Wishing to make their country a top cultural destination and internationally recognized for art, education, and culture, the leaders of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi launched the development of this major, universal art museum project. By developing tourism, education, and services, they aimed to dawn the post-oil age. Abu Dhabi called on French expertise to help them successfully bring the Arab world’s first universal museum to life.

“Geometric Architecture�
Location: Madrid, Spain - Museum, Center for Illustration and Design ABC Architects: Aranguren & Gallegos Architects The new Center for Illustration and Design ABC, has the desire to be an international artistic reference and a cultural symbol of Madrid. The installation in the old factory building on Amaniel Street is an appropriate intervention in a historic building without sacrificing the character of expressing a contemporary center with a varied range of cultural and artistic institutions.
To create an “atrium” in the new institution, which will allow the center to express its contemporary and modern character, it was proposed to use the courtyard as the access space of the building, functioning as an entrance hall before access to the interior space. The building has a double access from two streets that connect through an interior courtyard. Before the intervention, one of the entrances was in a body of longitudinal height that closed the patio.
The architecture mechanism used for this purpose is based on the creation of a “prominent void” the “dihedral space” formed by the horizontal plane of the patio floor and the vertical plane of the old factory facade. Both perforated planes are constructed with similar triangular holes that will provide light to the spaces they serve. This creates a “space without weight” that mixes the real, imaginary and symbolic. As a “huge magnet,” it will pick up and carry us with a certain seductive power to the new institution, simultaneously provoking curiosity, anxiety and pleasure during the visit.
