POSTSEASON APPEARANCES 1981 NCAA DIVISION I TOURNAMENT - 3RD PLACE FINISH

Under the direction of Schellas Hyndman – EIU’s all-time winningest coach and current FC Dallas head coach – the Panthers placed third at the 1981 NCAA Division I Tournament in only their first year as a Division I member. EIU posted the school’s most wins in a season as they finished the year with a 19-2-2 record. Led by All-Americans Damien Kelly and Agyeman Prempeh, the Panthers out scored their opponents 62-8 during the season. Goalkeeper Eric Hartman posted 16 of the team’s 18 shutouts, a school record that still stands today. No other EIU team has finished as high as the 1981 team in the NCAA Tournament since joining the Division I ranks.
