EASTERN ILLINOIS PANTHER CROSS COUNTRY

The home of Eastern Illinois cross country, The Panther Trail is a two-mile cross country course that spans the western part of the Eastern Illinois campus surrounding many of the EIU athletic and intramural facilities. EIU annully plays host to the Panther Open Cross Country meet each September and hosts the Ohio Valley Conference championships on a rotating basis. The course has a mixture of both grass and a stone-chip path. The course features a set up for 8K competition for men and 5K competition for women. (men’s course markings shown above). In addition to training and racing on the Panther Trail, EIU runners can also take advantage of several other top training areas in the area including -- Fox Ridge State Park (located just six miles south of EIU), The Rail Trail (a flat running/biking trail extending from Charleston to Mattoon) and on various country roads surrounding Charleston.

TOM MICHAEL EASTERN ILLINOIS ATHLETIC DIRECTOR Tom Michael was formally introduced as the 10th full-time athletic director in Eastern Illinois University history on July 22, 2014 Athletic Administration and began his role on August 11. He comes to EIU after serving as Mark Bonnstetter - Senior Associate AD the Senior Associate Athletic Director at the University of Illinois Mary Wallace - Associate AD/SWA "Tom Michael's experience, integrity, and commitment to the Rich Moser - Associate AD/Media academic development of student-athletes are excellent," stated EIU John Smith - Associate AD/Major Gifts President William Perry. " I am very pleased he is joining the EIU Ryan Hastings - Assistant AD/Development family." Dave Kidwell - Assistant AD/Special Projects "We are excited to begin the next chapter in Eastern Illinois Panther Athletics with Tom Michael as our new athletic director," said Dan Nadler, EIU Vice President for Student Affairs. Over the course of the phone and on-campus interviews you could see that Tom is someone that will be totally committed to the academic and athletic development of EIU's student-athletes." Michael has worked as the Senior Associate Athletic Director at Illinois since 2012. He is currently overseeing the renovations to the State Farm Center. Michael joined the Illinois athletic department in 1996 as an academic counselor. I feel the 18 years of employment and four years as a student-athlete at the University of Illinois, have prepared me for this opportunity. I leave Illinois with a tremendous amount of respect for the training and experiences it has provided for me both as a Division I student-athlete and as a Division I athletic administrator." Michael received both his bachelor's degree (1993) and master's degree (1994) from Illinois.
