Suffix Meaning Examples

-able or -ible able or can do fashionable, horrible, comfortable

-al relating to natural, accidental, personal

-er one who does something, more teacher, computer, greater, faster

-est most largest, oldest, funniest

-ful full of beautiful, careful, helpful

-ish like foolish, selfish

-less not, the opposite ofspeechless, careless, lifeless

-ly like quickly, suddenly, nearly

-ment result of development, argument, excitement

-ness describes being happiness, kindness, illness

-ous connected with dangerous, poisonous, furious

-sion, -tion expresses an action or state explosion, decision, pollution, collection

-th result of growth, depth, health

-y inclined to thirsty, muddy, sleepy
