Written for Yarn/Wire with support from Meet the Composer Instrumentation Percussion 1: (with MIDI pedal)

Waldteufel, Guiro, Caixixi, Ratchet, Birdcall (Audubon) plectrum (heavy guitar pick), guitar slide, superball mallet (with rattan), foam mallets*, bass drum mallet, moleskin damper*

Piano 1:

Guiro, snare drum stick, rattan,

Percussion 2: (with MIDI pedal)

Sandpaper (two blocks), 4 Crotales (D#7, E7, G#7, A7), Vibraslap, Woodblock (medium) snare drum stick, guitar slide, superball mallet (with rattan), foam mallets*, moleskin damper*

Piano 2:

Woodblock (medium), superball mallet (with rattan), plectrum (heavy guitar pick),

* Mallets to be constructed by the performers as follows: - foam mallets: attach a wide, soft piece of foam to a rattan handle, to be played against the piano strings producing the maximum resonance over the widest range possible with a minimum of attack. - moleskin damper: cover a small metal pipe with moleskin cloth, to dampen the lowest piano strings over the widest range possible.

Notes Clef used for playing techniques inside the piano, indicating approximate register centered at C4.

Play on the piano strings, tuning pegs, or between bridges and tuning pegs.

Clef two octaves above the treble clef.

Play on piano soundboard, metal frame, or percussively on piano keyboard.

Clef two octaves below the bass clef.

Exaggerated pressure.

The top two strings of both pianos are muted with Blu-Tack throughout the piece.

An approximate fast rhythm resulting from a slow gesture.

Silently depress. Notes may be prepared in advance of indicated rhythm.
