A Year of Growth, Resilience, and Excellence
DEAR SCHECK HILLEL FAMILIES,
With pride and gratitude, I share the 2023-2024 Annual Report for Scheck Hillel Community School. This report highlights our inancial performance and the many ways we have continued advancing our mission of educating, inspiring, and empowering our students through an exceptional Jewish education. This was a year of growth, resilience, and excellence.
Our enrollment reached 1,278 schoolwide, with an ongoing wait pool for many grades. Campus vibrated with learning, spirit, and connection. As a school, we held Israel close during a devastating year of loss and war. Our students rose to the mission, supporting their brothers and sisters in Israel through abundant g'milut chassadim - acts of loving kindness - prayer, and gratitude. It's impossible to overstate our students' comfort in each other, their teachers, and the Hillel community during these dificult months.
Our school remains on solid inancial footing thanks to continuous improvements in inancial management and responsible stewardship. We have intentionally ensured long-term sustainability, balancing iscal discipline with strategic investments that enhance the
student experience. Your contributions—through tuition, philanthropy, and active engagement—have been essential in helping us maintain this stability and growth. These are some highlights:
Our net revenue for the year was $37,330,000. Our school is a non-proit; accordingly, all of our revenue supports our mission. Our expenses for the year were $37,344,000. The school runs on a tight budget, and every year, we ensure it is managed eficiently - this is an ongoing task, and we always strive for further improvement. The largest expense category is salaries (67.6 % of total expenses). Fundraising contributions to our school remain the most signiicant opportunity for immediate impact where every community member can make a difference. Donations accounted for 3.6% of total income ($1,359,000). This is an area of signiicant importance. We aim to maintain an excellent academic product while keeping tuition levels affordable.
I hope this report serves as a testament to our transparent inances and also to inspire and strengthen our shared commitment to the future of Jewish education. Thank you for placing your trust in Scheck Hillel Community School.
We look forward to another year of growth, learning, and shared accomplishments.
L’Shalom,
Rabbi Ari Leubitz Head of School

INSPIRING RUACH AND CONNECTION:
Scheck Hillel welcomed three new Student Life Leaders this fall. Their mission is to design experiences that foster a deep connection to Jewish identity and to Israel through immersive experiential programming. Meet your new family members:
YAEL BATTASH, LOWER SCHOOL STUDENT LIFE COORDINATOR
Yael was born in Panama and most recently worked at Brauser Maimonides as a Hebrew language teacher. When she learned of this new position at Hillel, she was ready for a new challenge. She is grateful for the daily support from Hillel faculty and staff.
“One of my main goals is to create meaningful programming to instill in children the love for Jewish Life, Torah and Mitzvot, and to complement their classroom learning with experiences that they’ll take with them for the rest of their lives.”
ELINOR RAZLA, MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT LIFE DIRECTOR
Elinor, from Montreal, is a seasoned educator ready to put her organizational and creative skills to work at Hillel. She is particularly impressed with her colleagues’ willingness to help and support her work with students, fostering a strong sense of community.
“My main goal is to create memories that the students will carry with them for life. Using the Jewish calendar
and the school’s core values as my guide, I am focused on creating events, fostering student connections, and instilling a sense of Jewish spirit in our Middle School’s day-to-day life.”
ARIEH BENTOLILA, HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT LIFE DIRECTOR
Arieh was born in Panama and, before coming to Hillel, was Rabbi and Chapter Director at Detroit NCSY. He has worked with youth since he was a teen, and his calling is to continue inspiring students through creative and meaningful programming.
“Something that really appealed to me about Hillel is the mix of so many different backgrounds in the broader Jewish community! When I met the students for the irst time, many of them shared that they are very happy with their school and community. I do feel like family here!”
PHOENIX RISING
A newcomer to our security team, Phoenix is a highly-trained canine that serves and protects our campus.
A SPACE TO RECHARGE
Our Lower School faculty and staff are enjoying the beautiful space designed with their needs in mind. Here, they can relax and recharge, enjoy refreshments, touch base with colleagues, and work in a tranquil setting. The space was created with support from our dedicated HIP/PTA.
The Annual Lion Fund

It also helps provide the gift of Jewish education through inancial aid, among other initiatives.
The success of Hillel is built on the partnership between our school and our families. This commitment to giving is deeply embedded in our culture. Help us attain 100% family participation. Every contribution, big or small, makes a signiicant impact. To learn more about the Lion Fund, please visit eHillel.org/LionFund.
