anna Tjhin and Dolly Chia set up Wilshire at The Foundry no.8 in SCBD, Jakarta. And to bring their vision for the layout and design to life, Hanna and Dolly made use of the design expertise of Leo Einstein from Einstein Associates in collaboration with Su Yenni of Indonesia Design. The result is an industrial inspired design supported by the steel, metal and copper square tubes hanging from the ceiling and corrugated steel wall inserts with exposed concrete walls, softened with finer touches such as flower motif imported mosaic tiles and artworks from Bisazza in Italy, comfortable upholstered selected couched seating and dark stained polished wood and cast iron chairs and tables. Located at The Foundry no 8, Jakarta’s first pop up urban district, Wilshire is one of the newest restaurants in town carrying the same name same as one of the boulevard in Los Angeles. The restaurant is divided into two main spaces: the main dining area and a bar, and the private room and the wine post. The long narrow facade dominated with the linear table setting and linear pattern industrial filament bulbs. The outdoor garden touch blends harmoniously with the interior of the restaurant. The flooring has combination sections of polished timber boards adjoining the floral tiles mosaic and concrete floor.

HIGHER MARKETING COST OF REAL ESTATE IN SINGAPORE

T

his may come as a somber tone for any Singapore real estate agents and other professions alike but in fact the higher cost can tip the advantage scale to the likings of the agents. With the growth of Singapore’s advertising industry, real estate sector is actually helping itself to receive better and wider range of clients. It is expected that over 4.300 agents will be receiving training on how to work with increasing advertising rate, this gesture will seem counter-productive but in the long run of the industry, this particular event is needed to secure more gains and decrease anymore losses. It is targeted to cut cost on money wasting on advertising and strictly to be more straight-forward with the clients, but if the option is to use the expertise of an advertising agency than the training will help them with again cost cutting in putting ads.

TIME TO BUY PROPERTY IN SAUDI ARABIA

ith every single country is poised to charge 2014 with high prices on properties and real estate developments along with high volume of sales, logically speaking Saudi Arabia will follow the trend. However, experts have been predicting that a drop in the property price is plausible and the numbers are quite staggering, over 25 percent of property price will be significantly decreased. It is not a bad thing per se, with a low price within this year, the smart thing to do is to buy the property once the price is down and sell it when price eventually go up. This dip could be the break that the people of Saudi Arabia been looking for with the world economy being in state of emergency, people will buy properties and turn them into profit within the coming months of 2014.

SPECIAL report

AVOID ALL CLUTTER IN HORSE YEAR, OR ELSE YOU COULD EXPERIENCE CHAOS AND CONFUSION

20

FENG SHUI TIPS FOR

WOOD HORSE

2014

@photo courtesy of Simon Ma

2014 is the year of the Wood Horse, and horse’s style is clean, utilitarian, and sporty. So pare down. Clean out your entry to welcome all the good luck that will come into your home and place of business in 2014. Clean out the front porch, entry hall, lobby, or whatever the entry is where you live. Make this area clean, well lit, and inviting. You don’t need to install a fish pond or fountain. Just make it clean. Check the entry’s lighting fixtures, add a fresh coat of paint, and a new rug to welcome the Horse. Horse is no nonsense and does not want frills or anything fancy. HORSE IS A MINIMALIST, SO KEEP IT SIMPLE Make sure that all areas are clean with no clutter! Events move so quickly that it is easy for clutter to pile up. Avoid all clutter in Horse year, or else you could experience chaos and confusion. Don’t over decorate or add more to your environment unless you are adding healthy plants. Next year Sheep 2015 is the time to decorate, be fancy, and treat yourself. But in Horse year stay strong, avoid any sort of big shopping spree, and work on being strong physically. Clean your home as if it is spring cleaning but done now. Move any piece of furniture that has not been moved during this past year to clean behind and below it. If you have clutter anywhere, now is the time to get rid of it. What is clutter? Any item that you do not use. Clear out all closets, drawers, and storage areas if they have clutter and are not organized and tidy. PAINT ONE ROOM The energy of any environment can be transformed completely by adding a couple of coats of paint. If each room of your home has white or ivory walls, all that white is too much of the element Metal which can lead to arguing and bickering. When the weather warms up in summer of Horse year (Horse’s

power season) be sure to paint at least one room with color. It can be a small room such as a bathroom, but all-white walls in a home is too much Metal that leads to imbalance. Good colors for a small room are soft blue for a bathroom or light green for a bedroom. Be sure the blue or green are restful and not too bright. Yellow is good in the kitchen, or gold in the dining room. Which room to paint? Paint the area that looks the most rundown and is in most need of sprucing up. ENERGIZE YOUR KITCHEN Every room of your home or office has a Creativity/ Children area to focus on in Horse year. But the most important room this year is your kitchen because that is the room of the element Wood, and 2014 is the year of the Wood Horse. Start in your kitchen, a minor yang room. Start your Horse year feng shui journey by standing at the entry of your kitchen. Then observe what is in your Creativity/Children area. Really look at your kitchen to clean it up, and then make it the kitchen that you really want. Do the work. The next room to transform is your living room, also a yang room in this yang Horse year. FLOWERS AND PLANTS In a Wood year, it’s fortunate to add plants, flowers, and healthy bamboo to your home and workplace. Fresh flowers bring fresh aroma that clears the air for New Year, especially if your home feels dark, over heated, or musty. Add beautiful flowers to welcome the New Year and to increase abundance. And plants offer fresh oxygen to improve health. The energy of a room is brightened by the addition of flowers and plants. So be sure to add fresh cut flowers or a healthy plant to your home for New Year. *Courtesy of Susan Levitt*

HOME IMPROVEMENT SALUTING THE NEW YEAR WITH PLETHORA OF NEW FURNITURE

R

esolution, the first thing when talking about The New Year, but for home furniture maniacs, the New Year means only one thing and the one thing is new products. This year is marked with the color trend being more monochromatic and the display of contrasting black and white coupling. Although seems a little bit out of date but several furniture still embellish the color grey which was the universal color of 2013. Being retro in color choice can be a clever way to decorate a colorful living room with one significant insignia that is the color grey. Here are several fun loving products that can lighten the day in a living room but of course adding some necessary grey in the mix as well.

BUILD MODULAR SHELVING TEARS DOWN THE REALM OF IMPOSSIBILITY

B

ook shelving doesn’t have to be mundane and be a sore sight to see, this is the main idea behind the construction of BUILD, a modular shelving that is made out of the most odd-shaped shelving one would ever see. Peculiar design is the best way to sum up BUILD, one unit alone would twist and turn one’s mind when looking it at it and it breaks down the old and usual thinking that bookshelf needs to be just a square shape. The other use for this interesting home accessory is quite abundant, there are many purposes that can be featured inside the house, there is the obvious use of a bookshelf that can brighten a sunny day with its white finishing or if the mood for sophistication struck, one can take the black finishing and turn BUILD shelving into a thing of high taste. It also can be a temporary seating for guests or even a low table and even with a sense of contemporary styling this shelving system can be used as a great room divider and with a special couplings, BUILD can also be turned into a wonderful wall rack.

24

The sky is the limit is the motto for Movisi, the creator of this wondrous thing. Every owner of these quirky cubes can shape their shelf into anything imaginable. Once can stack BUILD into a tall shelf with 18 shelves or create something eye-pleasing with a horizontal stacking. The back of the cube can be opened or closed depending on the likings and for the maximum unit, there are no maximum numbers at all but 24 shelves are enough to create one enormous and humongous piece of useful art. It is very lightweight that even children can pick it up and create bookshelves of their own. One BUILD shelf is measured about 520mm of height, 385mm of wideness and 290mm of thickness, it only comes in black and white colorings but there has been some talk to add more colors to BUILD. This is the way to create one astounding art display in a house, a bookshelf can be an exuberant art.

CHRONICLES OF COLOR LOSE YOURSELF IN THE COLORS OF CHARPOY

26

M

oroso, the Italian brand in unique home accessories has outdone themselves one more time, their latest product is named Charpoy and what a design it is. It may come across as just another patio furniture inside a house but the amazement lies in the colorful emblazon within the seating. The colors just crave attention and get attention it will, the four-piece accessory is great for outdoor experience but it can be a cheerful display inside a humdrum house, it can be the talk of a party since this item is filled with fun and excitement.

Charpoy or in its native tongue meaning four legs is a reimagining of an Indian daybed but with more zest and festivity inside it. The base seating which is glossy black implies the absence of color with a white plus sign in the middle which is the insignia of Charpoy. The second seat to the Charpoy’s four legs is the white with black plus insignia while the other two seats offer a colorful stripes and orange embellishments. The designers, Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien envisioned a modern take on the traditional woven bed and they did exactly that, this future day Indian daybed is nothing short of wonder. The cornucopia of color that Charpoy provides is somewhat to admire and the materials used in the four prongs are without a doubt the best of ingredients for any seating system.

uilt on a foundation of recognized expertise combined with cutting-edge technologies, Tolerie Forezienne is positioned as a manufacturer and designer of street and outdoor furniture. The Managing Director, Dominique Guichard shares the philosophy behind the brand, “The choice to use metal as an essential element of the creation process comes naturally to a company that has mastered the art of transforming it and understands its richness and natural beauty. As an integral part of its innovative and creative approach, Tolerie Forezienne has always worked to build lasting relationships with designers who share a certain set of values: humanism, beauty, creativity, security, sociability, well-being and durability. These values are reflected in each creation and thus form the central theme of its projects for communities.”

28

Notable projects include Interférences by Alexandre Moronnoz, it flirts with the idea of lying completely flat on the ground. Its lower surface undulates and teases the ground with just a few contact points. Its upper surface, flat and level, invites people to rest for a moment before heading off to rejoin the movement of the urban environment. Just like a public area in movement, Interférences oscillates between order and disorder, a balance generating creativity, conviviality and a coming together. Alexandre Moronnoz also creates Muscle, and just like a living organ, Muscle is a counter-proposal to the introduction of rigid and fixed urban furniture thanks to its convivial and dynamic shapes and its refined lines. The furniture invites people to either sit down or to stretch out by resting the body along the contours. Just like the fibrous structure of a muscle, the metal sheets work through compression and pressure to maintain the rigidity of the seat.

INTERFÉRENCES OSCILLATES BETWEEN ORDER AND DISORDER, A BALANCE GENERATING CREATIVITY, CONVIVIALITY AND A COMING TOGETHER

With its self-supporting structure, De Vous A Moi chair by Mikael Rigaudon projects a feeling of visual lightness. The opposite-facing seats facilitate dialogue and exchanges, designed in enameled folded steel. This chair offers a soft place to sit that invites rest, relaxation and repose. Through its street furniture collections, of today and tomorrow, the brand wants to offer new development perspectives to people in charge of managing public spaces. The function of furniture is to serve the user. Through its beauty and aesthetics, it must also help to embellish the city, district or park in which it is erected. www.tolerie-forezienne.com

This jolly man is always the advocate to good and healthy living and through his art display, he constructed the idea to blast everyone in sight to throw away their car and motorcycle keys and reinvent themselves into the way of the bicycles. First introduced at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum in 2011, Ai Weiwei’s ‘Forever Bicycles’ has made an impression and critical impact to the usage of cars in China. In 2013, the concept of healthy living through a display of creativity by the man with art fists was displayed one more time, with the help of Tourism Toronto and Grants Ontario. In hopes that the people of Canada and the whole world can see the expression of an activist that is concerned with how the world has become.

FOLLOW THE LEADERSHIP OF MASTER RENVILLE AS SHE BREAKS DOWN THE TREND

W

ho doesn’t know Rina Renville? The director of De Stijl is one of the foremost interior designers that one may find in Indonesia. Her expertise in designing is without question and by that notion, the privilege on interviewing this master of interior is not to be taken lightly. We took the time to ask her about the trends that will sweep the nation’s interior design landscape and here is what she has to say: De’Stijl is your baby, can you tell us the story behind it? After two years work in Singapore, I opened my own studio with 2 partners in Jakarta. Our approach is derived from the premise that every space has a possibility to become an engaging experience. We provide services for residential commercial, hospitality, retail, and corporate space design. We are committed to make every angle of space to have different effect to every experience. Exploration on different textures, materials, color, and its applications that combine together make various possibilities for transforming spaces into a new experience How would you describe your own style? Chic yet simple, detailed, contemporary and unique. You once said that style and trend are two different things, can you elaborate for us? Trend is a benchmark that affects and is affected by condition thus presenting new inspiration. Every time the designer created a concept that is predicted to be a trend. When we talk about style, it is personal, the designer is responsible for delivering messages in each concept design and design project with its own style. Can you tell us the trends in interior designing for 2014? One of the highlights for 2014 trend is about healthy life and relaxation. “Moving and playing” with high tech materials, clean and using light material as well. Our identity and cultural roots will also be in trend, Theme designs with geometric patterns, urban form but built by local or cultural elements.

Give your thoughts on the trend of 2014 in each section of the house, i.e., kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathrooms? “Everybody is an artist of life.” In every corner we can have our personal art expression that will make our space more alive. The theme relates to the expression of art for coloring life with expressive colors. What colors will dominate this year’s trend? This year color trend will be the movement of new color emerges between the bold and the soft, there will a balance concept between natural colors but still has that sophisticated and richness in each statement. We saw the rise of vintage furniture in 2013, can that vintage look be seen in 2014 as well? Vintage furniture will always be a part of any design trend each year but the concept is always evolving, whether it will take a basic root or collaborate with future concept. But the presence of it will always be visible. Reinventing traditional style to catch up with time can be tricky, if you can combine Indonesia’s traditional traits, for instance, Batik with modern styling, what would the end product be like? The end products can be anything, it depends on the main concept of the design. As accentuated panels, applications in fabrics, basic shapes of furniture, graphical patterns of space, or even just part of the accessories. Do you have any advice for those aspiring interior designers out there? Dare to be different and speak up Whatever the trend will be, one might have to listen to what this titan of interior design has to say. The result of her choice will definitely transform any room into a haven.

THE CASE

of PORTABLE SOUND

E

veryone who enjoys music must agree that hearing a song via earphones or headphones just do not cut it. Hearing it through a bass-filled speaker is clearly the way to go, but one speaker alone must weigh a ton, just to exaggerate. The people over at Blueshift has created a big speaker but it is so light that even a child can pick it up and sway to the sound of music. Hereby, Blueshift Helium Portable Speaker is the speaker to purchase, because not only does this bamboo cabinet covered speaker produces a crisp yet bassy sound but it offers a different perspective in looking at a portable device. First and foremost, The Helium Speaker is the first of its kind to be sporting a supercapacitor for its powering. This would mean that there will only be a minimum of time to charge this device, with a flabbergasting charge time of only 5 minutes which resulted in a 6-hour playing time, that is quite an achievement on its own. Imagine charging this beast for about 20 minutes, then you can enjoy non-stop music for 24 hours straight.

CARRY THE LOUDEST, CLEAREST SOUND WHEREVER, WHENEVER

HEREBY, BLUESHIFT HELIUM IS THE SPEAKER TO PURCHASE It has a Class-D amplifier that will boost any bad moods and turn that frown upside down, a FE 126E driver with a removable grill and a handbuilt bamboo cabinet to further the classic design that Helium is carrying. It combines classic look with futuristic detailing which allow users to pair their smartphones with the speaker via the miracle of technology that is Bluetooth. Create a wonderful time in a picnic just by playing party music via this speaker or feel the romance at a candle-light dinner with that loved ones. Whatever the choice, whenever and wherever, the Blueshift Helium Portable Speaker will accompany those moments and reshapes it into something wonderful.

IT REQUIRES FORTY TOUCHES TO RUMBLE THIS TABLE

ufficient to say that technology trend has been seeking bigger and wider mediums, smartphones are ludicrously bigger within every year, even television set can achieve wider resolution with the invention of a 201-inch television. With that in mind, the creative minds of ideum thought that they can achieve newer and higher grounds on what it takes to produce a technological breakthrough. Presenting ideum’s Pro Multitouch Table, the table with high technological prowess. It may look as every bit the same as Samsung SUR40 since the buzz within technological world is about highly powered coffee or dining tables that aren’t just for sipping a hot cup of joe or having dinner on. Pro Multitouch Table is a plethora of future days technology showcased in present time, it is frighteningly exciting how this particular gadgetry of a table can be a tool of many things. From the obvious purposes of plates, mugs holder, the Touch Table can be more than just a boring dining apparatus to a highly intellectual surface where children can dig deep for their knowledge thirst or adults to graze their inner child in playing with the abundance of games inside the NVIDIA Quadro 600 1GB graphic card.

IT IS FRIGHTENINGLY EXCITING HOW THIS PARTICULAR GADGETRY OF A TABLE CAN BE A TOOL OF MANY THINGS Aside from the graphic card, ideum’s Pro Multitouch Table has such specification as the 55-inch LED screen which can exude 1920x1080 HD display or the more impressive feature of 3840x2160 4K Ultra HD display, astonishing but far from finished. It has an Intel Quad Core i7 3770 (3.4GHz) with Hyperthreading, a 40-touch wide screen that can hold many users in one sitting. A larger than life Yamaha audio system that can rumble any hearts with its pumping bass sound, a built-in RFID and an integrated UPS. It also can come in many different and eye pleasing colors, whatever to suit the likings of the owner. Technology is an evergrowing thing and to have such technological gadget such as ideum’s Pro Multitouch Table is the definition of technology.

ne television set that is worthy to be put in a gigantic living room or an outdoor park, this mega machine is without a doubt the biggest television set that has ever been made in the twenty first century. The collaboration between C’SEED and Porsche Design Group has created a slick and elegant design to a television which is a breakthrough considering TV sets in the market all have the same looks and features. The 201-inch LED foldable screen for starter, it is the king of all LED screens out there in the market, nothing can compare to the crisp black of this titan screen, its HD color is to die for and the best part about C’SEED 201 is the sound that it produces, bass and treble blend into one unison choir of heavenly bliss. One of the main features of this incredible piece of television art is the retractable stand of the C’SEED which can appear out of thin air from the ground up. The 201-inch TV is perfect for say, watching an action movie or for instance, watching a thrilling game of soccer or American football. The design and mechanism of C’SEED 201 came from the beautiful minds of Porsche Design Group, it is scintillating to see the process from being in the ground to a full playing TV in just 40 seconds, that is technology at its best.

40

THE COLLABORATION BETWEEN C’SEED AND PORSCHE DESIGN GROUP HAS CREATED A SLICK AND ELEGANT DESIGN TO A TELEVISION

The obstacle that today’s LED TVs face is the clarity of the display when viewed outside in the middle of a bright day, the result would be this blackened screen which can’t be seen comfortably. The 780 thousand LED inside the display of C’SEED 201 is ten more times brighter than any other LED TVs available in the market today. Its specification includes High Resolution Retina LED SMD for its screen system, brightness up to 5000nits(cd/m2) and over 281 trillion of color, for sure the contrast of this humongous television set will be at its highest state. One more feature that comes with C’SEED is the Two-Faced Remote Control that not only can control the channels but also control the height and the angle of the overall TV physic. This is the future of TV viewing, when all of the brands trying to create big TVs but still in the vicinity of a living room, C’SEED breaks the fourth wall and placed the main function this monstrous display on the outside, making the 201-inch TV into an entertainment of a lifetime.

PROFILE

JACK OF ALL TRADES, MASTER OF EVERYTHING A TRUE VISION TOWARDS A CLEAN AND EFFICIENT LIVING

T

he perfect way to describe one Jens Martin Skibsted would that of a chameleon. It is simply astonishing what this designer, brand expert and entrepreneur can do, from making luxury brand bicycle to collaborating with two of the most distinguished characters in the world of design, namely Lars Larsen and Bjarke Ingels. Not mention that this refined young man is the embodiment of philosophical ideas towards a greener and healhier future for the next generation to enjoy. His resume includes the founder of Skibsted ID, the creator of Biomega and one of the main principals of KiBiSi and the list continues similar to the long sequel of hit franchise movies. Regardless of how many philosophies one man might take within himself, there will always one gleaming idea that carries a man, for Jens Martin that one idea is his own theory of ethics, He said “ethics is comparable to quality management and something to be improved on rather than something absolute.” And as for his designing philosophy, he added, “I believe that designs are evolutionary in nature and that those who reflect the strong ideas (memes) survive.”

44

THIS REFINED YOUNG MAN IS THE EMBODIMENT OF PHILOSOPHICAL IDEAS TOWARDS A GREENER AND HEALHIER FUTURE

ADOLESCENT DAYS “The Big Dane” Jens Martin Skibsted was born in Sonderborg in the mainland of Denmark and since early childhood, little Skibsted has shown some recherche ideas on how a sustainable future would be. He struck out to find the essence of art with his creation of Av-Art Association in Copenhagen, Av-Art itself is a combination of an art gallery, record label and a music/ poetry readings performance place all in one scope. Young Skibsted then attended École supérieure d’études cinématographiques, a high-profile film school in Paris, France. Later, Jens Martin received his bachelor degree in Philosophy from the University of Copenhagen before completing his master degree in Business Managament from the Univesity of California in 2000.

45

RISE TO STARDOM This prolific Danish man is a cornucopia of future ideas, it is simply written in his genes that someday, the boy from Sonderborg will create something ingenious and rule-bending that people all around him will just have to gasp and bewildered with awe everytime they see his inventions. Nowadays, that premonition became a true visage of Jens Martin Skibsted, he co-founded Biomega in 1998, “the world’s first luxury design brand for bicycles”, he said and added, ” The idea is simply that for the bikes to win over the cities they must be able to out compete cars in emotional appeal.” Although it is a mountain to climb for a bicycle to compete with a car, but his idealistic and green minded skull has given our society a breeze of fresh air to battle the pollution that has been corrupting the earth. His “Urban Mobility” concept is quite intriguing in that biking, walking and multi model transport are ways to counter that age-old problem which has been caused by the use of cars in every day life.

“MY CHILDREN ARE MY KIDS AND MY IDEAS.” –JENS MARTIN SKIBSTED

TRIPLE THREAT One other Skibsted magic is the creation of KiBiSi where he and two other superstars in the world of design produced. With Lars Larsen and Bjarke Ingels, Skibsted envisioned a design group that will… well, suffice it to say, a design group that will beat others into the ground, metaphorically speaking that is. But with the collaboration of three Scandinavian design groups into one, there will always be frictions that will come between three friends, this tall Dane begs to differ, “We all have the same approach to design, we are not just about what looks cool and it turns out we all have an evolutionary/Darwinian to design which is pretty crazy given that I don’t know anybody else who has that approach.” KiBiSi itself runs separately before putting the ideas into one conspiring bowl, which in his own words, “a perfect collaboration.”

46

@Courtesy of Skibsted ID

FAMILY IS EVERYTHING Call him an entrepreneur, a designer, a philosopher, a keynote speaker, a poet, you can call him a chameleon but what Jens Martin Skibsted is that the first and foremost is he is a family minded man before all of those things. “My children are my kids and my ideas”, he jestered, “but in my leisure time, I always spent it playing with my kids, travel and watch movies with them, stuff that normal dad would do,” he added some more. Whatever Jens Martin Skibsted’s profession, whether a designer, a cinematographer or a philosopher, he always try to make the earth into a clean and efficient world for generations to live in. In hopes of battling pollution in our own country, we asked “Skibster” some advice, he said, “instead of building more roads build safe passage for pedestrians and cyclists. That allows for more use of public transport and better space management. In Europe bicycles are 40% faster than cars on average during rush hour by the way.”

BORN TO BE A DEVELOPER, THIS FOURTH GENERATION PRODIGY STRUCK OUT AND MADE A NAME FOR HIS OWN

A BIRD

FOR FERNANDO ROMERO, CREATING SOMETHING FOR HIS OWN IS THE BEST WAY TO BECOME A TRUE VISAGE OF HIMSELF

H

aving a great grandfather named Alejandro Romero, the true developer of Mexico City’s recreational district in the span of 1920s to 1940s, can be a giant shadow to overcome. Even having a grandfather and a father such as Raul Romero Erazo and Raul Romero Zenizo can be a mountain to climb itself, but for Fernando Romero, creating something for his own is the best way to become a true visage of himself without neglecting the famous Romero name. Graduated from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico with a architecture degree, young Fernando ventured out to learn from the very best in the form of Rem Koolhaas. At his stint in OMA, Fernando Romero received the cold-hands treatment from the Koolhaas himself and that made Romero into the man he is today. Breaking out on his own, he invented FR-EE or Fernando Romero Enterprise to introduce to the million people all over the world about contemporary moment and culture through the eyes of one Fernando Romero. FR-EE has successfully become one of the foremost architectural firms today and Fernando Romero has become one of the bright young minds available to this date. One of his highest achievements is critically acclaimed Museo Soumaya. We took a chance to get to know about Fernando Romero, here are the result:

49

When and why did you decide to be an architect? I wasn’t convinced I wanted to be an architect until I finished architecture school. I ended up going to Europe, because I thought it was a challenging place to go. I was incredibly lucky to get accepted into OMA in Rotterdam, which turned out to be very good timing as I got to work closely with Rem Koolhaas, and the office was changing from one that was more theoretical to one that was winning international competitions. A lot of very talented people were there at the time, so it was really a very productive period for rethinking my own expectations about architecture’s possibilities. Can you tell us the fruition of FR-EE? I founded FR-EE when I returned from Europe seeking to translate the contemporary moment and culture through our architecture…this still is how we see and understand architecture. Your family has been in development for generations. Did this influence your decision to become an architect? Yes! My ancestors developed several boroughs and recreation districts in Mexico City throughout the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. My grandfather had a great and very avant-garde sense of aesthetics – he built a villa in the 50s where I spent my childhood. That place had a great impact on me in my very early years!

50

“I AM FASCINATED BY THE WAY YOU USE MATERIALS SUCH AS WOOD AND STONE IN INDONESIA.” –FERNANDO ROMERO

51

“I REALLY APPRECIATE MY YEARS AT OMA WORKING WITH REM WHO IS NOT ONLY AN INCREDIBLE ARCHITECT BUT EVEN MORE AN AMAZING THINKER.”

52

What styles or people would you say have influenced your work the most? I really appreciate my years at OMA working with Rem who is not only an incredible architect but even more an amazing thinker. As one of few, Koolhaas has made people think in a different way which is why he has been the mentor of so many young architects. I learned that there is not just one way of solving a problem. He was always open to seeing different translations. I realized in the end that the processes we engaged in were different translations of how to solve the same problem. Usually we were 10 different people with schemes at the table, he commented on them all and we kept working.

53

How do you see the cultural and architectural identity of Mexico? Mexico has always been in between conditions – this duality has influenced our architecture and made projects that would likely have stayed in the drafting tables elsewhere become a reality here! Being a young democracy that has achieved a high level of development, especially in technology, has given us more freedom and opportunities for experimentation. Take for instance our Soumaya Museum - The way we modulated the 1,000 different families of hexagons on the façade could not have been done in six months at any other moment in the history of architecture. The way we solved the circulation and addressed regulations would have been unthinkable outside of Mexico – a young democracy, open in terms of building regulations and with a stable macroeconomy. How do you feel about Indonesian design and traditional Indonesian architecture? I am fascinated by the way you use materials such as wood and stone in Indonesia. The relationship between indoor and outdoor will always be a point of interest and exploration in architecture.

54

FERNANDO ROMERO HAS BECOME ONE OF THE BRIGHT YOUNG MINDS AVAILABLE TO THIS DATE

@Courtesy of FR-EE

What do you foresee in the future for architecture, especially in Asia? At FR-EE we are constantly looking into new and better ways of designing and building.Looking at technological devices and their evolution, it becomes quite clear that its not only hardware/software that creates multi-platforms and different activities in the same space. I like to connect it with my idea for the future of urbanism: that you can actually overlap different programmatic needs in spaces that today are still separate. You live there, you work there and you enjoy there now... But as we evolve, as civilization evolves, as technology evolves we’ll be able to overlap more activities in a more innovative way and the built environment/architecture will and should be the translation of that. In regards to Asia more specifically, I very much foresee it becoming the epicentre for design. Asian economies and the governmental ambitions are developing an extraordinary context to develop contemporary architecture – and we would be truly honoured to contribute to this development.

A

n artist is always associated with a crippled mind of an insane asylum patient for obvious reason that an artist sees things differently from the rest of us. In the case of a particular individual named Simon Ma, that notion is valid although it is a very good thing that Simon Ma is crazy, crazy with creativity for the entire world to enjoy. From the brain of crazy Ma comes the likes of the gorgeous Rings or the mind-bending Melting Bubbles to the most recent creation, the Shangri-La are which are filled with exuberant feel and eccentric emotion within just like their creator. The artistic blood flows in this creative man’s vein since a very young age and at the age of almost 40, that artistic only grew stronger and sophisticated along the years. His creation, MA.Design is one of the most sought after art firms in this twenty first century, it is quite justifiable since their abstract art combine with contemporary flair has captured basically all of art communities’ hearts. LEARNED FROM THE BEST At a young tender age of only seven years old, young Simon received the guidance of a true master in the form of Fan Tzu Teng. Simon remembered his wonderful time his late mentor who sadly died in 2006, “besides teaching how to paint, Master Fan Tzu Teng taught me the principals of life and how to conduct myself”,

Simon then added, “He once told me that art isn’t just about how it looks but also the philosophy in it.” Lesson learned indeed as Simon Ma always striving to improve himself as it is a mirror image of what Master Fan Tzu Teng would do, “a never ending learning, that is life”, Ma recited, “I will never stop improving my skills, at the age of 80, Master Fan was always his brush strokes.” COLLABORATIVE CORNUCOPIA Simon Ma has established himself to be a courageous artist when it comes to breaking the fourth wall but he is also a sucker for mutual art piece which means working with artists alike or even celebrities, Aaron Kwok once collaborated with this mad man to create a gritty art piece in the form of a painting on a motorcycle. Master Ma then added, “I’m currently working with the legend, Fabrizio Plessi. We both find inspiration in water and nature but have different cultural backgrounds but I’m sure that we can bring our similarities and differences together in one artwork.” MUSIC, ART & DESIGN As it were mentioned before, an artist has always viewed the world in a different perspective and being an artist himself, Simon Ma has pictured the world at its bright sight. He explained, “I try to capture this beautiful and positive energy and use it to affect

and improve my surroundings.” His passion for life is limitless, his adoration to music has kept him in check, that is why MA.Design emerged from his hand. The simple initials of his love for Music, Art and Design is the essence of MA.Design and Simon Ma himself. This mad scientist can’t think of anything else besides those three things, his mind keeps on finding new ways to perpetuate MA.Design to high of the highest. In 5 years time, Simon has already planned out what will become of MA.Design, “With my current concept of DESIGN IN CHINA MADE IN ITALY, I’m really emphasizing on the strength of Chinese creativity. There is still a long way ahead, but I believe Chinese design in 5 years should be recognized worldwide as high quality and original. I have been a pioneer of Chinese design over the last 15 years and I will thrive to continue on that path”, he thoroughly explained. Simon Ma, a true definition of an eccentric artist. Every piece that he created has always invited a hefty amount of awes and admirations purely out of his innovation and refreshing ideas. In his status of a rockstar in art community, there still lots of things that can come from his eloquent hands. We as his admirers will simply have to wait until his next extravagant outcomes.

P

assion in something that drives people to do what they do and in case of Iwan Sastrawiguna, the passion for designing interior is well established. Ever since his adolescence day, young Iwan has been exposed to the elegance of a single furniture through the family business. Since then, the poised persona went to San Francisco to further his knowledge in the realm of interior designer, he came back to Indonesia after his quest in United States to form his own firm. The firm of Iwan Sastrawiguna interior design turned out to be one of the most prominent interior design firms in Jakarta to date, known for its refinement in every project that they had. We took the time to get to know this wonderful individual, here is the result:

60

Can you tell us your first ever designing project? When I was still in college, my friend’s mother asked me to assist her in designing her new condominium in San Francisco. I was reluctant at first because I was new in The States and was familiar only with metric system. AutoCad wasn’t out yet. I hand drew all plans on my new drafting table and measured in feet and inches. Space planning and furnishings were fun. However, I was short a few inches in fitting a built-in oven into kitchen cabinets. It was an embarrassing yet I was grateful to have been given the opportunity. In 1999, you opened your own practice amidst the worst recession Indonesia had ever seen, how did you cope with the situation? What was the hardest obstacle you had to face? I was fortunate that I was commissioned a lot of residential projects during that time. Many people bought houses that were left half done by their previous owners because of the economic recession. The new owners asked me to finish redesigning the houses they had bought.

You spent ten years living in California, has that West Coast style influenced your current designing style? Living in The States, I was influenced by so many things. Not only that I fell in love with the casual laidback California feel, but also I became more appreciative with my own culture. I love the diversity that I was exposed with in early years of my life. What are you working on right now? Residential projects in Jakarta, Surabaya, and USA. Hospitality projects in Malaysia - a wellness medical resort and kampong dusun wooden houses’ preservation. Describe your own style for us? I’d like to be a versatile artist who is always thirsty for a challenge. I have compiled residential, commercial and hospitality portfolio that range from modern tropical to classic grandeur, from the gleaming white modern to dark ornately detailed ethnic, from mediterranean to boho chic.

61

Do you have a personal designing hero or idol that you look up to? I love Peter Marino, Karim Rasyid, John Saladino’s works and visions. Locally, I admire Hendra Hadiprana who has been in the Indonesian design industry before I was even born. What made you decide that being an interior designer is your calling? My mom told me that my passion for interior design had shown since I was in junior high. It was because of my grandfather who was a passionate art collector, my parents and my elder sister who were in furniture retail business so I was able to encounter furnitures and home accessories every day. I always got personal satisfaction while I was rearranging furniture in their shops or at my parents’ houses. Attention for detail is quite demanding, do you have tricks to remember what do you have to do next in your designing routine? I believe each commission should be immaculately conceived, detailed, and constructed. It doesn’t matter whether the project is big or smalI. I always like to keep editing my design until I’m fully satisfied.

62

“MY PASSION FOR INTERIOR DESIGN HAD SHOWN SINCE I WAS IN JUNIOR HIGH” -IWAN SASTRAWIGUNA

What would you do if you weren’t an interior designer? I would be a writer, graffiti artist, or free spirited traveller who could visit an exotic different country every month and wouldn’t have to worry about leaving my work behind. What do you do on your leisure time? I like individual sports such as swimming, running, and podcasting, watching DVD, listening to music I selectively purchase from iTunes. I have to find solitude so I need to recharge by being alone. In your own words, who is Iwan Sastrawiguna? What makes him special? Iwan is just the perfectionist who appreciates the smallest detail. He is also capable of transforming something ordinary into an extraordinary. The future of Indonesian interior design is in safe hand with this sophisticated man, his handywork will be known for many years to come, it is destined in his blood.

THE

ISLAND THIS ISLAND IS FOR COUPLE ONLY

64

IT IS REPORTED THAT ANGELINA JOLIE HAS ACQUIRED THIS PRIVATE ISLAND

O

ne sumptuous private island, it seems to be in everyone’s mind but only subjected to the privileged ones. Those privileged ones include mega A-list couple of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie or known to the world as Brangelina. It is reported that Angelina Jolie has acquired a private island/private home near New York, approximately 50 miles to the north of it for husband, Brad Pitt. Not only did she buy a wonderful house and/or island but she bought the very best in the cluster of private islands near the great state of New York. The name of the island is Petra Island, the most special thing about this 11 acres piece of land is that it is remarkably shaped like a heart, the perfect gift to give someone on Valentine’s Day and rest assured, that this gift will trump any living present there is. Petra Island being brokered by the good people of Private Islands Inc. is without a doubt a pure gem, it contains two wonderful houses and not to mention it was designed by none other than Frank Lloyd Wright. The first design for the cottage was in the 1950s but the main building for Petra Island was built in 2008 and for many Frank Lloyd Wright admirers and even to laymen, the main building is considered to be one of his masterpieces.

65

Since there are two dwellings structured on the island, one is a 1,200-square-foot cottage and the other is a 5,000-square-foot main residence, the perfect way to describe this property is that of a vacation home with cottage that can be reincarnated as a guest house. Wrapped solely in wooden and natural colors, this mansion blends perfectly with the grey facade of rocks surrounding the island and coupled with the watery blue of the ocean, this manse becomes so much more than a place to lay heads at night. Although it is ripe with with natural substances, this palace of warm feelings is still frank Lloyd Wright’s love letter to future time. The combination between nature and modern contemplation is succinctly highlighted via the humongous skylight that can be found in the main residence.

66

REST ASSURED THAT BRAD PITT AND ANGELINA JOLIE WOULD TAKE THEIR EVER-GROWING FAMILY TO THE NEW HOME IN ORDER TO ENJOY A NICE GETAWAY FROM THE FLASHING LIGHTS OF HOLLYWOOD

Rest assured that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie would take their ever-growing family to the new home in order to enjoy a nice getaway from the flashing lights of Hollywood or basically everywhere since the ones that purchased this private island are considerably the most powerful couple of the film industry. The access to Petra Island is abundant, from a helipad right around the corner or by boat in the shape of a mini-pier located near the house. The perfect summer cottage, the crème of the crop in the world of vacation homes, whatever it is, believe that it will be a good home for the children to explore and the parents to relax and enjoy the sunset from Lake Mahopac. Safe to say, Brangelina has made the finest decision in purchasing this palace.

Fourth Son MEXICO’S PROUD PRODIGY OF ARCHITECTURE

THIS HOUSE OFFERS PRIVACY LIKE NOBODY’S BUSINESS

69

IT ADDS UP A PARTY FIESTA VIBE TO THE SEEMINGLY BORING HOUSE

W

hite is the definition of purity and innocence but too much white can be deadly, especially in the eyes. That is why the people of Hernandez Silva Arquitectos added colorful furniture and earthly ambiance to one of their masterpieces, Casa Cuatro or simply put, the Fourth House. From the outside façade, the house will look a little bit bland, but when viewed from the inside, that is where the manse becomes the party house on itself. Holed up in small gated community in the west part of Zapapon, Mexico, this house offers privacy like nobody’s business. But again, it maybe offers quietness and seclusion but once any guests join in on the fun that is the living room, the mood will surely change in an instant.

70

Inside the open living room, Hernandez Silva Arquitectos opted to go with blood-red color for the furniture to enhance the fun experience. Greenery also is featured in backyard of the Fourth House to immerse the contemporary style house with the earth. The mixture of San Andres grey stone and black America limestone strips for the flooring with a hint of wooden panel in several places suggest a perfect combination of contemporary and natural styling.

71

An addition of high-gloss lacquered walls donates depth and liveliness to the house and quite frankly, it adds up a party fiesta vibe to the seemingly boring house. The large space between the living and dining room tenders a playful space for children to flourish. The west wing of the house offers the glamour light of the sun to make the white color more bright in the daylight. On to the second floor, where a terrace can be seen and used in order to fulfill that relaxation state to the fullest. Overlooking the downstairs garden, it claims the throne to the kingdom of light that is Casa Cuatro. The contemporary house is secluded in the city of Zapapon and Hernandez Silva Arquitectos is right to put it there, privacy is important to many people and yet this house gives any occupant private and energetic experiences that can be found in a club or lounge.

CONTRASTING MIXTURES COAGULATE INTO ONE EPIC MANSION

74

The problem between client’s wants and the city’s building policy can be draining and this Coral Gables Residence is one of those examples of how contradicting needs can be a challenge for the architects to topple. Fortunately, the client chose Touzet Studio to build a house full of contemporary features but without neglecting the looming presence of tradition heritage inside and outside the mansion of dream.

TOUZET STUDIO CREATED A DECEPTIVE EXTERIOR THAT FOLLOWS WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF CORAL GABLES ARCHITECTURE RULING

75

The main problem that Touzet Studio had to face was that The City of Coral Gables has a strict zoning code that preserves traditional and historic values in every residences. That zoning rule contradicted severely with the owner’s need of having a contemporary style manse. Clearly a humongous problem but with little tweakings and modifications, the architecture firm managed to develop and create something that combines that best of both worlds. The Studio created a deceptive exterior that follows within the boundaries of Coral Gables architecture ruling but once inside the house, the design changes although not dramatically but still presents that much needed contemporary stylings. The house is dominated with the pure color of white that goes hand in hand with the bright light of the sun once the time reads afternoon but of course the perfect harmony between the house’s color and the sunray can only be achieved with the help from floor-to-ceiling glass windows that guarded the entire mansion with stern characteristic.

BEING IN THE SUNNY BEACH PART OF FLORIDA, IT IS SOMEWHAT A FELONY NOT TO INCOORPORATE PALM TREES

76

Being in the sunny beach part of Florida, it is somewhat a felony not to incoorporate palm trees around the Coral Gables Residence. It makes a flowing transition from the house to the natural backyard which include a glowing swimming pool with palm trees to the watery ways of the ocean just behind the luxurious two-story mansion. In the warm gleaming of the night, this house transforms into a merger of soft colors with again the pure white color of the house’s walls meeting with the cool blue of the water outside. The humid night of Miami, Florida is tackled by the gentle breeze of rich colors of this house. In the end result, the street view of this house that fits into the City of Coral Gables zoning rule meeting with client’s need of a modernistic façade was achieved and both contradicting sides came true on the other side, satisified and fulfilled.

DOWN TO THE LAST DETAIL, EVERY PIECE OF FURNITURE IS EITHER EXCLUSIVE OR UNIQUE AND HELPS TO CREATE THE HOTEL’S LUMINOUS, TASTEFUL ART OF LIVING

The eclectic leitmotif draws its inspiration from lacework, which creates a luminous atmosphere throughout: in the 25 bedrooms and two top-floor suites, as well as in the breakfast room. Sumptuous netting exudes haute-couture refinement here and there, while elsewhere carpet motifs are resplendent with delightful arabesques, matt tone-on-tone tiling, lustrous carved Krion© headboards. Iconic upstrokes and downstrokes of genius from the archives of tulle and lace specialist Sophie Hallette set the refined, cozy pace. A world of contrasts and creative diverted uses add to the modernity of the place: curtains made from wool cloth, a borrowing from the world of men’s tailoring, knitted quilting in handmade cashmere, graphic embroidered cushions, shimmering velvet partitions, silk cocoon or metallic mesh light fittings, desks with saddle-leather tops, blondoak curved coffee tables for uncluttered elegance, all come together in stunning harmony, for rigorous charm and utmost softness,

H

ennessey Venom GT is the Devil reincarnated! As a lightweight car, it is truly frightening what this car can do to the speed barrier. This car has been dubbed to be the world fastest car to date as it surpassed the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 with its acceleration and top speed. Essentially, this Venom GT is just an engine, because for its aerodynamic body and chassis, Hennessey Performance, known for their expertise in modifying certain engines borrowed a particular Lotus car, namely Lotus Exige. John Hennessey as the leader of Hennessey Performance once joked about putting the Venom 1000 Twin Turbo engine in the back of a Lotus Exige, but after a few sketches and rendering of the future car, the fruition of the speed wagon came to reality. Power-to-weight ratio of this car is extremely remarkable, carbon fiber material covers the entire body except for its roof and doors resulting in only 2,723 lbs of weight and as for its power, the Hennessey Venom GT is capable of oozing 1244bhp @ 6600 rpm but it is adjustable beyond the reach of 800 bhp, 1000 bhp and 1244 bhp. Also, the torque of 1155 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm gives a better understanding on how just terrfying this car really is. The Venom Twin Turbo consists of a V8 aluminium 7.0 liter engine with the redline being 7,200 rpm capable of hitting 0 – 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds. The clincher is this car holds the Guiness Book World of Records for the fattest accelerating car to hit 0 – 300 km/h in a merely 13.63 seconds and what is more impressive, the Hennessey Venom GT holds another record in the form of Production Car World Record for the number one car to achieve 0 – 200 mph in a gasping 14.51 seconds. This little car decimates competitions left and right, it belitttles a Bugatti in terms of speed, towering over pretty much every other cars in regards to its weight, it is worthy of such accolades as the fastest accelerating car in the world today.

Minds actually might wonder with those raw power and such a lightweight of a car, could this car swirl out of control or maybe fly off and crash? The answer is absolutely not, this car is as stable as the Stonehenge and fast as a speeding bullet ready to smite every evil inside, thus transforming this little devil into an angel sent from heaven to all speed chasers. Up until 2012, this VenomGT is actually illegal for purchase, but now it can be purchased from the price of 600 thousand dollars and as for 1200 horsepower version, it would cost around $1 million.

LAMBORGHINI MANAGED TO ASTONISH EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US AGAIN AND AGAIN

S

ince the dawn of birth, it is written in the stars that Lamborghini will be the epitome of all sports car for centuries. The objective that Ferruccio Lamborghini set from the beginning to produce refined grand touring cars has been imprinted in every launching of Lamborghini’s magnificent, larger than life cars. From the car that set ‘The Raging Bull’ on its way which was Lamborghini Miura, the touch of the Devil with Diablo, the chronicle of bats with Murcielago, and the day the earth stood still when Aventador rises from the ground, Lamborghini always succeeded in awing car enthusiasts and laymen in general. Now, one more special presentation comes from Lamborghini’s V12 garage entitled Veneno Roadster. The Roadster type stems from the the original Veneno which in itself is already a limited car presented as a gift to the 50th anniversay of Lamborghini, the single car alone costs in the likes of $3.9 million per car. The original Veneno has already been launched in the previous 2013 Geneva Motor Show with the specification of a modified Aventador’s V12 6.5L engine accompanied by 552kW and 740bhp, running from 0-62 km per hour in just 2.9 seconds, topping at 220 miles per hour. The one thing that Lamborghini couldn’t lose is their trademark V12 engine, when all of car manufacturers opted to go with the standard V8

110

or V6 engines, ‘The Bull’ is sticking to the brute force of 12 silinders strapped to the back of every of their cars in hope of launching every occupant to pure bliss of speed and consequently, the hope turns to reality everytime. Returning to the Veneno Roadster, brandishing the same futuristic likings to its brother like the all carbon-fiber and lightweight design, power-to-wight ratio of 1.93kg/hp, the CarbonSkin that engulfed the entire cockpit to better the driving experience and of course the high performance stability that Veneno coupe offers will be added in the Roadster type. The main difference as anyone may logically put together right now is the absence of the roof and the exposed cokpit for which speed demons might actually prefer. Imagine the wind blowing through hair when reaching that top speed of 220 miles per hour, one might consider wearing a protecting helmet and strapping in a racing suit when driving this superb car. With an extra $600.000 from the coupe version which add up to $4.5 million per car, any car freaks will enjoy the thrill and heart pumping experience of this very limited hyper car. The Veneno Roadster will be launched in 2014.

old firm to the back of the seat when driving this year BMW M6 Gran Coupe, not only does this current line brandishes a slick design known best to the world by the tasteful BMW styling, but inside the hood of the exuberant speed wagon is beyond any wild beliefs. Still clothed in the racing yet professional façade, the refreshed car is perhaps one of the best looking cars to come out of BMW garage. The low suspension that M6 offers allows drivers to be in a state of ease knowing that the traction that it produces is something short of an F1 car. BMW has always blessed car enthusiasts with reformed series of their well established cars, within the start of this year, BMW has announced the newer versions of M5, X5, 2-series, 3-series and many more, but whilst the line of series that will or already came out are sublime to say the very least, nothing will behest this pure beast. The BMW M6 Gran Coupe stands tall with its turbo-charged V8 engine withholding over 4.4 liter, exuding up to 560 horsepower in its rear wheel driving mechanism and its TwinPower

twin turbo is something that straight out the ingenious minds of the BMW scientists. Its maximum torque can reach the barrier of 500 lb-ft with maximum rpm reaching the vicinity of 1500 rpm. Absolutely astonishing is when this car can reach 0-60 mph in just a menial 4.1 seconds. Driver can push the envelope of speed with its 190 mph top speed, imagine driving this monster in the highway, reaching 190 mph in a straight line will take any individual and transcends their spirits into higher ground. Just as it were mentioned before, BMW doesn’t just prioritize the M6 Gran Coupe to be just a speed bullet, but also a working car to be driven in daily basis. The vision for this car is a fast car but with dignity, a young executive will be proud to drive this particular car in the main street prompting every eyes to look upon the car whilst maintaining that racing feel as well. Higher status isn’t just an exaggeration when it comes to this gran coupe, one might be hoisted onto an upper echelon of pride and status just by being inside this aerodynamic treat. BMW doesn’t just produce cars, they refined the meaning of luxury and speed.

Habitat for Luxury

The motto for Sky Habitat itself is to redefine urban living and quite frankly, that motto has been achieved with the scintillating and not mention dramatic design, the most simple words to describe this gigantic piece of art is two towers connected by three gardens acted as they are bridges. BOOK review

LOST IN SPACE SEEING FUTURE ARCHITECTURE WORKS, TODAY!

T

he emergence of this way ahead of time book is quite refreshing, one can see the future of architecture as it is being seen from space. This book combines the wonders of science fiction with the intricate work of architecture into one book that breaks all impossibility. For ages, science fiction has been dubbed as making something out of that impossibility or thin air, that suggestion coalesce with the imagination of an architect trying to convey his design into a sheet of paper and turn that sketch into reality. Imagine being outside of earth and living in a colony in Mars or maybe another planet that has not been discovered yet, this book reveals said imagination into reality and put it in into layers and layers of grade-A paper. Readers will be taken into a journey to a galaxy far, far away and experience firsthand what futuristic architecture is all about. Waves and waves of future buildings and what those buildings will be made of can be found and read in this fun yet informational guidebook, so to speak. Extending from 160 pages, this book offers hundreds of perspective from talented souls such as Ricardo Gonçalves, Reinier de Graaf, Alpna Gupta, Patrick J. Gyger, Dalia Hamati, Sara Hayat, Brian Horrigan, Julia van den Hout, Kellen Qiaolun Huang, Justin Hui, Andy C. Jenkins, Matthew Johnson, Damjan Jovanovic, Klaus, Joseph Kosinski, Simon Kristak, Jimenez Lai, Stephanie Lee, Sally L. Levine and Daniel I. Vieyra, Thomas Lozada and many others. The illustrations in this display book can flabbergast any readers alike, the suggestion of making Star Wars’ iconic structure, The Death Star into a real building is exciting and exhilirating to say the very least. It is a comic book for architect and architectural enthusiasts out there. How to create a structure similar to that of an UFO, it is quite fascinating to see how fiction and reality can walk together in perfect harmony to create irreplaceable art. Lumbung Restaurant and Sunbird Café both offer shaded, alfresco dining, magnificent ocean views, and fine Asian and Continental cuisine. Activities combine cultural insight with soft adventure. There is an amphitheatre for Sasak dance performances, a gym, and a spa offering treatments synonymous with the mystery and magic of Indonesia. You can practice yoga on the Tokek Bar terrace, take a lesson in Sasak pottery-making or weaving, or ask your butler to arrange a visit to a traditional market, a snorkelling trip to the nearby Gili Islands, or a gentle trek to two spectacular waterfalls.
