Sheltering and shaping the minds of tomorrow

Shaped at Scape

Going to university isn’t a given any more. Students face more pressure, and want more from their degree. So our role has never been more important. At Scape, we think that a student’s home needs to be more than just a comfy bed. It should shelter them with rooms and buildings designed precisely for what they need. And it should help brilliant minds take shape by introducing them to new cities, new cultures, new ideas and new possibilities. Day in, day out.

Shelter At university, students will be doing some of the most important work of their lives. The place that they live needs to support them and make sure they feel safe, calm and at home. With that taken care of, they can produce incredible work, every day.

9

Shape It’s also important that students feel challenged. We’ll introduce them to new eye-opening ideas. Make sure they’re clued up and plugged in to their new city and community. And give them that little bit of guidance that will make a big difference throughout university, and beyond.

10

Changing the shape of student accommodation Scape was born out of a simple idea: being a student shouldn’t mean having to compromise on quality. There are three big benefits we offer students that others can’t:

11

Smarter, brighter, better rooms. Our rooms are created by award-winning designers to keep students relaxed, rested and ready to do the best work of their lives.

Buildings that give you more. From private gyms to cinema screens, study zones to communal kitchens, there’s nothing out there quite like a Scape building.

A year that lasts a lifetime. Every month, we run talks to broaden minds, workshops to sharpen skills and events to open up doors for life after university.

In 2011, we began our project to produce the most intelligently designed student accommodation in the world. Partnering with multi-award winning interior architect Ab Rogers, we created and crafted rooms that give today’s students exactly what they need.

Sweeter dreams You can’t learn if you don’t sleep. Research has proven that nearly all new memories are created during deep, REM sleep. That’s why we give all our students double beds and their own heat controls to make sure they get a solid eight hours… at least.

Healthier living We don’t want students to rely on takeaways or microwave dinners. With their own kitchen, they’ll be able to cook up square meals that are better for body and mind.

UNFOLD / Form Us With Love In every room, this soft silicon rubber shade creates a unique and playful take on the classic industry lamp design.

Intelligent design, intelligent features. It’s not just the design of our rooms that make a Scape studio smarter. We carefully curate and select everything that goes in it.

UNDER THE BELL / Iskos Berlin Made from recycled plastic felt, this large lamp creates a new space within a space. Used in our study areas, it creates a sense of shelter, helps to absorb noise and keep students focused.

VITRA / Tip Ton In all our rooms and throughout our buildings, the Tip Ton chair can be tilted forward a few degrees which straightens the pelvis and spine and improves circulation in the core muscles. A study by one of the world’s leading universities of applied sciences showed the health benefits of a forward-leaning sitting position meant increased muscle activity in the core muscles which boosts the supply of oxygen to the body.

While we wanted to make our rooms as comfortable as possible, we also know the power of crossed paths and chance encounters. The friendships and connections you make at university are life changing. So our buildings are built to give people places to meet up, wind down and work together.

Broadening minds Whether it’s the horizonexpanding or the justplain-useful, we hold talks from travel bloggers to entrepreneurs, philosophers to personal finance experts. We also run events to help people meet lifelong friends and contacts from other cultures and continents. The design of the buildings means you’re constantly meeting new people. I’ve learned loads about different cultures and interests. So many opportunities too – we had a talk from an exciting startup that’s about to be huge. The access was incredible. I don’t just have the story behind the business – I also have the business card of the CEO Polina – third year student
