THE ICARE ACADEMY COURSE PROSPECTUS

THE CHURCH The church that I see is a global church. I see a global family: One house with many rooms, outworking a unified vision. I see a church apostolic in calling, and visionary in nature; committed to boldly impacting millions for Christ in significant cities and nations throughout the earth with the greatest of all causes - the Cause of our Lord Jesus Christ. I see a church that champions the cause of local churches everywhere; encouraging them to be all that God has called them to be. A Church that refuses to be content with the triumphs of the past, but is constantly looking towards the future - filled with a vision that inspires and influences many. Positioned in the heart of culture, in great diverse urban centres, I see buildings that struggle to contain the increase of all that God is doing; occupying land and places that are miraculous in provision and impossible to ignore. I see a church that is big enough to dream on a global scale, yet personal enough for every ONE

to find their place. I see a church that beckons ‘WELCOME HOME’ to every man, woman and child that walks through the doors. The church that I see is a worshipping church whose songs reflect such a passion for Christ that others sense His magnificence and power. A distinct sound that emanates from a healthy church, contagious in spirit - creating music that resounds from villages and tribes to great cities and nations. I see a church that is constantly innovative: A church that leads the communication of a timeless message through media, film, and technology. A church with a message beamed to people around the globe through their television screens, bringing JESUS into homes, palaces and prisons alike. I see a church with a world-class college that raises, equips, and empowers generations of young, anointed leaders from across the globe. Graduates who serve God in all walks of life, released to salt the earth with dynamic ministries

H I NOW SEE and churches throughout the continents of the world.

I see a church graced with layers of ‘once-in-a-generation’ type leaders - who are naturally gifted, spiritually potent and genuinely humble. Leaders who will pay the price and count the cost of impacting cities and nations with great, God-glorifying churches. I see a church whose leadership is unified in their commitment to the authenticity, credibility and quality of its heart. Leaders who dare to be themselves, yet live secure in the knowledge that “what they are part of is bigger than the part they play.” I see a church committed to an innovative NETWORK that connects hundreds of thousands of pastors and leaders and equips them to flourish. A network committed to the apostolic anointing of leaders who are desperate to see the Church of Jesus Christ rise up to live the un-lived life within her… His glorious Church.

I see like-spirited churches in cities of influence that exemplify faithfulness manifested in bricks and mortar. Churches with supernatural provision of buildings and properties standing as beacons of light that bring glory to God and hope to humanity. I see a church that loves God, loves people and loves life. Youthful in spirit; generous at heart; faith-filled in confession; loving in nature and inclusive in expression. Yes, the church that I see is committed to bringing the love and hope of Christ to impossible situations through the preaching of the Gospel and a mandate that drives us to do all we can to bring help and solution to a needy world. Whose head is Jesus, help is the Holy Spirit and whose focus is the Great Commission. - Brian Houston 2014

WHAT IS THE ICARE ACADEMY?

The ICARE Academy was birthed out of the ICARE Revolution, a movement of young people who care about those around them; who stand up for what’s right and work to make a difference in the world. The ICARE Revolution values and believes in all young people, irrespective of race, religion, background or experience in life. The ICARE Academy is a year long programme for those who have a heart for God and a heart for young people. ICARE goes into schools, speaking to young people about everyday challenges in life, equipping and empowering them to step out, make good choices, and be the solution to those challenges. All participants will receive leadership development, biblical teaching and one-on-one mentoring. Alongside this, participants choose one of the three streams available within the programme. These are

‘pastoral’, ‘production’ and ‘performing arts’.

Academy members will also be involved in the pioneering and delivering of our ICARE schools programme to young people across London. The aim of the Academy is to inspire, grow and shape participants to seek and serve God and extend His kingdom. We are committed to supporting and developing members to become a ‘once-in-ageneration leaders in their settings!’ Over the year, we aim to build a team of effective, innovative leaders who will reach a multitude of young people and lead them to Jesus. We only have fifteen places available so please don’t miss this great opportunity. This is your year to step out, step up and receive all that God has in store for you!

ICARE ACADEMY WHAT’S INVOLVED? MINISTRY TRAINING The Ministry Training element of the programme aims to see members established in the essentials for Christian living and ministry. Themes will include: understanding theology, applying the Bible, leadership skills and lifestyle. Our purpose is to grow disciples, raise leaders and see them healthy in spirit, soul and body; equipping them for life and the outworking of their call to serve in God's house and influence their world.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING The Leadership Development element takes members on a learning journey, developing key leadership qualities and skills needed to lead with excellence and build the house of God. The programme is designed to equip Academy members to lead in every sphere of life. However, the focus is predominantly on leadership and ministry development within a local church setting, and outreach into local communities.

10

SPIRITUAL GROWTH The ICARE Academy has a huge desire to see all members grow in their personal relationship and spiritual walk with God. We know that to reach people for Jesus, we need to have a real and vital relationship with Him. We will provide every Academy member with a mentor who will meet regularly to encourage and challenge him or her to press into God on a personal level! We hope that all Academy graduates will be inspired to pursue a future serving and advancing the Kingdom of God.

ACADEMY STREAMS All Academy members can choose from one of three streams provided – pastoral, production, and performing arts. They will learn and develop their skills and knowledge in their chosen area over the year. Learning from our well-experienced and skilled mentors, members will be given the opportunity to put what they learn into practice. These streams will serve to increase the capabilities of Academy members as they reach out to young people through ‘ICARE in schools’ as well as in their future settings.

PASTORAL STREAM "There are over 1.5 million young people in London and our mission is to see a young generation rise up and be all they can be through Jesus Christ."

will MC the ICARE presentation and become a regular support to various schools in and around London.

PASTORAL FACULTY HEAD: PHIL KYEI POSITION: YOUTH PASTOR This stream will cover: • Discipleship • Pastoral Leadership • Mentoring • Speaking and Communication The pastoral stream is for members who have a heart for public speaking and journeying with young people to enable them to become more like Jesus. Academy members will gain experience and knowledge of reaching young people through discipleship and mentoring, school chaplaincy, public speaking and communication. This area of the programme develops pastoral skills and offers opportunities to influence young people on a personal level. Academy members on the pastoral stream

‘ICARE started back in 2009 with the simple vision of empowering young people to realise and fulfill their God given potential. Motivated by a Times magazine article titled 'unhappy unloved and out of control' which depicted young London as a generation destined for failure, we believed otherwise and decided to do something about it. There are over 1.5 million young people in London and our mission is to see a young generation rise up and be all they can be through Jesus Christ. Over the last six years we have seen our unique presentation delivered to more than 50,000 students in over 75 schools across London. We have seen thousands of young people make decisions to follow Jesus. We believe that’s just the tip of the iceberg! The ICARE Academy will enable us to go into more schools, reach more young people, and see thousands more find a life-changing relationship with Jesus.’ – Phil Kyei

PRODUCTION STREAM "there is no greater fulfilment in life than being able to use one’s skills and talents to build God’s house."

alongside our highly skilled production team. This team are regularly involved in producing events, performances and presentations in some of Europe’s largest and most well known theatres. Academy members will get to put their skills into action and the ICARE presentations in schools will provide opportunities to reach new creative heights when it comes to production. Before joining Hillsong staff at the beginning of 2014 as the Production Project Manager, I worked as a live sound engineer on a number of events and productions, including ‘BBC Question Time’, ‘The One Show’, ‘Daley and Devlin’ and ‘Daughter.’ Prior to this I studied Electrical Engineering at Cambridge University.

PRODUCTION STREAM FACULTY HEAD: RICHARD HARRIS POSITION: PRODUCTION PROJECT MANAGER This stream will cover: • Sound • Lighting • Logistics • Producing • Set design The Production stream is for Academy members who want to develop and improve their skills in this area, whether it be sound or light engineering, visual and set design, or event logistics. Those who have a passion for creating, building, or producing, will love this stream! Academy

The ICARE Academy provides an incredible opportunity for young people to grow both technically and spiritually. I believe there is no greater fulfilment in life than being able to use one’s skills and talents to build God’s house. The ICSRE Academy is a brilliant environment in which to develop personal skills and gifting, as well as being part of something much bigger than oneself. Everyone will be amazed at where this experience can take them! – Richard Harris

PERFORMING ARTS STREAM "Icare Academy is an opportunity for young people to influence and impact the world around them using ‘what’s in their hands."

area of the programme aims to develop natural creative gifts in performance that can go on to be used for a greater purpose. This includes ICARE presentations that provide members with opportunities to utilise their unique gifts. Academy members will work with our creative directors and highly skilled creative team.

PERFORMING ARTS FACULTY HEAD: KIRSTY TRINIDAD POSITION: CREATIVE DIRECTOR This stream will cover: • Singing, Songwriting and Music • Dance • Graphic design • Photography • Videography • TV and Media The performing arts stream is for members who want to learn and develop their creative gifts, including on-stage performance and behind-the-scenes work in TV and media. This

I have always had a love for performing arts because they allow artistically inclined people to express themselves creatively. I have worked in the music and entertainment industry for over ten years. My main areas of expertise are dance, choreography and creative direction. I am excited about the ICARE Academy because it provides the perfect environment to develop young people’s talents; to nurture them in their gifting and encourage them to use their creativity and skills for a cause much greater than themselves. This is an opportunity for young people to influence and impact the world around them using ‘what’s in their hands.’ – Kirsty Trinidad

A WEEK AS A ACADEMY MEMBER

18

The ICARE Academy provides a variety of opportunities for personal growth through teaching, mentoring and practical experience. These are a few of the things Academy members will typically be involved in each week:

SCHOOLS During the week, Academy members will go into a variety of London schools delivering the ICARE presentation to the young people. Academy members will use their ‘specialised stream skills’ to develop and build the ICARE presentations, designed to reach young people and increase opportunities in schools.

LEADERSHIP MASTERCLASS Academy members will attend a weekly ‘leadership masterclass.’ These sessions will provide a learning journey where key leadership qualities and skills can be developed, in order to be better equipped to ‘lead with excellence’ and build the house of God.

EVENING COLLEGE On a weekly basis, Academy members will attend ‘Hillsong Evening College’ which offers a wide range of short, life-changing courses designed to increase ministry skills.

YOUTH All Academy members will be involved in building the youth ministry within the life of the church. They will attend the monthly ‘youth encounter nights’ and other events aimed at reaching young people and building relationships.

SUNDAYS All Academy members are required to serve one of the Sunday services. Members are encouraged to serve either Fuel (11-14 year olds) or Wildlife (15-18 year olds). This builds relationships with the young people

already part of the church, and those reached through ICARE in schools. All members will be encouraged to attend another service as part of the congregation.

ONE ON ONE MENTORING Each Academy member will be mentored by a key leader in the church, who will walk out the year alongside him or her. Mentors will help members develop a deeper spiritual walk with Jesus, as well as assisting in the setting of goals and objectives.

SPECIALISED PROJECTS Academy members from all streams may be asked to assist with specialised church projects throughout the year. These will give unique opportunities for Academy members to utilise their gifts and skills within the life of the church.

REHEARSALS Academy members on the performing arts stream will be required to attend rehearsals during the week for upcoming events and performances. This gives the opportunity to shadow skilled creative leaders and to bring all performances up to a standard of excellence. Performing arts and production members will also be required to attend a fortnightly creative team night.
