“Developers is a project about trying to see rapid change as it is ‘developing’, in the hope that clear seeing might be its own reward. Cootehall, my home for fifteen years, has been in the midst of a great upheaval in recent years. I wanted to approach the particularities of those changes; to see, to listen, to ‘snatch out of time’ moments that might offer some clarity”

Both artists and their collaborators, staff and managers from their Art@Work residencies will be present to discuss the process from their individual perspectives, examine its legacy and explore potential directions for the project. The symposium will also look at other models of participatory arts practices, implemented in a rural context. THE PARK : SEAN RAFFERTY
FRIDAY 18th JULY | Time TBC
Exhibition Opening: Friday 25th July | Time: TBC Continues until 19th September
This exhibition by Irish born Australian artist Sean Rafferty focuses on the legacy and history of Rockingham Estate, the landscape and built environs of Lough Key Forest Park, celebrating the unique nostalgic nature of this site. Next to the house of Rafferty’s late grandparents, beside the lakeshore of Lough Key, was a collection of stones that had been taken from the site of a nearby ruin. The stones were once part of a mansion called Rockingham House that was destroyed by fire in 1957. The assemblage, made into a chair, represented the only artistic gesture that Rafferty knew his grandfather had made on the farm. In this exhibition Rafferty proposes to create a monument in the gallery using fragments now strewn throughout the site of Kingston Hall in Lough Key. This will be a monument to the past, to his family and to the regional history, through a “gesture that recognises my family history in the context of the history of the area”.
