ENTER OUR SMS COMPETITION AND WIN BREAKFAST OR LUNCH AT BISTRO 13: Chef Nic van Wyk, in collaboration with Stellenbosch Vineyards, announces the opening of Bistro 13. The opening signifies Nic’s return to Stellenbosch and more importantly to the kitchen. “I’ve been itching to get back into the kitchen, and what better time to do it when you can be involved in building your dream restaurant space,” says Nic, who has been part of the project from when the blue prints were drawn up for Bistro 13. The bistro gets its name from the moment Nic set his desires on cooking. A Van Wyk family tradition was that at every thirteenth birthday, the family member celebrating this milestone would choose any restaurant they wanted to eat at, a moment Nic remembers fondly. Fab readers stand the chance to win a lunch at Bistro 13 for two. This includes three courses, with wine, valued at R550 as well as winetasting in the Stellenbosch Vineyards Tasting Room, and three wines to take away and enjoy at home, valued at R315. The second prize is breakfast for four guests at Bistro 13 valued at R400. To book call 021 881 3044 or email: reserva tions@bistro13.co.za or visit their website: www.bistro13.co.za.

Rolling’s where it’s at DALEEN FOUCHÉ He glides graciously up the first ramp, gaining momentum and speed then leaps into the air, performing a perfect air kick. This is how Cliff Viljoen, a Somerset West local and previous pro-rollerblader spends a typical afternoon at the Somerset West skate park in Lourensford Road. The park, that has been in existence for more than five years, is now centre stage to the revival of rollerblading. Viljoen says this sport, that was a big hit in the nineties but faded into obscurity, is now experiencing a massive amount of interest and is rapidly gaining momentum. This trend is spreading like wild fire through South Africa, but according to Viljoen, the Somerset West skate park is the best park in the country, not just for rollerblading, but also for skateboarding and BMXs. Viljoen says the sport attracts people of all kinds, including working adults from diverse backgrounds as well as kids. Viljoen has now started a website for
