The Bi Zi Ka Hotel and Spa is set among the dramatic mountain forests of the Dafengbao Scenic Area. The hotel is positioned in a densely forested upland along the edge of a deep ravine. The hotel building grows out of the rocky landscape, with a heavy stone plinth that undulates in response to the surrounding site conditions. A stone plinth contains the spa and recreation program including an indoor pool.

The hotel rooms and restaurants hover above the plinth contained in a lighter glass and wood clad structure. The undulating roof of the glazed lobby space mimics the form of the natural landscape and the canopy of the forest.

A courtyard forms the interior heart of the hotel providing a protected outdoor setting with reflecting pools, trees and patio spaces. The experience of the courtyard space contrasts with the natural landscape surrounding the hotel. The hotel affords spectacular vistas and offers many opportunities to experience the beauty of the natural mountain setting.

The Marina Hotel and Clubhouse is located at the end of a penninsula sloping dramatically down towards the shore of Golden Sea Lake. The Hotel and Clubhouse is focussed around a marina providing water oriented recreation opportunities for guests of the hotel and residents of the surrounding resort community. The 120 room hotel contains restaurants, bars, a conference facility, a spa, and a recreation club with indoor and outdoor pools. The hotel building encircles the marina with stepping terraces and gardens. The building faces southwest providing spectacular views over the marina and lake.

Three small islands form an arc around the marina. Docks and boat slips fan out from the shore giving access to the islands. The first dock services larger cruise boats for group dinner cruises run by the hotel. A second dock extends from the VIP members clubhouse providing private access to boat slips. A third dock provides boat slips and water access for the public.

The Van Phong Bay Hideaway adds to a growing list of first class resorts within the region surrounding Nha Trang. Van Phong Bay features a spectacular landscape with wide open expanses of deep blue water and intimate bays with secluded sandy beaches, lush forested hillsides and dramatic rocky outcroppings. Van Phong Bay is formed by a cluster of rocky islands and forested mountainsides tenuously joined to the mainland by a narrow sandy peninsula. On the outer northern edge of the peninsula a long sandy beach will be future home to a series of large scale beach resorts. The inland bay is currently home to traditional fishing villages and a number of small scale tourist and resort sites. The journey to the resort will begin in Nha Trang where most visitors will travel to from other parts of Vietnam. Nha Trang is a 55 minute flight from Ho Chi Minh City or a 1 hour and 40 minute flight from Hanoi. Access to the resort from Nha Trang will be via float plane or high-speed boat. The journey will take the visitor along a beautiful stretch of coastline across two large bays; Nha Phu Bay and Van Phong Bay. The Van Phong Bay Hideaway is located in the north eastern corner of the bay where the sandy peninsula meets the mountainous landscape of the outer rim of the bay.
The master plan concept envisions an exclusive, five-star, international standard spa resort development. The resort will be sensitively integrated into the stunning local natural environment. The intimate setting of the resort, with its natural environment of forest hillsides, dramatic rocky outcroppings, sandy beaches and turquoise waters will be the distinguishing features of the resort. The resort will target the rising pool of affluent Vietnamese and Asian guests with a long-term view to attracting world-wide travelers. The resort accommodation will be comprised of exclusive beach front villas, spa villas on stilts over the inlet, boulder villas nestled along the rocky shoreline, garden tower villas set in a garden setting viewing over the beach villas out to the bay, hillside villas perched overlooking the resort and bay and sky view villas in three-storey buildings in the centre of the resort area. The resort amenities will include a small marina, conference/meeting and wedding facilities, bars and restaurants, a night club, a spa, swimming pools, and a wide variety of sports and leisure activities. The diverse opportunities offered in this intimate setting will create an innovative and marketable resort experience.

EKISTICS developed a unique master plan and architectural design for this premier golf course and luxury resort hotel for Hon Thi Island off the coast of the seaside resort city of Nha Trang in Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam. The resort occupies an archipelago of four private islands with a combination of pristine waterfront edges and scenic lush hillside landscapes. The goal was to develop a master plan for a luxury 5-Star 150 room hotel complemented by a variety of private hillside and sea-fronting villas with a multitude of recreational options to explore the incredible beauty of the islands. Visitors can play golf, hike canopied jungle trails, rock climb challenging cliffs, and explore kilometers of forested mountain-side trails; or practice the fine art of doing nothing at all. The primary amenity of the resort is an 18-hole championship golf course (a 9-hole golf course option was also designed) located in the low lands of Hon Thi Island providing a series of spectacular waterfront golf holes. The resort design includes a boutique casino, a spa, multiple restaurants, swimming pools, tennis courts, sailing facilities and a scuba diving centre, the goal of which is to offer the guests of Hon Thi Island Golf Resort a wide range of recreational opportunities during their stay. The arrival to the island is accommodated by a marina that serves both recreational boating and essential transportation of passenger and cargo to the island. The master plan has been designed to take full advantage of the natural setting of the archipelago. Sensitive site planning locates the single family villas in prominent hillside locations providing most homes with golf course and ocean views. Buildings are carefully integrated into the dramatic natural environment limiting development to a relatively small portion of the islands surface to create an ecologically sensitive development maximizing the amenity of the natural environment. Smooth, white sands; calm, turquoise waters; rugged, black granite cliffs; dense tropical forests; lush grassy meadows - it is described by the locals as a paradise on earth. The resort is only a short boat ride from the resort town of Nha Trang, which is becoming known as a primary resort destination in Vietnam.

酒店建筑沿着奥克纳根湖岸展开布置,俯瞰湖面的壮丽景色,下面是鹰岭高尔夫度 假村的果岭球道。酒店沿着山脊的坡地布置,围绕着罗伊斯山峰并部分嵌入自然 地形内。厚重的石头基座支撑着上方的建筑,建筑造型模仿环境中天然大石块的棱 角、表面纹理和裂痕等特征,同时还通过透明体来模糊化室内和室外的界限。 酒店的主要功能是以各种各样的欧式水疗设施来进行康体和疗养。酒店的客房设在 建筑的上面几层,客房在所有的方向均有景可看,观湖或观山景。围绕在这个山顶 度假区周围设置的还有两个餐厅,一个酒吧、娱乐活动和会议室等功能。
Set among the mountain forests of the Upper Okanagan in British Columbia, Canada, the Sparkling Hills Resort is a 150 room luxury wellness resort hotel. EKISTICS was commissioned, in collaboration with Feenstra Architecture and Cannon Design (project architects), to design this luxury resort complex with direct oversight by the Swarovski family of Austria. The building affords spectacular vistas that stretch across Lake Okanagan, and over the green fairways of Predator Ridge Golf Resort. The building reclines along the slope of the ridge, tucked into natural benches wrapping around the crest of Mount Royce. Heavy masonry supports the building and mimics the character of the surrounding rock with angles, striations and fissures. Elsewhere, transparency blurs the boundaries between inside and outside. The hotel focusses on health and well-being, with its extensive European Style Spa treatments. The hotel rooms occupy the upper levels of the building providing views in all directions; over the lake and surrounding mountainsides. Two restaurants, a wine bar and entertainment and conference rooms round out the offerings of this mountain top resort.

The Shenzhou Resort is located on the Shenzhou Peninsula near Wanning City, on the east coast of Hainan Island. CITIC Pacific is developing a world class seaside resort destination project with private resort villas, international brand hotels and a spectacular golf course. EKISTICS was commissioned to design a master plan and private resort villas for a Luxury Villa neighbourhood in the center of the new Resort Community. The Villas are designed to maximize their position and orientation in the plan. The golf fronting villas are single storey villas with an open courtyard out to the view of the golf course and in some cases the ocean. The villas, in-behind the golf fronting villas, are elevated to take advantage of longer distant views. The internal villas have lush interior gardens with some mountain views from their upper floors. The villas have abundant outdoor rooms, swimming pools, spas and lush gardens to enjoy. All of the villas maintain privacy and exclusivity. A Central Clubhouse was designed for the residents featuring a a restaurant and bar, a large outdoor pool, tennis courts, a spa and fitness center, games rooms, a kids play area and a convenience store.

The Sun Lake Resort is set among the dramatic mountain forests of the Dafengbao Scenic Area a threehhh hour drive from the City of ChongQing. The Hotel stretches along a cliff edge facing south over a deeply incised valley.

The hotel building grows out of the rocky cliff face, with a heavy stone plinth that undulates in response to the surrounding landscape conditions. The hotel programs includes a spa, pool, and recreation program in the base of the building. The hotel rooms and restaurants are set above the stone base and are contained in a lighter glass and wood clad structure responding to the surrounding forest. The lobby affords spectacular vistas with a large glazed wall, blurring the boundaries between inside and outside. The building offers many opportunities to experience the beauty of the natural landscape.

EKISTICS prepared a concept master plan for SACOM’s Tuyen Lam Lake Resort. The goal of the plan was to establish a luxurious high-end residential golf course community on this spectacular lake front site in Da Lat. The master plan for this new resort community occupies two distinct scenic landscapes - a lush green forested valley featuring an 18-hole championship golf course centered around a golf clubhouse and high-end resort amenities; and a waterfront peninsula featuring a 5-Star luxury hotel, conference centre, and marina surrounded by high-end shopping and restaurants along a lakeside promenade.
社区内的豪华独立别墅环绕高尔夫球场设置,可俯瞰泉林湖秀丽的景 色。泉林湖度假区又被称为SACOM度假区,将设有多种休闲娱乐项 目,包括高尔夫球、水上运动、沙滩活动、远足和露营。
Luxury single family villas surround the golf course and overlook Tuyen Lam Lake, taking advantage of the views. The Tuyen Lam Lake Resort, also referred to as SACOM Resort, will feature unmatched on-site recreational opportunities including golf, sailing, water sports, beachfront activities, hiking and camping.

The Golf Course Clubhouse and Boutique Resort Hotel overlook the 18 hole golf course. The Clubhouse terraces into a very steep slope on the edge of the valley providing vistas over the golf course. The Clubhouse is accessed from the upper floors where the most public functions of the building are located including the restaurant, bar, meeting rooms and lounge. The lower levels accommodate the golf oriented functions with direct access out to the course.

The Boutique Resort Hotel lies along an adjacent ridge of land with golf holes surrounding the site on 3 sides. The hotel is clustered in a series of buildings allowing the form to adjust to the sloping terrain and the orientation towards the best views.

The master plan has been designed to take full advantage of the natural topography and to create a spectacular and unique living experience for both the valley golf homes as well as the lake fronting homes. The master plan locates the golf course clubhouse and the two hotels on prominent natural sites in order to provide the best golf course and lake views. The master plan has been sensitively integrated into the dramatic surrounding natural environment creating an ecologically sensitive development maximizing the amenity of the natural environment of Da Lat.

EKISTICS master plan for the Cam Ranh Golf Resort maximizes the site’s unique development potential. The master plan organizes the resort functions to take best advantage of views, ease of circulation and proximity to recreational amenities responding to the site’s ecological and physical attributes. The golf course amenity includes a 27-hole private “championship course” providing 3 interchangeable 9-hole par 36 courses and a 9-hole par 27 public “resort course”. Each course provides the golfer with a distinctive experience allowing the player enjoy the golf facilities in a different way each time they visit. The residential component of the master plan defines strategically located residential parcels that maximize the premium view over the golf course and the distant views of the ocean from the site’s higher elevations. Access to the residential areas is arranged so that vehicular traffic does not conflict with the play of golf. All residential villas are proposed as single family homes in three ranges of house size and lot size configurations – the goal of which is to capture different sectors of the real estate market and demographics. The commercial resort is structured and programmed to incorporate diverse resort related functions that are complementary to each other to create a resort experience unique to the site and to the region. The resort includes an international conference centre for up to 2,500 guests, a 350 room 5-star hotel, 100 ground-oriented townhouses, a sports clubhouse and a riverfront marina for small recreation boats. An exclusive 46 villa serviced neighbourhood is designated as additional high-end resort accommodation to be privately owned and managed by the hotel. The hotel is a modern building with a stepped form organized to create an open courtyard facing the river and long distance views to the ocean. The hotel amenities are all found within the courtyard area including pools, spa, kids play areas and a riverfront beach and promenade. The hotel rooms are oriented towards the views of the river and the golf course. A large conference facility lies adjacent to the hotel fronting the river, a marina and waterfront promenade.

本项目开发商的目标是希望为项目设计一个独一无二的具有现代风格和加 拿大典型特征的焦点式建筑。 会所圆台形玻璃体采用的是加拿大制造的胶 合木结构体系,室内的展示空间高大开敞,使用空间相对集中,从会所室 内可以直接看到小区主入口,广场,跌水和一片浅水反射池。 主体建筑共分成三层,底层在地下并面对叠水瀑布,地上首层主要功能是 一个开敞集中的展示大厅,在大厅的后面是一片服务区,从展示厅通过一 螺旋楼梯上到夹层,然后可以从圆台型的建筑主体上到一个室外的屋顶平 台花园。 会所在初期的时候将被用作别墅区的市场销售中心。后期会所将被用来改 作餐厅和酒吧,成为入口商业服务配套的步行街的一部分。 本会所具有清 晰的独一无二的建筑特征,从相邻的街道上经过,很容易识别,并将人流 吸引到小区的商业街上来。

Near the 2008 Olympic site in Beijing, People’s Republic of China, this building is the first in a series of commercial buildings situated along a winding pedestrian street in the newly master planned community of First Forest. The developers’ goal was to create a focal point for the project that is uniquely modern and distinctively Canadian. The clear glass cone supported by a Canadian manufactured glulam structure creates a large interior display and gathering space overlooking the community entrance, plaza, a waterfall and reflecting pool. The three storey building incorporates a lower level meeting room facing a waterfall below the main plaza level, a main level with an open gathering and display space and service area behind, and an upper mezzanine accessed by a winding staircase following the form of the cone providing access to an upper outdoor roof deck garden. The Clubhouse building initially is being used for Marketing and Sales for the surrounding new community. In the future, the building will be converted to a restaurant and bar as part of the commercial activities along the pedestrian street. This unique building is clearly identifiable, seen from the passing roadway, drawing people into the community and the shopping street.

会所建筑的中心大堂部分高高地耸立,采用了胶合木的结构,形成一个从 会所看向高尔夫球场和远山的取景框。 由于周围别墅小区销售的需要,会所建筑的一翼被用来作为项目前期的销 售中心使用。在首层大堂的另外一侧,则是用来作为一个高级的餐厅使 用。 建筑 的 两 翼 都是 胶合木结构体系 , 木结构构件 都直接暴露在出来, 屋面下 均为红雪松木 望板和天花板。
Situated on a sloping site within a new mountainside community, the Iron Mountain Clubhouse overlooks a new executive 9-hole golf course. The large central lobby of the building features a soaring glulam timber structure, framing the view over the golf course and distant mountains. As the surrounding residential community is being sold, one wing of the building will function as a Sales and Marketing Center. A restaurant will occupy the opposite side of the main floor lobby. Both wings of the building feature exposed glulam structure with cedar ceilings and soffits.

The lower level of the building incorporates the golf course clubhouse functions such as the pro-shop, change rooms and offices. A fitness center occupies the central volume of the lower floor, and the adjacent lower wing of the building incorporates a lounge and cafe. A large outdoor terrace and infinity edge swimming pool is situated in front of the lower cafe providing a spectacular outdoor patio for lounging and relaxation.
暴露的木结构体系以及室内木装饰材料在本建筑内的广泛运用在本地区乃 至中国 都是很少见的,木材的运用 能够营造出一种温暖的 室内气氛,与周 围 的自然地形及景观相映成趣。
The extensive use of exposed wood structure and interior wood finish is unique to this area of China and will create a warm interior atmosphere, reflective of the surrounding natural landscape.

‘Paradise City’ is located in the south central region of Guangdong Province in the city of Foshan. EKISTICS Architecture was commissioned to design the Clubhouse and Commercial Village for this new master planned community. The Clubhouse and Commercial Village provides a social and recreational heart for residents of the community. The Clubhouse is situated along the edge of the lake oriented towards the southern views. Outdoor gardens, patios and terraces and a large recreational swimming pool undulating along the edge of the lake take advantage of the temperate climate and beautiful setting. The clubhouse program includes a restaurant, gallery, wine bar, cigar bar, business center and recreation facilities. The Clubhouse forms one edge of the pedestrian Commercial Village. The Village stores are clustered around squares and alleys forming an intimate, pedestrian scaled experience. The contemporary Mediterranean building style compliments the garden setting and sub tropical climate with shallow hipped roofs, deep overhangs and large windows. Overall, the buildings encourage strong connections between interior spaces and the surrounding gardens and courtyards.

The Marketing Building for the Da Yi Phoenix International Tourism Resort is situated near the main entrance to this new residential golf resort community on the edge of a practice golf facility. The building is comprised of a series of interlocking geometries, with large projecting roofs, large windows to enjoy the views and gardens walls and terraces that extend the building out to the landscape. It incorporates a large hall serving as the main display area for the Marketing and Sales of Villas in the community.

The main hall engages the edge of a lake with a cantilevered deck taking advantage of views across the golf course to the rolling hills beyond. The elongated building form wraps around a putting green culminating in a small golf clubhouse for the practice facility. The putting green acts as a formal garden for the open courtyard.

The building program includes the reception and main display hall, a coffee bar, a multimedia theatre, signing rooms, executive offices, meeting rooms, a staff room and a detached golf pro shop. The building is spacious, light and modern taking advantage of its setting and providing spectacular views through the interior spaces out to the landscape. The building has a flexible layout and will respond well to display changes and changes of use in the future. The modern architectural style of the building is in keeping with the character of the Villa architecture which EKISTICS designed for Phase One of the development.

The Cam Ranh Golf Course Clubhouse is situated in a new resort area just outside of the town of Nha Trang on the central coast of Vietnam. The Clubhouse sits at the center of a new 5-star resort residential community overlooking a 36-hole golf course. The rugged mountain backdrop and distant views of the ocean provide a dramatic setting for the clubhouse. The building is approached through a water fountain forecourt and port cochere. The entry lobby is a large open volume with an intricate latticed wood ceiling. The center of the lobby floor opens down to a cool lower lounge and cafe surrounding an interior reflecting pool. The open structure of the lobby captures breezes from the ocean cooling the building interior. The lobby overlooks the golf course and views towards the distant mountains. The main reception, restaurant, bar and a sales and marketing center for the new surrounding community occupy the main floor of the building. The lower lobby level incorporates a lounge and cafe, change rooms, pro shop and executive offices. This building will function as the central amenity for this new resort community.

EKISTICS designed a gymnasium building for the China International Practical Exhibition of Architecture in which an expressive “glulam” wood structure showcases the versatility and beauty of wood using the latest technology in wood manufacturing and construction techniques. The gymnasium building appears as an extension of the wooded hillside both in form and material. Positioned at the edge of forest and lake, the canopy of the gymnasium building extends over land and water to illustrate the integration of built form and nature. EKISTICS developed the master plan for the exhibition phase of CIPEA. The structure of the site plan is centered on four primary public buildings – a Contemporary Architecture Museum (Steven Holl), an International Conference Centre (Arata Isosaki), a 5-star Hotel and a Recreation Centre Clubhouse (Ettore Sottsass). In addition, there are twenty residential buildings that are positioned throughout the site and adjacent to Buddha Hand Lake connected via a small local hillside road and pedestrian trails. The master plan was designed to create 24 unique building sites that serve as a canvas for architectural design with the goal of developing an exhibition of “architecture in nature”. A Phase Two residential master plan and a regional master plan for the entire Pearl Spring Tourism Area for the local government were undertaken for the client. The Phase Two master plan consists of the design of 125 luxury villa sites on a peninsula surrounded by Buddha’s Hand Lake.

复地花屿城销售中心和会所概念设计的建筑造型灵感来源于山体和树林, 将建筑与自然地形融为一体。两个建筑单体从地面生长出来,与山体结合 起来。建筑的外立面采用强烈的岩石造型元素,折板屋面,绚丽的水晶玻 璃幕墙和连廊。 两个建筑界定了其间的公园,其由山间岩石跌水溢出,内 有青翠绿化,反射池塘,小路和台阶等景致,景观在和花街交界的广场处 达到高潮。
The design concept for the Park City Sales Centre and Clubhouse takes its form from the mountain and the forest, blending the concept of building and nature. The two buildings emerge from the ground engaging the hill with strong stone elements, folding roof planes and faceted glass facades and fissures. The two buildings frame a dramatic park which spills off the hillside in a rocky waterfall, lush vegetation, reflecting pools, paths and stairs culminating in a large plaza on axis with ‘Flower Street’.

Entering the Sales Center is like walking into a sculpted rock with a soft wood interior. Skylights penetrate through the ceiling gently illuminating the interior volume. Above, the undulating roof connects with the natural landscape of the park, folding upwards and downwards as the roof form flows towards the main plaza where it rises in a dramatic glass wall to reveal the building’s interior.

From the edge of the park, a solid stone base supports the roof and wraps the outer edge of the building facing the villas, creating the impression of the building emerging from the ground and the hillside. On the park and courtyard side, the stone base of the building transitions into the waterfall, reflecting pools, stairs and plaza, creating a blending of building and nature. The strong stone edges frame the softer interior landscape. The Clubhouse frames the opposite side of the park and courtyard contrasting the openness of the Sales Center with a much more enclosed stone facade. The building connects with the natural landscape of the hillside park as a secondary independent stone-like element. The entrance off the main plaza is immediately identifiable as a narrow vertical fissure which cuts the Clubhouse building into two halves. The fissure is the main atrium for the building connecting the main entrance at the plaza through to the park at the opposite end of the atrium as well as the three floors of the building. The stone facade of the clubhouse peels away in significant places bringing light into the various rooms within the clubhouse building. The Clubhouse program includes a restaurant, indoor swimming pool, spa, fitness facilities, games, billiards, table tennis and karaoke rooms. The Sales Center program includes a large main display area, a media theatre, meeting lounge, coffee bar, sales signing rooms and administrative offices on the upper floor.

The Tande Community Clubhouse is situated in a new residential community in the south of People’s Republic of China, Guangdong province in the city of Huizhou. EKISTICS was retained to design the master plan and the feature Clubhouse building for this new community.
会所位于小区蜿蜒曲折的主景观大道端头,主景观大道贯穿整个小区的中 心,在会所内可以俯瞰临近的小河。 会所的布局呼应了小河的走向和景观 大道的位置,在景观大道面向小区一侧设置了一个正式的主入口,在面向 小河一侧则设置了一个平台式的花园。 会所的建筑风格是一种用现代手法 来阐释的地中海建筑风格。 在两层的建筑主体和标志塔的周围布置了室外 露台,静观架,特色水景和花园,这些室外的空间提供了更多的临水建筑 的体验。
The Clubhouse building overlooks a river at the end of a winding boulevard through the center of the community. The building responds to the orientation of the river and entry boulevard providing a formal entrance facing the community and a terraced garden facing the river. The architectural style for the Clubhouse is a contemporary interpretation of Mediterranean architecture. 长桥郡会所位于中国成都郊区的一片新开发的高档住宅小区的中心位置。 会所周围包围着一大片广阔的草坪,花园和池塘,从会所可以远眺相邻的 小河,小河沿着待建住宅小区的边界线向前流淌。
The Bridge County Clubhouse is at the heart of a new residential community on the outskirts of Chengdu, People’s Republic of China. Surrounded by expansive lawns, gardens and ponds, the Clubhouse overlooks an adjacent river that flows along the edge of the new residential community.
建筑的平面布局是沿着一条线形的水平交通来进行功能组织,而建筑的主 要功能用房都安排在面向湖面的一侧。走道在室内和带有遮盖的室外空间 之间的灵活布置,通过水和景观来营造更多的趣味联系空间。 建筑的体量 也沿着小河的流淌走势而进行布局,采用了强烈的水平线和屋顶退台的形 式来进行呼应。面向河流的一侧,建筑的层层退台以把室内空间的体验延 伸到室外。
The building plan is organized along a linear circulation path with the primary building program facing the river. Corridors move between the inside and covered outside space creating more varied connections with water and landscape. The building form follows the flow of the river, with strong horizontal lines and stepping roof planes. Facing the river, terraces spill out of the building to extend the experience of the interior spaces.
会所的主入口通过一个花园式的亭子和一个大尺度的悬挑雨篷进入到建筑 内,主接待大厅像一座桥似的横跨在形式规则的水池上,同时将入口大 堂与餐厅及二层酒吧连接起来,餐厅包房和酒店的客房与餐厅毗邻。在室 内的端头则是休闲娱乐俱乐部,设置了一个大型的室内游泳池,池边休闲 廊,壁球场,健身房和游戏室等设施。
The Clubhouse is entered through a garden pavilion with a large cantilevered canopy. The reception hall bridges a formal pond connecting the entrance lobby with a restaurant and upper level wine bar. Private dining rooms and VIP hotel rooms adjoin the restaurant. A recreation club terminates the interior program with a large indoor swimming pool, a poolside lounge, squash courts, fitness rooms and games rooms.

The Clubhouse for the Floating Villas in the Shenzhou Peninsula Resort Community forms an important link between two resort neighbourhoods. The Clubhouse occupies the center of a large central park area serving the two neighbourhoods with recreation and open space amenities. The building acts as the primary reception space for the resort with a large covered lobby overlooking a water garden and outdoor swimming pools, inviting the guests into the resort experience. The lobby is open on all sides with a second floor bar and lounge floating above. Two wings of the building extend out from the lobby forming a courtyard for outdoor eating or simply relaxing in the garden. The courtyard utilizes formal plantings of palm trees that extend out towards a rectilinear pool for exercise. A resort pool interfaces with the formal pool and garden introducing curvilinear, informal patios, pools and gardens. One wing of the Clubhouse contains a two storey restaurant and the resort reception and property management offices. The opposite wing contains a convenience store, fitness and yoga studio, change rooms and games rooms. The open quality of the building allows the garden - like qualities of the surrounding landscape to extend through and around the building, blurring the boundaries between inside and outside space. The building extends out into the landscape with arcades, canopies and stepping forms. Open walls and breaks between building volumes bring the landscape in. The Clubhouse building relies on the plantings and special landscape features to support and compliment the overall resort experience.

Located within the Shaohai Development in QingDao, People’s Republic of China, the golf course and associated Clubhouses will serve as a focal point for the future surrounding residential community. Three buildings occupy the site including the main Clubhouse and two smaller V.I.P. Clubhouses. The architecture and landscape design are in the Andalusian style and incorporate distinctive arched openings, arched cornices, covered colonnades, courtyards, grand terraces and formal gardens. A grand formal entry drive leads to the main porte cochere of the clubhouse. The building is entered through a formal plaza with fountains, lush gardens, sculptures, and porticos. A viewing tower, situated between the clubhouse buildings, anchors the site and acts as a beacon for the project.

The Beach Club at Point Roberts is the focal amenity building within a waterfront master planned community. The community is situated along the southern coastline of Point Roberts, Washington, USA. An exposed timber structure enhances the interior space providing a warm and welcoming setting for the Clubhouse activities. The form and materials of the Beach Club compliment the historic Cannery style buildings of Point Roberts and the traditional Longhouse structures of the Coast Salish people. Like the traditional Longhouse, this community building will be a place for community gatherings, social interaction and story telling. Overall, this master planned residential community and Clubhouse embraces the spirit of Point Roberts, its people, history and native heritage.

On the eastern shores of Okanagan Lake in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada, four vacation homes occupy a small bench of rocky land. The homes are perched dramatically along the water’s edge, taking full advantage of the setting and views. The two homes toward the center of the site reach out perpendicular to the lake. Tall windows boldly frame the view and provide a connection to the deck. The two flanking homes are oriented parallel to the lake front with a wider interior view to the lake. The main floor of the units are open plan and provide sweeping views of the lake and hillsides beyond. Wide bi-fold doors on both unit types open up the inside of the homes to the outside, allowing the interior space to feel like a large porch or veranda during the summer months. The lower floors give direct access to a private beach and docks below. The homes utilize a geothermal heating source with a combination of in-floor radiant and forced-air heating and cooling air distribution.

Situated on the north slope of Burnaby Mountain overlooking Indian Arm, this three storey residence rises from the landscape to capture views and create dramatic upper level living spaces.
车库和入口都设置在最底层,其他的房间都设置在主体建筑的另外两层 里,包括主要的起居室、餐厅、开放式厨房及3个卧室。另外还有一个与主 体建筑脱开的客房和办公用房,两者时间由一个大的平台相连。 两边的建 筑体量为中间的平台营造了一个私密的室外空间,使其主要视线能集中在 水面和山体景观上。
The garage and entrance are on the lowest level. The remaining program of the house is one and two levels up from the entrance including the living room, dining room, open kitchen and three bedrooms. A guest house and office is separated from the main building with a large deck in between. The massing of the building(s) creates privacy for the exterior deck and focuses views towards the water and the mountains.

The house maximizes the allowable building area on the property. It has a generously planned interior with a large family kitchen and great room opening up to the rear yard. The quieter north side of the main floor accommodates a formal entrance and dining room. Three bedrooms, a study and laundry facilities occupy the upper floor. A large lower level suite is accessed at garden level through a separate entrance facing the side street. The house utilizes a geothermal heating source and a combination of in-floor, and forced-air heating and cooling distribution. The Craftsman house utilizes overhanging end gables with wood brackets, shingle siding and a granite stone base.

The Cam Ranh Villas are a collection of golf fronting contemporary villas situated on a mountainside overlooking a new 27-hole golf course in Cam Ranh, Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam. This region is expanding rapidly as a significant tourist destination on the central coast of Vietnam. This new community will set a benchmark for resort living in the region.

The housing style is uniquely modern and captures the essence of resort living in this climate and mountain-side setting. The large overhanging roofs provide shade in the intense mid-day heat while the large windows provide views and strong connections to the landscape. The design of the homes encourages a lifestyle that utilizes the surrounding outdoor gardens and patios as extensions of the interior rooms. The homes are clearly expressed as a series of volumes with stone cladding for the base, light colored plaster on the upper levels with wood accents highlighting significant forms. The windows play a significant role in the expression of solid and void, creating complex geometries and a visually pleasing facade.

The Cape on Bowen is a new master planned community on the west coast of Bowen Island, British Columbia. Dramatic ocean front and inland properties were planned for large estates and reclusive island retreats. A series of homes were designed for the developer on a selection of lots on this site. The homes take advantage of their unique settings preserving the natural topography and vegetation on the site. The homes capitalize on the views and south orientation with large expanses of glass and outdoor terraces that extend the interior living space to the outside. The home on lot 48 incorporates a guest house detached from the main dwelling, creating a small private retreat for extended family and friends. Materials for the homes will blend with the natural landscape, utilizing granite, heavy timber, cedar siding and glass as the dominant building materials.

On the edge of a spectacular new golf course on the outskirts of Qingdao, EKISTICS Architecture was commissioned to design a series of Spanish style Villas. The homes embody the spirit and character of traditional Spanish homes with grand entrances, courtyards, terraces, pools and gardens. The homes are graced with arched entrances, columns, a rich palette of stone cladding, decorative wooden shutters, wrought iron details and traditional clay tile roofs. The landscape complements each home with beautiful paving, garden walls and planters, gates and trellises, fountains and pools and lush Mediterranean planting.

The twenty-eight Cottages at Tobiano overlook the rolling fairways of the golf course in this new resort community. The cottages are clustered in the landscape with varied orientation and a diversity of building forms. The cottages open up to the golf course with large expanses of glass providing viewing opportunities from the main living spaces in the home. Strong emphasis has been placed on blurring the relationship between the interior spaces and the exterior courtyards, terraces and decks as the moderate climate allows for comfortable outdoor living. The buildings provide deep overhangs encouraging shading during the warmer summer months. The Cottages make use of muted warm colors and materials, blending into the natural grassland environment.

EKISTICS inspiration for the design of the First Forest project in Beijing is founded on the distinct and unique landscape of the site, in particular, the alignment of the existing tree corridors which are prevalent throughout the property.
这些树廊最开始只是为了保护农耕用地而种植的防风林,历经了百年的成 长,这片防护林里已经成为一道亮丽的景观。在概念总体规划阶段,我们 利用了这一独特的场地特征并且最终布局很大程度上是按照现有景观树木 的格局和规律来进行规划的。小区内道路系统的设计灵感是来自于北京城 的道路格局——以同一个中心设置的多环道路系统。
The allee’s of trees, originally planted as wind rows in response to a farming land use, have grown into a powerful landscape over the last 100 years. The concept master plan acknowledges this feature and the resulting plan is largely derived from the existing pattern and language of the trees within the landscape. The structure of the road system takes its inspiration from the city of Beijing with a series of ring roads focussing in on a central commons.
对于别墅单体设计,开发商要求设计一系列不同风格建筑,然后混搭在同 一街区内,这种方式在北美的传统街区内十分常见。这一系列风格包括工 匠师风格、都铎风格、草原式风格和乔治亚风格,别墅全部采用木框架结 构。最终的社区看上去完全类似与由不同风格别墅组合在一起传统的北美 街区,包括道路旁的门廊、人行道、大树和狭窄的街道。
For the housing design, the client requested a series of housing styles, mixed along the street, a pattern commonly found in traditional North American neighbourhoods. Craftsman, Tudor, Prairie and Georgian styles were designed and built utilizing wood frame construction. The resulting community looks like a traditional neighbourhood with varied housing styles, porches, sidewalks, mature trees and narrow streets.

The Da Yi Villas are a collection of modern housing prototypes designed for an exclusive new golf resort community outside of Chengdu, People’s Republic of China. Townhomes, Duplexes and Single Family villas in a range of sizes make up the prototypes for this community. The homes are situated on beautiful forested hillsides along meandering narrow streets, maintaining a strong sense of connection to the surrounding golf and natural landscape. The housing style is modern with warm natural exterior materials connecting the homes to nature. From the street the homes maintain privacy with enclosed entrance courts and minimal openings facing the street. On the view side of the homes, large expanses of glass, patios, gardens, terraces and pools open the homes up to the golf and landscape views.

The Hillside Courtyard Townhouse community occupies sloping land with ridges and valleys dividing the larger area into smaller neighborhoods. The concept for the townhouse community is to cluster the town-homes around private and shared courtyard spaces, organized within a sloping, gridded street and open space network. The overall character and appearance will be that of a traditional hill town. The Courtyards within each townhouse cluster step with the sloping terrain, creating a series of terraced patios and abundant opportunity for views and light. The shared ‘outer’ courtyard is filled with gardens, fountains, seating areas, a pool and cabana. The private ‘Inner’ courtyards enclose patios that extend the interior living space of the units to the outdoors. These outdoor rooms are enhanced with feature water elements, edge plantings, potted plants and seating areas. The architectural character for the Hillside Courtyard Townhouses takes its form from elements found in traditional Chinese buildings. Examples of traditional elements used in the design of the townhomes are the the form and decorative expression of the vertical walls between units, the upper level building projections and the use of screens to create privacy, filter views and light. These traditional architectural elements are reinterpreted in a contemporary language.

The project consists of 20 contemporary town homes with a mews fronted by
mixed use development completing the village ‘High Street’ at Osprey Village.
5,000 square feet of small village retail buildings facing the street. The three storey town homes are characterized by strong, simple forms, large geometric windows and vibrant colors inspired by the traditional cannery buildings of this riverside setting. The single storey cottage-like commercial buildings front directly on to the main street. Between the shops and the town homes a mews is formed creating an intimate garden space for the town home residents.

Situated along the west bank of the Pitt River adjacent to a riverfront park in Port Coquitlam, this project envisions six townhouses parcels, four apartment blocks and a central green space with an amenity building. At completion, the development will include six hundred homes clustered into ten distinct neighbourhoods. The master planning was designed as a vibrant and cohesive community that connects the residences to the Riverfront Park and surrounding commercial and recreational areas. The site massing was organized with the four storey apartment buildings along the main connector road stepping down to the three storey townhomes along the riverfront park. Working with MOSAIC Homes, EKISTICS Architecture developed new townhouse prototypes for this project including new architectural brands for the company. Each style was inspired from traditional forms and contemporary architecture. One style reflects a traditional “Salt-box” form incorporating steeply pitched gable roofs, while the other drew inspiration from Pacific Northwest Contemporary Architecture incorporating shallow pitched roofs and large roof overhangs. In both cases, the vertical expression of each home is emphasized and building massing is designed to highlight the individual homes. Large windows further add to the vertical expression of the units and contrast against the more solid surfaces of the building façade. The entry experience into each home has been carefully considered and is highlighted with contemporary aluminum canopy’s and stained cedar soffits. Other materials used on the to environmental sustainability, all buildings will be constructed to achieve Built Green Gold Standards, a Canadian third party certification program endorsed by Natural Resources Canada.

A series of traditional villa prototypes were designed for an exclusive residential community set on the edge of a natural wetland reserve. The homes are designed as large estates with complex building forms, varied roof lines with multiple gable ends, large chimneys and stone and brick facades. The houses present a very formal face to the street. The formality continues into the grand entrance halls and formal living and dining rooms. The houses open out onto terraces, swimming pools and gardens taking advantage of the large outdoor yards. Extensive use is made of the lower levels of the homes with wine cellars, media rooms, exercise rooms, games rooms and a maids quarters.

EKISTICS was commissioned by LVC and the City of Weihai to participate in a design competition for the redevelopment of the industrial shipyard lands in downtown Weihai. EKISTICS master plan is based on the historical and geographical context of the site – the position within the city, the historical industrial land use, the form of the land, the extensive waterfront edge and the surrounding land uses and transportation systems. The site is situated in the center of Weihai Bay with a traditional CBD to the north and a developing CBD to the south. The City government of Weihai has seen the potential for this site to become a new mixed-use City Center, with tourism, culture, recreation, residential and commercial land uses coming together to form the heart of a revitalized district. The peninsula-like land form jutting out into the bay is the most significant landform in the center of Weihai. The site with its industrial land use currently interrupts the long gently arcing waterfront park promenade that forms the dominant edge between the city and the ocean. The site is surrounded on three sides by water offering an unprecedented opportunity in this city to create a sigjificant waterfront community extending and elongating the waterfront edge, drawing water into the site in the form of marinas and canals. EKISTICS concept establishes three primary zones within the site: a “public zone” accommodating tourism, culture and educational venues with supporting restaurants, entertainment, parks and recreation; a “commercial zone” accommodating shopping, restaurants, entertainment, business, office and other complimentary commercial uses; and a “private zone” accommodating residential and private resort recreational uses. The master plan connects the existing beachfront open space to the north and south of the site, along boardwalks, marina promenades, pathways along canals and through parks. As a tourist or resident of the city, the experience of moving through the site will be diverse and exciting. The concept plan connects the new site into the existing surrounding street grid, providing strong, positive physical and social connections to the existing city. A central transit hub within the new development will accommodate public and private forms of transportation by land and sea.

The Golf Villa Resort Neighbourhood is located within the Shenzhou Peninsula Resort Community near Wanning City on the east coast of Hainan Island. CITIC Pacific is developing a world-class seaside resort destination project with four feature hotels (including two Sheraton Hotels, a Grand Hyatt and a Four Seasons Hotel) a 45-hole Tom Weiskopf golf course, on 38 km² of ocean front land and a large area of resort homes and amenities. EKISTICS was commissioned to develop a Master Plan and the design the Villas and Clubhouse for the 268 unit Golf Villa Neighbourhood. This neighbourhood is the most important villa site within this new resort community. The master plan has been developed to create a unique interface between the golf course and the residential realm around the outer edges of the neighbourhood. The key element in creating a successful transition is to balance the needs of both the golfer and the resident. Separation between residential buildings and the golf course is enhanced by the placement of undulating landforms and landscape in the transition zone. The residential building face is broken in numerous locations and building placement is constantly changing angles so that the golfer never experiences more than seven or eight building faces from any one location on the golf course.
The courtyard villas range in size from 150 s.m. to over 300 s.m. The larger more luxurious villas are situated along the outer edge of the neighbourhood with open courtyards facing out to the golf course; some villas with views over the golf course to the ocean. A second row of villas is elevated to take advantage of views, with an open second storey courtyard above street level. The internal villas are focussed inwards to lush gardens and swimming pools.

EKISTICS prepared a master plan concept for this beautiful waterfront site. The developers goal was to develop a landmark waterfront community in JiaoNan (a suburb of Qing Dao) that will establish a new standard for waterfront development in the region. The master plan maximizes the amenity of the ocean and river front location, introducing an extensive system of canals and lagoons connecting the site directly to the river and the ocean. A series of neighbourhoods are organized around the inland waterways featuring luxury single family homes, townhomes and apartment residences. Four dramatic neighbourhoods - the Marina Neighbourhood, the Lagoon Neighbourhood, the Forest Neighbourhood and the Beach Neighbourhood will create a unique mix of living environments. Many home sites will have direct access to their own private dock. The inland waterways will connect into the existing golf course site and through the Forest Park to the south of the project site. Continuous public beach access will be maintained along the oceanfront without compromising the security and privacy of the waterfront residences.

林荫大道公园环路——以一条林荫大道环路来组织整个交通。这一条林荫大道选建 在现有地形上的一条山谷中,环路外围是一座天然的小丘。整个环路犹如一条缎带 上串着十一颗翡翠玉珠一般,浑然天成的自然美给前往影视基地以及相关度假旅游 项目的游人以耳目一新的第一印象。这一条景观大道连接了设计范围内的所有功能 区,是整个规划设计的骨架结构。环路两端是两个大型停车场。 塔楼——沿着景观大道环路,十一个自然小丘上,都分别设置了一系列的塔楼, 其设计与环路内的城墙呼应。在夜间,这些高楼上会有大型的投影,将会把与影视 有关的图案和短片投射到城墙上或夜空中。整个影城在夜晚立即成了一个电影博物 馆,让夜晚的影城也充满了丰富互动的人文环境。 功能区——整个设计的功能区域分布以景观大道环路为分割线,划分了内外两个截 然不同的区域。在景观大道外围分别布置了度假区,旅游度假房地产产品区,影视 大学,以及影视基地。环路外的功能相对私密,各自在入口环路上通过独立的大门 进入。整个园林环路的外围区域设计已融入自然宗旨,设计大量利用风格自然的软 景装饰,结合景观大道沿途的十一个小山丘来映照返璞归真的休闲生活。在环路的 内部,设置了供大众游览的旅游产品功能区,包括:古镇商业街、戏院、百龙园、 五星级酒店、大庙、碑林等。整个景区进一步由一段段犹如堡垒城墙的石墙环绕。 石墙的沉稳体态和直线造型与景观大道环路外侧的自然风格形成了一刚一柔的对 比。
Dazu County, reputed as the “county of rock carving” is located 67 km west of Chongqing and is known as a special natural environment surrounded by mountains and lakes. Working together with Centaland, EKISTICS developed a design concept that explores the interaction between built form and the existing landscape and the natural resources. The master plan is derived from the landscape and attempts to contrast nature with the man-made elements of the design. The film base and the culture of film making are then overlaid on top of the plan. There are three primary design elements: The Parkway - the master plan is organized by a boulevard parkway loop road. This is a boulevard built into an existing valley that uses the natural terrain to organize the site. The area outside the loop road remains natural in the form of existing hills. This natural beauty gives a refreshing first impression and acts as an organizing element to visitors who are visiting the film base and the resort for the first time. This parkway connects all the functional areas within the design area and provides a “spine” for the structure of the entire master plan. At the both ends of this parkway there are two large-scale parking lots which act as anchors serving vehicles entering the site from the outside. The Towers – on the outside of the parkway loop, there are a series of towers located on top of each of 11 hills. The form of the tower echoes that of the city wall on the inside of the parkway. At night, there will be large-scaled projection on the city wall originating from these towers and film-related patterns and short videos are designed to be projected onto the city walls in the evening. The concept is for the entire film base to become a living film museum with an interactive cultural environment at night. The Functional Areas - the functional areas are divided by the parkway into two distinct parts. Resort areas, the film university and the film base are located to the outside of the Parkway. These areas are relatively private and each has a separate entrance access road. The areas to the outside of the parkway loop have been designed to integrate into nature and the 11 small hills are preserved to create a natural relaxing environment. The public tourist zone is located to the inside of the Parkway including the Old Town commercial street, the cinemas, the 100 Dragon Park, the central 5-Star hotel, and the Temple. This inner area is furthermore surrounded by sections of a fortress-like stone wall. The sturdy posture and structural shape of the inner stone wall forms a striking contrast to the soft natural landscape on the outside of the Parkway loop road.

EKISTICS developed an Urban Design maste plan for the Sanya Bay Phoenix Water Town, a large ‘New Town’ development located on the western edge of Sanya city and the upper reaches of the Sanya River. The site is tidal marsh land with three river courses passing through it. The site area is 210 ha of which 50 ha is within the river flood plain. The project is envisioned as a first class landmark real estate development that will reinforce the tourist, resort and recreation focus of Sanya. The site is strategically important to the future development of the City of Sanya as it forms the western edge of the downtown core and is located at the confluence of two rivers that flow through Sanya forming the harbour in the center of the city.

Organized around a network of canals, five residential neighborhoods feature a mix of townhouse, garden apartment and mid-rise apartments each sited to maximize frontage onto open space and the Sanya River. High-rise apartment buildings are located fronting onto Jie Fang Road to maximize the southern ocean views. A mixed-use commercial village is located at the southeastern edge of the site where the river flows under the Jin Ji Ling Bridge. This area features commercial, retail, restaurant, entertainment, hotel and residential uses focusing on an inner water basin. This commercial village is outward looking and welcomes residents and visitors in Sanya to enter and experience all that Phoenix Water Town has to offer.

The development will feature 2.1 million m² of building area at 1.0 FSR with a comprehensive mix of land uses forming a complete community comprised of residential, hotel, commercial, restaurant, retail, school, and recreational amenity land uses. The existing river corridor and its associated setbacks form a green spine extending through the development and creating a green transition area between the distinct neighborhoods. A golf course sports park is located along the river corridor, transforming the non developable setback area into a recreation and visual amenity for the residential neighborhoods.

Bridge County is a high end villa and courtyard townhouse project located in Chengdu. The site occupies a strategic parcel of land at the confluence of two rivers, which provide a unique amenity and identity for the project. The landform is a flat river plain. Careful consideration of the low elevations and hydrology of the site informed the master plan concept and structure.

EKISTICS planning approach for Bridge County was inspired by the design of other water canal projects like Port Grimaud in the Cote d’Azur, France and Puerto Adventuras on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. The master plan creates a series of “islands’ that are accessed by vehicles from the outside and connected on the inside for pedestrian movement. A system of canals separates the island and uses the existing low water table as a way to introduce a unique open space amenity into the heart of the community.

The primary organizing element of the master plan is a central parkway road that connects each residential neighbourhood with the main entrance, the clubhouse and the bridge across the Willow River. The clubhouse is sited at the dramatic intersection of the two rivers and will offer residents and visitors panoramic views to the river and surrounding area. The riverfront experience is maximized through the design of a linear waterfront greenway park along the banks of the Willow River, within the setback preservation area. Large single family homes front onto the parkway and river giving the community a feeling of grandness and luxury. A smaller mountain side development parcel on the opposite side of the river features large homes nestled into the sloping topography, maximizing views along the Willow River corridor.

Situated on the east coast of Vancouver Island, the Schooner Cove project proposes a mixed-use development to compliment the existing marina and a new vibrant waterfront village for the residents of Nanoose. The project proposes 30,000 s.f. of commercial space primarily situated adjacent to the marina and will consist of a “Village Green,” market, restaurant, cafe, bakery and marina related amenities. To promote a sustainable and walkable community, 395 residential units are also proposed to compliment the Marina Village and to provide alternative housing choices within this primarily single family neighbourhood. The existing site has considerable changes in topography and building placement responds to these landforms to create a development that works with the land and captures views to the Straight of Georgia and distant coastal mountains.

The master plan proposes a development strategy based on a clear understanding of the changing nature of international business and, more specifically, aims to further catalyze Vietnam’s economic development with additional opportunities for employment, foreign investment, global trade, commerce & industry. Our proposal encompassed the guiding principles for the Hiep Phuoc Port Urban Area to accommodate its share of Ho Chi Minh City’s seaport system and additionally to establish a liveable, productive and selfsustaining complete community providing a full spectrum of port, industrial, commercial, residential and recreational uses & services.
