Roaring with pride, Scheck Hillel Community School welcomed 1,200 students to campus last fall, ready to start a year of renewal and joyful learning. Our students led the way through outstanding academic achievement, personal growth and teamwork. A few examples include the trio of Grade 8 students who won the national ADI Grand Prize for STEM, our 42 Advanced Placement Scholars, the Chessed Club members who teamed up with Parkinsons patients at the JCC, our teams which reached championship status and our actors, musicians and technicians who made magic happen on stage in the Wizard of Oz and at the Spring Concert. We welcomed parents back to campus, resuming beloved school traditions and enjoying their contributions to campus life and community. Teamwork was also the norm among our dedicated faculty and staff, who prioritized students each and every day. Our Board of Governors led the school through transition in partnership with administrators and parents. We thank outgoing Board of Governors members Flavio Hojda and Dr. Eduardo Nicolaievsky for their dedicated service to Scheck Hillel, and welcome new members Jeffrey Scheck (Alumnus) and Sara Sevillia ‘03. Looking ahead, Scheck Hillel is preparing for an exciting school year as we welcome our new Head of School, Rabbi Ari Leubitz (page 3). We also introduce The Lion Fund (page 17), Scheck Hillel’s annual campaign, and all the ways our community can support essential school programs - from curriculum innovation to faculty development and financial aid. The Lion Fund is Scheck Hillel’s collective “roar to action.”
Thank you for a great year! About Us

Rabbi Ari Leubitz, Incoming Head of School
With a warm Scheck Hillel roar, we welcome Rabbi Ari Leubitz to South Florida and to Scheck Hillel Community School! Rabbi Leubitz comes to us with extensive school leadership experience, having served as Head of School at Atlanta Jewish Academy and at Oakland Hebrew Day School. In this capacity, he has a proven record of effectiveness in strategic financial planning and fundraising, faculty supervision and talent development, and educational/curriculum leadership. A visionary educator, he has held the role of Mentor and Coach in the Jewish Theological Seminary’s Day School Leadership Training Institute since 2015.
We look forward to getting to know Rabbi Leubitz in person this fall. In the meantime, our Lions have a few questions for their incoming Head of School. Here are some highlights: What appealed to you about Scheck Hillel that made you want to join our school community? -Daniella Solomon and Sara Haime (both ‘25)
The sense of community was truly palpable.

Rabbi Ari Leubitz FAST FACTS
I love your question! Maybe I can join you and your friends during your lunch period on campus one day so we can all get to know each other.
Jewish food: Shwarma on a laffa (in Israel of course). Ice cream flavor: Salted caramel Saying: I am happy with A+ students, but I am impressed with A+ human beings.
“What is our purpose? Why do we need a Jewish day school? I believe that every human being has infinite potential and infinite value. I believe that Jewish tradition and a Jewish way of life maximize the potential for every human being and our children alike. I believe that a Torah-informed community is a community of learners committed to making the Jewish future something meaningful and something special.” - Rabbi Ari Leubitz, Incoming Head of School KOL HILLEL | Scheck Hillel Community School

TOGETHER AGAIN
Campus joyfully returned to the shared traditions that define Scheck Hillel as a community of learners and home for our heritage. Families attended Siddur and Chumash presentations, HIP/PTA Book Fair, Honor Society inductions and family education programs. We proudly hosted the CAJE Day School Robotics Competition and showcased learning in our own Grade 8 Science Fair, the Modern Jewish Woman exhibit, M’dor L’dor Grade 3 showcase, Gradewide celebrations, Grade 10 Thesis Expo, College Book Awards and Class of 2022 Commencement back at home. Families who joined Scheck Hillel this year further strengthened the fabric of our school, and we welcome those joining us for 2022-2023. With Lion Pride, we affirm #HillelIsHome.

AS LIONS WE ROAR, AS STUDENTS, WE SOAR! Scheck Hillel recognizes that academic excellence is multi-dimensional and can be different for each student. This is why core values, effort and personal growth are valued alongside academic accomplishment and Jewish identity. Students are recognized for the outward expression of Chessed (Kindness), Kavod (Respect), Emet (Honesty), Shalom (Peace) and Ruach (Spirit) through character-based merit scholarship, positive referrals, and citizenship awards. Academic attainment is celebrated and shared throughout the year. These pages highlight achievement in all of these areas. Kol Hakavod!
