شبح اإلفالس ٌطارد الخطوط الجوٌة القطرٌة تواجه شركة الخطوط الجوٌة القطرٌة ،شبح اإلفالس على الرغم من تسرٌحها مئات الموظفٌن فً وقت سابق من شهر مارس الجاري. وحذر الرئٌس التنفٌذي لشركة الخطوط الجوٌة القطرٌة ،أكبر الباكر ،الٌوم األحد ،من نفاد السٌولة فً وقت قرٌب ،مضٌفا أن "لدٌنا ما ٌكفٌنا من السٌولة لفترة قصٌرة جدا" ،حسبما ذكرت وكالة "روٌترز". وأوضح أن "الشركة ستضطر فً النهاٌة إلى طلب الدعم من مالكها (الحكومة القطرٌة)".

وأعلنت وزارة الصحة القطرٌة ،أمس السبت ،تسجٌل أول حالة وفاة بفٌروس "كورونا" المستجد ،المسبب لمرض (كوفٌد.)19- وذكرت الوزارة أن حالة الوفاة تعود لمقٌم من بنجالدٌشٌ ،بلغ من العمر 57عاما، وكان ٌعانً من أمراض مزمنة. وكانت الوزارة قد أعلنت ،ارتفاع عدد اإلصابات بفٌروس "كورونا" المستجد بالدولة إلى 562حالة. وصنفت منظمة الصحة العالمٌةٌ ،وم 11مارس الجاري ،فٌروس كورونا المستجد المسبب لمرض "كوفٌد " ،"19وباء عالمٌا" ،فً الوقت الذي تجاوز فٌه عدد المصابٌن بالفٌروس جمٌع التوقعات. وبلغت آخر إحصاءات تجاوز العدد اإلجمالً للمصابٌن بفٌروس كورونا فً جمٌع أنحاء العالم 666ألف شخصا ،كما تجاوز عدد الوفٌات 31ألفا ،وبلغ عدد المتعافٌن قرابة 143ألف شخص.

AirBaltic Flies Nearly 7 Hour Airbus A220 Aid Flight byChris Loh Commercial passenger airlines all over the world are contributing their resources in the fight against the COVID19 pandemic. airBaltic is no exception to this. Yesterday, the carrier flew one of its Airbus A220-300s from Riga (Latvia) to Urumqi (China) to transport vital medical supplies which will be used in Latvia. airBaltic operates one of the largest fleets of Airbus A220 jets
Operated by an A220-300 with registration YL-CSI, airBaltic’s flight covered 4,815 kms each way. The return journey took six hours and 35 minutes to complete, according to the airline’s Twitter post on the event. The outbound flight had a flight number of BT9811 while the return journey had flight number BT7901.

Unusual routes for unusual times During this unprecedented global emergency, we are seeing some truly strange routes being operated by airlines that would normally not fly to such destinations. A few examples include: Wizz Air flying from Hungary to China via Kazakhstan and Russia: The flight helped to deliver 11 tons of medical equipment including protective gear and test kits. Lufthansa flying from Frankfurt to Auckland via Tokyo: This flight was an effort to repatriate stranded German citizens who were otherwise unable to return to Germany. Aer Lingus operating a service from Dublin to Beijing. This operation will include multiple flights using volunteer pilots. Supplies being shipped include ventilators, masks, goggles, testing kits and more. These are just a few examples of interesting routes as airlines work to either repatriate stranded citizens or collect and distribute vital medical supplies for critical frontline health care workers. As China is one of the world’s largest countries for manufacturing various supplies, we can expect to see a lot of airlines sending their underutilized aircraft to the country for supply runs.

By doing so and making sure health care workers have essential life-saving medical equipment, it means more lives can be saved. As face masks are single-use items, medical workers have been burning through the item at a rapid speed. In fact, some cities have reported such severe shortages of face masks that workers have had to re-use what they have which poses a health risk. With airlines stepping in to keep supply chains moving, this will hopefully ensure that a sufficient supply of face masks and other equipment will get to the health care workers who desperately need it.

Wow: Austrian Airlines Flies Direct Boeing 777 Vienna To Sydney Flight byLaura Ash Austrian Airlines is currently undertaking the longest flight it has ever operated in more than 60 years. The European airline is flying from Vienna to Sydney today on a repatriation mission. The flight will arrive at around 03:30 UTC tomorrow morning. Austrian Airlines repatriates nationals from Sydney.
Like many airlines around the world, Austrian Airlines is particularly keen to work with its home government in order to repatriate its nationals. Today, Austrian Airlines is undertaking a gargantuan task of flying Austrian citizens back from Oceania. A Boeing 777-200 from the Austrian fleet is, at the time of writing, flying over the Caspian Sea on its way to Sydney.

The Boeing aircraft, registered OE-LPD, left Vienna on the morning of 29th March at 09:31 UTC. It will take 17 hours for the aircraft to fly the non-stop distance all the way to Sydney – a distance of over 16,000km. The Austrian Airlines flight will touch down at Sydney Airport around 03:30 on 30th March. Austrians will be flown back to Vienna on OE-LPD, a Boeing 777-200.

Austrian‟s Boeing 777 flies other long-haul routes In fact, Austrian’s latest direct flight is much longer than the longest route on its normal schedule. In April 2017, nearly three years ago, the airline inaugurated a route between Vienna International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport. The route covers over 9,800km and has a total flight time of 12 hours and 15 minutes. It is also flown by a Boeing 777-200 but remarkably the route between Vienna and Sydney will require an additional 6,200km from the aircraft as well as nearly five extra hours of flight time. That said, the 777’s range specification makes it an excellent choice for this direct flight. The aircraft’s journey will be much longer than the current longest scheduled flight.

, however, the return journey for the 777 will not be direct. Instead, the aircraft will be stopping in Penang International Airport in Malaysia. A spokesperson for Austrian Airlines told Simple Flying why:
“In Penang, we will change the crew, refuel and try to pick up some cargo (medical goods like protective gloves, which are produced by Semperit-Group(.” Head of Corporate Communications at the airline, Peter Thier continued to say that the turnout for the flight was expected to be high. He said:
“We currently assume that the flight from Sydney will be fully occupied. The capacity of this flight is 290 passengers (306 seats minus 16 crew members(.” Austrian Airlines is heavily involved in repatriation On 30th March, Austrian Airlines will take its passengers back to Vienna. The aircraft will leave Sydney Airport at 23:15 UTC on that day and arrive at Penang International Airport at 07:55 UTC the following day. The flight will wait just over one and a half hours as crews load the aircraft with supplies before it completes the final leg of the journey. The aircraft will leave Penang International airport at 09:35 UTC and arrive at Vienna at 21:35 UTC the same day.

However, this trip is just one of many that Austrian Airlines has carried out to repatriate nationals. Mr. Thier told us that since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, 21 repatriation flights had been carried out. Qantas pilots vote in favour of Project Sunrise pay deal Qantas long-haul pilots have voted in favour of a deal on pay and conditions for Project Sunrise flights. The deal means existing Qantas long-haul pilots will fly Airbus A350s if an order is made for the ultra-long-haul project, Australia‟s biggest airline says in a statement. Project Sunrise is the airline‟s initiative to open nonstop services to the Australian east coast from New York and London from around 2022-23. The carrier had threatened to bypass unions in February, saying that it would negotiate directly with individual pilots or create a “new employment entity”, if it could not come to an agreement with the Australian and International Pilots Association (AIPA). Qantas said today that over 1,400 pilots voted on the deal, with 85% in favour. “The vote came at a difficult time but it‟s also important to keep looking ahead,” Qantas chief pilot Dick Tobiano states. Qantas has placed tentative orders for up to a dozen A350-1000s for Project Sunrise. Airbus has also agreed order,” he promises.

Thai A350 descended below 670ft while still far from Frankfurt runway By David Kaminski have detailed an approach incident in which a Thai Airways Airbus A350-900 descended to less than 670ft above ground while still nearly 6.5nm from touchdown at Frankfurt Main. The aircraft (HS-THF) had been inbound from Phuket, at night but in good visibility, on 1 January. While descending through 7,300ft, the crew was instructed to increase the descent rate. Approach control subsequently clearing the flight to 3,000ft and then to a heading of 040°, at 170kt or faster, to conducted the ILS approach to runway 07R.

At nearly 6.5nm from the threshold the jet should have been at around 2,100ft German investigation authority BFU states that the crew started extending flaps at 6,000ft and lowered the landing-gear at 5,100ft. At this point the A350‟s rate of descent was around 2,000ft/min, and the rate of descent “increased continuously” as the twinjet reached the 07R base leg and descended through 4,000ft. Flight-data recorder information indicates the descent rates reached 3,500ft/min. An automatic 2,500ft altitude announcement sounded and the autopilot was disengaged at this point. BFU indicates that, some 20s later, the cockpit-voice recorder picked up two „sink rate‟ alerts and then an automated 1,000ft call-out and a glideslope warning. The first officer, who was flying, ordered a go-around and the captain transmitted this decision to Frankfurt tower – the first radio contact the crew had made with tower controllers. BFU says the aircraft had descended to 936ft altitude,

the equivalent of 668ft above ground, while still 6.43nm from the runway threshold. This is far below the 2,100ft above ground normally expected at this distance for an aircraft following a typical 3° glideslope. BFU says the A350 subsequently carried out a second ILS approach to 07R. As it crossed the same minimumheight point of the previous approach, 6.43nm from the runway, the aircraft was at 2,238ft. It touched down without further event about 14min after commencing the go-around. The first officer had 1,500h on A350s out of 4,000h total, says the inquiry, while the captain had 8,000h total with 400h on type. Two additional pilots had been in the cockpit at the time of the incident. Investigators have yet to publish conclusions on the circumstances of the incident.
