immediately, but they may face a more cumbersome administration process. ―Moving forward, AirAsia, AirAsia X and MAS will have more expensive insurance cost as well as higher leasing costs from banks, ‖ said the source.

1 The three biggest tech-led trends for airlines right now Two weeks ago in Bangkok, IATA’s 2019 Airline Industry Retailing Symposium conference was packed with incredible speakers and breakthrough presentations coming from 12 airlines, 12 suppliers/aggregators and a whole cohort of experts and disruptors. Too often in the industry, travel retailing is narrowly associated with digital and leisure. Thankfully, IATA’s retailing conference took a much broader view of retailing, encompassing an omni-channel distribution approach, covering both leisure and corporate travel and involving all distribution and IT partners. The conference included a number of surprising reveals and tangible demos. For those who missed it, I’ve compiled my list of the three biggest insights of the event. NDC target volume is on track The 21 IATA NDC leaderboard airlines have committed to processing 20% of their indirect sales through an NDC-powered API by 2020, aka the 202020 objective. This ambitious and lofty goal is no small feat, but it looks like all are well on track to reach it. At the conference, the Lufthansa Group stated that ―NDC volumes for Swiss [Air Lines] are today over 20%,‖ while IATA revealed that the interim target of 8% was not only reached, but exceeded. In September 2019, 9% of all indirect consolidated leaderboard bookings were NDC-powered. Better yet, the key hurdles to this adoption are consistently being lifted. So far, there were three major barriers to NDC adoption: servicing, interlining and the ability to scale. As of September, 60 travel companies (airlines, IT providers and aggregators( are now ―Level 4‖ certified )read: addressing full servicing(. Moreover, strong progress is being made on interlining, as showcased by an end-to-end proof of concept featuring Swiss and Edelweiss Air using settlement with Orders. Finally, six airlines have been certified on the demanding NDC@Scale requirements. .

‫االدارة العامة للعالقات العامة والمراسم‬ ‫الشركة القابضة لمصر للطيران‬

2 Complementing NDC, One Order is also getting good traction. United Airlines highlighted that simplification with One Order (de-specializing IT, currently weighed down with legacy tickets, PNRs, EMDs, coupons, SSRs and more( is not only intended to improve travelers’ experience but also to help current and future employees manage standard solutions. Lufthansa added that, based on their proof of concept completed in April with 200 passengers, customer-focus and revenue potential could potentially become the most important business drivers

Acceleration is the name of the game The event featured a number of innovative startups, who marked a stark contrast from traditional global distribution systems through one key metric: delivery time units. The former used days, while at least one player in the latter group tended to use years. This small difference acted as a larger metaphor: New entrants were omni-present and main drivers in disrupting the industry and accelerating change. In the same vein, this year’s aggregator panel included both GDSs and another aggregator: Travelfusion. On the corporate travel side, an airline also noticed this market stimulation with an increasing number of potential providers: the traditional players (GDS/travel management companies/online booking tools), the new entrants (NDC-enabled TMCs such as TripActions or AmTrav) or consumer brands (e.g., Google, Booking.com). The capital available for these players and their interest in entering this market may make the difference in the long run. Perhaps most interesting is the impact that platforms can have. Speakers such as Facebook, Trip.com Group (Ctrip) and Hopper were quick to point out that retailers need to be where customers are, when they need it. Natively user-centric and mobile-driven (or mobile-only), they highlighted the importance of a conversational commerce approach on the entire journey and especially the day of travel. While many airline speakers featured the offer and order creation at shopping time, these native players focused on the end-to-end experience. For example,

3 with 20 billion messages a month, Facebook messaging systems could represent not only as a service channel but also as a companion sales channel. This reach ―platform‖ could co-create more value for airlines – albeit with less control – an area to keep watching. Finally, IATA actively contributed to this acceleration with its ―Accelerate@IATA.‖ IATA has already ran over 14 hackathons and delivered 25 minimum viable products as well as five artificial intelligence proofs of Now, in collaboration with Plug and Play it has launched an accelerator with three batches per year. Without a doubt, IATA remains one of the main drivers pushing this transformation forward.concept.

1 Qantas To Operate Non-Stop London Sydney Test Flight In just two days time, Qantas is set to operate its London to Sydney Project Sunrise test flight. The flight will be the second time that Qantas has attempted the huge feat. Non-stop flights between London and Sydney are currently Qantas’ biggest goal. As part of Project Sunrise, the airline is trying to turn the dream into reality. As part of the preparations to launch the flight, Qantas is hosting a series of extra-long test flights. Two of these are flying from New York to Sydney, while one will fly London to Sydney. This London to Sydney flight will take place on Thursday, becoming the second time that Qantas will operate the flight.

Project Sunrise Project Sunrise sees Qantas attempting to make ultra-long-haul flights from Sydney to London and New York a reality. However, they currently don’t have aircraft suitable for this mission. Both Airbus and Boeing have been invited to propose ideas for a suitable aircraft. In addition to the aircraft, however, Qantas needs to think about the passengers and crew onboard the aircraft. The Project Sunrise flights are designed specifically to test this. As the Boeing 787 is not able to fly from London to Sydney with a full load, the passenger numbers will be limited.

‫االدارة العامة للعالقات العامة والمراسم‬ ‫الشركة القابضة لمصر للطيران‬

2

This means that only around 40 people can be onboard the flight. This will include invited media, in addition to researchers investigating the effects of ultra-long-haul flights on the human body. The flight will be operated by the airline’s new Boeing 787 wearing the centenary livery. Not the first time This will not be the first time that Qantas has attempted to fly non-stop between London and Sydney. The airline previously operated the flight nonstop in 1989. The flight was operated by a Boeing 747-400 being delivered from the Boeing factory in Seattle. This is much the same as Thursday’s flight which will fly from Seatle to London, before being delivered to Qantas in Sydney. That flight lasted 20-hours and 9-minutes. However, Qantas had calculated flight time as being between 19-hours and 23-minutes and 19-hours and 54minutes. The Boeing 747 was loaded to the brim with a special extra-dense fuel and was yet to have its cabin fitted. However, this week’s flight will be on a ready to go Boeing 787. The aircraft due to be used for the flight is VH-ZNJ. The aircraft flew from Seatle to Los Angeles on the 7th of November. As Qantas has a maintenance base in Los Angeles, the aircraft could be going through entry into service checks. It will ‫والمراسم‬ ‫للعالقات العامة‬ ‫العامة‬ ‫االدارة‬ then likely be flown to London tomorrow ‫للطيران‬today ‫لمصر‬or ‫القابضة‬ ‫ الشركة‬prior to the big flight on Thursday.

1 Qantas Cuts Sydney To Beijing Flights For The 3rd Time Qantas is cutting its flights between Sydney and Beijing for the third time. The airline flies an A330-200 between the two cities five days a week but said yesterday that this service would cease in March 2020. Qantas attributes the decision to decreased business demand and increased competition on the route.

Since early 2017, Qantas has operated QF107 up to Beijing during the day before returning as QF108 through the night, touching down in Sydney after lunch the following day. This was initially a daily service but in a sign that all was not well, dropped back to five days a week in April 2018. Eighteen months later, Qantas has decided to exit the route for the third time in 31 years. Qantas International boss Tino La Spina said in a statement; Weak business demand and increased competition Qantas noted demand for business class travel on the route has been weakening. Further, Chinese carriers have been laying on extra capacity on the route. Air China and China Eastern fly between Sydney and Beijing and they’ve ramped up capacity by 20% since the re-introduction of the Qantas flights to Beijing in early 2017. Qantas anticipates further capacity increases in 2020. China has proved problematic for many non Chinese carriers over the years. Notwithstanding a big population, an expanding middle class and a booming aviation market, airlines like Qantas have had difficulty picking up a piece of the action. In 2016, Qantas CEO Alan Joyce spoke of the tremendous potential in China.

2 Aviation analyst Neil Hansford told the Sydney Morning Herald that the Chinese carriers were dumping seats. Because the airlines are state backed they can ramp up capacity on routes without reference to the bottom line. In addition they had the outbound Chinese tourist market sewn up. Qantas, accountable to its shareholders, needs to make money on its routes. Success in Beijing is alluding it. Qantas has tried to make Beijing work three times Qantas first launched services into Beijing in 1984. It was a very different era to today (Sydney – Melbourne – Singapore – Bombay – Frankfurt – Manchester anyone?). A timetable from the mid 1980s has Qantas running QF171/172 between Melbourne – Sydney – Beijing once a week using a Boeing 747. This service lasted until 1987. The airline had a second crack at Beijing between 2006 and 2009. When this service started, Qantas went back in with three services a week using A330300 aircraft. John Borghetti, then Qantas Executive General Manager cited the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the growing trade relationship between Australia and China, increasing demand for travel between the two countries and the large number of Chinese students studying in Australia as drivers behind the decision to fly to Beijing again. The second attempt to crack Beijing came to an end in early 2009 amidst a deteriorating global economic situation when Qantas slashed a number of its services to China and abandoned India. At the time, Qantas CEO, Alan Joyce said;

―Airlines around the world are confronting significantly changed operating conditions and have to ensure capacity is best matched to demand. ―The Qantas group is performing well in this difficult environment, but we are not immune from the need to address underperforming routes.‖

South Korea grounds 13 737NGs with 'pickle fork' cracks South Korea is the latest country to ground a number of Boeing 737NG found to have structural cracks, following worldwide inspections of the popular narrowbody. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) inspected 100 737NGs and found that 13 contain cracks. Nine of these were identified in a first round of inspection in October and had clocked more than 30,000 flight cycles. Four more were discovered with cracks, after a second round of inspections was completed on 10 November. These aircraft recorded between 20,000 to 30,000 flight cycles, says MOLIT. Upon discovering the cracks, MOLIT notified Boeing, which then sent a team to South Korea on 31 October to commence repair work. The affected aircraft will all be repaired by January 2020, and each aircraft takes about two weeks, the ministry adds. MOLIT did not specify which airlines operated the affected 737NG aircraft. Cirium fleets data indicates that South Korean carriers operate 153 737NGs, the bulk of them 737800s. At the heart of the inspections is a piece of hardware known as a "pickle fork", which connects the wing to the aircraft fuselage. Cracking of the hardware could result in structural failure, which affects the structure integrity of the aircraft and results in loss of control. Regulators had urged airlines operating 737NGs with more than 30,000 flight cycles to inspect their aircraft immediately for cracks. Aircraft that have logged 22,600-30,000 cycles should be inspected within the next 1,000 cycles. South Korea’s MOLIT has also put in place further measures in response to the latest spate of cracking incidents. For instance, carriers taking delivery of new 737NGs must check for cracks before registering the aircraft in South Korea. 737NGs that have passed inspections this time round will also be ―thoroughly managed‖ by MOLIT’s aviation safety inspector and will be re-inspected within the next 3,500 flight cycles. South Korea joins several other countries in the Asia-Pacific region to ground 737NGs over pickle fork cracks. Australia’s Qantas has grounded three 737-800s found to have cracks, while Indonesia has also grounded three, two of them operated by Sriwijaya Air and the third by Garuda Indonesia. Media reports also state that Lion Air found structural cracks on two 737NGs with less ‫والمراسم‬ ‫للعالقات العامة‬ ‫العامة‬ ‫االدارة‬ than 22,000 flight cycles. The Indonesian low-cost carrier has yet to respond to ‫الشركة القابضة لمصر للطيران‬ FlightGlobal’s request for comment.

Boeing's orders slipped in October as airlines swap 737 Max Boeing's total number of commercial aircraft orders received in 2019 dropped by 11 during October as at least one customer swapped orders for the 737 Max to the 787. The company's net orders for the year slipped from 56 to 45 in the month, with Boeing logging 10 new aircraft orders but removing 21 orders from its books. During October, the Chicago-based airframer delivered 20 commercial aircraft, down from 25 in September Boeing's October order and delivery figures come as it continues working toward re-certification of 737 Max, which has been grounded since March. Following the grounding, Boeing halted 737 Max deliveries, while orders for new aircraft have slowed. The 10 aircraft orders Boeing logged in October included five 787-9s for lessor Air Lease, two 777Fs for Lufthansa Cargo and orders by unidentified customers for two 787-9s and a single 737 Max. The Max order actually represents a delivery position swap between two customers, not an additional order, Boeing says. Boeing moved 21 aircraft orders off its books in October, including 15 737 Max orders that lessor Air Lease converted to an order for five 787-9s. Air Lease had already announced that swap. On 31 October, Boeing's backlog stood at 5,457 aircraft, including 4,387 737s, 18 747s, 102 767s, 428 777s and 522 787s. The company's 20 aircraft deliveries in October included a single 737NG-based P-8A Poseidon surveillance aircraft to the US Navy, one 747-8F, three 767s, three 777s and 12 787s, Boeing says. By comparison, Boeing delivered 57 aircraft in October 2018, prior to the grounding.

1 Emirates cautious on fifth freedom, hopes for flydubai coop Emirates (EK, Dubai Int'l) will explore options of adding further fifth freedom routes but will not treat this as a strategic priority, Chief Executive Tim Clark told Airline Business in an interview. "Fifth-freedom operations do not drive or underpin our business model. But when we look at the situation geographically, economically, certain things are staring us in the face. So could anything happen after that is anyone's guess," Clark said. According to the ch-aviation schedules module, Emirates' fifth freedom operations currently include daily services from Accra to Abidjan, from Athens Int'l to New York Newark, from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi to Hong Kong Int'l and Phnom Penh, from Denpasar to Auckland Int'l, from Larnaca to Malta Int'l, from Malé to Colombo Int'l, from Milan Malpensa to New York JFK, from Singapore Changi to both Brisbane Int'l and Melbourne Tullamarine, and from Sydney Kingsford Smith to Christchurch. It also operates from Rio de Janeiro Int'l to both Buenos Aires Ezeiza and Santiago de Chile Int'l and from Lusaka to Harare Int'l several times per week. The airline will also launch flights from Barcelona El Prat to México City Int'l on December 9, 2019. Clark underlined that given the downturn in the global economy and fierce competition from regional rivals, such Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, and Oman Air, Emirates has implemented a strict cost regime. "We've been smarter about aligning capacity to the situation, we haven't had large numbers of aircraft being delivered. We have been adapting our network on a prudent and immediate basis. And we've spent a lot of time on our revenue models to ensure that we optimise the revenue per seat kilometre," Clark said. One of the carrier's initiatives is the close cooperation with fellow state-owned airline flydubai (FZ, Dubai Int'l). Although the two airlines remain separately run, they are closely aligned on the operational level, including an extensive code-share agreement between the two. Emirates has thirty-five B777-8s and 115 -9s on firm order from Boeing.

‫االدارة العامة للعالقات العامة والمراسم‬ ‫الشركة القابضة لمصر للطيران‬

2 Clark added that the cooperation with flydubai was one of the means available to alleviate increasingly troublesome capacity constraints at Dubai Int'l. Specifically, flydubai-operated narrowbody operations could be moved to offpeak hours when gates are available. While this might lead to longer connection times for some passengers, Clark is convinced that Emirates will remain more competitive than other airlines. Emirates is also not "unduly concerned" about the delayed entry into service of the B777-9. The carrier was due to be one of the first customers with deliveries commencing in mid-2020. However, the type's entry into service was recently formally deferred to early 2021. "When the 777Xs were due we had a line of retirements planned - we've already got rid of some early B777-300(ER)s and the classics and -300s have gone... So from June of next year right the way through to when we get clarity, we have the ability to stop the replacement/retirement programme. So I'm not unduly concerned," Clark said. Emirates has thirty-five B777-8s and 115 -9s on firm order from Boeing.
