http://leadercall.com/ British Airways flight bound for Chicago makes emergency landing The pilot of a British Airways jet bound for Chicago is being hailed as a hero after the plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Heathrow Airport. Passengers took to Twitter to praise the pilot and revealed the technical problems were the result of two sets of landing wheels breaking at 33,000ft. He tweeted: " Just landed back in #Heathrow after #BA 295 to #Chicago diverted back after 2 hours 4 "technical reasons" on runway met by fire engines". The plane was held at 9,000 ft and dumped fuel before landing on three sets of wheels, instead of five, at around 5.30pm. The plane was met by fire engines and the experience described as "quite scary" by one passenger. Passengers had to exit the plane at the rear first, or the plane could have tipped. A spokesman for Heathrow said a runway was closed for almost an hour, which has caused disruption to some flights, Mail Online reports. The aircraft positioned for a 15nm final to Heathrow's runway 27R and landed safely on nose and body gear only and stopped on the runway about 20 minutes after reporting the unsafe gear. Another passenger Martin Robinson told the Daily Star: "I think the pilot nailed it. Everyone was calm". We are sorry that this has caused some disruption to flights. "After a short delay, while our engineers finished their checks, we moved the aircraft from the runway and will begin transferring customers to a replacement aircraft". Emergency services were on stand by. Muriel Gray tweeted: "The hugest kisses and hugs to the British Airways pilot who just landed the plane my husband was on when the landing gear failed". The passengers were put on another plane which left London in the evening, according to a statement from the airline. Better than other flights I've been on'.

http://allafrica.com/ Nigeria: Inside Story of TSA Implementation Simon Ech — Implementation of The Treasury Single Account by the federal government is currently creating hiccups among some of its ministries and agencies. However, as President Muhammadu Buhari's government said there is no going back on the new system, some MDAs are coming up with initiatives to enable them cope. Almost four months since the full commencement by the President Muhammadu Buhari's administration of the Treasury Single Account (TSA), stories are unfolding at the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). While working on the implementation of the TSA, following the presidential directive, the Accountant General of Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris, assured that the policy will boost revenue collection, block leakages and ensure transparency and timely disbursement of funds to beneficiaries. He said it would also pave way for the timely capture and payment of all revenues into appropriate accounts of government. However, while some of the promises the AGF made of blocking leakages are succeeding, releasing money to run government activities is becoming difficult and most MDAs have had to reorganize their accounting processes to comply with the presidential directive. Our investigations revealed that some activities are suffering at some MDAs over the teething problems of the TSA in checking financial leakages, though others have moved on with various initiatives to help them implement the policy; with others grounded with no activities beside payment of salaries and allowances. And some heads of parastatals already getting red alert over failure to comply with the new process. Some staff of MDAs told Daily Trust in confidence that the TSA delayed release of funds needed to carry out their responsibilities. A staff of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment disclosed that the TSA has affected the activities of the ministry. "The name of this ministry now is 'no money'. Everything you apply for, they will say no money," the source told Daily Trust. The situation was not different at the National Pension Commission(PenCom) where Daily Trust's investigation showed that the TSA is being blamed by some staff for delays in release of funds. A staff disclosed that there have been delays in release of funds to settle bills for even stationeries needed to run the commission. He told Daily Trust that but for funds generated through registrations, the TSA would have been a major hindrance to last World Pension Summit-hosted by the commission as there were delays in release of funds needed for the event. He however said that the situation was improving daily as the accounts department seemed to be finding a way around the problem.

http://www.finchannel.com/ Etihad Airways: Abu Dhabi - Cairo flight frequency The FINANCIAL -- Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, on February 1 announced an increase in capacity between Abu Dhabi and Cairo with the introduction of a fourth daily scheduled flight, effective 27 March 2016. The route has grown to become one of the most popular in Etihad Airways’ network, building on strong commercial ties between the capital cities of the UAE and Egypt. With a large Egyptian population in the UAE, more flights provide greater options for expatriates travelling back home for work or holiday, according to Etihad Airways. Etihad Airways’ services are conveniently timed to offer enhanced travel options for business and leisure travellers between the UAE and Egypt with greater choice of flights across the day. Additionally, passengers travelling between Egypt and the GCC, South and North East Asia, and India will benefit from increased and better connecting options over the airline’s Abu Dhabi hub. To India, Etihad Airways and its strategic equity partner Jet Airways offer more than 250 weekly flights across 15 destinations. Over two million guests have flown on the Cairo route since its launch in 2004, becoming a key market among the 116 global destinations served by Etihad Airways. Kevin Knight, Etihad Airways’ Chief Strategy and Planning Officer, said: “Etihad Airways is focused on offering guests more choice. The introduction of a fourth daily flight to Cairo demonstrates our commitment to a market that has shown strong growth in passenger and freight traffic since the route was launched almost 12 years ago. “Attracting both commercial and leisure business, the additional flights linking Cairo and Abu Dhabi with connections beyond will help cater for the growing demand on one of our most popular North African and global routes.”

http://allafrica.com/ South Africa: Treasury On Closure of SAA Operations Between Johannesburg and Abu Dhabi The Minister of Finance has granted approval for South African Airways (SAA) to cease operating the route between Johannesburg and Abu Dhabi. SAA commenced the route in March 2015 but it has not performed as expected. SAA's interventions to improve the financial performance on this route had unfortunately not yielded the desired results, warranting that decisive action be taken to mitigate the negative impact on the airline. SAA operated the route in codeshare with Etihad Airways. Etihad will still be flying between Johannesburg and Abu Dhabi, and offering South African Airways passengers the opportunity to connect to a range of destinations in China, India and Asia as well as in Europe and the Middle East. The National Treasury and the Department of Tourism are certain that the decision will not impact tourism and connectivity. The National Treasury worked closely with the Department of Tourism to weigh the costs and benefits of closing the route and agreed that the closure was in the best interest of both South Africa and SAA.
