‫بروتوكول تعاون بٌن مصر للطٌران والري لنقل "أسبوع القاهرة‬ ‫للمٌاه"‬

‫مٌسون أبو الحسن ‪ -‬تصوٌر‪ :‬والء غنٌم‬ ‫وقعت وزارة الري ُممثلة فً الدكتور رجب عبدالعظٌم وكٌل الوزارة‪ ،‬بروتوكول تعاون مع‬ ‫شركة مصر للطٌران‪ُ ،‬ممثلة فً الدكتور جمال الجزار رئٌس قطاع السٌاحة‪.‬‬ ‫جاء ذلك خالل فعالٌات مإتمر صحفً لوزارة الري‪ ،‬الٌوم؛ لإلعالن عن توصٌات مإتمر‬ ‫"مصر تستطٌع"‪ ،‬والذي عُقد فً فبراٌر الماضً بمحافظة األقصر‪.‬‬ ‫وٌهدؾ البروتوكول إلى أن تكون شركة مصر للطٌران‪ ،‬هً الناقل الرسمً لـ"أسبوع‬ ‫ا‬ ‫استكماًل لفعالٌات المإتمر‪.‬‬ ‫القاهرة للمٌاه"‪ ،‬والذي سٌكون‬ ‫جاء توقٌع البروتوكول بحضور الدكتور محمد عبدالعاطً وزٌر الري والموارد المائٌة‪،‬‬ ‫السفٌرة نبٌلة مكرم وزٌرة الهجرة وشإون المصرٌ​ٌن بالخارج‪.‬‬

‫تعاون بٌن مصر وغانا فى مجال الطٌران وتوقٌع عقد إلنشاء مركز‬ ‫لصٌانة الطائرات‬ ‫كتب احمد مصطفً‪-‬رحاب نبٌل‬

‫وقعت الٌوم‪ ،‬األربعاء‪ ،‬شركة مصر للطٌران للصٌانة واألعمال الفنٌة إحدى الشركات التابعة‬ ‫للشركة القابضة لمصرللطٌران ووزارة الطٌران المدنى بدولة غانا عقدا إلنشاء مركز لتقدٌم‬ ‫الخدمات الفنٌة لشركات الطٌران العاملة من وإلى مطار كوتوكو الدولى بالعاصمة الغانٌة أكرا‬ ‫وذلك فى إطار توجهات الدولة نحو التوسع فى األسواق االفرٌقٌة‪ ،‬وفى ضوء اهتمام الفرٌق‬ ‫ٌونس المصرى وزٌر الطٌران المدنى بتقدٌم كافة السبل واالمكانات الحدٌثة والمتطورة للنهوض‬ ‫بصناعة النقل الجوى فى القارة اإلفرٌقٌة فى شتى مجاالته‪.‬‬ ‫ٌؤتى هذا التعاون الجدٌد تفعٌال لمذكرات التفاهم الموقعة بٌن الطرفٌن المصرى والؽانى فى دٌسمبر‬ ‫الماضى ضمن سلسلة من اًلتفاقٌات فى مجال النقل الجوى وإنشاء المطارات وتدرٌب وتؤهٌل‬ ‫العنصر البشرى‪.‬‬ ‫شهد على توقٌع العقد الطٌار أحمد عادل‪ ،‬رئٌس مجلس إدارة الشركة القابضة لمصر للطٌران‬ ‫والسٌد ‪Kwaben Darko-Mensah‬نائب وزٌر الطٌران لدولة ؼانا والسٌد ‪Paul Okoh‬سفٌر‬ ‫ؼانا بجمهورٌة مصر العربٌة حٌث قام بتوقٌع العقد من الجانب المصرى المهندس أبو طالب توفٌق‪،‬‬ ‫رئٌس مجلس إدارة شركة مصر للطٌران للصٌانة واألعمال الفنٌة ومن الجانب الؽانى السٌد ‪John‬‬ ‫‪Dekyem Attafuah‬رئٌس شركة المطارات بؽانا وممثل عن سلطة الطٌران المدنى لدولة ؼانا‪.‬‬ ‫وأعرب الطٌار أحمد عادل‪ ،‬رئٌس مجلس إدارة الشركة القابضة لمصر للطٌران‪ ،‬عن تفاإله بإتمام‬ ‫هذا التعاقد مع الجانب الؽانى وأكد قائال‪" :‬أن التعاون مع األشقاء األفارقة وتكثٌؾ العمل لتؽطٌة أكبر‬ ‫عدد من النقاط داخل القارة اإلفرٌقٌة سٌكون مثمراا للؽاٌة فى ظل النهضة التى تشهدها قارة إفرٌقٌا‬ ‫فى مجال الطٌران حٌث تعد من األسواق الواعدة‪ ،‬وتستهدؾ استراتٌجٌة مصر للطٌران الحفاظ على‬ ‫الصدارة وتقدٌم الخبرات الفنٌة واًلستشارٌة للدول الشقٌقة باإلضافة إلى استثمار الحركة الجوٌة‬ ‫المتزاٌدة فى ظل المشروعات التنموٌة التى تشهدها مختلؾ دول القارة"‪.‬‬

‫‪2‬‬ ‫وفى السٌاق ذاته‪ ،‬أشار المهندس أبو طالب توفٌق إلى أهمٌة التعاقد الجدٌد الذى ٌؤتى فى إطار التوسع فى‬ ‫القارة اإلفرٌقٌة واستهداؾ عمالء جدد لشركة مصر للطٌران للصٌانة ضمن استراتٌجٌة الشركة حٌث‬ ‫نجحت الشركة فى استقطاب ‪ 15‬عمٌال جدٌدا من شركات الطٌران خالل العام المالى ‪2017/2018‬‬ ‫بهدؾ زٌادة األرباح والتوسع فى النطاق الجؽرافى للوصول لعدد أكبر من شركات الطٌران العاملة‬ ‫بإفرٌقٌا والشرق األوسط‪ .‬وأكد على أن المحطة الجدٌدة تهدؾ إلى تقدٌم خدمات الدعم الفنى لشركات‬ ‫الطٌران بمطار كوتوكو الدولى بما ٌخدم أهداؾ الشركة وٌساهم فى خدمة خطط الجانب الؽانى للتطوٌر‪.‬‬ ‫من جانبه أوضح السٌد ‪Kwaben Darko-Mensah‬نائب وزٌر الطٌران لدولة ؼانا أن إنشاء‬ ‫محطة جدٌدة لتقدٌم الخدمة الفنٌة للطائرات ٌعد خطوة إٌجابٌة تمنح الجانب الؽانى مٌزة جدٌدة لطائرات‬ ‫الشركات التى تهبط بمطار كوتوكو وٌساعد أٌضا فى زٌادة حركة الطٌران ودعم اًلستراتٌجٌات الخاصة‬ ‫بتطوٌر منظومة الطٌران المدنى لدولة ؼانا وتؤسٌس نقطة محورٌة بؽرب إفرٌقٌا‪.‬‬ ‫وخالل زٌارته الحالٌة لمصر‪ ،‬قام الوفد الؽانى بجولة مٌدانٌة بمنشآت ومواقع شركة مصر للطٌران‬ ‫للصٌانة واألعمال الفنٌة شملت مجمع ورش عمرة المحركات‪ ،‬الذى ٌعد أكبر وأحدث مجمع من نوعه‬ ‫بالشرق األوسط وافرٌقٌا باإلضافة إلى جولة بهناجر الشركة‪ّ ،‬‬ ‫اطلع خالها على خطوات صٌانة وعمرة‬ ‫الطائرات بالهناجر والورش المساعدة‪ ،‬كما تفقد الوفد مركز السٌطرة الفنٌة المسئول عن متابعة الحالة‬ ‫الفنٌة ألسطول مصر للطٌران وتقدٌم الخدمات الفنٌة للطائرات على مدار ‪ 24‬ساعة‪.‬‬ ‫وفى إطار تعزٌز سبل التعاون بٌن الجانب المصرى والؽانى فى مجال إنشاء وتطوٌر المطارات قام‬ ‫أمس ‪Kwaben Darko‬والوفد المرافق له بجولة داخل مطار العاصمة الدولى الجدٌد بالقطامٌة‬ ‫للتعرؾ على أسس وآلٌات تصمٌم المطارات الحدٌثة واًلطالع على امكانٌات المطار والذى تم إنشاإه‬ ‫وفقا ألعلى المواصفات العالمٌة وباًلعتماد على خـبـرات مصرٌة خالصة ‪ ،‬رافقه خالل الزٌارة المهندس‬ ‫محمد سعٌد محروس مستشار وزٌر الطٌران المدنى لشئون المطارات‪.‬‬ ‫وخالل الجولة استمع ‪Kwaben Dark‬نائب وزٌرة الطٌران المدنى الؽانى لشرحا ا تفصٌلٌا ا عن‬ ‫امكانٌات ومنشآت المطار والتى تضم منطقة حقل الطٌران والمجهز ًلستقبال الطائرات ذات الطرازات‬ ‫الكبٌرة والمنطقة اإلدارٌة و تتكون من ‪ 45‬مبنى إدارٌا‪.‬‬ ‫كما اطلع الوفد الؽانى على تجهٌزات المطار والنظم اًللكترونٌة الحدٌثة وآلٌات التشؽٌل وأنظمة‬ ‫المالحة الجوٌة وكذا الطاقة اًلستٌعابٌة لصاًلت السفر والوصول ‪ ،‬وأعرب نائب وزٌرة الطٌران الؽانى‬ ‫والوفد المرافق له عن سعادته بما شهده من امكانٌات وتجهٌزات المطار الذى صمم وفقا ا ألعلى المعاٌ​ٌر‬ ‫والمقاٌ​ٌس الدولٌة كما أشادوا بمستوى المرافق والخدمات بالمطار والتى ستوفر أعلى درجات الراحة‬ ‫والرفاهٌة للمسافرٌن معربٌن عن تطلع بالدهم لمزٌد من التعاون و تعزٌز العالقات الثنائٌة بٌن مصر‬ ‫وؼانا فى مجاًلت الطٌران المدنى المتعددة واًلستفادة من الخبرة المصرٌة لدعم القدرات الفنٌة لدولة‬ ‫ؼانا فى هذا المجال‪.‬‬

‫األسواق الحرة لمصر للطٌران تقدم تخفٌضا ‪ %50‬بمناسبة عٌد‬ ‫األضحً‬

‫كتب احمد مصطفً‪-‬رحاب نبٌل‬ ‫أعلنت شركة مصر للطٌران لألسواق الحرة‪ ،‬عن مجموعة من التخفٌضات والعروض‬ ‫الخاصة على بعض المنتجات احتفاال بعٌد األضحً‪.‬‬ ‫وأوضحت الشركة أن التخفٌضات تصل إلى ‪ %50‬على بعض أنواع المنتجات ‪.‬‬ ‫وتقوم "مصر للطٌران" من خالل معارضها بكافة صاًلت السفر والوصول بمطار القاهرة‪،‬‬ ‫والمطارات المصرٌة بتقدٌم عروض على مدار العام‪ ،‬خاصة فً المناسبات اًلجتماعٌة‪،‬‬ ‫والتى تلقى إقباًل كبٌرا من كافة العمالء نظرا للعروض الممٌزة على عروض الشراء‬ ‫المقدمة‪.‬‬

‫رئٌس بعثة الحج‪ :‬مواعٌد رحالت «مصر للطٌران» أفضل من‬ ‫األعوام الماضٌة‬ ‫حنان عز الدٌن‬ ‫قال المستشار عمر مروان‪ ،‬وزٌر شؤون مجلس النواب‪ ،‬ورئٌس بعثة الحج الرسمٌة لهذا‬ ‫العام‪ ،‬إنه تم انتهاء تفوٌج الحجاج على رحالت الشركة الوطنٌة "مصر للطٌران"‪ ،‬الٌوم‬ ‫األربعاء‪ ،‬موج ًها التحٌة إلى الشركة‪ ،‬على ما قدمته من تٌسٌرات كبٌرة للحجاج‪.‬‬ ‫أضاؾ‪ ،‬خالل المإتمر الصحفى الذى عقده الٌوم األربعاء‪ ،‬فى مطار القاهرة الدولى‪ ،‬أن‬ ‫رحالت الشركة هذا العام أفضل من أى عام مضى‪ ،‬حٌث تم تقلٌص زمن اًلنتظار بٌن‬ ‫الرحالت إلى ‪ 4‬ساعات‪ ،‬وكان ٌصل من ‪ 6‬إلى ‪ 8‬ساعات فى السنوات الماضٌة‪ً ،‬لف اتا إلى أن‬ ‫بشكل كبٌر‪.‬‬ ‫مواعٌد اإلقالع والهبوط منتظمة‬ ‫ٍ‬

‫السفٌر السعودي لمصراوي‪ :‬سأودع أسر الشهداء المسافرٌن‬ ‫للحج من المطار‪ ..‬الٌوم‬ ‫كتب‪ -‬عمر مصطفى‪:‬‬ ‫قال السفٌر أسامة نقلى‪ ،‬سفٌر المملكة العربٌة السعودٌة لدى مصر‪ ،‬إنه سٌتوجه صباح‬ ‫الٌوم الخمٌس إلى مطار القاهرة الدولى‪ ،‬لتودٌع أسر شهداء الجٌش والشرطة قبل سفرهم‬ ‫إلى المملكة ألداؤ مناسك الحج‪.‬‬ ‫وأضاؾ نقلً فً تصرٌح خاص لمصراوي‪ ،‬أنه سوؾ ٌكون فً المطار الساعة الخامسة‬ ‫مساء الٌوم‪.‬‬ ‫كان الملك سلمان بن عبد العزٌز خادم الحرمٌن الشرٌفٌن‪ ،‬أمر باستضافة ألؾ حاج من أسر‬ ‫شهداء الجٌش والشرطة فً مصر‪ ،‬وذلك ضمن برنامج ضٌوؾ خادم الحرمٌن الشرٌفٌن‬ ‫للحج والعمرة‪ ،‬بحسب وكالة األنباء السعودٌة (واس)‪.‬‬ ‫وقال وزٌر الشإون اإلسالمٌة والدعوة واإلرشاد المشرؾ العام على البرنامج‪ ،‬الشٌخ‬ ‫الدكتور عبداللطٌؾ بن عبدالعزٌز آل الشٌخ‪ ،‬إن هذا الموقؾ ٌإكد حرص خادم الحرمٌن‬ ‫المستمر على التواصل مع المسلمٌن فً مختلؾ أرجاء المعمورة‪ ،‬مشٌراا إلى أن برنامج‬ ‫اًلستضافة هو أحد الوسائل المهمة فً تحقٌق هذا التواصل النوعً‪.‬‬

‫السعودٌة تعلق رحالت الحجاج القادمة إلى مطار الملك عبد العزٌز‬ ‫بجدة‬ ‫أعلن رئٌس هٌئة الطٌران المدنً السعودي‪ ،‬عبد الحكٌم بن محمد التمٌمً‪ ،‬عن إٌقاف‬ ‫جمٌع رحالت الحجاج القادمة إلى مطار الملك عبد العزٌز بجدة اعتبارا من مساء غد‬ ‫الخمٌس‪.‬‬ ‫وأوضح التمٌمً‪ ،‬فً لقاء مباشر مع "القناة السعودٌة" فً المطار‪ ،‬الٌوم األربعاء‪ ،‬أن‬ ‫السلطات قررت وقؾ رحالت الحجاج عدا الرحالت المستثناة للظروؾ الطارئة‪ ،‬مشٌرا إلى‬ ‫أن جمٌع صاًلت الحج ستستخدم للمؽادرة بدًل من القدوم‪.‬‬ ‫وأشار رئٌس هٌئة الطٌران المدنً السعودي إلى أن مطار الطائؾ سٌكون مساندا لمطار‬ ‫الملك عبد العزٌز بجدة‪ ،‬إضافة إلى مطار ٌنبع حٌث سٌكون له دور فً استقبال الحجاج‬ ‫وٌساند مطار األمٌر محمد بن عبد العزٌز بالمدٌنة المنورة‪.‬‬ ‫وأضاؾ التمٌمً أنه ٌوجد بالمملكة ‪ 27‬مطارا وهناك مطارات جدٌدة سٌتم إنشاإها‪ ،‬وأن‬ ‫الجهات الحكومٌة فً المطارات تعتبر شركاء للطٌران المدنً لتحسٌن أداء تلك المطارات‪.‬‬ ‫وبٌن أن مساحة صاًلت الحج بمطار الملك عبد العزٌز بجدة تبلػ ‪ 5010‬كم وتحتوي على‬ ‫‪ 26‬موقفا للطائرات‪ً ،‬لفتا إلى أن الهٌئة لدٌها عناصر نسائٌة فً أقسام المالحة الجوٌة‬ ‫والسالمة واألمن بمطار جدة‪.‬‬ ‫وكشؾ المسإول السعودي عن أنه تم الٌوم استقبال أكثر من ‪ 784‬ألؾ مسافر عن طرٌق‬ ‫مطار الملك عبد العزٌز و‪ 654‬مسافرا من مطار األمٌر محمد بن عبد العزبز بالمدٌنة‬ ‫المنورة‪.‬‬

African press review 16 August 2018 Nigeria has denied claims that Ethiopian Airlines is among the frontrunners to set up and manage Nigeria's new national carrier.

Minister of State for Aviation Hadi Sirika said it was ―preposterous and misleading‖ for the Ethiopian Airlines chief executive Tewolde Gebremariam to make such a claim, the Nigerian Guardian reports.

Last Friday Tewolde said that the Ethiopian flag carrier was among a small group with an interest in setting up the Nigerian national carrier. He added that while "we do not know the results" of the tender, "we are frontrunners."

Sirika said negotiations are still ongoing with several potential partners and investors, including financial institutions, airlines and equipment manufacturers.

"There are no favourites or frontrunners in the race to manage Nigeria Air,‖ he said on Tuesday.

Mine cuts worry ANC In the wake of the latest announcment of job cuts in the South African mining sector, the Johannesburg-based financial paper BusinessDay reports that the ruling African National Congress has called for an urgent meeting with its coalition partners, the Communist Party and the trade union confederation, Cosatu.

Sudan opposition bashes Bashir for third-term bid The opposition in Sudan has condemned efforts by President Omar al-Bashir to seek a third term in office.

According to the Sudan Tribune, Sadiq al-Mahdi, chairman of the National Umma Party (NUP), said Sudan has suffered under Bashir’s presidency.

Last week the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) unanimously amended its constitution to allow Bashir to stand as its flagbearer in the 2020 elections.

The amendment paves the way for the NCP to change the Sudanese Constitution which currently restricts a president to a maximum of two five-year terms.

Al-Mahdi said Bashir’s indictment on war crimes charges by the International Criminal Court had impoverished Khartoum’s international relationships, especially with the United States.

3 Kiir tells state governors to share for peace South Sudanese President Salva Kiir yesterday told the country's 32 state governors to be prepared for the implementation of the peace agreement adding that his government will lose 14 positions of state governors under the terms of the power-sharing deal In accordance with the agreement signed earlier this month in Khartoum, the government of Kiir will retain control of 55 percent of the 32 states, Riek Machar's SPLM-IO will get 27 percent, 10 percent of state governorships will go to the South Sudan Opposition Alliance and the remaining eight percent to the other political parties.

The deal further provides that these same percentages will be applied at local government level.

Nigeria's "government of recklessness" In Nigeria the governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, says that Nigerians, especially the young, must rise and save the country from what Fayose yesterday called "the government of recklessness" of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Condemning the recent arrest and detention of a journalist as a continuation of the government’s suppression of press freedom, Fayose vowed to remain resolute in his defence of the common people of Nigeria against tyranny.

Fayose claims that all agencies of the Federal Government, especially the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and the security agencies, have been turned into tools of the ruling party.

Emirates SkyCargo operates vaccine charter to Brazil Emirates SkyCargo has transported over 25 tonnes of vaccines from Milan to BH airport, Bello Horizonte in Brazil on its Boeing 777 freighter aircraft. This is the largest shipment of vaccines that the air cargo carrier has transported on a single flight and it is also the first time that BH Airport has received such a large shipment of vaccines.

Given the extreme sensitivity of the vaccines to temperature fluctuations, the entire shipment, equivalent to about 1.8 million doses, had to be transported in specialised containers to maintain a constant temperature of 5 degrees C. A total of 36 Envirotainer containers - 35 RAP e2 and 1 RKNe1 containers - were loaded on the freighter at Milan, one of the designated airports in Emirates SkyCargo’s pharma corridor programme, which aims to provide supplementary protection for pharma product integrity during air transport.

On arrival at BH Airport, the vaccines were removed from the containers and transported to the temperature controlled storage areas of the airport. "

Air Canada exec reportedly on board as Air France CEO would face labour headwinds Two French airline unions blasted Air France-KLM this week after reports the Franco-Dutch carrier will name an Air Canada executive as its new CEO. Several French news outlets have reported Air Canada chief operating officer Ben Smith is poised to be placed in the pilot's seat at a board meeting Thursday.

Smith, who has acted as chief negotiator during labour talks for Air Canada's low-cost Rouge unit, would replace former Air FranceKLM CEO Jean-Marc Janaillac, who quit more than three months ago when staff turned down his offer of a pay deal aimed at halting a wave of strikes.

Philippe Evain, head of Air France's main pilot union, accused the board in a tweet Tuesday of poor decision-making and handing over the keys to the company to a North American executive.

A union representing Air France ground staff questioned Smith's potential pay package, which the French newspaper Liberation reported will hit 3.3 million euros a year.

The criticism comes amidst growing labour turmoil on the tarmac in Europe, as pilots at Air France, Brussels Airlines and Ryanair have all staged work stoppages in recent months.

A spokesperson for Air France-KLM declined to confirm reports of a new CEO and said the appointment process was ongoing.

Pee on the seat: The biggest PR disasters for airlines Are airline disasters increasing? Not so much the kind that result in deaths and general mess – which are going the other way even as passenger numbers head for the stratosphere – but public relations disasters.

Barely a week goes by that some airline is not in the dock for hauling a bloodied and protesting passenger off a flight or murdering their pet.

Latest airline snafu is the story of a woman and her four-year-old child detained in Dubai because, according to some reports, she drank a glass of wine offered to her during the meal service on her Emirates flight from London.

Not so, according to a statement issued by the Attorney-General of Dubai.

In their version, the woman tried to enter Dubai on an expired Swedish passport, then an Iranian passport, which would get her only a short-term visa. That would mean rescheduling her flight out of Dubai.

Profanities were said and things took an ugly turn when she produced a not-so-smartphone and started snapping photos of the immigration officer, which is why she ended up in the slammer.

Based on information attributed to human rights group Detained in Dubai, media outlets then spun the story to suggest she'd been arrested because she drank a glass of wine that was offered as part of Emirates' inflight service.

3 Ever since April 2017, when Dr David Dao was forcibly removed from his seat on a United Airlines flight to make way for a UA crew member, bloodied and bruised with a broken nose and teeth shattered by overzealous security officers in what the airline's chief executive described as a "passenger re-accommodation" incident, airlines have been guilty of a series of spectacular corporate face plants.

Peed Off When he boarded his British Airways flight from London to South Africa, Andrew Wilkinson noticed a wet patch on his seat.

Assuming it was water, he wasn't too concerned, but when he moved closer and took a sniff, his worst fears were confirmed – the last passenger had peed on the seat. BA flight crew gave Wilkinson some wipes and told him to clean it up himself.

4 Relocating to another seat was not possible in the fully loaded economy cabin. Couldn't they upgrade him or another passenger to business? Not happening, was the response.

Wilkinson spent the entire 11-hour flight sitting on a blanket that, according to one report, gradually absorbed more of the wee as the 11-hour flight wore on, until Wilkinson's jeans were moist. BA's response? Wilkinson's frequent flyer account was credited with 5000 frequent flyer points.

United in the doghouse On a United Airlines flight from Texas to New York in March 2018, a flight attendant ordered a puppy be placed in an overhead compartment, even though the 10-month-old French bulldog was in a TSA-compliant pet carrier that fits under the seat.

The owner, who was travelling with her young daughter and an infant, reluctantly complied. But when the overhead bin was opened at the end of the three-hour flight, Kokita was no more.

Stress, heat, lack of oxygen, and separation from his carers had delivered a fatal cocktail. The owner was distraught.

According to a passenger who assisted, "The flight attendant was very frazzled afterwards. I couldn't make sense of it. She said she didn't know there was a dog, but it was insanely clear, and I heard the passenger tell her that her dog was in the carrier."

United tried to use the flight attendant's "I-didn't-know" in a classic butt-cover exercise, but really? Fairly obvious what a TSA pet carrier is for. And several passengers corroborated evidence that the dog could be heard barking. Big mea culpa from United and promise not to bin pets in future.

5 Blanket ban Passing through the first-class cabin en route to their seats on an American Airlines flight on Christmas Eve 2017, two professional basketball players were handed blankets by passengers – and then confronted by a flight attendant who accused them of theft.

Argument followed, the FA said the flight would not depart, and the two were booted off the plane.

Although the flight was operated by regional carrier Envoy Air, American Airlines subsequently ate humble pie and flew them both first class to their destination, although the players missed their team's Christmas dinner.

Medical mistake In late July 2017 a family was removed from an Emirates flight from Dubai to Lyon. The reason? The family's 17-year-son suffers from epilepsy and autism.

The family had already flown from New Zealand to Dubai with Emirates, their son had medical clearance to fly, yet Emirates staff wouldn't listen, even after his mother called her doctor and had his medical certificate emailed.

The family was dumped unceremoniously at the airport terminal. After the story went viral on Twitter – the mother is a journalist for Euronews – the airline went into rapid backdown. The family was able to continue their journey the next day, but without a direct flight to Lyon they had to fly to Geneva instead and rent a car to complete their journey.

6 The source of so many airline fails is the US, but let's give this some perspective.

US Airlines carried 740 million passengers aboard domestic flights in 2017. No wonder that crew sometimes get it wrong, and given the vagaries of human conduct and the world we live in, who can blame them?

So here's a big shout out to all those cabin crew in particular who face obnoxious, drunk, disorderly and difficult passengers daily, who manage the situation with competence and dignity, who pour oil on troubled waters and make sure that everyone gets to where they're supposed to be, without ever making the headlines.
