FOR THE SINGLE ADULT What About Dating & Courtship? Single adult relationships are equally important and should be pursued with purpose. When entering a relationship one must understand and know the purpose of that relationship. Is it purely a platonic mutual friendship or does it have the potential to become a more intimate friendship or even a permanent relationship? Without dating one may never know and therefore dating as such is not taboo for the Christian single. However, having an understanding of the purposes and differences of dating and courtship will be helpful. 1. The Difference in M_________________ The first difference lies with the motive in pursuing the relationship. Biblical courtship has one motive — to find a spouse. 2. The Difference in M_________________ The second difference between courtship and dating is the mind-set couples have when interacting with one another. Dating asks, “How can I find the one for me?” Courtship asks, “How can I be the one for her or for him?” 3. The Difference in M ______________________ Third, and most practically, dating and courtship are different in their methods. While this does not apply to all dating relationships, more often than not – physical sexual intimacy precedes or comes before a life-long commitment. In biblical courtship, commitment precedes physical sexual intimacy and that commitment is sealed by the life-long marriage vows.

The entire teaching on this subject is entitled, “Real Relationships – The Difference Between Courtship and Dating”
