إنجً خلٌفة استقبل صباح الٌوم الطٌار محمد منار وزٌر الطٌران المدنً بمكتبه جٌفري آدامز سفٌر برٌطانٌا بالقاهرة لبحث سبل تعزٌز التعاون بٌن الدولتٌن فً مجال النقل الجوي ،وٌأتً ذلك فى إطار اللقاءات والزٌارات المستمرة بسفراء الدول المختلفة من أجل زٌادة وتنشٌط الحركة الجوٌة والسٌاحٌة الوافدة إلى جمهورٌة مصر العربٌة وزٌادة فرص االستثمار. جاء ذلك بحضور الطٌار منتصر مناع نائب وزٌر الطٌران المدنً والمهندس محمد سعٌد محروس رئٌس الشركة القابضة للمطارات والمالحة الجوٌة واللواء طارق نصٌر رئٌس قطاع األمن بالوزارة. فى بداٌة اللقاء رحب وزٌر الطٌران بالسفٌر البرٌطانً مشٌداً بعمق العالقات اإلستراتٌجٌة بٌن مصر وبرٌطانٌا فى مختلف المجاالت االقتصادٌة والثقافٌة والتجارٌة وبخاصة مجال الطٌران المدنى ،وأوضح الوزٌر أن رؤٌة وزارة الطٌران فى المرحلة القادمة تهدف إلى تطوٌر وزٌادة سعة المطارات الحالٌة إلستٌعاب الكثافة المتوقعة فى أعداد الركاب وحركة الشحن الجوي وذلك فً إطار خطة الدولة التى تهدف إلى زٌادة معدالت النمو اإلقتصادى وهو ما ٌتطلب التعاون مع الدول المختلفة. كما تناول اللقاء سبل تنشٌط الحركة الجوٌة بٌن البلدٌن وتعزٌز االتفاقٌات المشتركة فً هذا المجال وكذا التعاون فى مجاالت التدرٌب والصٌانة باإلضافة إلى ملف تأمٌن المطارات المصرٌة والتنسٌق بٌن الجانبٌن فً مجال مشروعات البنٌة التحتٌة بالمطارات المصرٌة.

مصر للطٌران تطلق رحالتها من شرم الشٌخ الى األقصر
أطلقت مصر للطٌران رحالت أسبوعٌة من شرم الشٌخ الى األقصر ابتداءاً من 20شباط -فبراٌر 2020 كما ورد فً قاعدة بٌانات ( Route Changes).تعتزم مصر للطٌران تشغٌل هذا الخط بطائرة إرباص A220-3

األربعاء ..مصر للطٌران تستقبل الطائرة الرابعة طراز إٌرباص A320Neo
محمد عبٌد ٌستقبل مطار القاهرة الدولً ،بعد غد األربعاء ،الطائرة الرابعة الجدٌدة بحروف تسجٌل SU-GFMمن طراز ً قادمة من مصنع شركة إٌرباص العالمٌة فً مدٌنة تولوز بفرنسا من أصل 15طائرة من عائلة إٌرباص A320neo طائرات A320neoتم التعاقد علٌها لتشمل 8طائرات من طراز اإلٌرباص ،A320Neoو7طائرات من طراز اإلٌرباص A321Neoلتكون بذلك أول شركة ُتشغل معا طرازي A320neoو A220من الطائرات الحدٌثة ذات الممر الواحد فً أسطولها الجوي فً منطقة الشرق األوسط وأفرٌقٌا. وقال الطٌار أحمد عادل رئٌس الشركة القابضة لمصر للطٌران ،إنه فً إطار خطة الدولة وتوجهات وزارة الطٌران المدنً لتطوٌر أسطول الناقل الوطنً الرسمً وبالتعاون مع شركة إٌرباص العالمٌة ،وصل عدد طائرات إٌرباص التابعة ألسطول مصر للطٌران حالٌا إلى 25طائرة من بٌنها 9طائرات من طراز A220 -300وٌأتً إضافة طرازي A320neoو A220فً إطار خطط الشركة لتحدٌث وتطوٌر جمٌع طائرات أسطولها ذات الممر الواحد. وأضاف "عادل" ،أن الطائرة توفر مستوٌات عالٌة من الراحة على جمٌع الدرجات من خالل األجواء واإلنارة المرٌحة، إلى جانب أحدث تقنٌات الترفٌه واالتصال باإلنترنت وخاصٌة الـ Live TVالتً تتٌح مشاهدة العدٌد من القنوات األخبارٌة و الرٌاضٌة و غٌرها إلعطاء تجربة ممٌزة للمسافرٌن على متنها ،و ٌوجد شاشة شخصٌة فً كل مقعد سواء علً درجة رجال األعمال و الدرجة السٌاحٌة.

وتتمتع عائلة ،A320neoبهٌكل عرٌض ٌعد األوسع ضمن فئة طائرات الممر الواحد وتحتوي الطائرة على أحدث التقنٌات المبتكرة ،بما فٌها المقصورة األفضل فً القطاع وأحدث جٌل من المحركات التً من شأنها توفٌر %20فً معدالت استهالك الوقود عن ك ّل مقعد. وتمتاز A320neoبمستوٌا ٍ ت منخفضة من االنبعاثات ،فضالً عما تقدمه من مزاٌا صدٌقة للبٌئة وقدرتها على الحد من ً مقارنة بالجٌل السابق ،كما أنها تتمٌز بتحدٌد الصٌانة لها باألشهر ولٌس بعدد الضوضاء الصادرة عنها بنسبة %50 ساعات التشغٌل وهذا ٌوفر علً شركة مصرللطٌران التكلفة مما ٌتٌح تحدٌد اسعار الرحالت ومدي تأثٌرها علً التكلفة الربحٌة. وتم تزوٌد طائرة مصر للطٌران بمحركات من طراز LEAP-1Aمن شركة "سً إف إم إنترناشٌونال" ،فضالً عن تصمٌم المقصورة الواسع المكون من درجتٌن وبما مجموعه 142مقعداً بواقع 16مقعد فً درجة رجال األعمال والتً توفر 48بوصة ( 122سنتٌمتر) لكل مقعد ،و 126مقعداً فً الدرجة السٌاحٌة موفرة من 29إلى 30بوصة (76-74 سنتٌمتر) للمقعد الواحد

نٌجٌرٌا تختار كونسورتٌوم مصر للطٌران لمشروع تأجٌر طائرات
اختارت نٌجٌرٌا اتحاد شركات ٌضم مصر للطٌران إلقامة شركة تأجٌر طائرات فً إطار خطة حكومٌة إلصالح قطاع النقل الجوي بالبالد. تعانً نٌجٌرٌا من تدنً جودة البنٌة التحتٌة جراء عقود من اإلهمال ونقص االستثمار مما ٌعوق تطورها االقتصادي. وتقول الحكومة إن تطوٌر البنٌة التحتٌة ٌتطلب استثمارات خاصة. وسعى البلد الستقدام شركاء من القطاع الخاص إلقامة شركة لتأجٌر الطائرات من أجل مساعدة الناقالت المحلٌة واإلفرٌقٌة فً الحصول على طائرات جدٌدة. وقالت وزارة الطٌران الٌوم االثنٌن إنها اختارت كونسورتٌوم مصر للطٌران من أجل مشروع شركة تأجٌر الطائرات، التً تهدف الحكومة إلقامتها فً شكل شراكة بٌن القطاعٌن العام والخاص. وستبدأ الشركة الجدٌدة باستئجار الطائرات من مؤجرٌن عالمٌٌن ثم تأجٌرها إلى المشغلٌن المحلٌٌن .وقالت الحكومة إنها ستملك حصة أقلٌة فً الشركة. وترغب معظم شركات الطٌران فً نٌجٌرٌا فً توسعة أساطٌلها ،لكن ارتفاع تكالٌف التموٌل ومخاطر سعر الصرف تعوق النمو .وتجنً شركاات الطٌران النٌجٌرٌة إٌراداتها بالعملة المحلٌة الناٌرا فً حٌن أن معظم تكالٌفها بالدوالر األمرٌكً. وتقول نٌجٌرٌا أٌضا إنها تخطط لنقل إدارة المطارات إلى شركات من القطاع الخاص كطرٌقة لجذب االستثمار. وقالت الوزارة إنها أعدت قائمة مختصرة تضم كال من كونسورتٌوم مصر للطٌران والخطوط الجوٌة اإلثٌوبٌة إلقامة منشأة لصٌانة الطائرات فً الجوس أو أبوجا.

أعلن طٌران ناس إطالق 10وجهات جدٌدة ومباشرة خالل موسم الصٌف المقبل. وقال طٌران ناس إن الوجهات الجدٌدة تم إطالقها من الرٌاض وجدة والدمام والقصٌم لمدن وعواصم عالمٌة خالل صٌف ،2020ابتدا ًء من 19ماٌو المقبل.

إجازة إجبارٌة لموظفً شركة طٌران آسٌوٌة بضغوط كورونا
تواجه أنشطة شركات الطٌران اآلسٌوٌة آثارا سلبٌة متصاعدة بسبب تفشً فٌروس كورونا "كوفٌد ،"19-ما دفع شركة تابعة لشركة طٌران كورٌة جنوبٌة لمنح موظفٌها إجازة إجبارٌة. وأعلنت شركة طٌران بوسان "" ،Air Busanوهً وحدة تابعة لشركة خطوط آسٌانا الجوٌة " Asiana طوعا إجازة غٌر مدفوعة األجر بسبب انخفاض الطلب على السفر " ،Airlinesالٌوم اإلثنٌن ،أن موظفٌها سٌأخذون ً جراء ظاهرة انتشار فٌروس كورونا. ومنتصف الشهر الجاري ،أعلنت منظمة الطٌران المدنً الدولً" ،إٌكاو" ،أن شركات الطٌران العالمٌة تكبدت خسائر بملٌارات الدوالرات من جراء فٌروس كورونا الجدٌد. وقالت المنظمة التابعة لألمم المتحدة" :إن أرباح شركات الطٌران العالمٌة سجلت تراجعا ً محتمالً بٌن 4و 5ملٌارات دوالر" ،وفق ما أوردت "فرانس برس". وٌقترب العدد اإلجمالً لإلصابات بالفٌروس فً جمٌع أنحاء العالم من 80ألفا ،باإلضافة إلى نحو 2500حالة وفاة، وفقا لعداد "بلومبرج". وقالت شركة طٌران بوسان" :إن الكثٌر من موظفٌها البالغ عددهم 1400موظف مستعدون الختٌار ثالثة خٌارات :العمل أربعة أٌام فً األسبوع ،أو ٌ 15و ًما أو ٌ 30و ًما من اإلجازة غٌر مدفوعة األجر ،ابتدا ًء من مارس/آذار المقبل ،وفقا لما نقلته وكالة ٌونهاب الكورٌة. .

2 وأكدت الشركة أنها ستخفض أجور المدراء التنفٌذٌٌن ورؤساء اإلدارات بنسبة تصل من %30إلى %10على التوالً. وذكرت الشركة أنها ستعلق الرحالت عبر تسعة خطوط صٌنٌة و 19خطا لجنوب شرق آسٌا فً مارس/آذار بسبب االنخفاض الحاد فً الطلب على السفر الجوي بسبب تفشً فٌروس كورونا. وفً األسبوع الماضً ،بدأ جمٌع موظفً خطوط آسٌانا الجوٌة البالغ عددهم 10500موظف اإلجازة غٌر مدفوعة األجر بالتناوب لمدة 10أٌام من أجل خفض التكالٌف ٌشار إلى أن خطوط آسٌانا الجوٌة آسٌانا تملك %44من أسهم شركة طٌران بوسان. وخطوط طٌران آسٌان هً شركة طٌران وطنٌة كورٌة خاصة ،تتخذ من مطار غٌمبو الدولً مركزاً لعملٌاتها ،وٌقع المقر الرئٌسً للشركة فً سٌول عاصمة كورٌا الجنوبٌة ،وتقدم الشركة خدماتها إلى أكثر من 75وجهة فً آسٌا، أوروبا ،أسترالٌا ،الوالٌات المتحدة والشرق األوسط ،وتعتبر الشركة أحد أعضاء تحالف ستار. وٌعتقد الخبراء أن كورونا سوف "ٌهز االقتصاد العالمً وٌهدده" ،وفقا لما نقلته صحٌفة "وول سترٌت جورنال" عن أحد قادة األعمال ،الذي وصف تأثٌر الفٌروس على عمله بأنه شًء "ٌحدث مرة واحدة فً العمر". وألغت حوالً 70شركة طٌران جمٌع الرحالت الدولٌة الم ّتجهة من وإلى البر الرئٌسً للصٌن ،كما قلصت 50شركة طٌران أخرى عملٌاتها الجوٌة ذات الصلة. وأدت هذه اإلجراءات إلى انخفاض بنسبة %80فً سعة شركات الطٌران األجنبٌة للمسافرٌن مباشرة من وإلى الصٌن، وانخفاض بنسبة %40فً سعة شركات الطٌران الصٌنٌة للمسافرٌن. وخالل الربع األول من العام الجاري سجل "انخفاضا ً بنسبة تتراوح بٌن %39و %41فً سعة الركاب ،أي أقل بما بٌن 16,4و 19,6ملٌون مسافر ،مقارنة بما كانت تتو ّقعه شركات الطٌران" ،وفقا لبٌانات إٌكاو

تعلن شؤون الطٌران المدنً فً مملكة البحرٌن عن تعلٌق جمٌع الرحالت القادمة من مطار دبً الدولً ومطار الشارقة الدولً لمدة 48ساعة. وتلفت شؤون الطٌران المدنً عناٌة المسافرٌن البحرٌنٌٌن والمقٌمٌن المتواجدٌن فً المناطق الموبوءة بفٌروس الكورونا (كوفٌد )19االتصال على الرقم .17227555 973+ وتؤكد شؤون الطٌران المدنً بأنها تقوم بالتعاون مع كافة الجهات المعنٌة باتخاذ التدابٌر الالزمة للوقاٌة من فٌروس الكورونا (كوفٌد ،)19حٌث سٌتم فحص جمٌع القادمٌن لمطار البحرٌن الدولً المشتبه إصابتهم بالفٌروس للتأكد من عدم إصابتهم بالفٌروس ،وفً حال ظهور األعراض علٌهم سٌتم نقلهم فورا للعالج بعد التأكد من نتائج التحلٌل ،وعزلهم فً المراكز المخصصة لذلك. وشددت شؤون الطٌران المدنً على ضرورة االلتزام باإلرشادات التوعوٌة وطرق الوقاٌة من فٌروس الكورونا (كوفٌد .)19

وكالة :الخطوط القطرٌة تؤكد عدم اهتمامها باالستثمار فً طٌران إٌطالٌا أكدت الخطوط الجوٌة القطرٌة عدم اهتمامها باالستثمار فً الناقلة اإلٌطالٌة المتعثرة "طٌران إٌطالٌا". وقالت الخطوط القطرٌة ،الٌوم الجمعة ،أنها فً نفس الوقت "ستفعل كل ما بوسعها كمساهم بحصة أقلٌة من أجل العاملٌن والركاب" فً طٌران إٌطالٌا ،وفقا ً لوكالة "روٌترز". وصرحت الخطوط القطرٌة" :لم تعد الخطوط الجوٌة القطرٌة مهتمة باالستثمار فً طٌران إٌطالٌا أو فً أي مشروع للنقل الجوي فً إٌطالٌا". وكانت الخطوط الجوٌة القطرٌة ،أعلنت فً 11فبراٌر/شباط الجاري ،استعدادها لدعم شركة طٌران إٌطالٌا المتعثرة ،التً اتفق مستثمروها على تصفٌتها. وذكرت الخطوط الجوٌة القطرٌة -التً تمتلك نسبة 49بالمائة من شركة طٌران إٌطالٌا-حٌنها ،إنها واجهت التغٌّرات التً طرأت على البٌئة التنافسٌة والظروف السوقٌة متزاٌدة الصعوبة والتً كان لها عظٌم األثر على قطاع النقل الجوي ،بتأكٌد التزامها باالستثمار فً شركة طٌران إٌطالٌا بسبب 3 عناصر. وأوضحت الخطوط القطرٌة ،أن العناصر هً دعم النمو االقتصادي ،وإتاحة المزٌد من خٌارات السفر أمام الركاب ،ودعم المجتمعات المحلٌة والشركاء اآلخرٌن. وأشارت الخطوط الجوٌة القطرٌة سابقاً ،إلى أنها دعمت خطة عمل إدارة طٌران إٌطالٌا منذ استحواذها على حصة أقلٌة فٌها فً سبتمبر/أٌلول ،2017بهدف تعزٌز نموها وتمكٌنها من إتاحة المزٌد من الوظائف ،مع إضافة رحالت طوٌلة المدى إلى شبكة وجهاتها. وٌذكر أن شركة طٌران إٌطالٌا تعرف فً السابق باسم مٌرٌدٌانا ،وهً ثانً أكبر شركة طٌران فً إٌطالٌا بعد "ألٌطالٌا".

Nigeria picks Egypt Air consortium for aviation venture Nigeria has selected a consortium including Egypt Air [RIC:RIC:EGY.UL] to set up an aviation leasing company as part of a government plan to overhaul the country's aviation sector. Decades of neglect and a lack of investment have left Nigeria with low-quality infrastructure seen as a hurdle to economic development. The government has said upgrading infrastructure will require private investment. It has been seeking private partners to set up an aircraft leasing company to help domestic and African carriers obtain new planes. The Ministry of Aviation said on Monday it has picked the Egypt Air consortium for the aviation leasing company, which the government aims to set up as a private/public partnership. The new company will initially lease aircraft from international lessors and then lease them on to domestic operators. The government has said it will hold a minority stake in the company. Most airlines in Nigeria want to expand their fleets, but high financing costs and currency risks have hampered growth. Nigerian airlines' revenues are earned in naira while most of their costs are paid in U.S. dollars. Nigeria has also said it plans to hand over its airports to private managers as a way to attract investment. The ministry also said it has short-listed the Egypt Air consortium as well as Ethiopian Airlines [RIC:RIC:ETHA.UL] to set up an aircraft maintenance facility in Lagos or Abuja.

FG shortlists Ethiopian Airlines, others for aircraft maintenance/leasing facility
The Federal Government on Monday shortlisted Ethiopian Airlines and a consortium of A. J. Walters/Glovesly/Egypt Air for its proposed aircraft Maintenance Repair and Overhaul facility. The consortium of A. J. Walters/Glovesly/Egypt Air was also shortlisted as the preferred bidder for FG’s Aviation Leasing Company. The Director, Public Affairs, Ministry of Aviation, James Odaudu, said in a statement the processes for the establishment of both the Aviation Leasing Company and the MRO facility were components of the Federal Government’s aviation sector roadmap. Odaudu said the companies were selected during a process that involved officials of the Ministry of Aviation, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, Federal Ministry of Finance, aviation labour unions, transaction advisers and prospective investors.

TUI Returns To Sharm el Sheikh As Travel Restrictions Are Lifted UK tour operator TUI recently re-launched flights to Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt. Restrictions on flights to the popular holiday resort were imposed in November 2015 after a terrorist attack killed 224 people aboard a Metrojet Airbus A321. On Sunday 16 February, TUI’s first flight from the UK to Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt touched down. Upon their arrival, passengers aboard the flight were greeted by a water salute and a reception complete with cocktails and local dignitaries. The re-launch of this popular tourist route comes after the UK Department for Transport citing improvements in security procedures in the region since the 2015 terror attack. Advertisement How frequent will TUI’s flights to Sharm el Sheikh be? TUI’s flight on 16 February wasn’t just the airline’s first flight to Sharm el Sheikh since travel restrictions were put in place. It was, in fact, the first flight to go direct from the UK to Sharm el Sheikh since restrictions were put in place full stop. Now that TUI has got the route back off the ground, it will be running two flights per week from London Gatwick to the Egyptian holiday resort. These flights will depart every Wednesday and Sunday. Other airlines to follow suit TUI isn’t the only airline that has relaunched flights to Sharm el Sheikh. From 29 February it looks like Egyptair will also be re-launching flights between the UK and Sharm el Sheikh. According to reports by Mail Online, easyJet will also launch twiceweekly flights from Manchester to Sharm el Sheikh beginning 7 June, as well as flights from London Gatwick from 30 September onwards. Russia is also gradually resuming flights to Egypt after it suspended all direct flights following the 2015 terror attack.

2 Metrojet flight 9268 The incident which sparked the UK’s decision to impose travel restrictions on flights to Shark el Sheikh was the bombing of Metrojet Flight 9268 on 31 October 2015. The Airbus A321-231 serving Metrojet flight 9268, was bound for St. Petersburg, Russia, but it was downed by an explosive device that triggered shortly after take-off from Sharm el Sheikh. All 224 people aboard the flight were killed as a result. The subsequent investigation into the incident suggested it was highly likely that a bomb was placed inside the aircraft’s cargo hold before take-off, and then detonated mid-air, causing the aircraft to disintegrate. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’s Sinai Province branch claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it had been carried out as revenge for Russian airstrikes in Syria. It has also been speculated that one of the aims of the attack was to reduce tourism to the area. According to reports by Anna Aero, the travel restrictions placed on flights from the UK to Sharm el Sheikh almost completely wiped out UK tourism to the area. Within the space of a year, UK visitors to the resort dropped from 1.18 million in 2015 to just 28,500 in 2016, all of which arrived via indirect routes.

Bahrain Blocks Flights From Dubai, As Gulf Countries Try To Get To Grips With Coronavirus Bahrain has announced without warning that it is blocking all incoming flights from Dubai International Airport for 48 hours, in a sign of the dramatic measures being taken by Gulf governments to try and halt the spread of Covid-19, the coronavirus which originated in China last year. In Kuwait, the government has also abruptly cancelled all festivities to mark the country’s National Day, due to be marked on February 25, and banned all sports fixtures for two weeks, as governments look for ways to deal with the threat. The Bahrain flight ban, reported by the official Bahrain News Agency in the early hours of February 25 local time, took effect immediately. It also covers flights arriving from another UAE airport, Sharjah International. There are at least 15 flights a day to Bahrain from Dubai International, one of the world’s busiest airports and the most important aviation hub in the Middle East. Those flights are operated by Bahrain’s national carrier Gulf Air as well as the UAE’s Fly Dubai and Emirates Airline. Air Arabia operates three flights a day from Sharjah to Bahrain. 2 The first case in Bahrain was announced on February 24, with a Bahraini citizen arriving from Iran reported to be infected; a second case was announced later the same day, this time of a Bahraini woman who had travelled from Iran via Dubai. Iran is by far the worst affected country in the region so far, with many hundreds of cases being reported, although there have also been allegations of an official coverup of the true extent of the situation. The first deaths in the region from the virus were also in Iran. At first, Gulf countries reacted to the health crisis by discouraging travel to China, but as the disease has spread, so have their restrictions, encompassing more countries and stricter measures. On February 20, Iraq suspended all flights to Iran until further notice, with Kuwait and Saudi Arabia taking similar steps the next day. On February 24, Kuwait also suspended all flights and ships going to and from Iraq. Oman suspended all flights to Iran on the same day. Iranian media outlets have reported that Afghanistan, Armenia, Iraq, Pakistan and Turkey have all closed their borders with Iran. Economic costs It is too early to know what the economic impact of all these restrictions might be, but it could be substantial. Travel bans and flight suspensions will have a direct impact on the tourism and logistics markets, but almost all sectors of the local economies could be affected to some extent.

3 In a research note issued on February 17, Oxford Economics noted that “the coronavirus epidemic now clouds the outlook for global travel and tourism, which contributes over 10% to the UAE’s GDP.” It noted that arrivals from China and North East Asia account for just under 8% of total arrivals to the UAE, and 5% in Qatar. “Concerns over the coronavirus impact may take a toll on sentiment and threaten the recovery in GCC non-oil activity,” the report said. Credit ratings agency Standard & Poor’s has pointed out that China buys between 4% and 45% of GCC countries' goods exports, with Oman being the most exposed, while Dubai received almost 1 million visitors from China last year. “If the virus continues to spread, there is a risk that the economic impact could increase unpredictably,” S&P said in a research note issued on February 16. “For the GCC, this could result in a drop in oil prices, economic growth, and real estate prices.” Speaking in the Saudi capital Riyadh on February 22, IMF managing director Kristalina Georgieva said her organisation’s baseline scenario sees China’s economy returning to normal in the second quarter of the year and the impact on global growth would be just 0.1%. “But we are also looking at more dire scenarios where the spread of the virus continues for longer and more globally, and the growth consequences are more protracted,” she added.

Ethiopia Airlines to continue to fly to China despite coronavirus outbreak Ethiopia Airlines is to continue its flight services to various cities in China despite the spread of Coronavirus (CODVID-19) in that country. The Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopia Airlines, Tewolde GebreMariam said, “Travel ban is not internationally recommended precautionary measure to curb the spread of Coronavirus. WHO has advised that there is no need to impose a travel ban to/from China due to the outbreak. African Union’s Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has also advised that airlines should not stop flying to China. Accordingly, we have continued our flights to our Chinese destinations.” Currently, Ethiopian flies to five Chinese cities, namely, Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Hong Kong. The Airline operates a total of 35 weekly flights to China for most of the year. Mr GebreMariam said the airline is currently following the World Health organization’s )WHO( recommendation to protect flight crew, employees and passengers from potential infection. He said, “We are following all WHO recommended precautions and collaborating actively with the Ministry of Health, Public Health Institute and all stakeholders. We provide our crew with all the equipment they need to protect themselves and passengers from possible infection.” Mr GebreMariam added “Even if Ethiopian stops flying to China, it doesn’t mean that our country will be free from the virus unless we make the right prevention. Some airlines have several daily flights to/from China to their hubs and from there they connect passengers daily to Addis Ababa and other destinations.”
