The FAA today rescinded a Notam it issued on Saturday prohibiting all U.S. airlines, commercial operators and pilots from flying into Turkey until September 1, following a failed military coup in Turkey on Friday. The FAA said it would review its position by August 15, and it did so today after the situation in Turkey quickly restabilized following the failed coup. According to flight planning firm Flight Service Bureau, the ban had applied to all airports within the Istanbul flight information region (FIR) and the Ankara FIR, which together cover the entire country. It did not prohibit entry into the FIRs or overflying Turkey. In addition, the FAA had banned direct flights between Turkey and any U.S. airport. These direct flights are once again permitted, following the agency's cancellation of the Notam today.

The information includes citizen resident numbers, passport information, home addresses, bank account details, phone numbers and family relations records. The information, saved on the company's website (flyasiana.com) for the past several years, is believed to have been compromised. Victims are Koreans and foreigners who traveled or will travel using Asiana or its affiliated airlines, such as United Airlines, Lufthansa, Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines and Scandinavian Airlines, among others.

The Korea Times was able to access hundreds of scanned private documents belonging to customers. They are part of an estimated 47,000 documents believed to have been compromised. The oldest document obtained by The Korea Times is a flight ticket invoice issued in September 2014. But it is possible the leak extends farther. It is unknown whether the data has already fallen into criminal hands. Computer engineers who analyzed the exposed data and the way it was accessed said the scanned documents appear to have been attached to customers' query emails to Asiana. Asiana temporarily shut its server for the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section following the report on the leak and launched an investigation into the case. "Customers' information that has been saved on the FAQ server since May 2015 seems to have been compromised," Asiana said in a statement. "An investigation is underway to verify the scope of compromised data." The prosecution and the Korea Internet and Security Agency have launched a respective investigation into the matter.

A foreign computer engineer who first drew attention to the security loophole said: "No hacking skills were required to retrieve it. Just basic knowledge of web development." Computer engineers here echoed the view, saying Asiana's website security was "extremely poor." They said this was a clear violation of the Personal Information Protection Act, which requires companies handling personal data to store it securely. "It's evident that there were security loopholes on Asiana's website," said a computer engineer who examined the leaked documents. "If malicious hackers learned how to access it, they would have been able to steal tens of thousands of copies of private information in seconds using a data-collecting program that is readily available online." Asiana has built the websites of its two low-cost carrier affiliates ― Air Busan and Air Seoul ― with a similar technical framework.

Barcelona extend Qatar Airways sponsorship deal Qatar Airways will remain Barcelona's main sponsor for 2016-17 after both parties agreed a one-year renewal to their existing deal. Barcelona have extended their sponsorship deal with Qatar Airways with one additional year until June 2017. The previous contract between both parties expired at the end of the 2015-16 campaign and Barcelona were reportedly keen to find a more lucrative main sponsor. However, Qatar Airways now stay on Barcelona's jersey for an extra season under the same terms of their old deal, which is reportedly worth â‚Ź35 million per season. "Qatar Airways has helped us to make Barca bigger in recent years," said Barcelona's vice-president of marketing and communication Manel Arroyo. "The success that has accompanied the club has partly been their work. "It is a pleasure to be able to work together for another season and we hope to continue along the same lines of mutual growth." The delegation, which includes five British aviation security experts, will issue a final report where they will evaluate the security situation at the airport at the end of their four-days visit. The experts, who are aiming to inspect procedures to secure passengers and luggage, focused on reviewing security measures applied on two British Airways flights bound for London's Heathrow Airport. In April, a Russian committee arrived in Egypt to inspect airports' security measures, five months after Moscow suspended flights with Egypt. It marked the second visit for Russian experts in 2016, after a Russian Aviation Authority delegation visited Egypt in January for the same reason. Egypt's airport security came under the spotlight after the suspected bombing of a Russian passenger jet in Sinai in October 2015 killed all 224 people on board. Following the crash, British and Russian governments banned their airlines from flying to Red Sea resort of Sharm al-Sheikh because of concerns about security at the local airport. The airlines had several hours of flight delay, leading to the cancellation of some. Scores of passengers at the domestic wing of the airport waited for hours to know the status of their flights. Airlines have been merging flights since the problem started five days ago. In a statement yesterday, Arik Air spokesman, Mr Adebanji Ola said the airline is grappling with flight schedule disruptions because of what he called the severe scarcity of aviation fuel. He said the scarcity started at the beginning of the year. Nigeria had been grappling with inadequate supply of aviation fuel leading in most cases to severe shortage of the product and the disruption of flights. For the past week, the airline, he said faced another aviation fuel scarcity which got worse over this weekend leading to many flight delays and cancellations. The airline operates an average of 120 flights daily requiring about 500,000 litres of fuel daily. Arik said it was the worst hit because of its large number of domestic and international flights as oil marketers are unable to meet its daily fuel requirements on a timely and consistent basis. This, Ola said, has forced the airline to postpone flights while waiting for the marketers to source and deliver the product. He said: ―At the root of the fuel supply crisis is low stock due to the inability of marketers to source for the foreign exchange to import more Jet A1 fuel into the country. There is also a distribution challenge as the discharging of vessels bringing Jet A1 and other petroleum products are done in the same Jetty and loading various trucks for distribution to cities like Kano or Abuja takes considerable effort and time. The situation in the north is even more difficult since the product takes longer to be delivered due to the trucking distance. Oil marketers have also resorted to trucking of aviation fuel to the airports because hydrants are not consistently available at the airports.‖ The airline said it was working on a longer term plan which will be finalised in the coming months to mitigate the situation and be in a better position to address such supply shortages and delays. He went on: ―While the Federal Government and oil marketers are working hard to address the supply and distribution challenges, we appeal to our guests to bear with us as they may experience flights, delays and cancellation because of the prevailing scarcity of aviation fuel across the country. Marketers have assured that the situation would improve this week as they are expecting delivery of additional stock. Where flights are likely to be delayed or cancelled, Arik Air will notify passengers through SMS and do all possible to accommodate passengers on the first available alternate flight.‖
