LUXURIA HOME & PROPERTY IS COMMITTED TO BEING YOUR ULTIMATE SOURCE FOR NEWS FROM THE ELITE WORLD OF LUXURY PROPERTIES

An American author, journalist, and lecturer, Gail Sheehy once said, “If we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow, we aren’t really living.” I couldn’t agree more, change is inevitable. It happens whether we’re ready or not and our journey through life involves a series of changes, some major and many minor. I have been a part of the media and publishing industry for over 15 years now and I can honestly say that I have seen the way we deliver news evolve over time. We do understand that our readers are successful individuals and powerful executives who do not have time to sit at their desks all the time just to read the news. They need to be able to access the news the way they want, where they want and when they want. LUXURIA Home & Property is committed to being your ultimate source for news from the elite world of luxury properties, at work, at home and, now, on the go. Thus, we challenge you to access our news digitally and from your mobile device, via Scoop, Wayang Force or Scanie. And I also believe that the world of luxury properties, like any other areas of the property market is never static; in fact it changes and evolves to reflect new ideas and designs to satisfy the buyers of luxury properties who want a home that reflects their lifestyle. This is strongly reflected on our cover, as you might have guessed, the 16/2014 issue of LUXURIA Home & Property covers the prestigious Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, one of the most important fairs dedicated to furniture, decoration and interior design. The coveted event features the next big trends in interior design from some of the world’s most talented designers. One particular brand that stands out during the 53rd installation of Salone del Mobile was MOOOI, that we highlight in our Special Report pages. This issue celebrates the art in luxury living in all its form and function. We bid homage to the designers and artisans of all art forms while offering solutions to your design needs. So grab your favorite snacks and brew, then sit back and enjoy the ‘Divine Design’ presented in the most exciting way! Lulu F. Pasha

MARKET EASING IN AUSTRALIAN PROPERTY PRICE

H

olding off to buy a house would be a logical thing to do for potential home buyers in Australia, especially in major cities, such as Brisbane, Darwin, Canberra and the center of it all, Sydney. Throughout the nation, suburb median houses have cut their prices for the significant, the growth over the early months of 2014 only shows 2% only and the most staggering news that Hobart has seen a slide in pricing, approximately 8.4% slide within these 12 months. In Sydney, the waves of house auctions that have been sweeping the city by the harbor have finally calmed down and with less and less affordable houses are available, the logical sense is that the pricing of that said houses will be reduced. For example with the Sydney action frenzy, a suburb plain house was sold AU$1 million above the price, thankfully that craziness has cooled down completely. The increase in house pricing over the Australian borders is just a mere 3.1 percent over the course of these four months and this drop in house prices will continue to drop further down but probably not as significant as everyone would hope for.

CANADA HOUSING AND REAL ESTATE TREND SLOWING DOWN

S

edation is the word to describe the current situation in Canada right now, the Great White north is seeing a “status quo in their real estate and housing development projects. As any other trend would suggest that an all time high has been reached and it is now time for a cool down, reports have suggested that The Canadian Housing trend has gathered over $1.7 trillion over the course of past years and this first quarter of 2014, the highest achievement ever since the year 2000. The following months will be a cool down in terms of house selling and also prices will be slumping down exponentially. This trend will be the definitive moment where home buyers, sellers, agents, developers and investors to take a step back, re-strategize and return to the market with fresh ideas. The Canadians will seek to improve in other sectors before eventually come back to the housing market which is very important to the Canadian government.

ARCHITECTURE FOR FREEDOM

ART AND ARCHITECTURE COMBINED IN ONE EVENT

22

REM KOOLHAAS AND THE CHAIRMAN OF LA BIENNALE DE VENEZIA, PAOLO BARATTA AGREED THAT THIS YEAR THEME WILL BE ABOUT FUNDAMENTALS

T

his year Venice Biennale will be a grand one and not just because the participants will be the highest crop of prominent architects to date but also this year’s Biennale will feature one of the living legends of Architecture, Rem Koolhaas as the curator of this amazing event. Rem Koolhaas and the chairman of la Biennale de Venezia, Paolo Baratta agreed that this year theme will be about Fundamentals meaning the event which will commence on June 7th and will go through until November 23th of this year will focus solely on the architecture and not putting the spotlight on the architects. The whole entirety of la Biennale de Venezia will lay on three aspects that will focus on time, Past, Present and Future, dissecting the event into three separate venues. Central Pavilion will be the venue for Elements of Architecture which will be the Past basis of la Biennale de Venezia where it will display the very basic fundamentals of any architecture, walls, doors, roof and many more. This appreciation for the first elements of architecture serves as the Past them of la Biennale de Venezia, Rem Koolhaas said that “ Traditional architectural elements – the ceiling and the window, but also even the façade – now belong to advanced technological domains, yet the fundamental elements of architecture endure, albeit in sometimes radically different forms.” Based on these fundamental elements, the exhibition will evolve from its parameters and explore with the forgotten aspects of architecture.

@courtesy of OMA

The second venue, the National Pavilions will host the theme, Absorbing Modernity: 1914 -2014. Constructing from the early Chinese, Swiss and Indian architectures, the presentation will display the evolution worth 100 years in the making. The influences over the span of 100 years will be displayed into one simultaneous exhibition, a medium to reflect where architecture has become today. Whilst the last part, Monditalia which will be held at Arsenale will celebrate the host of this magnificent event, Italy as a part of the Fundamentals that has been discussed before. Engaging beyond the world of architecture alone, this them will also depict certain technology, policitics, economy and religion into the mix for a better visual of how Italy as a nation become so diverse and immense. Venice Biennale or la Biennale de Venezia will be the host of a spectacular and grand architectural event and with Rem Koolhaas , the idol of so many architects out there served as the curator, save to say that this gala will be an instant hit.

INSPIRED LIVING SALONE DEL MOBILE WILL NEVER BE THE SAME

24

T

he second week of April 2014 was a joyous occasion for all art aficionados, particularly because the coveted Salone del Mobile reeled its magic carpet once more to all home furniture producers and designers to showcase their wondrous current and upcoming trend and style. One particular brand that stands out in the 53rd installation of Salone del Mobile was MOOOI and the accolades given to this particular stylish brand was justified for several reasons. For starter, the juxtaposition of each unique useable arts inside a 1.700 square meter of space was sublime, each furniture coalesce perfectly with one another and they didn’t raced one another for attention, the adoration of the viewers were equal and the industrial feel of the presentation, supremely satisfying when viewed from the center of the hall.

THE MOOOI TEAM BROUGHT A ‘TREASURE CHEST’ TO DISPLAY IN SALONE DEL MOBILE

First photo on the left: Love Sofa by Marcel Wanders; Photos on the right: The Presentation of Salone del Mobile 2014 Photographed by Nicole Marnati

25

The MOOOI team brought a ‘treasure chest’ to display in Salone del Mobile and that chest contains all of the new collection made perfect by MOOOI’s world renowned designers. Honestly, just by looking at those images, this remarkable producer of useable art has gathered some of the world’s best designs mankind had ever seen and of course, the best designers as well, the list of the design team includes Marcel Wanders and Casper Vissers, the co-founders of MOOOI, one of the aces of the brand, Alvin Tjitrowirjo, Danny Fang, Nika Zupanc and of course, the maestro in photography, Massimo Listri, leaving a continuous symphony of bold chairs, sofas, upholsteries and tables amongst other eye-succulent things. Notably Marcel Wanders, the Art Director of MOOOI started the MOOOI 2014’s Collection by rolling out his Zio Collection which feature Zio Coffee Table, a sublime dark wooden table accompanied by its own Zio Lounge Chair, again with dark wood as its structure covered with soft grey colored materials for its cushion, another zestful Marcel Wanders’ design is Bassotti Tables which plays on the black and white colors on a marble material for its surface. Other designs include Canvas 230 and Canvas Footstool and the hit of the trade, the Cocktail chair. Not to be upstage by their Art Director, the designers pulled out brilliant designs from their brains and came up with the likes of Taffeta Chairs from Alvin Tjitrowirjo which features colorful legs and flower patterns for the cushions which implies the perfect outdoor chairs although this chair collection can be the bright denominator for a gloomy family room. One other perfect example of how creative the MOOOI team is the presentation of Prop Light by Bertjan Pot. This Prop Light is a simple designed lighting apparatus yet it is unique, light bulbs being gathered and installed in a circular form or a row form and viola, Prop Light has been created, the idea is simple enough but it is very fresh that it intrigues all the eyes in the Salone del Mobile.

26

THE IDEA IS SIMPLE ENOUGH BUT IT IS VERY FRESH

@courtesy of MOOOI

One designer that caught everyone’s eyes is Alvin Tjitrowijo with his Taffeta Chairs, this Indonesian designer broke the rankings of MOOOI and presented to clients such a fascinating chair. The idea behind Taffetta is simple, a colorful framing with the extremely lavish cushion suggest loveable seating apparatus in a sunny Sunday setting and it is correct, one look at Taffeta, one can already imagine that Sunday BBQ party with the family all sitting on the chair and sofa of Taffeta. Not only that, tradition plays a humongous part in the creation of Taffeta as Alvin designed this chair to be an homage of local textile weavers as can see from the stitching of the cushion. The Salone del Mobile was a success for MOOOI team, their designs were stylish, meticulously constructed and the presentation of the furniture collection was sublime, even the prime photographer, Massimo Listri created a cornucopia of scintillating display due to how great the furniture is. MOOOI is design house full of creative thinkers and at Milan’s Salone del Mobile 2014, they really showed their muscles, game on.

ARTS & design

History, Tradition & Art OVER 50 YEARS IN THE MAKING OF THIS SUPERB ART FAIR

O

ne of the most prestigious and prominent art fairs has opened its door one more time, Biennale des Antiquaires, one mention of this event, everyone will turn their heads and admirations will ultimately come out of everyone’s minds, both in the art community and even laymen. SNA or Syndicat National des Antiquaires has been promoting the 27th edition of the Biennale in a World Tour which in their itinerary, the SNA has been gracious enough to include Indonesia as a part of the tour. The 27th Biennale des Antiquaires will be held on September 11th to 27th of 2014 which is far away from now but education about this event, particularly in the Asia region is much needed.

28

In this tour, the SNA has included into the mix, their President, Christian Deydier which by far, the most relaxed and fun person to meet. The multi-talented former chef and current archeologist which specializes in Chinese culture and artifacts suggests that the Biennale is meant for the eyes, although yes, it would be the perfect events for investment due to the high-priced arts that will engulf this fair, but for Deydier, the art in this event is meant to be enjoyed. He said, “live through the arts as I have done it as well”, that is the best interpretation for this 2-year event. Another famous individual that joins this world tour is the world famous jewelry master, Wallace Chan, the founder of ‘Wallace Cut’, promoting his work in the Biennale, among which is Now and Always necklace.

“LIVE THROUGH THE ARTS AS I HAVE DONE IT AS WELL.” -CHRISTIAN DEYDIER Now and Always necklace is just magnificent, it’s scintillating, it’s elegant, it is truly one of a kind, since everything that comes out of Wallace Chan’s hands is unbelievably rare. The Now and Always features an Aquamarine Wallace Cut diamond with 135.4 carat, now that particular insight alone is flabbergasting but when this necklace puts Blue Topaz, Sapphire and Opal amongst other things into the mix, then the rest will be history, to better put on how magnificent this necklace really is. Other contributors for this event include Cartier, Christian Dior, Bvlgari, Galerie Christian Deydier and Berko Fine Paintings amidst other high-grade products from prominent brands. If the 26th edition secured the hands of Karl Lagerfeld to helmed the design of Grand Palais as the venue for the event which was sublime, this year Syndicat National des Antiquaires has another acclaimed designer to take the mantle of Grand Palais designer, Jacques Granges is clearly a man who doesn’t need any introduction, his work with Yves Saint Lauren and Pierre Berge is more than enough to consider this man as the lead designer for this luxurious event. Other master builders…of food have been secured by Biennale des Antiquaires, master chef Michel Guerard and Michel Roth will be headlines for Charity dinner on September 7th which will see the skills of Chef Master Guerard and the Galla Dinner on September 9th will see Michel Roth cater the food and wines. Biennale des Antiquaires has been educating us for over 50 years, this upcoming edition will no doubt propel this bi-annual event into the highest ties of art events. Let the education begin!

ARTS & design

EXPRESSION FROM WITHIN ACTION SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS

30

U

p and comer artist, Donna Kukama has always uses her performances as a way to reflect on her thoughts and contemplating her strong performances, it is no wonder that her messages are well received. Donna Kukama’s stardom is just getting started and with her graceful acts, her visionary arts and her ambitious attitude, it will be a short time until the world has Kukama written all over it. South Africa’s crown jewel was born in 1981 in a town called Mafikeng and from a tender age, young Donna has shown early stage of artistic prowess and the rest should we say is history, she then went to Switzerland, Sierre to be exact to complete her postgraduate studies which she perfectly did at the Ecole Cantonale d’art du Valais in 2008 and after that her artistic wings flap to the highest of skies.

HER LATEST INSTALLATION WILL BE NAMED ‘THE VERY LAST ANNOUNCEMENT’

@courtesy of Blank Projects

Years after her graduation, Donna Kukama’s exuberant display of arts have been performed in various art fairs, such as Joburg Art Fair in 2009, ARCO Madrid in 2010 and many more after that. Her niche in multimedia art with the likes of performance, video, text and sound installations has created somewhat a fresh approach of performance art. Rebellious and vivacious of life are two main things one might expect from Donna Kukama and those qualities are depicted flawlessly in her crafts, one notable performance that she does is her sound work, where she narrates and repeats her text loudly in front of a crowd as a part of protest or in her case, a protest art. Her latest installation will be named The Very Last Announcement where she gathered various comments from visitor books of the South African Pavilion and then create one continuous text derived from those comments and shouts them through a megaphone as a part of

her protest of the South African frames being unreliable. This is a very intriguing approach to expressing angst rather than turn to anarchism in order to create a noise, this performance/protest art will be perfect if implemented in South East Asia, where anarchy and inability to express anger properly are the dominating factors in combating from unruly governance. Rebellious is the insignia of Donna Kukama and as it’s been said before that her stardom is only in the first stage, this will be a guarantee that this foxy lady will be a part of world’s culture and art history in the future. Her arts are bafflingly gorgeous, meticulously invasive of certain injustice, vulnerable yet strong and most importantly full of zest. Remember the name Donna Kukama and her following arts in the near future.

MAKE IT RAIN SHOWERING NEVER LOOKS SO EXCITING

THE UPSIDE-DOWN SHOWER IS THE SOLUTION TO LIVEN UP THE MOOD

N

o matter how everyone is doing it, showering can be a boring and routine way to cleanse oneself. It becomes more of a chore than a necessary way to refresh the body and purify the pores, even showering with MP3 Player placed inside the shower is not entertaining enough. The Upside-Down Shower from Viteo is that solution to liven up the mood for showering, just the mere idea of it is refreshing, imagine yourself being showered from the bottom up, it is scintillating idea to look at a shower. This circular plastic and stainless steel can be installed inside or outside depending on the occasion but from the excitement this showering apparatus can do, it is best that the Upside-Down Shower is placed on the outside. The idea is very simplistic yet implies fun in every sprout of water that it carries. The weight is only 16 kilogram and a measure of 78cm x 78cm and the way this shower circle works is that the water, plug in into the water channel of the house of course, gets squirted from the bottom in an upward motion, allowing the water to come down again which means that Viteo Upside-Down Shower offers a double-showering experience instead of the usual one-time only showering sequence by any ordinary shower.

Tingling sensation will be felt from the bottom and the rainy day sensation will be experienced once the water comes down, it is not very intricate of a procedure yet exhilarating just to watch. It is literally having your own fountain circus at the back of your house, one of the main features that one might find in this circular treat is that it can easily be hooked up with any garden hose to sprout water, no need for complicated installation for the water to come out, that is why Viteo Upside-Down Shower is best when put outside near the infinity pool, clean that body after a dip in the pool or have a child’s play with the kids on a Sunday afternoon, because this gadget is very fun that it can intrigue you inner child to come out.

FANCY THERE CAN ONLY BE LAVISH LUXURY WHEN TALKING ABOUT EMILY TELLIER

hen talking about luxurious and elegant things, one does not need to look further than the aristocrat-esque Christofle brand. Christofle has been known to worldwide as the very best in flatware and home accessories and it certainly does not hurt when this brand comes from the capital of fashion, France. When first emerged in 1830, Christofle was subjected only to the kings and queens of the France region, but with time, Christofle has evolved into a versatile brand ranging from jewelry, flatware and even USB flash disks. When Christofle’s wings spread into South-East Asia, it meant that Christofle had to find someone qualified to represent the elegance in the name of Christofle, enter Emily Tellier. One look at this gorgeous lady and one can see why Christofle pick this experienced individual, her graceful act and her professionalism are some of the trade but from the way she talked, lux and elegance can be felt out of her.

CHRISTOFLE HAS EVOLVED INTO A VERSATILE BRAND RANGING FROM JEWELRY, FLATWARE AND EVEN USB FLASH DISKS

49

PROFILE

We took the time to sit with this lovely woman and get to know the company that she work for: The Baby Gifts Collection, I found that unique and unusual, what is the story behind the collection? The Baby Collection has been in Christofle from the beginning in 1830 and as you know that it is a part of tradition in the French culture for a newborn baby to received presents from his/her godfather and godmother in a form of silver spoon and so on, with of course, the baby’s name engraved in those items. Another interesting note why people give silver to babies as presents in the old days, it’s because silver can kill bacteria, so French people at that time would give water to an infant baby and the silver would actually purify that water so it is safe to digest. Hence, the term ‘born with a silver spoon in the mouth’ which the tradition can be seen until now in France. I’m always fascinated on how jewellery gets made, where do the materials for the collections come from? For the jewelry, all of our products are made from sterling silver and most of them came from France and Italy. And as for out cutlery products, all of the silver are specifically from France as we want to keep it authentic French silver. Christofle is known to collaborate with distinguished designers, how do you make that approach to a designer? Christofle has a R&D department much like other companies where we scour the world for artists to work with, that would be the first approach. The second one is that we contacted the artists themselves, say that we want to work with them because we are fascinated with them.

50

THE WAY SHE TALKED, LUX AND ELEGANCE CAN BE FELT OUT OF HER

What can you tell us about the LaCie Christofle Sphere Hard Drive? Actually, this isn’t the first time we collaborated with LaCie, we made the USB flash disks first and then we dived into the technological part a little bit more with this Sphere. We decided to collaborate with LaCie because they’re the one of the bests in the technological world and we want to associate Christofle with the best brands, because Christofle is Christofle, it seemed logical. Will we expect more technological products from Christofle and LaCie? Not at the moment, but we still continue our collaboration with LaCie for the future, so it will take a few years for the next product. The Sphere was just released about months ago and the Galet was about two years ago, so yes, probably within two years or so, we will release another technological product. You said that the Jakarta Showroom is still an old concept compared to the Singapore Showroom, why is that? This Jakarta showroom was opened two or three years ago and the new concept was released in September 2013, so it will take some time for the renovation to actually commence but I do hope we can start the complete renovation of the Jakarta showroom this year, probably around September also. What is your plan and expectations for Christofle in Indonesia for the future? I would like to create more Chistofle events in Jakarta and create brand awareness, to be more active. To develop the Indonesian and Malaysian markets more because these countries have such potentials because Singapore has done tremendous and we need to further the Indonesia and Malaysian market to be at Singapore level. @courtesy of Christofle

DESIGN DIVA

PLEASE BE KNOWN THAT IT IS THE GOOD KIND OF DIVA

W

hat more can be said about Diana Nazir except excellence, this fair lady has been in Indonesia’s interior design landscape since the year 1991. She is responsible for the creation of Artura Insanindo, one of Indonesia’s top leading boutique interior design firms, when people heard the name Artura Insanindo, they will instantly remember how unique this brand is, how out of the box the design team really is and open minded they are to all contemporary design yet still embracing the tradition incepted into the modern concept.

52

Safe to say that Diana Nazir is one of Indonesia’s designing divas, in the sense that all of her creations have epic values in them and her accolades are the proofs that she is the real deal. Another milestone to Diana Nazir and Artura Insanindo is ICAD or Indonesia Contemporary Art & Design which is an event that belittles all art events in Jakarta, it is simply astonishing to see artists from all genres of artistry gather in one event and discuss the current trend and future as well. This is how incorrigibly beautiful mind one Diana Nazir has, to gather all of art fields into one house, a true ingenius from her part.

We took a sit down and learn something from this diva, here are the results: Can you tell us your latest projects? There are currently many projects that Artura Insanindo has dwelled in, The Edge phase 2, it is a luxury hotel at Uluwatu Bali. McClaren Indonesia’s lounge and showroom at Sentul, one of the Aston Hotels at Pluit Jakarta and Die Bold office at Jakarta. Describe your style of designing? I believe in design process. I enjoy cultivating ideas and desires of the client and turn those into a functional and aesthetically pleasing design. After planning, I usually define the style; most of my project styles are modern and eclectic. I always try to optimize the local material, skill and culture as the focal point. Artura Insanindo has been one of Indonesia’s most prominent design firms for 23 years now, can you tell us how that came to fruition? In term of design we try to develop something ‘new’ to refresh the ideas, every year we produce new design product, new treatment of material, and of course fresh ‘style’ and ‘trend’. How do you approach yourself to clients when facing stiff competition with much younger companies? For some specific clients they need designers with more experiences, loyal, and can be their ‘good partner’ as well and we are that kind of designers. Since design world is a ‘big cake’, I believe everybody will get their own piece. We always pick our clients that suit our capabilities and skills. And thank God most of our clients are loyal and sticking with us until today. Artura Insanindo has always been linked to out-of-the-box creativity, what do you consider to an out-of-the-box design? In our studio, our basic thinking is how to make things different from others. So, for me out of the box design is the built in design thinking to make something new. It’s all in our design attitude. It is not easy; we have to crunch our creativity more. That’s why we do more ‘custom design’ instead of buying products. Can you give a hint on what trend can we expect in 2014? For living room, kitchen and bedroom. In the living room, you can expect casual, more personal, oversized furniture with monochromatic scheme, lighting and technology as a focal point. For the dining room a more eclectic, pastel and natural scheme which spells warm and artsy environment. Lastly, kitchen will see a little bit cool scheme, simplicity, high-tech yet friendly kitchen gadgetries.

ANOTHER MILESTONE TO DIANA NAZIR AND ARTURA INSANINDO IS ICAD ICAD is simply one of the best events Jakarta has ever seen, can you tell us the story behind the creation of ICAD? ICAD is a manifestation of the idea of interdisciplinary collaboration that was first initiated in Indonesia. We created a movement where design and art can blend together, dissembling the borders between the two subjects. Our goal is to be able to inspire people through art and design. ICAD has been appreciated by many people and mass media beyond our expectations. Hopefully in the future, we can keep inspire people through art & design in ICAD. Nowadays it seems that contemporary styling has dominated the designing landscape, how important is it to preserve that traditionalism? Especially in Indonesia. Very important. Designers as the agent of change have that responsibility to protect and preserve our tradition and culture, but we can do it more creatively in many ways. By mixing our tradition in modern style, we will produce amazing contemporary style. Where do you see yourself and Artura Insanindo in 5 years time? We look at Artura as more ‘boutique’ creative and design firm. We are not big and mass, we intend to do something special and limited. In your spare time, what do you like to do? Like any other designers and a normal human being, I like to spend my time art browsing, reading, watching movie and cooking. Any words of advice for all aspiring designers out there? Every human are designers, try to find your ‘unique creative strength’ to produce your masterpiece.

THE DEPTH OF A MAN

IF THERE IS A MAN WHO HAS WITHSTOOD THE SAND OF TIME, IT WOULD BE SERGEI TCHOBAN

54

“I BEGAN DRAWING AS A CHILD.” –SERGEI TCHOBAN

S

ergei Enwerowitsch Tschoban or simply Sergei Tchoban is one of the main characters that molded and created our modern day architecture, he is truly one of the most respected architects of all time being at that same stage as, Rem Koolhaas and Zaha Hadid. The experience that this man brings to the table is without questions, he takes the experience that he had received in his younger years and envisions a modern take on his past and current project but not avail from his roots as a Russian born man. Sergei’s projects, both past and current are diverse in styles and details and not constricted into traditionalism, that vision is to always striving forward has always brought Sergei Tchoban as the front-runner of today’s architecture. His accomplishments feature some of the best architectural works the world had ever seen, building such as Federation Complex and House by the Sea in 2008, Ubhokov Center in 2009 or the Tchoban Foundation, a museum for architectural drawing that Sergei Tchoban dedicated for his love of drawing has cemented his name in the architectural Hall of Fame.

55

THE TIME THAT DEFINES Sergei was born in Leningrad, Soviet Union in 1962. Some might say that Leningrad is a hard place to grow up, but what some consider to be a hostile environment, young Sergei consider his birthplace to be a basis to flourish his drawing skills. Indeed, from a tender age, Sergei Tchoban, like most children his age at that time love to draw but Tchoban’s drawings were full of details. “I began drawing as a child, went to art middle school and received my degree in architecture at the Russian Academy of Arts in Leningrad, Soviet Union, formerly known as the Ilya Repin Institute of the Russian Academy of Arts”, he explained. Tchoban eventually left the hometown after an invitation from the Association of German Architects came to his doorsteps, Sergei Tchoban was a freelance architect based in St. Petersburg (formerly known as Leningrad) when that invitation arrived in the early 90s. Sergei continued on, “I moved to Hamburg, Germany, where I started working at the architectural office, Nietz, Prasch, Sigl Architekten, later nps & Partner. After our successful collaboration, I joined the partnership and became head of the office in Berlin in 1995.” They say hard times define a true man, those glorious years of Sergei Tchoban’s life has ultimately given him experience that he so direly need in making his mark, he then adds, “The story of my early life encompasses many chapters, mostly all of them relate to architecture that lead me to where I am today.” Indeed, it did.

SERGEI ENWEROWITSCH TSCHOBAN IS A MAN OF VAST EXPERIENCE

57

“THE STORY OF MY EARLY LIFE ENCOMPASSES MANY CHAPTERS, MOSTLY ALL OF THEM RELATE TO ARCHITECTURE THAT LEAD ME TO WHERE I AM TODAY.” –SERGEI TCHOBAN

58

DETAIL IN THE WORK Any architect will tell you that detail in designing is very important for the construction of a building, but to Sergei Tchoban, detail is everything, detail is not just about a must, but it’s a philosophy in his life. “The observer’s eyes needs to be satisfied, gradually while approaching”, he explained and added, “Imagination is the catalyst of my designing process. Also the atmosphere of the space with its depth and history becomes a part of my creative flow.” In order to create a realization out of that said imagination, detailing in high grade is extremely needed. Sergei often talks about the holistic approach in building his projects, he then thoroughly said, “to create a design code that enables users and visitors of the building to identify it visually not only from its exterior, but also the interior: Beginning with the urban setting of the façade all the way to the small detail on a door handle or a facet.” Creating and looking at a design as a whole not just some parts. GIVING BACK Drawing is Sergei Tchoban and vice versa, Sergei came to Hamburg with box full of drawings and will continue to play the biggest role in his life. He literally cannot stop drawing for the sake of his life, when asked what do he like to do in his spare time, Sergei instantly replied, ”walking through cities and visit places that are worth drawing.” And for all the accolades drawing has given him, Tchoban dedicated a museum in honor of his passion, the Museum of Architectural Drawing or in other words, Tchoban Foundation is a place where a simple drawing of a building is highly rated. His never ending love to drawing will ultimately spell more good things for the coming years. Sergei Enwerowitsch Tschoban is a man of vast experience, strings of lessons can be learnt from him, his many list of awards are his credentials to prove to the world that the founder of SPEECH Tchoban & Kuznetsov, the founder of Tchoban Foundation and founder of ST Design as well as one of the partners of nps tchoban voss is as good as his achievements.

MINK BEFORE

YOU ACT

THERE IS A NEW WORD, IT’S CALLED MINKING

60

“MY STYLE IS PRIMARILY WHAT I CALL SUPER ASIA” -MINK TAN

S

ingapore has always been the epitome of creative minds, especially in the fields of architecture and one of those minds is Mink Tan, a Penang-born man with internationally credibility. Studied abroad at University of Sydney in the 90s, Mink Tan settled in Singapore in 1999 and constructed Mink Architects and the rest shall we say is history but not neglecting the many awards Mink Tan and team have gotten over the years, such as The International Design Awards Chicago in 2012 amongst many other accolades. His vision to fuse modern contemporary styling with naturalistic Asia’s landscape has infused those two contrasting elements into one simultaneous style that could only be regarded as Mink style. We got a chance to sit down with the man and Minking together, here are the results:

61

Describe your style to our readers? My style is primarily what I call Super Asia, basically a modern and at times cutting edge - looking design yet with a deep sense of Asia about. It is beyond the typical and traditional Asia, and something that captures the spirit of Asia yet imbued visually with a strong sense of ultra-modernity hence the moniker of ‘SuperAsia’, meaning beyond or superseding Asia. Something that looks very modern yet feels Asian; if you can fathom that! Very hard to describe and easier to illustrate. Can you tell us some of your latest projects? One of our latest projects is something that embodies our design philosophy, a house for a very prominent family in Kuala Lumpur, on an almost cliffhanger of a site. It is quite unearthly and surreal, but amazing in our eyes, of course! The house literally folds out from the ground like skins of a rock, akin to facets of a precious diamond and hints of cultural nuances abound with the ikat-inspired screens that shield the open bath from the main road and the seven stories that are sculpted into a cascading Bali rice terraces to blend the house into the landscape. Is there an architect that you consider to be your idol? And why? It’s Glenn Murcutt, the only and totally deserving Pritzker Prize winner from Australia. An incredibly passionate architect and an amazing man who changed the way I look at architecture just through attending some of his lectures back in my school days whose architecture is so incredibly functional yet in a poetic and unmistakably beautiful way that it has touched and influenced a whole generations of Australian architects, including myself - in the process, singularly created an authentically Australian style that resonates with the psyche of being in Australia and being an Australian. Furthermore, up till the time when he won the Pritzker, he’d always maintained a solo practice and preferred to work alone, literally alone without any permanent staffing, as he believed in designing, drawing & detailing everything himself because he was so passionate about every single piece in his buildings, even the rainwater gutter, which he literally turned into a work of art! Amazing man, that’s all I have to say!

Being an architect for over 20 years, you must have exciting experiences. Can you tell us your most exciting experience in designing and the most frustrating experience as well. My most exciting experience in designing would have to be when we were commissioned to design what would have been the first Armani villas in Asia, or possibly the world! In order to convey his message across, our client - a Malaysian-based conglomerate - brought us to his own resort in Phuket, and his private island Pangkor Laut to let us experienced what he had in mind which was to revive the Golden Age of Oriental Indulgence, a period when China was already enjoying the finery of life while the rest of the world was still mired in barbarism, and that is a concept that is still so exotically intoxicating to me that I’m always on the lookout to realize this beautiful dream one day. To cap it all up, the client even flew us to Milan, where we finally met Mr. Giorgio Armani himself. The most frustrating experience would have to be our bamboo inspired resort project in Lin An, a bamboo forest about an hour away from Hangzhou, China. We completed the design for both the architectural & interior design for this minimalist yet nature-inspired resort, only to be told later that the project could not go ahead because the land had to be returned due to the local farmers’ protest. How important is it to preserve the traditional Asian heritage? What have you done with your work to hold that heritage alive? I feel it’s extremely important to preserve our traditional heritage, because it is part of our cultural roots and embedded deep into our collective subconscious even, to deny it would be to deny our existence, but to embrace it would be akin to nourishing our soul. For me, I’m more interested in preserving the essence of our heritage rather than the mere form or look of it. Things like communal living, reverence for all things nature, tolerance of differences, contrasts and contradictions, modesty and humility, resulting in such architectural traditions and heritage as courtyards, pavilions, gardens as an encapsulation of the great nature, screens and the primacy of the great roof form. Like our 7-storey bungalow in KL, Malaysia, where we evoked the world of rice terrace fields to cascade the house down a five storey hilly slope, turning each floor into a glass pavilions that can be private on its own. Our Armani villas are also a statement in preservation of heritage, what with the villa being broken down into a series of almost transparent glass pavilions that are then connected yet separated by water and nature, to be all topped by a great arching roof to symbolize the primacy of the roof in this part of the world where shelter against the sun and rain are everything. The glass pavilions are further veiled by screens of varying patterns & motifs to help differentiate between the different villas, giving individuality to each individual home owners.

“MAINTAIN YOUR PASSION AND KEEP YOUR FIRE ALIVE” -MINK TAN Where do you see yourself in five years time? In five years time, I’d like to see myself spearheading unique developments that embrace the concept of living in a city, a world where residences and hotels are blurred, peppered with trendy and fashionable restaurants that add to the hip quotient, something that will revive the dreams of that legendary modernist architect - Le Corbusier - and his ideals of a vertical city or vertical village. Do you have any advice to the aspiring architects out there? Be a great listener and open- minded to different opinions and ideas, especially from the client - as I’ve learned possibly the most from some of my clients, just through listening and absorbing some of their ideas, that’s how we can break out of our comfort zone and try something different. Also, learn to add real value to your client, and give your client what he or she needs, provided it is within bounds of reasons, as it is now becoming increasingly our role to create something beautiful out of requirements and needs that may not be necessarily within our controls. Lastly, maintain your passion and keep your fire alive and keep fanning that passion alive through knowledge, listening, and seeing, and believing that, a better world is possible and out there and dreams can come through, quoting that famous Brazilian writer, Paolo Coelho.

f today you don’t feel like doing anything, why not do it in a house that is locked out of heaven for being too beautiful to live in. Pop idol Bruno Mars is selling his house in the tropical place of Hawaii and it is sublime, the simplest word for this house. The beach front property is exotic, ornaments and accessories indicative of Hawaiian culture can be seen throughout the house suggesting a traditional yet vibrant towards modern time. From the exterior viewing, this house designated at 415 Portlock Road does look like an ordinary yet expensive mansion but the interesting part comes when it is entered.

THE BEACH FRONT PROPERTY IS EXOTIC, ORNAMENTS AND ACCESSORIES INDICATIVE OF HAWAIIAN CULTURE

65

THE HOUSE SUGGESTING A TRADITIONAL YET VIBRANT TOWARDS MODERN TIME

66

Inside the house, the earthly surroundings and beach experiences accompany guests to create a seamless transition from outside to inside. Exoticism of the highest grade can be felt inside this crooner’s house, authentic Hawaiian hardwoods are used as pillars and as a part of the cabinets inside the house while highly constructed Hawaiian marble stones are the floors for each and every room and even some part of the back-part lawn and swimming pool area. The mansion is the host of 4 magnificent bedrooms and 4 and half bathrooms, again all of the bedrooms and bathrooms incorporate the exotic touch of Hawaiian culture into a blend of modernity/traditional fusion. One of the bedrooms even has beach written all over it with white/light blue coloring for the walls and a little buoy for the ornaments and a collection of seasoned palm tree leaves to accentuate the windows. The house stands on 0.36 acres of land but only managed to score 4,124 square feet of property, the ratio might feel a little slanted but who wants a big house when much can be done with such land, such as a island-esque swimming pool surrounded with palm trees and a cabana filled with the necessity for a pool parties, like a grill and a relaxation area accompanied by a kegerator.

THIS MANSE STILL OFFERS THAT NEEDED WARMNESS THAT EVERY FAMILY NEED

69

Although the traditional vibe of this house is exponentially big since the house was completed in 1991 which has been 23 years since its last modification to stay with the times, this manse still offers that needed warmness that every family need, that beloved base for happy living that has been lost throughout the span of 23 years, the togetherness of one single family that seemingly has been destructed by smartphones and laptops. This house, being represented by David Buck from Hawaii Life Real Estate Brokers is one of the last remaining gems of the yester eras when people still appreciate the meaning of a family fun. Exciting and fun yet it can deliver that certain warmness inside the house, having authentic Hawaiian culture for its ornaments and cornices, this house is a genuine home full of capabilities to entice, cajole and embrace every occupant with true family value. @courtesy of Hawaiii Live Real Estate Brokers

luxurious home doesn’t have to be modernistic and futuristic, that is quite simply the vision that Hernandez Silva Arquitectos had in mind when designing Casa Siete. Casa Siete or in English term meaning The Sevent House is rife with natural presence, although it may incoorporated some contemporary flair to its existence, but over 90% of the house is immersed with mother nature. Starts with the opening of the house, surrounding Casa Siete are these tall trees, guarding it from the influence of today’s pop culture. From the outside, one can see the wooden walls of the house that gives a much needed natural feel. The mixture between earth and space can be found in the entire house, starting from the main room which contains family room, dining room and a passage to the backyard, all of those features completed with glass windows for better sunlight and it does gives any occupants rays and rays of UV light.

THE HOUSE WILL LIGHT UP WHEN IN THE ABSENCE OF LIGHT

73

Marble white walls with wood panel floors suggest a happy mixture between two different styles, the room looks simple and yet not too mundane to look at or to live in. It will definitely gives the home owners a comfortable caress that may keep one’s body in the sofa. Just by seeing the picture of the house, it can melt one’s heart with warmth. The house will light up when in the absence of light, lighting in the front stairs might make people wonder if they are entering a spaceship, because it will look like a launching pad to the heaven above. When lit up this lucky number seven will light up the neighborhood similar to that of a christmas tree. It just begs for attention and it deserves all the attention. The L shaped house is open to a wide air space but it also provides the privacy that is needed most of these days. The second floor ambience is more into the tuning of modern arts with more concrete walls and flooring to better the transition from the earth to the space in this house. The house is settled nicely in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, uphoisted in the wealthy part of the town, this house brings elegance and formality into the scenery. It is a quite a breeze of fresh air to see this house from the outside but when inside, the breeze turns into a warmth of the earth coursing through one’s body to fulfill that gap between human and mother earth.

ABSTRACT ALERT! INTRODUCING THE HOUSE WITH ODD SHAPES AND QUIRKIER CORNERS

76

LA PISCUCHA CAN BE CONSIDERED WACKY BUT COMING FROM AN UNIQUE SURROUNDINGS

77

U

ntapped sources of green lands, building a house in the middle of nowhere are the thing to look out for in 2014 and that being said El Salvador, a developing country some might say, is currently the best place for wildlife to run free and architects to play crazily with their minds in creating a unique product. Local architectural firm, Concopatasalgato has chosen a secluded site in the city of Los Sue単os, Santa Tecla to harvest their God-given talent and the result is sublime.

78

La Piscucha, designed to be a unique top of the hill mansion overlooking the majestic Pacific Ocean and by the looks of the images alone, La Piscucha can be considered wacky but coming from a unique surroundings, it is no wonder that the house has to up the level of unique to follow the landscape. The layers of La Piscucha are scintillating to pick off, the first layer is the terrain or the land itself, built on a slanted hillside, the house needed brackets to be used as a platform and voila, a concrete structure at the end of the layers works as a basement for the luscious house. The second layer is the gorgeous house itself, built superbly with the help of grey concrete floors mixed with white walls and wooden flattery here and there – it blends fluently with the miles and miles of green situated all around the house.

THE FEEL OF A SUMMER HOUSE IS THE MAIN PURPOSE

79

80

THE ROOF IS IMMENSELY UNIQUE

The feel of a summer house is the main purpose for building this manse, entering the master bedroom with a ceiling-to-floor glass window as its main greeter just spells resort-like feel to La Piscucha. Overlooking the main attraction which is the sea is astounding, imagine gazing upon that sun ray in the morning and plunging to the infinity swimming pool downstairs, heavenly as this is life at its fullest. The third layer is this steel frames surrounding the upper level of the house, designed specifically to hold the fourth layer, which is this white hue-ish transparent roof or canopy that resembles wings, ready to take this house on a incredible journey. The roof is immensely unique that gazers can see what goes on the terrace or the balcony, truly amazing. The idea is very fresh yet incredibly simple, but of course Cincopatasalgato hasn’t forget the necessity of green features with this mansion, waste water treatment can be found within this house and also using a separate stormwater as well to ease up on the consumption of water, solar panels can be found also providing a necessary energy-efficient lighting and lastly, the wooden coating mentioned before is reused materials. Admiring cannot be undone with La Piscucha, it is remarkably brilliant designing, planning and constructing that made this beautiful house happen. Bravo to the brains behind this beauty.

ONE HOUSE THAT CAN BE CONFUSED FOR A PRIVATE RESORT VILLA

PALM TREES ALSO PLAY A PART IN CREATING THAT “COPA CABANA” FEEL

I

n every single living person’s mind there is always that lingering imagination to retire early and to live somewhere near sea or beach which is the common fact in society. Interestingly there is such a place in the tropical nation of Peru, more specifically in Cañete nestled in the beaches of Lima, that place being a sumptuous house in walking distance with the sea entitled Casa P12. Built by famous local architectural firm Martin Dulanto Arquitecto, Casa P12 teases the barrier between a family house with a nice, little private resort that one might find in the Caribbean, because from the first look this simple yet feisty mansion does look resort-esque.

85

From the exterior view, Casa P12 does come across as a welcoming home with its open state persona, there is seemingly a little amount of concrete or even none for that matter, because it incorporate more floorto-ceiling windows for its guard and wood to add flavor to the tropical vibe which is the main idea for this house, leaving only little white concrete walls as the basis for each floor of the house. Palm trees also play a part in creating that “copa cabana feel to the house as the trees surround every perimeter of the house with the sweet breeze of the sea playing also a major factor in adding the essence of a perfect beach house to Casa P12. Taking a closer look at the house, Casa P12 does look like a cube which is the whole point of the architect, the manse resembled the game Tetris where one or more cubes coalesce into one continuing formation. The essence of Casa P12 is of course the white concrete accompanied with other cubes of material being wood and glass. There are three levels of living inside P12, the basement which a host of 3 wonderful bedrooms with their own personal bathrooms, a living room and a courtyard is coated with different materials, from glass for the railing of the staircase, groovy grey concrete wall to add zestfulness to the house and wood for several wall panel to make the base of the house a compilation of materials. Moving on the second tier of the house which is the designated main part of the house is the home to the master bedroom, dominated by the color white, a luxurious and state-of-the-art kitchen with a guest bedroom and lastly the spacious second living room covered by the aforementioned floor-toceiling glass windows allowing unaccountable breathing space and healthy sunlight to bask in. The top tear is the crown of Casa P12, from the images alone the vacation feel can be experienced, guided by a single row wooden staircase from the first floor, the upstairs terrace offers an abundant of joy with two more rooms, dining room and the live of the party if you will, the trinity of happiness, the barbeque spot and grill, the cozy and comfortable deck with the crystal clear swimming pool to complete the experience, all protected by wooden material roof implying fresh approach.

FROM THE FIRST LOOK THIS SIMPLE YET FEISTY MANSION DOES LOOK RESORT-ESQUE

INCORPORATING MANY EARTHLY MATERIALS TO SOOTHE THE EYES

There is a very little list of houses that can immediately stand out upon gazing, even from a menial image on a magazine, but this Casa P12 is different. One look at this simplistic and contemporary house, hearts will definitely be in love maybe due to its clever play on colors, incorporating many earthly materials to soothe the eyes or maybe is that bright and shiny yellow color cameos its way in every floor, whatever it is, this cube of house manages to do something right, creating a feeling that is approachable to all. @courtesy of Martin Dulanto Arquitecto

LUXURY LIVING LAMBORGHINI HURACAN GLOBAL 6000 VERTIGO THE NAMELESS HAYMAN ISLAND RAYAVADEE KRABI SAMABE THE JIWA

LUXURY cars

ROCK YOU LIKE A HURACA N รก

SAY HELLO TO THE NEWEST ADDITION TO THE FAMILY

T

he new year of 2014 marked a joyous occasion for Lamborghini S.p.A. as the Raging Bull rolls out their newborn baby, the Huracán or LP 610-4 at the Geneva Motor Show 2014. Much like any other new car, Lamborghini intended for Huracán to replace older model since the Bull only carries limited amount of supercars and Huracán is no different from Aventador. The official statement is that Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 is the successor of Lamborghini Gallardo which presented the final model in late 2013. Much like Aventador which replaced Murciélago, Huracán will be a new dawn for Lamborghini’s enthusiasts for many years to come. The reason for retiring Gallardo is obvious, although still considered one of the beloved supercars out there, the Gallardo is outdated and cannot cope with the current crop of supercars to date, let’s just say Ferrari F12 Berlinetta or Aston Martin Vanquish. A change is direly needed and that is why the birth of Huracán will spell wondrous thing for Lamborghini in the market. Lamborghini is known to build scintillating speed oriented cars both in exterior design and in its engine, although it broken the vow quite a bit when the Bull announced the making of Urus, the first ever Lamborghini SUV or SAV or whatever one might call it, but moving on, Lamborghini did something right with Huracán and that is keeping the performance and speed in the family.

LAMBORGHINI IS STILL GOING TO BE LAMBORGHINI

Again, much like its predecessor, the Huracán will be wearing a V10 engine with 40 valves and will be withdrawing 610HP @ 8,250RPM from that said engine and also the newest bull will be speeding and swerving with a maximum torque of 560Nm @ 6,500RPM. Major modification from Gallardo which only can bear over 570 of horsepower, but the one gripe most car fans have with this new product of Lamborghini is the absence of a hybrid engine. When most supercar producers are vying for the future with V8 or V12 engines and deliciously sufficient electric motors such as LaFerrari, McClaren P1 or the exhilarating top-mounted exhausts of Porsche 918 Spyder, Lamborghini is still harvesting the power of a naturally aspirated engine without the applying any turbocharger or supercharger. Just recollect the mind and think about how Aventador still keeps their V12 engine where at the time of launching, most of the car brands are ditching V12 engines and went for V8 instead, with the exception of Ferrari F12, of course.

Stephan Winkelmann, the CEO of Lamborghini said that it is only a matter of time before Lamborghini establishes themselves in the Hybrid Supercar market but this year is not the time. “It has to be the right moment”, he said, and quite frankly the decision was correct since Lamborghini is not looking to follow the trend but rather defining that trend with another car of class and speed. Design-wise, Lamborghini Huracán is far from Gallardo, where as Gallardo seemed a little boxy, Huracán looks very slick, the aerodynamic body works really well with snake-like headlights. In terms of speed, this humble carriage is a Lamborghini, reaching 0-100km/h in only a menial 3.2 seconds – achieving 0-200km/h in just 9.9 seconds. Huracán is the new kid on the block but to be honest, can any car hold a candle to this brute of a machine?

LIVING THE LIFE

SUPER-SIZE YOUR LIFE WITH THIS SUPER YACHT

T

he best way to enjoy that gleaming life of luxury is to travel with style whether its luxurious super cars, eloquent private jets or the most leisure travelling option there is, by sea. That is where this mega, giant yacht comes in, the Vertigo it’s called and truly, it is a magnificent sight to see. The word ‘super’ yacht is no exaggeration whatsoever, stretching over 67 meters or 220 feet and with it Waterline Length being 200 feet or 61 meters, this superb yacht is the most lavish and humongous boat one can ever see in their lifetimes. Strap on a pair of slippers and enjoy the sights whilst relaxing on top of this ship, the enjoyment of watching a sole island passing through the eyes is priceless. Vertigo is equipped with the best likings to that of a house, it has a living room or in this case a living lounge side by side with the spa area. It even has its own garage for a smaller boat or in maritime-term it is called a limo, that is how massive this super yacht is, it is like a Russian nesting doll, open one yacht and another boat will come out of it. The inside of this humongous beast is spacious to say the least, well provided that Vertigo has a length of 220 feet, it is no wonder that this yacht is the house of so many rooms. The house of Christian Liaigre Interior Design has done a fine job of turning the belly of the beast into a worthy living apartment at the sea. It is truly like stepping into the den of a penthouse, the flow of this den is strikingly similar with a luxurious penthouse, from the family area to the master bedroom, all indicative of a sublime penthouse and not to mention the combination between black and white colors, it really makes the den of Vertigo looks lively.

The main engine or should we say engines are these remarkable twin V12 engines exuding 1400bhp within each engine, that is pure raw power. With these twin engines, Vertigo can travel up to 5330 square meters of water, bringing joy to all the party people on board or a nice family voyage up to the private resort, this super yacht can cater to every whim and need and it shall sail with ease. Sailing is the prominent way to travel and some say travel with style, a private yacht this big if a size is the one and only style to take, Vertigo can make you dizzy with glamour and elegance.

IT EVEN HAS ITS OWN GARAGE

NAMELESS WHISPER WITH THIS YACHT, WHO NEEDS A NAME?

96

T

he majority of maritime community will all agreed that a nameless yacht will spell bad luck for the said luxurious boat. That being said, how will bad luck rear its ugly teeth when facing a yacht that is named Nameless, the yacht maker of this yacht do have some sarcastic humor when proposing the name, an attempt to cheat death on the sea perhaps but whatever the name of this yacht, or lack thereof, it is still a stunning and beautiful yacht all way around. Mondo Marine, the builder of this elegant thing has something to be proud of, the 41-meter vessel is not only eye-pleasing but it is full of features that can surely turn head around. For instance, the scintillating blue-tiled Jacuzzi placed on the upper deck of all places is strikingly gorgeous and it is the main distraction from the other features. The Nameless can carry up to 11 persons per trip and will accommodate those 11 people in 5 nicely designed cabins, the interior design was created by Luca Dini and what a fine interior it is, boasting a full blast white color with colorful art on different panels to create a refreshing feel when entering the belly of The Nameless, boasting a full contemporary style. The cruise speed of this Nameless is quite staggering, over 17 knots can be pulled out from this super yacht which is the classification of Nameless and reaching the top speed of 19 knots, this yacht will not go out of balance and will be steered easily via the highly technological captain’s cockpit. One of the main features that will simply blow minds is the upper deck, the cozy and warm terrace or balcony, if one can call it that is simply the icing on the cake with the exterior color of the yacht

A STUNNING AND BEAUTIFUL YACHT ALL WAY AROUND being deep dark blue at the bottom and the crisp pearly white on the upper part of the boat, it is simply logical to put light-colored wooden panel floors for the entirety of the deck and voila, the result is this fresh, pleasing center for the entire family to enjoy and as it were mentioned before, the blue-tiled Jacuzzi will haunt minds, the combination between the luscious Jacuzzi and the freshness of the upper deck create a lavish yet exciting deck. It may not have a name, so to speak but The Nameless doesn’t care whether bad luck comes, because with this superyacht for the transportation, who would care about a name?

QUEENSLAND’S ONE AND ONLY TREASURED ISLAND RESORT

D

iscretion is not advised when it comes to One & Only Hayman Island of the coast of Queensland in the northernmost of Whitsunday Islands. Loud noise of recognition is well needed for this combination between nature and resort although just by merely looking at the ads or brochure, this isle of solitude definitely speaks for itself. First of all, Australia is known to be the host of several exotic clusters of islands, each one of those islands is catered by the man upstairs to dazzle impress every laying eyes close enough to the vicinity and Australia is also the house of several endangered wildlife animals due to its embracing weather. With those credentials, some might logically implying that One&Only Hayman Island is like any other exotic islands within the barrier of Australian waters, but on the contraire, this private island is sublimely above the rest. The reason for the name One&Only is simple, because this resort is literally one of a kind and can’t be outdone by any resorts from around the globe. The exoticism in Australia is well documented, many of the nature’s most endangered and poisonous species are gathered within this nation and that is just for the fauna area and as for the flora, Australia is well known to befuddle visitors by the very colorful wildlife plants that available by every step of the way. Now, bring that exoticism from the whole continuity of Australia into one island resort named Hayman Island and that exclusivity and exoticism get tripled within mere moments.

99

The main denominator for this resort is that One&Only Hayman Island stands in a “deserted” island so to speak, no other land can be seen from miles away, this carries the important mission of this resort and that is to create a secluded experience to its guests, creating a personal haven or sanctuary from the bustling hectic life of any city in the world. The crystal clear ocean surrounding One&Only Hayman Island will succinctly spell lavish and luscious exoticism to the highest echelon of satisfaction. The accommodations within this resort are divided into three distinct areas within the lone island, segregated into a diversity of five types of extravagant living space. There are Lagoon Wing or more noticeable as the Hayman Wing, sophisticatedly engulfed with the style of chic contemporary with the contrast of black and white complementing the savagely beautiful sight of the lagoon up front. Pool wing offers a more constraint way of vacationing, with three styles of suites inside this wing

overlooking the swimming pool and the breathtaking Coral Sea, exotic nevertheless. Perfect answer to family fun, the Beach Wing is situated right next to the white sandy beach much like its surname, the villa style suites are divided into three distinct villas offering the same majestic sunny views of the sand reflecting on the sun. Amongst those three suites, One&Only Hayman Island also present to guests two uber-exciting and extra luxurious Hayman Penthouses and Residences for the best experience, even one of the penthouses was carved from the hands of Diane von Furstenberg, it doesn’t get anymore classy than that, truth be told.

THE MAIN DENOMINATOR FOR THIS RESORT IS THAT ONE & ONLY HAYMAN ISLAND STANDS IN A “DESERTED” ISLAND

101

ONE OF THE PENTHOUSES WAS CARVED FROM THE HANDS OF DIANE VON FURSTENBERG 102

Much like any other resort, One&Only Hayman Island also gives guests the gift of hefty activities such as Great Barrier Reef tour which is one of the most popular, most sought after tour available. Water sports, hiking and many more can be found in this particular haven, though if pleasuring the body is in order, Hayman Island massage staff can deal with the troublesome knot in the muscle or seduce guests with the scintillating scent of the aromatherapy. Cuisine-wise, the chefs inside Hayman Island are vastly experienced in modern-Asian, authentic-Italian and sumptuous-European cuisines without neglecting the local herbs and spices. One & Only Hayman Island is sticking true to its first name, it is simply the one and only vacation spot to experience.

ART FILLED LUNCHEON May 12th of the year 2014 marked a wonderful occasion because Indonesia became one of the places that Syndicat National des Antiquaires visited in their world tour as they gear up for the coveted Biennale des Antiquaires, this September. The entitled media luncheon was commenced by interviews with the President of SNA, Christian Deydier which is by far the most outspoken and fun people to be with. Crhistian Deydier wasn’t alone on that day because along with his SNA entourage, Christian Deydier was also accompanied by one of the most prestigious names in the world of fine jewelry and art making, Wallace Chan who also brought his own entourage, safe to say the interview were a hoot in a half. The event continued with a media luncheon which was attended by a plethora of prominent media representations from all around of Jakarta. It was rather an intimate luncheon than anyone would think, Christian Deydier and Wallace Chan sat on different tables and turned that luncheon into a warm gathering between the media and the hosts. All in all, it was a joyous afternoon filled with laughter and insights as well of what to expect in this year’s Biennale des Antiquaires.

One of the founders of NPYDA, Cosmas D. Gozali has travelled to eight countries, Japan, China, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia to seek out the best of the best of the next generation talent and succeeded in founding them. Over 500 projects were submitted through the committee and placed under the eyes of the esteemed judges with Andra Matin and Cosmas D. Gozali spearheading the judge committee, producing Raynaldo Theodore and Rahmat Hidayat as two of the winners of this event. BOOK review

GREEN, GREEN,GREEN! W

IT COULDN’T GET ANYMORE GREEN THAN THIS

ithin each year passing, the notion of a healthier life in the body and also the surroundings keep getting harder and complicated to do. It is a known fact that heating consumption uses by houses all over the world is one of the main concerns for causing current global warming, but what can be done to battle this baffling predicament? The answer is succinctly simple. Building a house with grand insulation is the perfect getaway from the raying heat that will ultimately spell humanity’s doom besides decreasing the consumption of electricity, of course. In this informational book, entitled The Greenest Home: Superinsultated and Passive Home Design written by Julia Torres Moskowitz, readers will be taken to series of highly insulated houses designed by many renowned architects to the better understanding of what a Passive Home really is. Passive Home is the new green, that is the mantra of this book, a passive home is defined by its airtight building and sufficiently insulated, with that idea, the heating consumption of any house can be diluted into a whopping 90% and grouped into just the heating only. In the energy consumption area, building a well insulated house will decrease the statistics to 75% of energy consumption which in the end will spell lower spending money on electricity and cooling apparatus.

Follow as the book takes readers to a grand tour of clean and healthy houses created by ARO, Olson Kundig Architects, Onion Flats and many others to the better understanding of what a sustainable future needs. This book will be a guideline for green families to enhanced the living situation of their loved ones as well as caring for the world. As the years gone by, it’s not enough to just have a stylish and modernistic house, pretty in the eyes but that house also has to be energy and heat sufficient to be lived in for many years ahead. This book has successfully tackled that problematic issue and more importantly, provides detailed procedures and information on how to build a better future.

INSIDE AND OUT DETAILED VIEWING OF A MAJESTIC LANDMARK

N

ew York City is a city full of wonderments, a city so vast in diversity, a city where art at its true definition can breathe freely and that is why The Lincoln Center is considered to be one of the landmarks braced dearly by all of New Yorkers. Lincoln Center for Performing Art is a sanctuary for all artists from all over the world to gather and conduct their arts freely and live the dream that they stride to be. That being said, this is why Lincoln Center is very important to every artist community inside the Big Apple, but a redesigning was needed to preserve that artistic passion and soul and well, in the end result is amazing, the new Lincoln Center is truly a tremendous sight to see and that is thanks to the collaboration of Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R) with FXFOWLE, Beyer Blinder and the boardroom of Lincoln Center. In this book - Lincoln Center: Inside Out, readers will encounter massive extension of details from the very first drawing to the blueprint and so on and so forth to the finished product which is the new and improved Lincoln Center. Relived the hard work and the long hours putting this colossal monument for art with over 300 pages long that will make readers appreciate more the essence of Lincoln Center inside the vicinity of New York City. Lincoln Center has been one of New York’s most endeared treasures, much like the Statue of Liberty or The Battery Park Bull and that is the reason to remodel this piece of landscape towards the future. This book is perfect for not just New Yorkers but everyone who appreciate a legend, who knows that a building with such history cannot and should not be torn down just such ease, it has to be preserved for future generations to enjoy.
