the gourmet room My senior capstone focused on something that I had not been able to deeply explore through a studio: historic preservation. The Gourmet Room is a dilapidated restaurant in downtown Cincinnati, and is part of the iconic Terrace Plaza Hotel building. At its opening in 1948, the Terrace Plaza was heralded as the premiere Modernist hotel in all of America. With this project, I wanted to focus on capturing and interpreting the spirit of mid-century modern design, without replicating the original space. More information and my design process can be found here: https://issuu.com/eickes

river house After spending six weeks crafting an independent hotel brand to be absorbed into the Autograph Collection by Marriott, I spent three weeks designing the typical king guest room. Taking inspiration from the historic building and the riverfront park that the hotel would be located in, the River House brand and typical guest room easily came to life.

table top Challenged to update a portion of the home department to align with our customers, I landed on three distinct styles. This is an exercise that combines visual merchandising and store design. I wanted to create a “shop this look effect by utilizing all pieces from the Macy’s home store. Each of the three styles are derived from the fashion present in the store. This is my own personal strategy.

farmer’s kitchen Kroger challeneged us to rethink how fresh is percieved in the big-box grocery store format. By putting an emphasis on local vendors and creating relationships within the community, Farmer’s Kitchen is a visual merchandising element that can be implanted into any Kroger store. I submitted this project to the 2016 Formica SurfaceSet Design Competition and was selected as the first place winner.

otrf book I spent the summer after my third year doing work with the Over the Rhine Foundation to help them develop new design guidelines for infill construction in the neighborhood. I worked with a small committee to write some of the guidelines as well as put together a document to be distributed to developers with projects within the historic district. This document is still a work in progress.
kit of parts As part of a reinvent exercise in the Macy’s cosmetics department, the team designed a new suite of fixtures for our vendors. These fixtures are designed transition cosmetics from a caseline business to an open sell business, as well as being customizable per vendor. I was heavily involved in the technical drawing and detailing phase. This suite of fixtures is under consideration for future roll-out to all stores.

dubai villa This is a project that I was very involved in during my time at Wilson Associates. It is a model home villa for a subdivision in Dubai. I was responsible for all of the architectural elevations and some of the detail drawings for our re-issue of the basement floor of the property. I did all of the drawing in AutoCAD.
