Erosion concerns mainly come from two parts, which are the wave fluctuation from Payette Lake and the urban surface runoff after a rain event. In addition, soil erosion in a steep slope will need to be considered in the overall design as well.

Conceptual Statement The selected area of this project is located in the Brown park area along the southeast shoreline in McCall, Idaho. In terms of creating a pleasing destination for McCall residents and numerous visitors while taking the ecological and environmental aspects as well as the future maintenance into consideration, a concept called “New Frontier City” appears. The concept of the design is about creating a “New Frontier City,” which will consist of three parts: “Ecological Frontier,”“Community Frontier,” and “Art Frontier.” In order to accomplish “Ecological Frontier, two main focus aspects including shoreline stabilization and urban runoff filtration system are addressed. Along the Brown Park area, shallow water landscaping will be incorporated into existing Rock Rip Rap to stable the naturalized shoreline and help filter some urban runoff from the adjacent paved areas. Near the Davis Beach area, considering topography in this area are more gradual, shallow water landscape with existing logs will function as another shoreline stabilization strategy, which will also bring in visual interest along lakeside trails. In addition, an urban runoff filtration system will be proposed to re-mediate the water quality and improve the overall city landscape. In the urban runoff filtration system, green infrastructures including the Bio-swale in the parking lot near the Brown Park, proposed rain gardens in the vacant lot as well as in the Brown park, will function as the first filter layer. Surface runoff will then flow through the shallow water landscape along the shoreline, finally drain to the Payette Lake. In order to accomplish “Community Frontier,” open spaces including terrace and lawn area are considered to be placed in the transitional area between the Davis Beach and the Brown Park. Besides, Streetscape improvement, proposed pedestrian and shared bike lane along the Lake Street, Eco-education for residents and visitors are proposed in the overall concept. In order to accomplish “Art Frontier,” incorporating Public art is a significant part to help a city to enhance its “identity,” street art and public art are considered to installed in the Legacy park, Brown Park and along the E Lake Street.
