Investigators Retrieve Cockpit Voice Recordings From EgyptAir Wreckage When an EgyptAir flight crashed in May, investigators thought the voice recordings from the cockpit would probably not be very useful due to damage to the black box. But those same investigators have now backtracked, announcing Saturday that they were able to retrieve the voice recordings after all. ―None of the memory chips of the electronic board were damaged. Test results were satisfactory as (they) enabled the reading of the recorders of the CVR memory unit,‖ Egyptian investigators said, before vowing to bring the recorder to Cairo for further analysis. EgyptAir 804 was a direct flight from Paris to Cairo, but it crashed into the Mediterranean May 19 after disappearing from the radar between Crete and the Egyptian coast. The pilots never made a distress call and none of the 66 passengers survived. As of now, no radical groups have taken credit for the crash, so French and Egyptian authorities have resisted calling it an act of terrorism at this point. While search teams continue to look through the wreckage deep below sea level, the plane’s data recorder indicates there was smoke in the lavatory and onboard equipment and the investigation has turned up heat damage. Foul play has not been proven but is strongly suspected since radar data shows the plane was cruising normally in clear skies before it suddenly turned 90 degrees left, spun 360 degrees to the right, and then plummeted from 38,000 feet to 15,000 feet before disappearing for good when it reached 10,000 feet.

A Singapore Airlines Boeing 777 was forced to make an emergency landing in Singapore. The aircraft has been in service for 9 years and was supposed to fly to Milan on the 27thof June 2016. 222 passengers and 19 crew members were on board. Two hours into the flight, a warning light signaling oil loss on the right engine came on in the cockpit. The pilots then decided to turn around and go back to land at Singapore’s Changi International Airport. However, as soon as they touched the ground, the right engine burst into flames, forcing the B777 to stay put. Huge flames rose up whilst thick black smoke escaped from the engine. The outbreak was quickly contained by the fire fighters on site. Passengers and crew were evacuated and no one was injured. This incident is similar to two others that have occured in the United States. On the 8thSeptember 2015, the left engine of a British Airways Boeing 777 caught fire whilst the plane was about to take off from Las Vegas (Nevada) airport. Again, on the 29th October 2015, a Dynamic Airways Boeing 767 caught fire at Fort Lauderdale (in Florida) shortly after takeoff.

AIRLINES THAT ARE ILLEGAL IN EUROPEAN AIRSPACE Europe is very strict about the carriers that are allowed to carry visitors there. The airlines that are not allowed are those that do not meet the set regulations of the European Union. The current updated list of carriers that should not operate in Europe was put up on 16th June 2016. The criteria for restricting airlines is clearly set by the European Parliament and Council. Members of the EU meet and consult with the appropriate authorities to determine if a carrier meets the requirements of the union. In 2016, the EU lifted bans on airlines such as Iranian Air, Malagasy Air, Indonesian Lion, all Zambian flights, Citilink, and Batik Air. Many airlines are still banned from the region. All flights from countries such as Afghanistan, DRC, Republic of Congo, Benin, Eritrea, Djibouti, Liberia, Mozambique, Sudan, Libya, and Sierra Leone are not allowed to fly into European airspace. Some other countries have few airlines that can go to Europe while others in the same countries are prohibited. The Annex B List This list contains the airlines that are allowed to take only specific types of air crafts in the European Union. The airlines can lease airplanes from permitted carriers and put traffic rights to use. EU allows this with the condition that the planes operate within the set safety standards. The airlines also require having an air license that has been given in their respective countries. Airlines included in Annex B include; all Boeing 777 and 737-700aircraft from Angola, all planes except Fokker 100 and Boeing 747 from Iran. One Let L-410 Turbolet with registration number D6-CAM from Comoros, two Dassault Falcon 50 registered TR-LGV and TR-LGY from Gabon, and few planes from North Korea, Gabon, and South Africa. The list keeps changing according to how the airlines work to meet the set requirements of the European Union. The bans are put up to aid European countries to ensure the security of their borders and also to make sure that the people coming into the country are trustworthy individuals who will not refuse to go back to their homes. The regulations by EU also seek to ensure that the airlines operate with the required professionalism that guarantees the safety of the passengers and the countries they are flying. European countries such as Germany and Spain have also received cautions about a few of the airlines operating there.

http://www.news.com.au/ Investigators say voice recording from EgyptAir crash intact THE memory chips of EgyptAir 804’s black box voice recorder are intact and investigators should be able to access it, a committee probing the plane disaster said on Saturday. The other black box, a data recorder that had also been retrieved from the bottom of the Mediterranean after the aircraft plunged into the sea, has already been accessed. It had confirmed that smoke alarms had sounded in the Airbus A320 before it went down on May 19, while flying from Paris to Cairo with 66 people on board. The voice recorder is being repaired at the French accident investigation agency. ―None of the memory chips of the electronic board was damaged,‖ the Egyptian-led probe said in a statement. Other circuitry had to be replaced, however. ―After the replacement of the ... board components, test results were satisfactory and it enabled the reading of the recorders,‖ the statement said. Investigators said last week that the plane’s wreckage showed signs of fire while the data recorder confirmed smoke alarms had been activated. They had previously announced that the plane’s automated Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) sent signals indicating smoke alarms on board the plane before it went down. The plane was carrying 40 Egyptians, 15 French, two Iraqis, two Canadians and one passenger each from Algeria, Belgium, Britain, Chad, Portugal, Saudi Arabia and Sudan.

http://www.daijiworld.com/ Air India aircraft rams aerobridge at Mumbai airport Mumbai, Jul 2 (IANS): An Air India flight which arrived from Riyadh rammed into an aerobridge at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport here on Friday afternoon, officials said. Official sources that when the incoming flight (AI 922 Riyadh-Mumbai) was being guided to the parking bay for discharging the approximately 330 passengers, it hit the aerobridge outside the international arrival hall. There were no casualties either among the operators, the ground staff and the passengers, but the left engine sustained minor damage and the Boeing 777-300 airplane has been towed away to a hangar for repairs. The incident sparked off a blame game between Air India and Mumbai International Airport Ltd with both pointing fingers at each other. The AI claimed that while parking the aircraft at the arrival bay, the MIAL displayed wrong information, which was not compatible with the particular model, and the left engine banged into the aerobridge. However, MIAL categorically denied this and said the aircraft was being guided to the parking bay by AI staff when it collided.

http://www.independent.co.uk/ EgyptAir crash: Investigators confident they will be able to access voice recordings from flight MS804 Investigators will be able to access cockpit voice recordings of theEgyptAir plane which crashed in May, officials have said. The black box flight data recorders on board Flight MS804suffered damage when the plane came down and investigators had previously encountered difficulties downloading data from the devices. What caused the plane to fall into the Mediterranean on 19 May is currently unknown. But, if successfully obtained, the audio files could provide a crucial insight into what caused the crash, which killed all 66 people on board. "None of the memory chips of the electronic board were damaged," said Egyptian investigators involved in the examination of the device in France, adding that only some connecting components had to be replaced. "Test results were satisfactory as [they] enabled the reading of the recorders of the CVR memory unit," they added. The Egyptian team now plans to bring the recorders to Cairo for further analysis. Some other clues have already been yielded by the black boxes. Seven minutes before contact was lost with the plane, a sequence of messages indicated numerous hazards on board. They were transmitted automatically using the plane's ACARS messaging system. The first message, sent at 2.26am Cairo time, read: ―ANTI ICE R WINDOW‖, indicating a problem with the heater for the co-pilot’s window. Six more messages followed in the next three minutes – two about window sensors and two mentioning smoke.

The final two messages, sent within seconds of each other at 2.29am, read ―AUTO FLT FCU 2 FAULT‖ and ―F/CTL SEC 3 FAULT‖, indicating problems with the autopilot and the flight control system respectively. Four minutes later, the aircraft’s transponder made its last broadcast, relaying details of the aircraft and its location before it crashed. Data from the flight recorder showed there was smoke in the lavatory and onboard equipment, and investigators have said they found heat damage on parts of the wreckage recovered from the Mediterranean sea floor last month. Radar data also showed the aircraft had been cruising normally in clear skies on its flight from Paris to Cairo before it turned 90 degrees left, then spun 360 degrees to the right as it plummeted from 38,000 feet to 15,000 feet. It disappeared when it was at an altitude of about 10,000 feet. The bulk of the wreckage is believed to be at a depth of about 3,000 meters. Deep ocean search teams are still working to find and recover human remains.
