Direct connection to Canada from 2016 Air Canada Rouge will launch three flights a week between Toronto Pearson International Airport and Budapest next June. The largest Canadian carrier will operate the direct flight during the summer period using 280-seater Boeing 767300ER aircraft. The first Air Canada Rouge flight from Toronto is due to touch down at Budapest Airport on Friday June 10, 2016, with 24 business and 256 economy class seats. It is no coincidence that the Canadian metropolis is featured in Budapest Airport‟s route network because it is home to the largest population of Hungarian origin in Canada. In addition, not only family but business relations are developing dynamically between the two countries. Canada is the tenth-largest foreign investor in the Hungarian economy. The new route will initially operate in the summer season until October 15, 2016. As a member of the Star Alliance airline association, parent company Air Canada not only offers transfer options within Canada in Toronto but also to numerous other destinations in Northern and Central America, such as New York Newark, Denver and virtually all Caribbean holiday destinations, including Varadero in Cuba. Budapest Airport CEO Jost Lammers said: “Let me congratulate the teams of both Air Canada and Budapest Airport for making this new route a reality. It will connect not only Canadian but also a series of other North American destinations for travellers from Budapest, both in the business and leisure segment. “I am sure it will be a huge success in itself between Toronto and Budapest, but it also has an additional value in offering a series of transfer possibilities through other Star Alliance member airlines.” Air Canada Rouge was launched in December 2012 specifically to serve leisure destinations, primarily tourist resorts in Central America, the Caribbean, on the west coast of the United States and popular holiday and leisure destinations in Europe. Together with regional airline Air Canada Express, the company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Air Canada, the largest Canadian airline. Air Canada Rouge has a fleet of 34 aircraft, comprising 20 Airbus A319-100s and 14 Boeing 767-300ERs. Another five Airbus A321-200s will start to arrive in December. Its flights operate under the flight numbers of the parent company but are marked “operated by Air Canada Rouge” and the aircraft livery also differs from that of Air Canada.

http://www.examiner.com/ Severe turbulence on Philippine Airline flight from Hawaii injures 17 It‟s the dread of every flyer, severe turbulence during a flight that gives you butterflies, makes you pray and hold on to the arm rests for dear life. And it happened Friday, Sept. 18 on aPhilippine Airline flight from Honolulu to Manila. The Airbus 340, flight PR101 which was buffeted by clear air turbulence for four hours during the 11-hour flight, knocked frightened and screaming passengers around. Eturbonews reported that a few passengers were sent flying from their seats, hitting their heads on the ceiling of the passenger compartment. There were 132 passengers on board the flight. Clear air turbulence is defined as turbulence that is not associated with cloud and therefore cannot be detected visually or by conventional weather radar. It happens when bodies of air moving at widely different speeds meet in the absence of any visual cues, such as clouds. Just about everyone who has ever flown has experienced turbulence during a flight, sometimes it‟s just a minor disturbance of a few minutes and it seems to always happen when meals are being served. But like this recent incident there are times when it just doesn‟t stop which was the case a few years ago on a Singapore Airlines flight from Singapore bound for Los Angeles which flew into such severe air that flight attendants and passengers were confined to their seats for more than four hours. It is truly a frightening and very inconvenient experience especially when passengers get air sick from the movement and can‟t leave their seats (which is why there are barf bags in the seat jacket). CNN reported on the incident adding that acording to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) management, a medical team was dispatched to assist 17 passengers after the plane landed as scheduled at NAIA Terminal 2 shortly after 4 p.m. The flight left Honolulu at 12:06 p.m. After landing in Manila a team of medical personnel were dispatched along with PAL customer relations officers to provide all available assistance to the passengers, the statement said.

http://www.emirates247.com/ 96-hour transit visa for all airline passengers at UAE airports Transit passengers can avail of a 96-hour visa at UAE airports irrespective of the airlines they are flying in. A transit 96 hours visa is being issued to passengers arriving at UAE airport through any international airline, General Directorate of Residency & Foreigners Affairs-Dubai has said. Previously, such a visa was given only to passengers flying on UAE airlines. According to an email from Amer Contact Center, a passenger can apply for a transit 96 hours visa at the airport upon paying its fees. However, they have to meet certain conditions such as the duration between the two trips should not be less than 8 hours and the two trips should be to different destinations (one should transit from Dubai to another destination and not back to the same place where he/she came from.) A hotel booking was mandatory if anyone wanted to apply for transit visa, a call centre executive told „Emirates24|7‟. “You can book your hotel before coming to Dubai or there are hotel booking facilities available at the airport itself,” the executive added. A call centre employee of the Abu Dhabi eGovernment Gateway also confirmed the availability of visa at the airport. The applicant will need original passport and a valid ticket for onward flight. The fee for the visa is Dh170. Moreover, Etihad Airline states on its website that it is under the responsibility of the guests applying for the visa to ensure that they do not violate the conditions of the visa, in particular to ensure that the 96 hours entry permitted in to the UAE is not exceeded. “Any person staying beyond the permissible 96 hours would be considered illegally staying in the country and may be subject to fines and penalties imposed by the UAE immigration authorities,” the website says. A 96-hour transit visa is for a four-day stay with the first day of arrival (until midnight) being considered as Day 1 with three more days left to stay. The exit has to be completed before midnight of the 4th day, the airline informs.

http://wap.business-standard.com/ How fixing Air India can help India India‟s national carrier Air India, the brand that today encompasses

both the erstwhile Indian Airlines and Air India, has posted a loss (Rs 5,547 crore) for the eighth successive year since its merger in March 2007. The accumulated loss is now more than Rs 44,000 crore ($7.3 billion)–equal to India‟s annual health budget–and borrowing has grown to more than Rs 38,000 crore ($6.3 billion), according to data compiled by IndiaSpend from the Department of Public Enterprises. As the first part of this series explained, Air India accounts for 25% of the Rs 20,000-crore loss showed by 71 PSUs in 2013-14 (BSNL accounts for 35% of that loss, as the second part of this series detailed). If Air India‟s losses can be stemmed, the Indian government will have more money to spend on everything from clinics to highways. Analysts often cite reasons related to the post-merger era, including poor management, competition after aviation-sector liberalisation in 2004–after which its market share shrank from 50% to 17%–and a workforce that has grown 66% in 10 years. But the downslide began before 2007. Between 1996 and 2006, Air India lost money in five of 10 years, and Indian Airlines in four. The accumulated loss of the companies when they merged was Rs 1,111 crore. .
