Egypt: Official - Egyptair to Resume Cargo Transportation On Flights to Canada
Preparations are underway to resume the service of cargo transportation on passenger flights from Egypt to Canada after a two-year hiatus, Chairman of EgyptAir Cargo Bassem Gohar announced on Wednesday 18/4/2018. About 1,000 tons of cargos were transported annually on EgyptAir flights heading to Canada. The company is scheduled to operate regular cargo flights to North America as of October, especially after receiving new longrange Airbus A330 planes, EgyptAir said in a statement.

Austrian Airlines tweaks logo and livery Austrian Airlines has unveiled ―small-scale adjustments‖ to its logo, in an attempt to ―meet the demands of the digital world‖. Unlike its sister carrier Lufthansa – which recently unveiled major changes to its livery but was then quickly forced to rethink the changes – Austrian has opted for subtle changes to its branding. The airline’s trademark chevron and the Austrian wordmark have both been modernized, in a move which the carrier says will ―increase the long-distance effect on aircraft and billboards‖. Austrian also said that as ―80 percent of internet use takes place on a mobile basis‖… ―particular attention is being attached to ensure that the logo is more easily and clearly recognizable on mobile devices and smart watches‖. The before and after images show the changes to the logo, which Austrian says will debut on its new B777 aircraft which will make its first appearance next month. The amendments include an enlarged tailfin livery, stretching down into the fuselage, aimed at making the tailfin logo appear larger, and the Austrian wordmark has also been expanded, to be ―clearly visible from far away‖. The carrier said that its website and app would be relaunched at the start of 2019, with CCO Andreas Otto commenting: ―Digitalization is changing our lives. Our products, our brand and our company are also making themselves fit for the digital future. The realignment of our branding is another important step in this direction.‖ In a press release the carrier said that: The brand values of individuality, competence and Austrianess will remain untouched The typical ―Austrian Airlines red‖, which comprises the characteristic element of the airline’s branding, should be used in a more targeted manner as a distinguishing feature to set it apart from other airlines The logo should be deployed in a controlled and charming manner Austrian said that it would take around seven years for all of its aircraft to adopt the new livery, with 18 of the carrier’s 82 aircraft scheduled to feature the changes by the start of the summer 2019 flights schedules.

ETIHAD Airways will introduce Humanoid Robot Sophia to the UAE as a spokesperson for the future of innovation and technology in aviation at ATM.
Sophia is the AI-powered robot famous for speaking at the UN and interviewing celebrities and world leaders alike. She was named the United Nations Development Program’s first ever Innovation Champion for Asia and the Pacific, and is also the first robot in the world to have a nationality, after being granted citizenship by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Sophia will take part in a one-on-one interview with host Damian Watson, head of station at Abu Dhabi Media Company, to discuss the future of innovation and technology in aviation, as well as talk about her experiences and impressions of the Capital, at the Etihad Theatre on Etihad’s ATM stand on Sunday (April 22). The CFM56 jet engine on Southwest flight 1380 blew apart over Pennsylvania on Tuesday, about 20 minutes after the Dallas-bound flight left New York’s LaGuardia Airport with 149 people on board. The engine debris shattered a window on the Boeing 737 plane, killing a passenger - the first death in a U.S. airline accident since 2009. The plane made an emergency landing in Philadelphia. The Federal Aviation Administration said late on Wednesday it was working to quickly finalize an airworthiness directive within the next two weeks that had been proposed in August 2017 after a similar engine failure in a Southwest plane in 2016, which it said would apply to 220 engines. National Transportation Safety Board investigators on the scene were expected to wrap up their work in Philadelphia on Saturday, the agency said on Friday. Southwest said after the incident that it was accelerating its existing engine inspection program ―out of an abundance of caution‖ and expected to complete it over the next 30 days. The company has declined to answer questions about the status of those inspections and whether the engine that failed had previously been inspected or whether the inspections have turned up any evidence of defects or metal fatigue. The FAA order will require ultrasonic inspection within the next six months of the fan blades on all CFM56-7B engines that have accrued a certain number of takeoffs. Others more recently serviced will require inspections within 18 months, the FAA draft order said. Airlines told the FAA last year that because fan blades may have been repaired and moved to other engines, the order would affect far more than 220 CFM56-7Bs, which are made by a partnership of France’s Safran SA and General Electric Co.

Air France workers have been holding a series of walkouts in recent weeks over pay, with unions arguing that salaries have been frozen since 2011 and pay offers should reflect missed inflation over that time. The airline said unions had rejected Air France’s latest offer of a multi-year ―growth pact‖ pay proposal, which promised a 7% wage increase over four years as well as individual increases, but included scope to adjust that if Air France's financial result was less than €200 million ($246 million) and to apply a reversion clause in case of higher inflation or a negative financial result. ―This agreement, open to signature by the representative unions until today, Friday 20 April at midday, has not received the majority signatures required,‖ Air France-KLM said. The airline will now consult all staff on the ―growth pact‖ agreement, with an electronic vote open from April 26 to early May, and Janaillac declaring himself ―personally accountable for the consequences of the vote.‖ ―In the face of such a severe situation and because the company’s future could be under threat, I have decided to launch this consultation with all staff who over several years have been fully committed to improving Air France's competitiveness,‖ Janaillac said. ―I cannot accept the disaster unfolding whereas a large majority of staff are not taking part in the strike action. Therefore, to put an end to this disaster and re-affirm the entire company’s commitment to the growth dynamic, I am calling on everyone to make their voices heard.‖
