Unprecedented Challenge & Change DEAR FRIENDS, Eastern Iowa Health Center (EIHC) was founded in 2008 to strengthen the healthcare safety net in Eastern Iowa. We continue to fill gaps in care for underserved populations in our region to this day. The commitment to our patients in providing second-to-none quality, and comprehensive, affordable healthcare is at the core of our work. 2020 was another successful year for our organization—but it provided unprecedented challenges. The first pandemic in 100 years, along with the sometimes daily changes from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the State of Iowa, and many other influential and data-driven advisors yielded fits and starts, pivots and prevention and testing and treatment for COVID-19. Since March 2020, our staff have worked tirelessly to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, EIHC patients and staff were impacted by the August Derecho. I am inspired by the resiliency and dedication our staff continue to exhibit daily. They remain committed to the delivery of healthcare services, public health mitigation efforts and the overall health of our community. With the dawning of the new Biden administration, the federal government is counting on the 1,300 Federally Qualified Health Centers like EIHC nationwide to vaccinate 100 million people. There is no doubt that we will continue to face challenges; however, with a renewed focus on mission, redefined values and a commitment to the health of our community, we look forward to continuing to build meaningful partnerships and be an integral part of the Eastern Iowa healthcare system. I am genuinely grateful for your support of EIHC and our incredible patient-focused staff. Our patients count on us—and we will continue to deliver.
