WEKU-FM

On October 7, 1968, WEKU-FM took to the airwaves. Eastern’s President Robert R. Martin initiated the inaugural broadcast with short remarks on the educational outreach the station would provide and then, with the press of a button, he sent 50,000 watts of power to Eastern’s transmitters and listeners tuned in to WEKU’s first news broadcast. In the early days, the station was only on air for a few hours a day. The cover of this Fall 1968 programming guide features their mascot, “Colonel Mike.” See last year’s Archives Month cards by visiting: http://tiny.cc/EKUArchivesCards Room 126, John Grant Crabbe Main Library archives.eku.edu | library.eku.edu/support | (859) 622-1792 October 2018
