Gianwas recently named Puerto Rico National Champion in Men’s Shortboard Surfing 2024 by the Puerto Rico Surfing Federation (FSPR). He also obtained first place in Eco Pro in the Junior Pro category in Isabela and reached the quarterfinals in the Corona Pro Surf Circuit 2023, among other championships. In addition, he was part of the junior national team that represented us in Huntington, California, at the 2019 Open Surf for the 2022-2023 Pan American Surf Association PASA games. He is passionate about everything related to the sea. He loves highrisk and adrenaline producing sports and tries to stay as close to the sea as possible when not surfing. His favorite hobbies include free diving, fishing, spearfishing, foil surfing, big-wave surfing, training in and out of the gym, and cooking. Since he was little, he has been involved in nature and coastal conservation efforts, participating in beach cleanups, mangrove reforestation, and environmental protests in Arecibo and Isabela.
He is characterized by having solid feet on the ground and giving his all regardless of any challenge. The continuous support that the community gives him is worthwhile, as he is very giving and always does his best to do his part so that his profession goes hand in hand with the help necessary for the future of the community. Gian is a surfing instructor at Rincón Surf School. He also enjoys bartending at private bartending events.
He has multiple certifications, including lifeguarding and Big Wave Rescue Assessment Group (BWRAG), which prepares him not only for his safety in the water but also for rescuing others. A curious fact is that his mother sometimes finds out from third parties how many times Gian has saved lives. This has happened many times since he is not a person to go through life bragging about everything he has achieved; his only interest is to live in his paradise, loving what he does every day.
Gianha sido recientemente nombrado campeón nacional de Puerto Rico en la categoría masculina de surf de tabla corta 2024 de la Federación de Surfing de Puerto Rico (FSPR). Entre otros campeonatos en los que participó obtuvo primer lugar en Eco Pro en la categoría Junior Pro en Isabela P.R. 2022 y llegó a cuartos de final en el Corona Pro Surf Circuit 2023. Fue parte del equipo nacional de Junior que nos representó en Hungtinton California en el 2019 Open Surf para los juegos PASA de la Panamerican Surf Association 2022-2023.
Todo lo que tenga que ver con el mar le apasiona. Le encantan los deportes de alto riesgo y adrenalina y trata siempre de quedarse lo más cerca posible del mar cuando no está surfeando. Varios de sus pasatiempos favoritos son el freediving, la pesca, spearfishing, foil surfing, practicar surfing de olas grandes, entrenar (dentro y fuera del gym) y cocinar. Desde chico siempre se ha envuelto en esfuerzos de conservación de nuestra naturaleza y costas, tales como limpiezas de playas, reforestación de mangles en los pueblos de Arecibo e Isabela y protestas ambientales.
Se caracteriza por siempre tener sus pies sobre la tierra e intenta dar lo mejor de sí sin importar el reto presente. El apoyo continuo de la comunidad hacia él no es en vano, pues es muy dado y siempre hace posible que su profesión vaya de la mano a brindar la ayuda necesaria y depositar su grano de arena en el futuro de la comunidad. Gian es instructor de surfing en Rincon Surf School. También, es bartender y disfruta trabajar en eventos privados de bartending.
Cuenta con múltiples certificaciones, entre ellas la de salvavidas y la Big Wave Rescue Assessment Group (BWRAG) la cual lo prepara no solo para su seguridad personal en el agua sino también para poder rescatar a otros. Un dato curioso, es que su mamá a veces se entera por terceros las veces que Gian ha salvado vidas (que han sido muchas) porque no es persona de ir por la vida presumiendo todo lo que hace o logra… solo vive en su propio paraíso amando todo lo que hace día a día.
It all started when a family friend took him surfing at the age of four, and from then on, he knew that this was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life: surf professionally. He started competing when he was five years old, and his opponents were the children of surfers who knew each other, representing a greater challenge. However, he quickly placed himself among the first in his category. Being happy as a fish in water, despite his busy schedule, he was part of the FSPR SUPerheroes program focused on taking children with disabilities to enjoy the water and practice paddle boarding.
Gian was born in Florida to Puerto Rican parents. A year after his birth, his parents began publishing the magazine Natural Awakenings in Puerto Rico, so they decided to return to the island. Initially, they moved to Gurabo, but since they were always beachgoers and the SUP fever was beginning at that time, they spent their time traveling to competitions all over the island on the weekends. They traveled a lot to Isabela, but on one of those trips, due to a double booking during their stay, they ended up in Rincón, calling it a “divine intervention.” After four years traveling every weekend to Rincón so that Gian and his brothers could surf, they decided to officially move in 2012.
Gian, with his free soul and love for nature, loved Uniendo al Mundo Ecological School in Caguas as a child. He loved working in the gardens and learning about and identifying birds in the school forest. One day, his mother tells him that she had a dream in which she opened a school like that in Rincón, and Gian, a very stubborn child, was so stubborn until his mother opened the first Waldorf school in Rincón called Semillas para una Nueva Humanidad. The school focuses on alternative and ecological education. It was a fantastic project at the wrong time, and although it only lasted two years, it created bonds of friendship that remain alive today. The goal of his mother was to be able to take advantage of the good times to surf making surfing the official physical activity class for the school in conjunction with local surf instructors. At the age of 15, motivated by the big wave surfer Will Skudin, he surfed Tres Palmas for the first time, astonished by the adrenaline rush from surfing such massive waves.
Desde que un amigo de la familia lo llevó a surfear a los cuatro añitos supo que era lo que quería hacer para el resto de su vida. No ha habido un momento desde entonces que quisiera ser otra cosa que surfer profesional. A sus cinco años comenzó a competir. Esos primeros años fueron un poco retantes ya que sus contrincantes eran hijos de surfers que se conocían entre sí, no obstante logró rápidamente colocarse siempre entre los top de su categoría. Dentro de su apretada agenda y siendo feliz como pez en el agua, formó parte del programa los SUPerhéroes de la FSPR enfocado en llevar a niños con discapacidad a disfrutar del agua y practicar paddle board.
Gian, de padres puertorriqueños, nació en Florida. Al año de nacer, sus padres habían comenzado a publicar la revista Natural Awakenings en Puerto Rico y deciden regresar a la isla. Se mudan a Gurabo pero como siempre fueron playeros y en aquellos momentos comenzaba la fiebre del SUP—con lo que todos en la familia se envolvieron compitiendo— se la pasaban los fines de semana viajando a competencias por toda isla. Se la pasaban en Isabela pero en uno de esos viajes de fin de semana, debido a una reserva doble en su estadía, o como dicen ellos, por intervención divina, terminaron en Rincón y el resto es historia. Luego de cuatro años viajando cada fin de semana a Rincón para que Gian—y sus hermanos— pudieran surfear, deciden mudarse oficialmente en el 2012.
A Gian, de alma libre y amante de la naturaleza, le encantaba su escuela Ecológica Niños Uniendo al Mundo en Caguas. Le encantaba trabajar en los huertos y aprendiendo e identificando aves en un bosque de la escuela. Un día, su mamá le cuenta que tuvo un sueño que abrió una escuela así en Rincón y él, un niño muy obstinado, tanto estuvo hasta que su mamá abrió la primera escuela Waldorf en Rincón llamada Semillas para una Nueva Humanidad, enfocada en educación alternativa y ecológica. Un proyecto hermoso a destiempo que aunque solo duró dos años creó lazos de amistad que al día de hoy aun mantienen vivos. La meta de su mamá era que él pudiera aprovechar las horas de oleaje para practicar y hace del surfing el deporte oficial de la clase de educación física utilizando instructores locales. A los 15 años, motivado por el surfer profesional de olas grandes Will Skudin, corrió por primera vez Tres Palmas quedando flechado por la adrenalina de correr olas grandes.
Something you didn’t know about Gian is that he is a young businessman. After Hurricane Maria, he moved to New Jersey for nine months, where he had his first experience in a traditional school where he was on the honor roll. It is worth mentioning that it was his first time taking exams, completing assignments, and projects. He went from living barefoot all the time in Rincón to having to live in the US in a school in a fairly affluent town. There, he discovered the desire for brand name sneakers. Since they were so expensive, upon returning to Puerto Rico, he decided, together with his brother, to create a business selling and reselling sneakers so they could afford their own. During the pandemic, his business was affected. Since he enjoyed fishing and cooking, he made a Sushi Night one day, and he loved it so much that he dedicated every Friday to making sushi from the day’s catch. He also began selling sushi and fish in the community to raise funds for his surfboards and the travel that comes with the sport. He currently works as a surfing instructor in Rincón. He has worked the past two years as a coach at summer camps in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. He also worked summers at Skudin Surf Camp in Long Beach, NY. He will travel to Indonesia this summer for waves, tubes, cultural learning, and new opportunities.

Algo que no sabías de Gian, es que es un joven empresario. Luego del Huracán María se mudaron nueve meses al estado de New Jersey donde tuvo su primera experiencia en una escuela de educación tradicional donde entró al cuadro de honor. Cabe mencionar que era su primera vez experimentando tener que tomar exámenes, hacer tareas y proyectos. Pasó de vivir descalzo todo el tiempo en Rincón a vivir en E.U. en una escuela de un pueblo bastante afluente. Allí descubrió el afán por tenis de marca y como eran tan costosos al regresar a Puerto Rico decide junto a su hermano crear un negocio de venta y reventa de tenis para así poder costear los suyos. Durante la pandemia, como ya no vendían tanta mercancía y disfrutaba de la pesca y la cocina, un día hizo un “Sushi Night”, le encantó y así se fue dedicando cada viernes a hacer sushi de la pesca del día y los vendía a la comunidad para levantar fondos para sus tablas y viajes de surfing. Actualmente se desempeña como instructor de surfing para Rincon Surf School, corriendo clases aquí en Rincón y ha trabajado los pasados dos años como coach en los campamentos de verano para chic@s en Costa Rica y Nicaragua. También trabaja los veranos en el Skudin Surf Camp en Long Beach NY. Este verano viajará a Indonesia en busca de olas, tubos, nuevas oportunidades y aprendizaje.

Youdon’t work a day in your life when you love what you do! Not many have been lucky enough to find their love and passion, but Alan has been fortunate enough to find it, not just once, but three times. His passion when he was young was skiing. So he became a competitive alpine ski mogul, running among the top 30 in the United States. Today, Alan can ski regardless of the height or difficulty of the mountain. At fifteen, he was introduced to his next two passions: boxing and cooking. One led him to the other, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Santos, who was a professional boxer in the Featherweight category and a great cook.
His full name is Alan Dominick Gotay, creator of Babalu Rincón Food Truck. He was born and raised in Syosset, New York (Long Island). He was a very naughty child; at the age of five or six, he had already broken his chin three times. He was involved throughout his childhood in sports such as baseball, football, basketball, and skiing. However, just before middle school, he had to decide whether to go to a public or private school focused on skiing, where he would be trained for higher-level competitions. Ultimately, he decided to go to public school because he didn’t want to lose the pleasure of skiing. There, he begins his journey into boxing. His mother suggested boxing to him because it was a unique, disciplined sport and something he could practice with his father.
He began his boxing career at the age of sixteen in 2006. He fought as an amateur for years and then became professional at twenty-two in 2012. He had to teach himself about nutrition, cooking, and healthy eating during his professional career. His desire to learn grew in boxing and cooking, eventually leading him to culinary school. Then, following his example, other boxers, fascinated, began to ask him to make them healthy meals. That made him realize that his next passion was cooking. He attended Star Career Academy in Syosset, New York, with two goals in mind: to learn everything he could in the art of cooking and to graduate at the top of his class, and both were accomplished!
His career in the restaurant industry began at fourteen, working in fastfood establishments and restaurants. Due to injuries and his desire to perfect his skills, he had to put aside one of his passions, which led to his retirement from boxing in 2016.
With extensive culinary experience, he trained as a Michelin-star chef working with world-renowned restaurants. His most extraordinary guides were chefs Michael Psilakis, Michele Brigioni (Armani Ristorante), and the spectacular Chefs Michael Ginore and Bobby Flay. His experiences with them inspired him to create his own business. That’s when BabaluNY became a reality in April 2017! They expanded companies in February 2020 as BabaluNY 2.0. Even with the pandemic, he is grateful for all his community’s and clients’ support in allowing them to continue and thrive.
¡No trabajas un sólo día en tu vida cuando amas lo que haces! No muchos han tenido la suerte de encontrar su amor y pasión, pero Alan ha tenido la suerte de encontrarlo, no sólo una vez, sino tres veces. Su pasión cuando era joven era esquiar. Así que se convirtió en un magnate del esquí alpino competitivo postulandose entre los 30 mejores de todo Estados Unidos. Actualmente, Alan puede esquiar a ciegas sin importar la altura ni la dificultad de la montaña. A la edad de quince años conoció sus siguientes dos pasiones como adulto: el boxeo y la cocina. Una le llevó a la otra, siguiendo los pasos de su abuelo Santos, quien fue boxeador profesional en la categoría de Peso Pluma y un gran cocinero.
Su nombre completo es Alan Dominick Gotay creador de Babalu Rincón Food Truck. Nacido y criado en Syosset, Nueva York (Long Island). Fue un niño muy travieso, pues a la edad de cinco o seis años, ya se había partido la barbilla 3 veces. Estuvo involucrado toda su infancia en deportes como el béisbol, fútbol americano, baloncesto y esquí. Sin embargo, justo antes de la intermedia, tuvo que decidir si ir a una escuela pública, o una privada enfocada en el esquí donde le entrenarían para competencias de mayor nivel. Al final decidió ir a la escuela pública porque no quería perder el placer de esquiar. Ahí comienza su viaje hacia el boxeo. Su madre le sugirió el boxeo por ser un deporte singular, disciplinado y algo que podía practicar con su padre.
Puerto Rico, however, always called him. He spent many summers in Peñuelas and Corozal with his grandparents. A few years ago, he discovered Rincón and was hypnotized by its beauty, life, and people. He then said to himself, “I can see myself here.” While he still had the restaurant, he began looking for opportunities in Rincón to make a more permanent move. He couldn’t have one foot in New York and another in Puerto Rico. When the time came to decide to renew his lease, he followed his heart, closed the restaurant, and began a new career in Rincón. He knew that if he stayed in New York, he would never have the opportunity to live on the island.
He officially arrived in January 2024. He had the opportunity to buy a food truck, feeling that it was an excellent way to make himself known and present his food. This would limit his menu since he could only prepare some of the dishes he wanted, but he managed to create new fusions. His mother says she is cubicana because she is the best of Puerto Rican and Cuban cultures. So he decided to give a cubicana touch to his food, unusual in Rincón. Many have told him that his dishes are not from a food truck but from a restaurant’s quality. He finds that funny because it’s the only thing he knows how to do; he always strives to offer the highest quality in the industry, which makes him proud.
He is still looking for the ideal space that will allow him to expand his food menu. His star dishes are the Cuban sandwich, ‘fried cow’, pegao, empanadas, ceviche, and brussels sprout salad. His food brings back memorable memories with his grandparents. His dishes are inspired by those homemade recipes he enjoyed and wanted to share since childhood. He has great expectations and dreams on the island, and wants to expand his business and incorporate his passions by opening a boxing gym where he can train and mentor. This would create jobs, support animal rescue entities, and protect our identity, roots, and island. Rincón was waiting for him, and as he says: “life is a lottery ticket,” so take advantage of the opportunity!

Comenzó su carrera en el boxeo a la edad de dieciséis años en el 2006. Luchó como aficionado durante años y luego se convirtió en profesional a la edad de veintidós años en 2012. Durante su carrera profesional tuvo que aprender por cuenta propia sobre nutrición, cocina y alimentación saludable. Sus ansias por aprender crecieron tanto en el boxeo como en la cocina, lo que finalmente le llevó a la escuela de cocina. Luego, siguiendo su ejemplo, otros boxeadores, fascinados, comenzaron a pedirle que les hiciera comidas saludables. Eso le hizo darse cuenta de que su próxima pasión era la cocina. Asistió a Star Career Academy en Syosset, Nueva York, con dos objetivos en mente: aprender todo lo que pudiera en el arte de la cocina y graduarse como el mejor de su clase, ¡y ambas cosas fueron logradas!
Su carrera en la industria de restaurantes comenzó a los catorce años trabajando en establecimientos de comida rápida y restaurantes. Debido a las lesiones y a su deseo de perfeccionar sus habilidades, tuvo que dejar de lado una de sus pasiones, lo que provocó su retiro del boxeo en el 2016. Dentro de su extensa experiencia culinaria se formó como chef de estrella Michelin trabajando con restaurantes de renombre mundial. Sus más grandes guías fueron los chefs Michael Psilakis, Michele Brigioni (Armani Ristorante), y los espectaculares Chefs Michael Ginore y Bobby Flay. Las experiencias junto a ellos le inspiraron a crear su propio negocio. ¡Es cuando BabaluNY se hizo realidad en abril de 2017! Expandieron negocios en febrero del 2020 como BabaluNY 2.0. Aún con el paso de la pandemia, se siente agradecido de todo el apoyo de su comunidad y clientes al permitirles continuar y prosperar.
Puerto Rico, sin embargo, siempre lo llamó. Pasó muchos veranos en Peñuelas y Corozal con sus abuelos. Hace unos años descubrió Rincón y quedó hipnotizado por su belleza, su vida y su gente. Se dijo entonces, “puedo verme aquí”. Mientras todavía tenía el restaurante, comenzó a buscar oportunidades en Rincón para hacer una mudanza más permanente. No podía tener un pie en New York y otro en Puerto Rico. Cuando llegó el momento de decidir renovar su contrato de alquiler, siguió su corazón, cerró el restaurante y comenzó una nueva trayectoria en Rincón. Sabía que si se quedaba en New York, nunca tendría la oportunidad de vivir en la isla.
Llegó oficialmente en enero del 2024. Tuvo la oportunidad de comprar un food truck sintiendo que era una excelente manera de darse a conocer y presentar su comida. Esto limitaría su menú, ya que no podría preparar todos los platos que desearía, pero se las ha ingeniado para crear fusiones nuevas. Su madre dice ser cubicana, por ser lo mejor de dos culturas: puertorriqueña y cubana. Por lo que decidió dar un toque cubicano a su comida, poco común en Rincón. Muchos le han comentado que sus platos no parecen ser de food truck sino de restaurante. Eso le parece gracioso porque es lo único que sabe hacer, siempre se esfuerza por ofrecer la más alta calidad de la industria y esto le enorgullece.
Todavía sigue en busca del espacio ideal que le permita expandir su menú de comida. Actualmente sus platos estrellas son el sándwich cubano, la vaca frita, el pegao, las empanadas, el ceviche y la ensalada de coles de bruselas. Su comida le trae memorables recuerdos con sus abuelos. Sus platos están inspirados en esas recetas caseras que solía disfrutar y querer compartir desde la infancia. Tiene grandes expectativas y sueños en la isla, quiere expandir su negocio e incorporar sus pasiones abriendo un gimnasio de boxeo donde pueda entrenar y servir de mentor. Esto crearía empleos y apoyaría a entidades de rescate de animales y protegería su identidad, sus raíces y su isla. Rincón lo esperaba, y como dice: “la vida es una lotería,” entonces, ¡aprovecha la oportunidad!

En marzo del 2019 tuve el privilegio de reseñar un impresionante y exitoso proyecto en el pueblo de Rincón. No, no era una gran empresa millonaria, desarrollo turístico o comercial. Era el proyecto de vida y amor de Dinora Nazario Morales y Jesús Morales Caro: una familia unida y dedicada a trabajar por el éxito, la unidad, la armonía y el civismo. En aquel momento la familia se discurría en medio de grandes retos entre ellos la educación de sus cuatro hijos, la expansión y desarrollo personal y profesional de todos sus miembros y la reciente culminación de la construcción de su hogar. Nos reunimos cinco años mas tarde para recapitular y reflexionar sobre estos pasados cinco años. Si alguien pensó que esta dinámica familia había tomado un descanso, se equivocaron. Comenzamos conversando con Dinora Nazario Morales cuyos títulos comienzan con madre, chef, empresaria y educadora. Chef de repostería de profesión, Dinora continúa laborando como profesora de panadería y repostería en el Instituto de Carreras Cortas de la Pontificia Universidad Católica. Dinora entiende la importancia de mantenerse vigente y actual en su profesión, así que regularmente participa en cursos de educación continua para brindar los productos, métodos y tendencias nuevas en su campo. Su empresa “Dinora’s Cakes and more”, que ofrece servicios de repostería y catering, sigue creciendo con las ambiciosas metas de desarrollar un ala educativa de cursos privados de repostería, así como la formación de chefs especializados en el campo. Dinora divide su tiempo entre su familia que incluye el cuido amoroso de su madre y tía abuela envejecientes y sus labores profesionales. En mayo del 2023, Dinora fue reconocida por el Municipio de Rincón como Madre Ejemplar del Barrio Río Grande.
In March 2019, I was privileged to draft a story about an impressive and successful project in Rincon. No, it was not a big millionaire enterprise, tourism, or commercial development. It was the life and love project of Dinora Nazario Morales and Jesús Morales Caro: a united family dedicated to work for success, unity, harmony, and social responsibility. At that time the family was facing great challenges, among them, the education of their four children, the personal and professional development of all its members, and the recent completion of the construction of their home. We now meet five years later to recap and reflect on the past five years. If anyone thought this dynamic family had taken a break, they were wrong.
We began our conversation with Dinora Nazario Morales whose titles include mother, chef, entrepreneur, and educator. A pastry chef by profession, Dinora continues to work as a bakery and pastry professor at the Instituto de Carreras Cortas of the Pontificia Universidad Católica. Dinora understands the importance of staying current in her profession, so she regularly participates in continuing education courses to offer new products, methods, and trends in her field. “Dinora’s Cakes and More”, her business, which provides baking and catering services, continues to grow with the ambitious goals of developing an educational wing of private baking courses, and the training of specialized chefs in the field. Dinora divides her time between her family which includes loving care of her aging mother and great-aunt and her professional duties. In May 2023, The Municipality of Rincon recognized Dinora as an Exemplary Mother of the Rio Grande Neighborhood.
Her motto has not changed: “To keep my family united, working with love, respect, dedication, holding values of service and positivism; always putting everything in God’s hands. We could embrace any journey if you have the courage and initiative to take it and travel through with the support of your loved ones”.
Jesús Morales Caro, father, police officer, and businessperson, breaks all the stereotypes we may have about a police officer. This cheerful, creative, and hardworking man, besides being a police officer for 23 years, collaborates hard with his wife guiding and raising their family. His passion remains music and entertainment. Since our last meeting, his company “BN Events” has grown and added new services in addition to music and entertainment such as renting tables, chairs, coolers, commercial tents, lighted dance floors, LED screens, photo booths, and a 9-foot robot for presentations. Although his children already have their projects, they continue to work with Jesús Sr. in the company. Jesús received the recognition of Agent of the Year - Preventive 2023, by the Mayagüez Command, and by the Municipality of Rincón as an Exemplary Father of the Rio Grande Neighborhood in 2023.
Cristie Marie Rivera Nazario, the eldest daughter, completed with honors a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in Human Resources in 2020 and a master’s degree in industrial organizational psychology in 2023. She is a Human Resources Coordinator in a hospital and a health clinic. She is active in volunteer activities. She recently joined the Psychologically Healthy Organizations Committee of the Puerto Rico Psychological Association. In addition, she is preparing to become certified as an emotional wage ambassador and a licensed psychologist. She also plans to complete a doctorate in Industrial Organizational Psychology or Leadership. Cristie enjoys sharing her knowledge and ideas to make a meaningful impact wherever she works. She describes it this way, “I am enthusiastic about bridging the fields of psychology and business to improve the workplace, promote organizational success, and build a brighter future in the labor field.”
Su lema y derrotero no han cambiado: “Mantener a mi familia siempre unida, trabajando con amor, respeto, dedicación, con valores positivos y de servicio; siempre poniendo todo en manos de Dios. No hay camino que no se pueda recorrer si tienes el valor y la iniciativa para tomarlo y recorrerlo contando con el apoyo de tus seres queridos”.

A pesar de que sus hijos ya tienen sus propios proyectos, continúan trabajando con Jesús Padre en la empresa. En el 2023 Jesús fue distinguido con el reconocimiento de Agente del Año - Preventiva 2023 de la Comandancia de Mayagüez y por el Municipio de Rincón como Padre Ejemplar del Barrio Río Grande en mayo del mismo año.
Cristie Marie Rivera Nazario, la hija mayor, culminó con honores un Bachillerato en Administración de Empresas con Concentración en Recursos Humanos en el 2020 y en el 2023, una maestría en Psicología Industrial Organizacional. Actualmente labora como Coordinadora de Recursos Humanos en un hospital y una clínica de salud. Se mantiene activa participando en actividades de voluntariado. Recientemente se unió al Comité de Organizaciones Psicológicamente Saludables de la Asociación de Psicología de Puerto Rico. Además, está en proceso de certificarse como embajadora del salario emocional y como psicóloga licenciada. Entre sus metas a largo plazo, se encuentra completar un doctorado en Psicología Industrial Organizacional o Liderazgo. Cristie disfruta compartiendo sus conocimientos e ideas para generar un impacto significativo en cualquier lugar que trabaje. Así lo describe: “Me apasiona unir los campos de la psicología y los negocios para mejorar el ámbito laboral, promover el éxito organizacional y para construir un futuro laboral más prometedor”.
Jesús H. Morales, the oldest of the boys, recently completed a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in Marketing at the University of Puerto Rico, Aguadilla campus, with excellent grades and recommendations.
It was logical that Jesus followed the family tradition, founding his company, “Fast Moving”. In a brief time “Fast Moving” has positioned itself among the providers of such services on the island. Maintaining the family concept, they offer services to all of Puerto Rico. Jesus continues to work hand in hand with his father and brother in “BN Events”. But Jesus does not rest, he always has innovative ideas and projects that we will surely hear about soon.
Jean L, the youngest of the boys, is studying for a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems at the University of Puerto Rico, Aguadilla Campus. He works as Head Cook at the “Copa Llena” Restaurant in Rincón. He continues to work with “BN Events” with his brother and father and on “Fast Moving” with his older brother. Jean aspires to, “develop my own business, applying all the knowledge I have acquired at work and university”. He confesses that family support has been a fundamental pillar for success, and concludes, “We support and protect each other, always helping each other in times of need”.
Jeydyliz, the youngest of the females, who was an outstanding athlete, is studying Pedagogy and Entrepreneurship. She recently received a certificate in Sign Language. She has worked in the hotel and restaurant industry. She currently serves as a host at “La Copa Llena.” Jeydyliz has demonstrated a great passion for education and educational innovation and dreams of reforming teaching methods to adapt them to the needs of the 21st century. She aspires to pursue graduate studies to create transformative education, fostering inclusive and dynamic learning environments that prepare students for the challenges of the future.
Jesús H. Morales, el mayor de los varones, recientemente culminó un Bachillerato en Administración de Empresas con concentración en Mercadeo en la Universidad de Puerto Rico, recinto de Aguadilla, con excelentes notas y recomendaciones.
Era de esperarse que Jesús, siguiendo la tradición familiar, fundara su propia empresa, la compañía de mudanzas “Fast Moving”. En poco tiempo “Fast Moving” se ha posicionado con excelencia entre los proveedores de dichos servicios en la isla. Manteniendo el concepto familiar, ofrecen servicios a todo Puerto Rico. Jesús continúa trabajando mano a mano con su padre y hermano en “BN Events”. Pero Jesús no descansa, siempre tiene nuevas ideas y proyectos de los cuales, seguramente escucharemos muy pronto.
Jean L, el menor de los varones, cursa estudios de Bachillerato en Sistemas Computarizados de Información en la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Aguadilla. Actualmente trabaja en el Restaurante “Copa Llena” en Rincón como Cocinero Principal. Continua sus labores con “BN Events” junto a su hermano y su padre y también en “Fast Moving” con su hermano mayor. Jean aspira a, “desarrollar mi propia empresa, aplicando todo el conocimiento que he adquirido en el trabajo y en la universidad”. Nos confiesa que el apoyo familiar ha sido un pilar fundamental para el éxito, y concluye, “Nos apoyamos y protegemos, ayudándonos siempre en los momentos de necesidad”.
Jeydyliz, la menor de las hembras, quien fue atleta destacada, cursa estudios en Pedagogía y Empresarismo. Recientemente recibió un certificado en Lenguaje de Señas. Ha trabajado en las industria hotelera y gastronómica. Actualmente se desempeña como anfitriona en La Copa Llena. Jeydyliz ha demostrado una gran pasión por la educación y la innovación educativa y sueña con reformar los métodos de enseñanza para adaptarlos a las necesidades del siglo XXI. Aspira a continuar estudios de posgrado para crear una educación transformadora, fomentando entornos de aprendizaje inclusivos y dinámicos que preparen a los estudiantes para los desafíos del futuro.
The Morales Nazario family has grown. And of course, the young family members have been very demanding in choosing partners who reflect the family values of hard work and excellence. Jesus’ girlfriend, Liz Deyanira Montalvo, holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with concentrations in Human Resources and Marketing from the University of Puerto Rico. She will study for a master’s degree in social work in August 2024. Gabriela Torres Mendoza, Jean’s girlfriend, is studying Microbiology with concentrations in Biology and Marine Sciences at the Interamerican University, Bayamon Campus. Jeydyliz’s boyfriend, Kenneth Ramos Vega, is on leave from his job at “La Copa Llena” and is working at the Sebonack Golf Club in New York. And Jomar Villarrubia, Cristie’s boyfriend, is a young agribusinessman with an associate degree in Agribusiness. Dinora tells us that they are all excellent young people and, that “they all give us a hand in the business and are always willing to help and participate.”
Jomar Villarrubia, Cristie’s boyfriend, is already making his mark in the market and is the founder with Cristie of “La Papurria,” an innovative project that promotes local agriculture, generational replacement, and food security. They aspire to offer a unique gastronomic product based on potatoes. This young company received in 2023 the second place of the “Early Stage Projects” award in the Enactus Puerto Rico competition. Jomar wants to be a pioneer in developing the commercial cultivation of potatoes in Puerto Rico and to motivate others to see agriculture as a source of growth and positive contribution to our island. This dynamic and hardworking family continues to face life and the future with courage and positivity. There are new challenges, such as natural phenomena, the economic crisis, and caring for their aging members, but they do not get discouraged. On the contrary, they remain united to support each other and continue forging not only the future of a project of life and love but also of contribution to a better country and society.
La familia Morales Nazario ha crecido. Y claro, los jóvenes miembros de la familia han sido muy exigentes al escoger parejas que reflejen los valores familiares de trabajo y excelencia. Liz Deyanira Montalvo, la novia de Jesús, es graduada de la Universidad de Puerto Rico con un bachillerato en Administración de Empresas con concentraciones en Recursos Humanos y Mercadeo. Cursará estudios de maestría en Trabajo Social en agosto del 2024. Gabriela Torres Mendoza, la novia de Jean, cursa estudios de Microbiología con concentración en Biología y Ciencias Marinas en la Universidad Interamericana, Recinto de Bayamón. Kenneth Ramos Vega, el novio de Jeydyliz, se encuentra en sabática de su trabajo en “La Copa Llena” y está empleado en el “Sebonack Golf Club” en Nueva York. Y Jomar Villarrubia, el novio de Cristie, es un joven agro empresario que cuenta con un grado asociado en Agro empresarismo. Dinora nos dice que todos son jóvenes excelentes y, “todos nos dan la mano en los negocios y siempre están dispuestos a ayudar y trabajar”.

Aspiran a ofrecer un producto gastronómico único a base de la papa. Esta joven empresa, recibió en el 2023 el segundo lugar del galardón “Early Stage Projects” en la competencia de Enactus Puerto Rico. Entendiendo el gran reto que significa pertenecer a la Familia Morales Nazario, Jomar, tiene también grandes aspiraciones. Desea ser el pionero en desarrollar el cultivo comercial de la papa en Puerto Rico, y motivar a otras personas para que vean la agricultura como una fuente de crecimiento y aporte positivo para nuestra isla.
Esta familia dinámica y trabajadora continúa enfrentando a la vida y el futuro con valor y positividad. Son nuevos los retos, como lo son los fenómenos naturales, la crisis económica, el cuido de sus miembros envejecientes, pero ellos no se desaniman. Al contrario, se mantienen unidos para apoyarse y seguir forjando no solo el futuro de un proyecto de vida y amor, sino también de contribución a una mejor patria y sociedad.
Martín De Jesus Carrero, a Rincón local and the dedicated owner of the renowned Rincón School Supply, shook the town with the news of his business’s closure. In this article he shares a glimpse of his future plans, but first, let’s delve into his journey.
Martín, with an associate degree in Criminal Justice from the Puerto Rico police, served the town of Bayamón from 1998 to 2003. During his first marriage, his partner took the initiative to create and establish Paola School Supply in Aguadilla. Upon retiring from the police and a divorce, he left the Aguadilla business and decided to start a similar concept in Rincón that same year (2003). Within the twenty-two years of providing services in Rincón, he went through three locations, all to continuously improve the comfort and satisfaction of his clients. After settling for six and a half years in his first location, he decided to move to a slightly busier place, remaining for three and a half years in front of the emergency room of the old hospital, today known as Costa Salud. He tells us that a client left her daughter in front of the business one day, and, like an authentic Puerto Rican, she exclaimed: “Hey, there is never parking here!” That intrigued him so much that he began to analyze his next move. Customers were asking for more comfort and accessibility. That’s when he visits the Showcase Video Store and tells the owner, Juan, about his concern about finding a more comfortable place. He responds: “Well, Martín, I’m closing the store! Shortly after that, he began renting that location, and it has been the place to which he has dedicated his body and soul for the past twelve years.
The decision to close Rincón School Supply was not taken lightly; it had already been discussed. He worked hard for this moment. He knew this moment was coming, although he didn’t expect it so soon. Martín said he would retire at fifty-five, but his life surprised him with an early retirement. The town of Rincón has had a little difficulty processing the news of the closure, as we know that Ricón has experienced drastic changes in recent years, but Martín was not kicked out. The property owner had already approached him about the property’s plans two years ago, announcing his closeness to retirement.
“Martín, what will we do now!” customers exclaim. Since they willl no longer be there, they will be forced to look for alternatives when managing driver’s licenses, certificates of good conduct, certificates for government benefits, bookbinding, and school supplies.
Martín De Jesus Carrero, rincoeño y dueño del famoso Rincón School Supply impacta con estruendosa noticia sobre la terminación del negocio y nos cuenta un poco sobre sus planes futuros. Pero primero, conozcamoslo un poco. Martín cuenta con un grado asociado en Justicia Criminal de la policía de Puerto Rico. Allí brindó sus servicios desde el 1998 al 2003 en el pueblo de Bayamón.
Durante su primer matrimonio, su pareja toma la iniciativa de crear y establecer Paola School Supply en Aguadilla. Al retirarse de la policía y surgir una separación, deja el negocio de Aguadilla y decide emprender con un concepto similar en Rincón para ese mismo año (2003). Dentro de los veintidós años brindando servicios en Rincón, pasó por tres localidades, todo con el fin de mejorar en todo momento la comodidad y satisfacción de sus clientes. Luego de establecerse por seis años y medio en su primera locación, se le presenta la oportunidad de moverse a un lugar un poco más concurrido permaneciendo por tres años y medio frente de la sala de emergencias del viejo hospital, hoy día conocido como Costa Salud. Nos cuenta que un día una clienta dejó a su nena frente al negocio y a lo buen boricua exclamó: “¡oye, aquí nunca hay parking!” Eso le intrigó tanto que se puso a analizar su siguiente movida. Los clientes lo estaban pidiendo: más comodidad y accesibilidad. En eso visita el Showcase Video Store y le comenta al dueño, Juan, acerca de su inquietud sobre encontrar un lugar más cómodo. A lo que él responde: “¡pues, Martín, yo estoy vendiendo el local! Al poco tiempo le compra la llave y ha sido el lugar al que ha dedicado cuerpo y alma por los pasados doce años.
La decisión de cerrar Rincón School Supply, no la tomó a la ligera, ya estaba hablado. Trabajó duro por este momento. Ya sabía que se acercaba este momento, aunque no lo esperaba tan pronto. Martín dijo que se retiraría a los cincuenta y cinco años pero la vida se le adelantó. El pueblo de Rincón ha tenido un poco de dificultad procesando la noticia del cierre, ya que sabemos que Ricón ha experimentado cambios drásticos en los últimos años, pero Martín no fue expulsado. El dueño de la propiedad ya le había hecho el acercamiento sobre los planes futuros de la propiedad hace dos años, anunciando su cercanía a la jubilación.
“Martín, ¡nos haces un hueco!”, exclaman los clientes. Ya que extrañaran sus servicios, obligándolos a buscar otras alternativas cuando gestionen licencias de conducir, certificados de buena conducta, certificados para beneficios del gobierno, encuadernación y efectos escolares.
He owes the success of everything to his clients, Rincón, and everyone who believed in him. With several pauses and moved with tears, he told us his anecdote with Rey Chancón. When Martín opened the business, Chancón opened the door and asked him bluntly, “What are you planning to do here?” Martín responded: “A school supplies business.” Chacón answers: “No, you are wrong; if you told me about a bakery or cafeteria, I would believe it, but a school supply, no way.” Martín hailed him: “Gentleman, give me three months, and you will see.” As Chacón writes everything down, three months later, he visits again to ask how the business is going. Martín tells him he is still working on the challenge but invites him to return in a year and a day. Through all this, Chacón continued passing by and monitoring the area, saying hello but never broaching the subject. After a year and a day, he visits him at the business and asks him again. Martín answers: “I did it, Chacón! Chacón replies: “I was wrong, Martín; you are here to stay.” Can you believe that Chacón even wrote a poem about this anecdote after this?
But turning the page with a breaking voice, he tells us that his plans in the short term are for the apartment rental industry. He also has a farm in the Atalaya neighborhood that he has been preparing for some time. He does not rule out moving into the real estate and/or construction businesses, as he is passionate about the subject. But for now, he just wants to enjoy his family, take a vacation, and focus on his new projects.
As Rincón School Supply closes its doors after twenty-eight years, a new chapter begins. In this transition, we extend our heartfelt gratitude on behalf of Martín to everyone who made these twenty-eight years possible. To those who have visited Rincón School Supply to bid farewell and express their gratitude, your presence is deeply appreciated.
El éxito de todo se lo debe a sus clientes, a Rincón, y a todo aquel que creyó en él. Dentro de varias pausas y conmovido entre lágrimas, nos contó una anécdota que tuvo con Rey Chancón. Cuando Martín apenas abrió el negocio, Chancón abrió la puerta y le preguntó en seco “¿qué piensas hacer aquí?, a lo que Martín responde: “un negocio de efectos escolares, sacar copias, y ese tipo de cosas.” Chacón contesta: “no, te equivocaste, si me dices una panadería o cafetería te lo creía, pero un school supply, no.” Martín le aclama: “caballero, debe tres meses y ya verá.” Como Chacón todo lo apunta, a los tres meses vuelve a visitar para preguntarle cómo le va el negocio. Martín le cuenta que aún andaba trabajando en el reto pero le invitó a regresar al año y un día. A todo esto, Chacón continuaba pasando y monitoreando el área, saludaba pero nunca tocaba el tema. Al año y un día, lo visita al negocio y le pregunta nuevamente. Martín le contesta: “¡lo logré Chacón!, a lo Chacón contesta: “me equivoqué Martín, usted llegó para quedarse.” ¿Podrán creer que luego de esto, Chacón hasta le escribió una poesía sobre esta anécdota?
Pero pasando la página y con un taco en la garganta, nos cuenta que sus planes futuros fluctúan entre la industria de apartamentos de alquiler a corto plazo. Tiene una finca en el barrio de Atalaya que ya ha estado preparando desde hace algún tiempo. No descarta moverse a los negocios de bienes raíces y/o construcción, pues le apasiona el tema. Pero por ahora sólo desea disfrutar de su familia, tomar unas vacaciones y enfocarse en sus nuevos proyectos.
Y así Rincón cierra un libro de veintidós capítulos. Ahora solo resta extender en su nombre la mayor gratitud a todo aquel que hizo posible esos veintidós años y han llegado hasta Rincón School Supply para despedirse y darle las gracias.
