Say a Prayer for the Boys “Out There”
World War I had far-reaching ramifications on politics, society, and culture that were even felt in the music industry. From 1914 to 1918, numerous songs highlighted emotions and experiences intimately familiar to those on the home front and battlefield. This 1917 piece, Say a Prayer for the Boys “Out There,” by Alex Marr and Bernie Grossman, encouraged listeners to offer their support for “our heroes o'er the sea.” A reflection on sacrifice and patriotism, the song asked listeners to remember, “So that we may live, their lives they give.” See last year’s Archives Month cards by visiting: http://tiny.cc/EKUArchivesCards Room 126, John Grant Crabbe Main Library archives.eku.edu | library.eku.edu/support | (859) 622-1792 October 2018
