مطار القاهرة ٌستقبل 116رحلة لمصر للطٌران خالل 24ساعة

استقبل مطار القاهرة الدولى الٌوم األحد 116رحلة جوٌة سٌرتها الشركة الوطنٌة مصر للطٌران من العواصم والمدن العالمٌة والمطارات الداخلٌة المصرٌة. وسٌرت مصر للطٌران 88رحلة دولٌة من المطارات والعواصم العربٌة والعالمٌة، كما وصلت أٌضا 28رحلة من المدن الداخلٌة المصرٌة ،على متنها 9آالف و856 راكبا. وشهدت معظم الرحالت انتظا ًما فى مواعٌد وصولها لمطار القاهرة الدولى ،حسب جدول التشغٌل المقرر.

كتب محمد طنطاوى شهد مطار القاهرة الدولى األحد انطالق 214رحلة دولٌة وداخلٌة تابعة لشركة مصر للطٌران والشركات األجنبٌة والعربٌة العاملة بالمطار لتقل 21ألف و 673راكب من مختلف الجنسٌات. وأفاد مصدر مالحى أن الشركة الوطنٌة مصر للطٌران سٌرت منفردة 115رحلة دولٌة وداخلٌة الى المطارات والمدن والعواصم العربٌة والعالمٌة ،وشهدت معظم رحالت مصر للطٌران التى أقلعت بداٌة من الدقٌقة األولً لٌوم األحد انتظا ًما فً مواعٌد اإلقالع حسب جدول التشغٌل المقرر ،ولم تسجل الشركة أى إلغاءات للرحالت المقررة.

استقبل مبنى الرحالت الموسمٌة بمطار القاهرة الدولى ،الٌوم األحد 16 ،رحلة جوٌة سٌرتها الشركة الوطنٌة مصر للطٌران من مطاري جدة والمدٌنة المنورة لعودة 3350معتمرا. وأفاد مصدر مالحً بالمطار ،أن مبنى الرحالت الموسمٌة استقبل 11رحلة من جدة ،و 5رحالت من المدٌنة المنورة على متنها 3350معتمرا ،مشٌرا إلى أنه من المقرر أن تصل خالل الساعات القلٌلة القادمة رحلتٌن للشركة الوطنٌة مصر للطٌران لمبنى الرحالت الموسمٌة. من جانبه أشار مصدر بالشركة الوطنٌة مصر للطٌران ،إلى أنه من المقرر أن تختتم الشركة موسم عودة معتمري شهر رمضان السبت المقبل.

مصر للطٌران :ال زٌادة فً أسعار تذاكر الطائرات

أكدت مصادر بشركة مصر للطٌران ،أنه لم ٌتم زٌادة أسعار تذاكر الطائرات، وذلك بعد قرار الحكومة برفع أسعار الوقود ،موضحة أن وقود الطائرات ٌرتبط باألسعار العالمٌة ولٌس بالسعر المحلً. ٌذكر أن مجلس الوزراء أقر زٌادة أسعار المنتجات البترولٌة فً ٌ 16ونٌو الجاري ،حٌث وصل سعر بنزٌن 95إلى ٧.٧5جنٌهات ،وبنزٌن 92بـ 6.٧5 جنٌهات ،والسوالر وبنزٌن 80بـ 5.5جنٌهات.

«مصر للطٌران» تعلن عن فرص عمل
أعلنت الشركة القابضة لمصر للطٌران ،الٌوم األحد ،عن حاجتها لشغل وظائف مهندسٌن كالتالً :مهندس صٌانة هٌكل ومحرك ،حاصل على بكالورٌوس كلٌة الهندسة من إحدى الجامعات أو معهد هندسة وتكنولوجٌا الطٌران تخصص "مٌكانٌكا قوى، هندسة طٌران وفضاء ،هندسة طٌران ،مٌكاترونكس" ،بتقدٌر تراكمً ال ٌقل عن جٌد. وأٌضا مهندس صٌانة أجهزة ،حاصل على بكالورٌوس كلٌة هندسة ،من إحدى الجامعات أو معهد هندسة تكنولوجٌا الطٌران تخصص "كهرباء قوى ،اتصاالت والكترونٌات، اتصاالت ،بتقدٌر تراكمً ال ٌقل عن جٌد .وٌستمر قبول الطلبات على الموقع االلكترونً لشركة مصر للطٌران ،للصٌانة واألعمال الفنٌة، ٌذكر أن الفرٌق ٌونس المصري وزٌر الطٌران المدنً ،صرح األسبوع الماضً ،بأنه سٌولً أهمٌة خاصة خالل المرحلة المقبلة لالنتهاء من المشروعات التً تم بدء العمل بها ،مؤكدا العمل على تطوٌر كافة المطارات المصرٌة ورفع كفاءتها والطاقة االستٌعابٌة الخاصة بها ،مع العمل على تحدٌث كافة األنظمة الخاصة بالتشغٌل .ولفت المصري إلى أنه من ضمن خططه العمل على تطوٌر أسطول مصر للطٌران بما ٌتناسب مع مكانة مصر باعتبارها دولة محورٌة مع العمل على تعزٌز الشراكات الخارجٌة مع الدول الصدٌقة فى المنطقة والعالم ،مضٌفا أن العنصر البشري وتطوٌر أداؤه والعمل على رفع مستواه الفنً والمهنى والعملً سٌكون الركٌزة األساسٌة لخطط التطوٌر ،حتى ٌمكن االستفادة من الطاقات الموجودة لخلق فرص من العمل وتطوٌر منظومة الطٌران.

هبوط طائرة لبنانٌة اضطرارٌا فً مطار القاهرة
محروس هنداوي هبطت طائرة لبنانٌة اضطرارٌا بمطار القاهرة عقب تحلٌقها فً الهواء قادمة من شرم الشٌخ فً طرٌقها إلى بٌروت ،إلنقاذ حٌاة راكبة لبنانٌة تعرضت لوعكة صحٌة مفاجئة. وقالت مصادر مالحٌة بمطار القاهرة ،إن سلطات المطار تلقت إشارة من قائد رحلة تابعة للخطوط اللبنانٌة "مٌدل اٌست" ٌطلب فٌها السماح له بالهبوط اضطرارٌا بالمطار إلنقاذ حٌاة راكبة أصٌبت بوعكة صحٌة. وأضافت المصادر ،أنه تم السماح للطائرة بالهبوط فً موقع 33بأرض المهبط، وإخطار إدارة الحجر الصحً برئاسة الدكتور حازم حسٌن ،وتم إنزال الراكبة وتدعى "دالٌا.و" 36سنة ،وإجراء اإلسعافات األولٌة لها تحت إشراف محمود غنٌم مشرف إسعاف المطار ،بتكلٌف من إبراهٌم حسن مدٌر إسعاف مطار القاهرة.

طائرة لبنانٌة تهبط اضطرارٌا فً مطار القاهرة إلنقاذ حٌاة راكبة
شهد مطار القاهرة الدولً الٌوم األحد ،هبوطا اضطرارٌا لطائرة لبنانٌة ،إلنقاذ حٌاة راكبة لبنانٌة تعرضت لوعكة صحٌة مفاجئة وأصٌبت بحالة إغماء وتم عالجها على الطائرة. قالت مصادر مالحٌة بالمطار إن برج المراقبة تلقى إشارة من قائد طائرة لبنانٌة، قادمة من شرم الشٌخ ومتجهة إلى بٌروتٌ ،طلب الهبوط اضطرارٌا بالمطار وإحضار طبٌب حجر صحً وسٌارة إسعاف ،لتعرض راكبة لبنانٌة لوعكة صحٌة، وتم السماح له بالهبوط ،وتوجه طاقم طبً إلى الطائرة بأرض المهبط ،وتم عمل اإلسعافات الالزمة لها.

"االتحاد" تبلغ طٌارٌها بإمكانٌة إعارتهم لمنافستها "طٌران اإلمارات”
أبلغت شركة االتحاد للطٌران طٌارٌها أنهم ٌستطٌعون االنضمام لمنافستها طٌران اإلمارات بشكل موقت لمدة عامٌن ،فً رسالة إلكترونٌة داخلٌة اطلعت علٌها "روٌترز" ،لٌسهم تقلٌص عملٌات الشركة التً مقرها أبوظبً فً سد نقص الطٌارٌن لدى "طٌران اإلمارات" فً دبً. وتعكف "االتحاد" ،التً أعلنت األسبوع الماضً أنها منٌت بخسائر سنوٌة 1.5ملٌار دوالر، على إصالح عملٌاتها منذ 2016وغٌرت كبار المسؤولٌن التنفٌذٌٌن وتخلت عن مسارات غٌر رابحة وقلصت أسطولها. ومن المرجح أن ٌساعد االتفاق طٌران اإلمارات التً اضطرت إللغاء بعض الرحالت هذا الصٌف بسبب نقص الطٌارٌن .وكانت إدارة الشركة قالت إن العجز مشكلة قصٌرة األجل. وقالت "االتحاد" فً رسالتها اإللكترونٌة ،إن الطٌارٌن المعارٌن لطٌران اإلمارات لمدة عامٌن س ٌُمنحون إجازة مع االحتفاظ بأقدمٌتهم فً االتحاد ،والحصول على أجورهم وكامل المزاٌا من طٌران اإلمارات. وطلبت الرسالة من الطٌارٌن تسجٌل إبداء اهتمام غٌر ملزم ،وقالت إن فرٌق توظٌف من طٌران اإلمارات سٌجري مقابالت مع الطٌارٌن فً مكاتب االتحاد. وقال مصدران ،إن االتحاد بعثت برسالة إلكترونٌة للعاملٌن فٌها لتبلغهم باالتفاق مع طٌران اإلمارات. وأكد متحدث باسم االتحاد ،أن برنامج اإلعارة ممارسة معتادة بٌن شركات الطٌران تتٌح اإلدارة الفعالة للطٌارٌن .وأضاف أنه سبق لالتحاد أن فعلت نفس الشًء لعدة سنوات مع شركات طٌران شرٌكة فً أنحاء العالم.

اإلمارات تقدم خطة تقلٌل االنبعاثات فً الطٌران لـ «اإلٌكاو»
قدمت الهٌئة العامة للطٌران المدنً الخطة الوطنٌة للتقلٌل من االنبعاثات فً قطاع الطٌران المدنً إلى «اإلٌكاو» فً مونتلاير بكندا .وتأتً هذه النسخة الشاملة من الخطة بعد الخطة المبدئٌة التً قامت الدولة بتقدٌمها فً عام .2012لتكون بذلك أول دولة فً المنطقة تقوم بذلك ملتزمة بدعمها الدائم للمنظمة فً األهداف البٌئٌة. قال المهندس سٌف السوٌدي ،رئٌس الهٌئة العامة للطٌران المدنً :إن أهمٌة البٌئة وتأثٌرها المباشر ٌعتبران من األولوٌات أكثر من أي وقت مضى لما لهما من تأثٌر مباشر على النمو االقتصادي ومستقبل الجٌل القادم ،إنه من اعتقادنا أنه ٌجب علٌنا جمٌعا وبالتعاون مع جمٌع المنظمات الدولٌة العمل على الحد من التأثٌر البٌئً للطٌران .وقد أظهرت منظمة الطٌران المدنً الدولً جهدا هائال فً إقامة الورش ومنح التدرٌب الالزم لبناء القدرات ،وإقامة عدد من المشارٌع البٌئٌة ووضع أنظمة مستقبلٌة مقبلة ،وكإحدى الدول األعضاء فً هذه المنظمة فإننا نؤمن بالدور الحٌوي لهذه المنظمة فً دعم نمو القطاع«. باإلضافة إلى ذلك ،قدمت الهٌئة العامة للطٌران المدنً نسخة من الخطة إلى وزٌر التغٌر المناخً والبٌئة لتكون مرجعٌة مهمة فً وضع االستراتٌجٌات والخطط المستقبلٌة للدولة المتعلقة بتغٌر المناخ.

2 وتعلٌقا ً على إعداد وتقدٌم الخطة قال الدكتور ثانً بن أحمد الزٌودي ،وزٌر التغٌر المناخً والبٌئة: «إن دولة اإلمارات تحتل مكانة عالمٌة بارزة فً قطاع الطٌران ،وتعد استراتٌجٌتها لهذا القطاع نموذجا ً رائداً لمفهوم وتطبٌقات الطٌران المستدام ،مشٌرا إلى أن« :الجهود التً تبذلها الهٌئة العامة للطٌران المدنً تعزز من القدرة التنافسٌة للدولة فً هذا القطاع بشكل دائم ،وتضع خارطة طرٌق واضحة للشركات العاملة فً هذا القطاع بما ٌحقق المزٌد من صداقة البٌئة واالستدامة». وأضاف« :إطالق اإلصدار من خطة العمل البٌئٌة فً مجال الطٌران ٌمثل إنجازا وخطوة جدٌدة فً مسٌرة تعزٌز تنافسٌة الدولة وخلق قطاع طٌران أكثر استدامة». وفً نفس الصدد قال سٌف محمد السوٌدي مدٌر عام الهٌئة العامة للطٌران المدنً« :لقد أظهرت اإلمارات مشاركة فعالة فً أعمال وأهداف»اإلٌكاو«فً السنوات الماضٌة فً األعمال والمشارٌع التً من شأنها تحقٌق األهداف البٌئٌة ،وخاصة تغٌر المناخ .إننا نواصل دعمنا فً هذا األمر خلف قادتنا الذٌن وضعوا الحد من التأثٌر البٌئً كواحد من أهم أهداف الدولة». وتابع قائالً «إن صٌاغة خطة عمل الدولة واالتفاق علٌها استغرق ما ٌقارب ال 6أعوام ،بدءا بالتخطٌط ،وتنفٌذ المشروع ،آخذٌن فً االعتبار طبٌعة القطاع وحساسٌته ،والتً تختلف عن أٌة دولة أخرى فً المنطقة .ونحن فخورون إذ تمكن الفرٌق من إنهاء الوثٌقة والمراجعة فً عام ،2016والحقا ً إجراء جولة أخرى من المراجعة فً عام 2018واعتمادها نهائٌا لتسلم للمنظمة» ولقد شملت الوثٌقة البٌانات األساسٌة كخط أساسً مستندا على بٌانات تارٌخٌة لعام ،2012وعمل دراسة توقعٌة لمعدل الزٌادة والنمو لغاٌة عام .2050 قامت الدولة من خالل الهٌئة العامة للطٌران المدنً بتشكٌل مجموعة عمل ،تتألف من جمٌع أصحاب المصلحة االستراتٌجٌٌن الرئٌسٌٌن من الحكومات المحلٌة وشركات الطٌران والمطارات ومطوري المشارٌع والوزارات المعنٌة وقطاعات الكربون التً عملت على التفاصٌل والنسخة الشاملة منذ عام 2013حتى الٌوم. باإلضافة إلى ذلك ،تم وضع عدد من السٌنارٌوهات ألجل التقلٌل من االنبعاثات وبٌان كٌف ٌمكن للقطاع االستثمار فً عدد من المشارٌع الجدٌدة للحد من هذا التأثٌر والتقلٌل من االنبعاثات. ولقد كان المشروع رحلة تعلم للقطاع ،للتعرف على أهم التحدٌات المستقبلٌة ،والمشارٌع والخطط التً ستكون تحت المراجعة إلصدار النسخة الثالثة من الخطة الوطنٌة فً المستقبل. وتفخر الدولة فً اختٌارها على مستوى الشرق األوسط لتكون ضمن مشروع االختبار المصغر لمسودة النظام العالمً آللٌات السوق للتقلٌل من االنبعاثات مع ست دول أخرى من المناطق اإلقلٌمٌة األخرى .وقد كان المشروع تحت إشراف المنظمة الدولٌة للطٌران المدنً وبمساعدة من جهات متخصصة من ألمانٌا .استمر المشروع لستة أشهر وقد أسهم كثٌرا فً مساعدة اثنتٌن من شركات الطٌران الوطنٌة لدٌنا»،فالي دبً«و»العربٌة» لمراجعة إجراءاتهم الداخلٌة وتحسٌنها بما ٌتناسب مع تطبٌق النظام ومتطلبات نظام المراقبة

"فضٌحة" فً شركة طٌران إسرائٌلٌة
تواجه شركة طٌران العال اإلسرائٌلٌة فضٌحة تمٌٌز جدٌدة ،بعد نقلها راكبتٌن تحت ضغط من مسافرٌن ٌهود متشددٌن رفضوا الجلوس إلى جوارهما. وجرت الواقعة خالل رحلة طٌران من نٌوٌورك إلى تل أبٌب نهاٌة األسبوع الماضً ،وفق ما ذكرت وكالة أسوشٌٌتد برس. وقالت العال فً بٌان صدر األحد ،إن التمٌٌز ضد الركاب "محظور" ،وإنها تقوم بكل ما فً وسعها لخدمة "نطاق واسع من المسافرٌن والشعوب". فً 2016أقٌمت دعوى مشابهة ضد شركة الطٌران من راكبة .وحكمت المحكمة العلٌا بأن الطلب من الراكبة تغٌٌر مقعدها بناء على جنسٌتها هو شكل من أشكال التمٌٌز. واتهم مركز العمل الدٌنً ،وهً مجموعة تقدمٌة أقامت دعوى العام الماضً، شركة الطٌران باإلخالل بالتزاماتها.

تواجه شركة طٌران العال اإلسرائٌلٌة فضٌحة تمٌٌز جدٌدة ،بعد نقلها راكبتٌن تحت ضغط من مسافرٌن ٌهود متشددٌن رفضوا الجلوس إلى جوارهما. وجرت الواقعة خالل رحلة طٌران من نٌوٌورك إلى تل أبٌب نهاٌة األسبوع الماضً ،وف ما ذكرت وكالة أسوشٌٌتد برس. وقالت العال فً بٌان صدر األحد ،إن التمٌٌز ضد الركاب "محظور" ،وإنها تقوم بكل ما فً وسعها لخدمة "نطاق واسع من المسافرٌن والشعوب". فً 2016أقٌمت دعوى مشابهة ضد شركة الطٌران من راكبة .وحكمت المحكمة العلٌا بأن الطلب من الراكبة تغٌٌر مقعدها بناء على جنسٌتها هو شكل من أشكال التمٌٌز. واتهم مركز العمل الدٌنً ،وهً مجموعة تقدمٌة أقامت دعوى العام الماضً، شركة الطٌران باإلخالل بالتزاماتها.

Ethiopian Airlines to start flights to Barcelona from July 1 Ethiopian Airlines, the largest Aviation Group in Africa and SKYTRAX certified Four Star Global Airline, has finalized preparations to launch new flight services to Barcelona, Spain from Sunday, July 1, 2018. In this regard, the ultra-modern B787– 800 Dreamliner would be deployed. A statement issued in Accra by Mrs Aniley Eshetu, Assistant Manager Corporate Communications, Ethiopian Airlines, said Barcelona, the capital and largest city of Catalonia and the second most populous municipality of Spain, was also the second largest trade fair and exhibition centre in Europe. Mr Tewolde GebreMariam, Ethiopian Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer said: ―We are very happy to spread our wings to Barcelona, which will be our second destination in Spain, after Madrid, and the 13th city in our European network.‖ He said the start of the new flight to Barcelona was part of the global route network expansion plan in line with the strategic roadmap, Vision 2025. He said the new flight to Barcelona would provide seamless connectivity options for business people as well as tourists from Barcelona to their extensive African network of 58 destinations via their main hub in Addis Ababa.

Norwegian Air resumes flights with increased service from the U.S. to Martinique Norwegian announced 3 major news; following successful winter seasons from the North East Coast to Martinique, Norwegian is increasing its U.S. winter seasonal routes to Martinique: The Fort Lauderdale to Martinique service will resume on October 31, 2018, with four flights weekly. It represents an increase from three flights per week during winter 2017/18. The New York-JFK to Martinique service will resume on October 28, 2018, with six flights, two flights more than the previous seaon. The award winning airline also announced a new four times weekly route from Martinique to Cayenne in French Guiana. The winter seasonal service from Martinique to Cayenne – Felix Eboue Airport Cayenne will launch on October 31, 2018, and operate four times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Another major news is that Norwegian Air is also opening a new route from Canada; the airline will launch seasonal service from Montreal, to Martinique Aime Cesaire International Airport on November 1, 2018, and operate three times per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Launch fares start as low as $219 CAD one-way, including taxes and will operate during the winter season until end of March, 2019.

Plane of Turkish air company made emergency landing in Atyrau
Almaty. June 25. KazTAG - A plane of Pegasus company made an emergency landing in Aktau following engine failure, reports the civil aviation committee of the Ministry of Investments and Development. "Boeing 737 of Pegasus company which was en route Novosibirsk-Antalya reported about engine failure on Sunday at 10.03. The plane made emergency landing in the airport of Atyrau," reads the message. There were 190 passengers and 6 crew members aboard, the plane successfully landed at 10.20.

IATA DG: Govts shouldn’t use airports’ privatisation to raise fund Alexandre de Juniac is a Frenchbusinessman. He previously served as the Chair and CEO of Air France (2011-2013) and later as CEO of Air France–KLM (2013-2016). He is also the current Director General and CEO of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). He spoke to WOLE SHADARE at the just-concluded IATA AGM in Sydney, Australia on issues affecting aviation, including the good news that Nigeria had cleared $600 million airlines’ blocked funds, among other issues. Excerpts. What do you see as trends and challenges for African aviation? The implementation of Air Traffic Management is one of them. The second is to maintain the safety at the level they have reached. The third one is to be able to structure some solid regional airlines in some parts of the continent such as West Africa and Central Africa. These should be important. We have one or two of our staff that are key members and are trying to consolidate their position. It is important for Africa to modernise its airports. We have some issues in terms of infrastructure that are not sorted out

2 There is need for improvement in Nigeria, Egypt and so on. The opportunities for aviation are great, but so are the challenges. Many carriers struggle to break-even. Some challenges are beyond our control — the appreciation of the US dollar for example. But governments should be aware that Africa is a highcost place for aviation. Taxes, fuel and infrastructure charges are higher than the global average. Additionally, insufficient safety oversight, failures to follow global standards and restrictive air service agreements could all add to the burden that stands in the way of aviation’s economic and social benefits. Countries are making efforts to have their national airlines; do you in any way support it? For us, we do not advocate or not in favour of national airlines. In IATA, we say Africa needs connectivity. Africa needs to have what I call regional airlines. Big regions in Africa are not covered. In some cases, you may need to first go to Europe to be able to connect another African country. That is very important. From my point of view, it is something lacking in Africa. In West Africa for instance, it is quicker to move to Paris than to move from one African country to another. It is not totally normal. Airlines in Africa are small and fragmented, what is IATA doing to assist African airlines? For the small airlines in Africa, we do assist. First of all, we have them in safety through IOSA audit. We do consulting on some specific areas. Two areas, which IATA will invest heavily, are training and consulting.

3 Airlines’ trapped funds. How much are these trapped funds? We in IATA call on governments to abide by international agreements and treaty obligations to enable airlines repatriate revenues from ticket sales and other activities. The amount of airline funds blocked from repatriation totalled $44.9 billion at the end of 2017, which was down seven per cent compared to yearend 2016. However, airline funds remained blocked in some 16 countries. In Nigeria, it is cleared. The connectivity provided by aviation is vital to economic growth and development. Aviation supports jobs and trades and helps people to lead better lives. But airlines need to have confidence that they will be able to repatriate their revenues in order to bring these benefits to markets. We have had some recent success. The $600 million backlog in Nigeria has been cleared. We have made $120 million of progress from a peak of over $500 million in Angola. I encouraged the government of Angola to work with airlines to help reduce this backlog further. Given the deepening economic crisis in Venezuela, a resolution appears to be unlikely in the short term. But we are encouraged by the recent development in Nigeria and Angola and hope other states will also move quickly to address blocked funds. What are your takes on reduction of traffic for Middle East Airlines? You know that the Middle East airlines’ traffic is yet to recover. Since 2017, they have been recovering. Our expectation for 2018 is that they would do something between 2.5 per cent of .5 per cent of profit, which is lower than any other region, but better than last year. There is average profit for Middle East 2.5 per cent.

4 Just recenty, IATA talked about 20 per cent increase in jet fuel. Brent crude is going for average $75, is that not going to impact the industry that is expected to make profit of $33.8 billion this year? You are right to say that at the beginning of the year, we were projecting $38 billion and we have reduced that slightly to $33.8 billion mainly due to increased oil price. What do you recommend should be applied to cushion the shock of crude oil rising price considering how it would affect global Gross Domestic Product (GDP)? We have always said that the average margin of the industry, which is 4.1 per cent for the industry is a good figure, but it is still a revealing longevity in this sector because there is a buffer to cope with shocks. We can say that we are proud in the fourth year in a role returning capital on investment. Good news, but we are still not very profitable if you compare it with other sectors. Also, if we take it into account, we are exposed to many things. One of them is volcano and nuclear plant. The impact of the fuel increase for the moment is not very significant. The industry has significantly improved with its resilient force probably having more cautious policy.

5 If it continues to rise, it will impact our account. In addition, up till now, the airlines have not translated the increase in their prices. In the moment, we do not see a significant impact; there will probably be an impact if fuel continues to increase. There are things that IATA cannot intervene. Of course, we have nothing to do about that. The crisis in Qatar is about a year; many people thought it is going to last for weeks, months over fifth freedom. IATA always talk of freedom in aviation. People are restricted. They cannot fly. How would this situation be remedied? There are two things. First of all, it is a big political issue. IATA is not a political organisation and we cannot comment on that. The only thing that we can say is that because we are defending the business of aviation, we want connectivity to be maintained between Qatar and the rest of the world. We are firm advocate of connectivity between Qatar and rest of the world. The issue of airports privatisation came up at the IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM); in Africa and even in my country Nigeria, government is talking about concession. What I heard here is not too cheery of how governments go about it, which is suspect. In what area do you think this could be a win-win situation for everyone – government and travellers? We are facing a capacity crisis -majority of airports are already facing capacity constraints. Governments struggle to move quickly and the cash-strapped state of their finances is fuelling a trend of looking to the private sector for solution. What I will say is that we tell governments to be cautious about privatisation. It is not the only magic solution.

6 If you look at increasing capacity and investing in airports, they attract private people for so many reasons. Your own (Nigeria’s) public finances are in difficulty. You need to look at other measures before you rush to privatise airports. There are several methods. If you go to privatisation, follow some guidelines in the process of privatising. The dos and the don’ts of privatisation and thirdly, implement a strong regulation, fair, strong and balanced, in which case, the voice of the airlines must be taken into account. Some of the airports are considered to be very expensive, especially in Senegal, how do we bridge this? High taxes have the capacity to hurt air travel, how do we tackle this? I always tell governments in Africa to lower taxes if they want to develop aviation in the continent, otherwise people won’t come to your airport. In the Gulf State and Qatar in Abu Dhabi, they have developed very strong aviation strategy and they are successful in coming to that with a very low tax and charges Airlines in the Middle East have been coming with low taxes/charges. Airlines’ traffic and GDP amounts to growth and jobs. We are urging governments to lower taxes and charges everywhere. Africa is seen as the next frontier in aviation and business, do you think the continent is rightly positioned for the potential in aviation? In fact, I see Africa as the region with the greatest aviation potential. Over a billion people are spread across this vast continent. And aviation is uniquely placed to link Africa’s economic opportunities, connecting the continent internally and to the rest of the world. Doing so expands prosperity and changes peoples’.

7 lives for the better. Of course, you don’t need me to tell you about the continent’s great promise. Already, aviation supports $72.5 billion in economic activity and 6.8 million jobs here. And the scale of aviation’s footprint in Africa is estimated to quadruple over the next two decades. By 2035, the number of passengers traveling to, from or within Africa could reach 300 million. The impact of that growth in supporting the UN’s Sustainable Development goals will be tremendous. This includes the challenging goal of eradicating poverty – that still afflicts 400 million people in Africa – by 2030. And the development of aviation will facilitate improvement in the key challenges of healthcare and education as well. Safety is an issue in the continent, are you satisfied with air safety in Africa vis a vis global air safety record? Let’s start with safety – our number one priority. Last year, subSaharan Africa had no passenger fatalities or jet hull losses. Committing to the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) improves safety. The results speak for themselves. The accident rate of 33 sub-Saharan airlines on the IOSA registry was half that of those not on the registry. Globally, we are making progress on safety. In 2017, for the second time in three years, there were no passenger fatalities in accidents on jet operations in about 34.9 million flights. That’s an amazing result. The recent Cubana crash, however, was a human tragedy that sharpens our determination to make our safe industry even safer. Accident investigation is an important tool in that quest. Fully completed investigations drive safety improvement. We insist on these with governments. But with just 45 accidents of any description last year, we must also use other sources to guide us forward
