The University Ensemble
In 1967, EKU students Paul Eric Abercrumbie and Reginald Walters formed the University Ensemble, a gospel singing group comprised solely of AfricanAmerican students. The group would go on to record two albums, In the Beginning and We’ve Come This Far By Faith, and performed for audiences both in and beyond Kentucky. The groundbreaking choir served not only as a source of community for its black student members, but their music offered a message of hope and inspiration to others during a turbulent period in the fight for civil rights.
